Final Cut Studio is a great editing suite. But when things go wrong, they can go very, very wrong. This set of utilities covers your back in the edit bay. Created by an editor for editors, Jon Chappell and Digital Rebellion have created a software pack that keeps your workflow clean and operational. It can also help you save time when things go wrong, diagnosing and fixing issues where and when they occur. From finding and fixing corrupt clips to (our favorite) analyzing crashes and managing preferences, this utility pack can be a lifesaver. If you cut of Final Cut Studio, check it out! Also, Dan finally gets his Canon 5d.

Finally, something that truly levels the playing field between mainstream broadcasting and upstarts. The “Tools on Air” suite is a powerful combo of apps that run on Macs and give you traditional broadcast workflows for pennies on the dollar. Best of all, unlike many traditional software products in the broadcast industry, thereʼs a common-sense UI and it works! Whether youʼre sending a stream or go live-to-tape or just want a highly efficient multi-location ingest that links direct with your NLEʼs, you gotta check it out. Go to their site and follow along if you can. Itʼs a Dan-favorite. Also, rumors on Blackmagicʼs Divinci Resolve to be addressed soon.

The good news is there are several options for asset management platforms in a metadata-driven workflow world. The bad news is theyʼre all a lot of work to get started. Still, as weʼve discussed they pay off big dividends going forward. Still, making the decision between Final Cut Server, Avid offerings or others can be tough. Thatʼs why youʼve got to do your homework and check ʻem all out. Thatʼs why weʼve got Cat DV on Workflow Junkies.
The processing power of the cloud is being harnessed by a Southern California startup serving the video and film industry and anybody else whoʼs spend way too much time waiting around for files to render. Now, instead of rending processor power, you can upload your animation files to the web and have them processed in the cloud and fed right back to you online in record time.	We love the cloud, we love farming out workflow and bringing it all together for a finished project. Find out whatʼs to love about Render Rocket.

In many cases video pros look for workflow solutions within the worlds they’re exposed to and are hesitant to go outside the comfort zone. Creative Cow moderator and production genius Floh Peters of Germany’s Magic Eye shows us simple solutions may be as close as Media 100. A common sense editing platform you many not of even heard of. The platform boasts a familiar, easy to use UI, but has some remarkably simple workflow solutions like realtime stereo multi-take voice over and advanced audio mixing for multichannel output. Duh. Why didn’t someone give us that before? Turns out Media 100 did, and there’s more. Check out some cool workflows we call “workflohs” with Floh Peters on Media 100.

If you are interested in Media 100, you can participate in a webinar on Febraury 4th, featuring a preview of the next software version with workflow-related enhancements.
Philip Hodgetts is one of the best known figures in the video production industry. His insight into metadata inspire new workflows that will be commonplace in the future. Philip and partner Greg have rolled all that knowledge into some remarkable software that does takes a good weekʼs work of a producer, 2 APʼs and an editor and kicks it out in minutes. You guessed it, itʼs all driven by metadata. Donʼt miss this one.

Turbo.264HD is a big thing in a small package. For $149, this thing can change our transcoding workflow saving you CPU crunch, time and money. It promises consumers easy encoding for Mac, iPod and iPhone, but thereʼs a workflow for pros, too. It handles your giant HD files, allows you to combine clips into one, batch convert, and choose from a list of formats. Cool, huh. Find out why production proʼs I know consider it their secret little weapon.
They do, but not when you have to rebuild them every time your system chokes on your project. Hollywood editor Ron Diamond figured there should be a simple solution, allowing you to keep your preferences and even take them with you. He created that solution and added many more features in a little app called, “Usermatic.” Published by Ronʼs company Edit Groove, “Usermatic” is a real timesaver and in some cases a life saver. Ron even offers a discount to WFJ listeners! Plus, Kai Pradel from MediaSilo unveils the goodies behind the 2.0 release for online video workflow.

<itunes:summary>We look at the new AVCHD cameras and their unique workflows with Josh Brown, product guru for B#38;H Photo and Video in New York. Therersquo;s been lots of talk about P2 and Memory Stick workflows for professionals, but more and more pros are embracing the format initially marketed to the consumer and prosumer market. AVCHD looks crisp, and fits an enormous amount of data on tiny SD cards. But when expanded, these file are b-i-g. Is there a place for this compression technology in your workflow? Whatrsquo;s the difference in prosumer cameras compared to P2? Wersquo;ll take a look on this episode of Workflow Junkies.
