Invaded (Alienated #2)

by Melissa Landers

The romantic sequel to Alienated takes long-distance relationships to a new level as Cara and Aelyx long for each other from opposite ends of the universe...until a threat to both their worlds reunites them.

Cara always knew life on planet L’eihr would be an adjustment. With Aelyx, her L’eihr boyfriend, back on Earth, working to mend the broken alliance between their two planets, Cara is left to fend for herself at a new school, surrounded by hostile alien clones. Even the weird dorm pet hates her.

Things look up when Cara is appointed as human representative to a panel preparing for a human colony on L’eihr. A society melding their two cultures is a place where Cara and Aelyx could one day make a life together. But with L’eihr leaders balking at granting even the most basic freedoms, Cara begins to wonder if she could ever be happy on this planet, even with Aelyx by her side.

Meanwhile, on Earth, Aelyx, finds himself thrown into a full-scale PR campaign to improve human-L’eihr relations. Humans don’t know that their very survival depends on this alliance: only Aelyx’s people have the technology to fix the deadly contamination in the global water supply that human governments are hiding. Yet despite their upper hand, the leaders of his world suddenly seem desperate to get humans on their side, and hardly bat an eye at extremists’ multiple attempts on Aelyx’s life.

The Way clearly needs humans’ help . . . but with what? And what will they ask for in return?

I shouldn't wait so long after reading a book to write a review, so I do hope I give the book the justice it deserves. I picked a copy up from my local library.

I will give you two words, that by the end of this book, will have your heart in shreds. Pear seed. I can't look at one the same again and on one hand, that means the author really affected me with her story and on the other hand, I wish the author would give a particular character a break. I do hope the author finds it in her heart to give that character a happily ever after in United: An Alienated Novel.

Okay, back to my review. This was a great follow up to the first book in the trilogy, Alienated. You were able to feel the emotions of the different characters in their whole new surroundings. Longing, despair, hope, hurt, love, betrayal and so much more. We learn so much more about the L'eihr; their traditions, their structure, their everyday life, and the possibility of their lineage. Secrets galore are kept hidden and some of them will have your jaw dropping, while others aren't so surprising.

I look forward to the final book in this trilogy, which comes out August 2016. I can't wait to see what the author has in store for the characters and readers alike. A great read for young teens and adults. What will the future bring for Cara and Aelyx. What is in store for their friends and family? What is in store for the future of both worlds?

Taking Some Time Off

Here is me the past few months

Yep...dragging...

It hasn't been just here, it's been in many aspects of my life. I was a co-moderator of an amazing YA Goodreads group, and stepped down from there too. Here is some of what I had sent to the members and mods there that also fits in well with my lack of enthusiam with my blog:

There have been many changes in my life since I have been a mod. Children have grown and left the nest, others are in their final years of high school. Personal struggles equally never ending chaos. Since the fire, at the beginning of April, my heart nor mind has been into the program, the group nor have I had the desire to open a book and get lost in its story. So rather than keep going at something that is a struggle, I am taking off the mod hat and allowing myself to find my way back to what I loved, reading, and allowing myself however long it takes to do it.

I apologize to any and all authors I've let down over the past few months as well as blog tour coordinators. I do hope you all understand, and I haven't been blacklisted all around. Things are finally starting to work out and recently a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders, so I'm hoping this means that I will be finding my way back sooner than later. Thank you all for understanding!

When Taylor was four years old, she became an orphan and her childhood spiraled into darkness. She spent years lying, hiding, and avoiding any love offered to her until she was old enough to run away from all the threats of her past.
Now twenty-two, Taylor doesn’t think she’s worth more than being the kind of girl a guy hooks up with in the back room of a bar after her band plays. She definitely isn’t the one you bring home to meet Mom and Dad.
An unlikely rescue puts her in Ethan’s sight. He’s her total opposite, though. Ethan is a sexy dork who sees beyond Taylor’s guarded exterior. He sees past the tattoos and piercings. He sees her.
But they both have secrets capable of destroying their relationship. And if Taylor’s past ever catches up with her, the consequences could be deadly.
Due to explicit language, sexual content, and dark themes, reader discretion is advised.

