In Isaiah 63 the prophet asks a sobering question about the victorious figure introduced in the opening verse: “Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat?” In this episode of Words of Grace, Benjamin Winslett continues this message by focusing on the work of the One who is mighty to save.

The imagery of the winepress presents a vivid picture of judgment, as well as the reality that Christ accomplished redemption by His own power. On this week’s episode of Words of Grace, Benjamin Winslett explores the biblical theme of liberty and what true freedom looks like according to the Word of God. Beginning with Old Testament foundations such as the Year of Jubilee in Leviticus 25 and the prophetic promise of liberty in Isaiah 61, this message shows how these earlier pictures pointed forward to the greater freedom that would come through Jesus Christ.

Moving into the New Testament, this episode examines several forms of liberty believers enjoy in Christ: freedom from the penalty of sin, freedom from the dominion of sin, freedom from the Old Testament law as a covenant of righteousness, and freedom from ignorance through the truth of God’s Word.

Finally, the message considers how Christians should wisely use their liberty…never for the flesh, and never in a way that harms others; reminding us that true Christian freedom is both a gift to celebrate and a responsibility to handle with wisdom!

]]> On today’s episode of Words of Grace, Pastor Winslett takes us to a small Galilean town called Nain in Gospel of Luke chapter 7, where a funeral procession meets the Prince of Life.

A widow, already burdened by the loss of her husband, now follows the bier of her only son. In any  culture, this tragic and heartbreaking. But in that day, this was devastation; her support, her security, her future provision were gone in a moment. But as this procession of death moves forward, it is suddenly interrupted by the Lord Jesus Christ.

In this message, we consider the compassion of Christ, the authority of Christ over death itself, and the hope that only He can give. When Jesus says, “Weep not,” it is not a dismissal of sorrow, but a declaration of power. There is no situation too far gone for Him to overturn.

]]> In Luke chapter 10, the Lord appointed seventy disciples and sent them ahead of Him into the places He would soon visit. We don’t know their names, and Scripture is mostly silent about what became of them afterward, but the lessons from their mission are clear and searching.

In this episode of Words of Grace, Benjamin Winslett looks at the Lord’s instructions to these men and what they teach us about gospel labor, the reality of opposition, and the present power of the Kingdom of God. The harvest is still great. Laborers are still few. ]]> On this episode of Words of Grace, we consider The Divine Perspective of Repentance from Luke chapter 15. Using the well-known parable of the Prodigal Son, this message looks beyond repentance as merely a human act and focuses instead on God’s response when His children return to Him.

Jesus’ parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and finally the lost son reveal a consistent truth: the value is placed by the owner, the recovery is initiated by the owner, and the rejoicing belongs to the owner. Whether repentance follows a dramatic fall, a “respectable” sin, or a slow spiritual drift, heaven responds with joy when sinners repent.

This broadcast reminds us that the Father’s house is still open, His mercy is real, and His grace is greater than our sin!

]]> In this Christmas-season episode of Words of Grace, we consider one of the earliest and most beautiful promises of Christ found in the Old Testament. From Jacob’s prophetic words in Genesis 49, we’re introduced to the mysterious name Shiloh—the One to whom the gathering of the people would be, long understood as a promise of the coming Messiah.

We then follow that promise into the book of Isaiah, where the child to be born is revealed as Emmanuel, God with us—the Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, and the Prince of Peace. The episode concludes in Psalm 8, reflecting on the wonder of the incarnation: that the eternal Son of God humbled Himself, becoming a little lower than the angels, taking on our humanity to redeem His people.

]]> In today’s broadcast of Words of Grace, Pastor Ben Winslett continues our study through the Sermon on the Mount by examining Christ’s words concerning the commandment, “Thou shalt not kill.” While many in Jesus’ day limited this command to literal murder, Jesus revealed its deeper meaning—warning against unrighteous anger, insults, and heart-level contempt.

We consider how Scripture distinguishes between justified killing in cases of justice or war and the sin of murder. But most importantly, we reflect on Christ’s call to examine our hearts. Anger without cause, calling someone “Raca,” or condemning a person as worthless or lost—all reveal a deeper guilt that the Law always intended to expose.

]]> On this weekend’s edition of Words of Grace, we share a message from the pulpit of River Primitive Baptist Church entitled Biblical Wisdom on Extremes. In this sermon, we explore how Scripture teaches us to avoid the natural human tendency toward extremes — whether in our thinking, our reactions, or our daily living.

As depicted in the the dramatic response of the barbarians in Acts 28 to Paul’s survival of a snake bite, humans can be creatures who pinball between extremes. Yet Paul exhorts in Philippians 4:5 to let our moderation be known to all men. The Bible provides clear and practical wisdom for living a balanced and thoughtful life.
