New Era’s Eve

Workfare Incorporated is kicking off 2011 by hosting “New Era’s Eve” – a series of four benefit concerts in the Kansas City area.

The first benefit concert will be held at Crosstown Station (1522 McGee) on January 7th at 9 p.m. and will feature Red Line Chemistry, a local band that is beginning to make a name for itself nationally. A pre-show meet and greet will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. in The Press Room at Crosstown Station, with performances by “Everyday/Everynight” and Amanda Marie Mitchell (a recent addition to the local music scene by way of Chicago). A post-show party in the Press Room will feature a performance by “The Winston Apple Band.”

The second show will be one week later on January 15th at Davey’s Uptown Ramblers Club (3402 Main). “Paperclips” (from Springfield, MO) will headline the show. “Lonesome Hank and the Heartaches” and “The Winston Apple Band” are also on the bill. The show starts at 8:30 p.m.

The third show (on January 22nd) will be the early show (4 p.m. to 8 p.m.) at The Riot Room (4048 Broadway in Kansas City, MO). The acts on the bill are Stonedeph, Jenny Carr, The Bent Wheatleys, and Apples for Archers.

New Era’s Eve will come to a close with a show at The Record Bar (1020 Westport Road in Kansas City, MO) beginning at 8 p.m. on February 5th, featuring Sara Swenson and the Pearl Snaps, Valency, Ben Summers, One More Cheerful Action (featuring Katlyn Conroy), and Animals With Armour.

New Era’s Eve offers the music lovers of Kansas City several opportunities to hear some great music from some of the areas top performers and help out a worthy cause in the process.

Advance tickets for Workfare Benefit concerts

Advance tickets for two of our upcoming benefit concerts are now available for on-line purchase.

On November 19th “The Winston Apple Banned” and “The Rockhills” will perform at Czar Bar (1521 Grand, KC, MO) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the door. Advance tickets to this show can be purchased on-line at: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/137239

On December 4th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Workfare Incorporated will host a Singer-Songwriter Showcase at Jardine’s (4536 Main, KC, MO) featuring some of the best songwriters in the Midwest. Sam Billen, Tony Ladesich, Heather Thornton, Phil Neal and Winston Apple will perform.

Information on upcoming benefits

The following acts will be performing for our benefit at Mike Kelly’s Westsider on Saturday, October 9th, beginning at 6 p.m. – The Troy Allen Band, The Winston Apple Band, The Bent Wheatleys, and Christian Morrision. It is likely that there will be some “special guests” performing that night as well.

Mike Kelly’s Westsider is located at 1515 Westport Road, in Kansas City, Missouri. (This is about five block east of State Line.) It’s a great venue. We look forward to seeing you there.

Also, remember that the kick-off for our series of benefit concerts will be this Saturday, October 2nd, at The Main Street Coffee House (107 South Main Street in Independence). Winston Apple will perform from 7 pm to 9 pm. This is an all-ages show.

There is no cover charge for either concert. Donations are requested, but not required.

Workfare Incorporated declares war on unemployment!

Workfare’s goal is a substantially lower unemployment rate by next Labor Day and every Labor Day thereafter until we achieve full employment.

To celebrate Labor Day 2010, Workfare Incorporated declared war on unemployment. Workfare is launching a major fund-raising campaign that will begin with an ongoing series of benefit concerts.

The initial concert will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 2nd, at the Main Street Coffee House (107 South Main Street in Independence). Winston Apple will perform.

A second concert will take place beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 9th, at Mike Kelly’s Westsider (1515 Westport Road in Kansas City, MO). The acts involved and the times each act will perform will be announced soon.

Both of these concerts are free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted and encouraged, but not required.

The “shot heard ’round the world” was not actually “heard” around the world until the repercussions of the American Revolution became evident. In much the same way, the opening salvos of the War on Unemployment may not be heard “around the world” for some time to come. However, with your help, they will eventually be heard.

Greater KC Chamber of Commerce

Workfare Incorporated has joined the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. We are looking forward to working with some of the top firms in the Kansas City metropolitan area as we raise the money needed to break ground on our Urban Renewal Project.

Web site redesign is complete

The redesign of our web site has been completed. I would like to thank Scott Shorter of Concera Media for his help and guidance with this project.

We will be adding a few more bells and whistles in the days to come, but we now have a secure method of accepting on-line donations (via PayPal). We would like to encourage all of our supporters to try out the new “Donate” button and to encourage others to do the same.

Reducing unemployment significantly will require raising huge amounts of money. We need all the help we can get.

We are pleased to announce that the Internal Revenue Service, upon review of our application, granted Workfare Incorporated 501(c)3 status on September 3rd. This means that contributions made to Workfare Incorporated are tax-deductible. (Contributions made prior to this ruling are also tax deductible under the retroactive provisions of the law.)