I stepped backward as he came closer until my back hit the tiled wall. This was it. Whatever was about to happen would make Ethan and me definite. We’d be together, or all hope I had for the two of us would be gone.
Ethan sucked on his bottom lip, his eyes full of torment. “You wouldn’t talk to me.”
I swallowed. He had this way of making me think he could see all of me, every part I hid, every flaw I had, every dream I didn’t dare believe in, like he worshipped it because it was mine. “I screwed up.”
He shook his head as he stepped closer, took the net out of my hand, and placed it on the side of the pool. “No, you didn’t.”
He stood in front of me, staring into my eyes. I couldn’t look away. I didn’t want to look away. There was nothing but Ethan and me in the water with the vibrations of anticipation flowing through my veins, feeding an energy to my body so intense I could only stand frozen. His gaze shifted to my mouth, and I licked my lips.
“Taylor, I…I’m going to kiss you,” he said softly. “I want you to remember how good it feels. I need you to remember that before we talk.” His hands ran up and down my arms as his eyes bore into mine. “Okay?”
I did not need a reminder of how perfect everything in the world was when we kissed, but I sure as hell wasn’t going to argue. The ability to speak escaped me, but I nodded. He leaned toward me and my heart slammed in my chest as he brushed his fingers over my lips. “So beautiful,” he whispered, more to himself than me.

Kelly Lincoln is pretty lame but she’s okay with that. She enjoys reading, inappropriate jokes, all things Disney, and spending time with her family. She lives in the northeast and drinks way too much Diet Coke.

The Designed by Kate Tailor
(The Designed Series #1)
Publication date: January 26th 2015
Genres: New Adult, Science Fiction

Synopsis:

What if the next new drug was you? Raleigh’s body produces a drug that could define the future of medicine if the dangerous world surrounding it doesn’t kill her first.

Eighteen-year old Raleigh Groves can sense disease in others and is suffering from her own unexplained illness as well. After years and dozens of doctor visits, she has given up hope of ever finding a cure, let alone a diagnosis. Then she meets a man who explains that her talent and curse are linked. Her body produces a drug, Lucidin, which allows her to sense others. She’s rare, and the drug she makes is coveted.

Rho has spent the last few years on the run. The Lucidin that is racing through his system makes him a target. Surrounded by addicts and dealers on one side and scientists and doctors on the other, he has to rely on his wits and his team to stay one step ahead. So far he has stayed afloat, but some of his brothers haven’t been as lucky.

As Rho and Raleigh collide they must face the perilous world of Lucidin together. Nothing is black-and-white and Raleigh must decide where her alliances lie. Sometimes the hardest heart to sense is your own.

I would like to thank the author for providing me with a complimentary copy of her book in exchange for an honest review. Doing so does not sway my review in any way.

The book starts out introducing the reader to Rho and giving a brief but intriguing look at what those with Lucidin in their system are running from. Just enough info is given that you know he is capable of taking care of himself, but you also feel bits of his vulnerability.

Next up we quickly meet Raleigh, and learn of her "disease" which is a double edged sword. Blackouts that have taken their toll on her ability to have a normal teen life and abilities that doctors wish they could have. It turns out that Raleigh and Rho have one thing in common, the Lucidin. They are both prime prey for those who want the chemical.

There is so much more to this story and is so hard to review without giving away spoilers. The characters start off a bit underdeveloped but over time, as the author gives you more info the characterization also builds up, giving them a life of their own. There is secrets, scandals, and so much more. A true page turner of a story that will make you thing while keeping you guessing.

This book is for anyone that likes a good science fiction read that also delves into the world of genetic sciences. A good what if type of read and one that will make you want the next book now. I look forward to reading further on with this series and whatever else the author publishes.
