How to built your Personality

2017-04-05T09:55:00.003-07:00

How to build your Personality

The personality is the typical pattern of thinking, feeling, and behaviors that make a person unique.

When we say that someone has a "good personality" we mean that they are likeable, interesting and pleasant to be with.

Everyone wants to be attractive to others. To that end, having a good personality is vital - probably even more so than good looks. In fact, approximately 85 percent of your success and happiness will be a result of how well you interact with others. Ultimately, it is your personality that determines whether people are attracted to, or shy away from you.

While we can only enhance our looks to a certain extent, we have the ability to improve the personality as much as we want. We can develop or integrate any trait we deem fitting and agreeable.

Here are someways we can build your personality:

Be a better listener. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was considered one of the most charming women in the world because she cultivated the skill of being an exceptional listener. She was known for the way she would look a person in the eyes, hang on their every word, and make them feel important. There is nothing more appealing than having someone listen to you intently making you feel like you're the only person in the world.

Read more and expand your interests. The more you read and cultivate new interests, the more interesting you are to others. When you meet new people it gives you the opportunity to share what you know and to exchange your views with them.

Be a good conversationalist. This relates to how much you read and know. Once you have much to contribute, learn how to talk about it with others. No one can read about or know everything, so it's refreshing to learn from others those things we don't have the time to about read ourselves. If you happen to be shy, join a group like Toastmasters that encourages you to talk about what you know.

Have an Opinion. There is nothing more tiresome than trying to talk to someone who has no opinion on anything. A conversation has nowhere to go if you have nothing to expound on. If, however, you have an uncommon point of view or differing opinion, you are more interesting and stimulating to be with socially (unless you're a know-it-all, of course). A unique outlook expands everyone's perspective.

Meet New People. Make the effort to meet new people especially those unlike you. It not only exposes you to different cultures and alternative ways of doing things, it broadens your horizons.

Be yourself. The next most tiresome thing after having no opinions is trying to be something you're not. Molding yourself in order to fit in, or be accepted, usually backfires. Since each of us is unique, expressing that uniqueness is what makes us interesting. Attempting to be a carbon copy of someone else not only falls flat, but reveals a lack of authenticity.

Have a positive outlook and attitude. Who wants to be around people who are negative, complain a lot, or have nothing good to say? In fact, most of us run when we see them coming. Instead, be the kind of upbeat person who lights up a room with your energy when you enter it. Do it by looking for the best in people and things. Smile warmly, spread good cheer, and enliven others with your presence.
fun and see the humorous side of life. Everyone enjoys the company of someone who makes them laugh, or smile, so look for the humorous, quirky side in a situation - there always is one. Comic relief is a much welcome and needed diversion at times. When you can add fun and lightheartedness to an otherwise dull or gloomy setting, others will naturally be attracted to you, not to mention grateful.

Be supportive of others. Being supportive is probably the most endearing quality you can integrate into your personality. Just as you yourself welcome it, be the support for others when they need it. We all love a cheerleader in our corner; someone who is encouraging, believes in us and helps pick us up when we're down.

Have Integrity and treat people with respect. Being honest and true to your word will bring you the admiration, respect and gratitude of others. Nothing improves a person's personality more than integrity and respect - respect for others, as well as respect for yourself.

We humans have the power and ability to shape our personalities however we wish. When we develop ourselves to be all that we can be, we contribute to our own, as well as the happiness of others.

Golden Heart Lady

Golden Heart Lady

I had to relocate from New Delhi to Bangalore with my husband because of the new job . Soon we found a new house in a neighborhood, which we instantly liked.

As we settled in finally, it dawned upon me that I need to search for the life-line of any household, called "maid". Since I was new to the place and I had never been to the South before in my life, I was a little apprehensive.

I went to my neighbors and inquired about maids, but in-vain, as they were too busy to accommodate me. I was getting hassled since I was not finding one. As I was mulling over it in my balcony one day, I saw a small brick house at the end of the road where our building stood. An old lady was sitting outside the house with a small boy on her lap.

Something in me told I should go to her and ask her if she could be of any help. Though my husband was a bit reluctant about it but he did not stop me. I went to her and asked if she knows someone who can work as a maid. She did not understand Hindi/English since she was from Andhra. She was a part of the migrant laborers who lived near construction sites.

Although she did not understand what I said, she uttered some name and gestured me to come with her. She took me to a young girl who used to work as a maid in different buildings nearby, and asked her to work at my place in local language. She helped me get a maid finally. I said thanks to her and I was really grateful.

After that day, every time she saw me leaving for office or anywhere, she would gesture and ask if I have eaten and I would say yes. I really don't know but this simple thing made me feel very emotional. She made me feel like a family member worrying about my well being.

Not only that. Whenever my maid did not come and if I happen to tell her this through sign language, she would be there to do the chores, and I was amazed to see that even after facing so many hardships, she was always ready to help with a smile.

Soon we moved out of India for work but I don't think I will ever be able to forget her. Her good nature, charm and demeanor will always stay with me and remind me that in order to help, you need not be rich or powerful or educated. You just need to have a heart!

I am not a Dreamer My Only Wish

I am not a dreamer, yet I have my hopes and ambitions, and I always strive to achieve the goals that I have set before me.

Since my childhood, I have been very fond of reading books and playing challenging games. My mother tells me that I rode a horse when I was only 8 years old, after I had seen a picture-book which contained a soldier riding a horse.

Again, at the age of 12, I began to swim, though my father scared me by saying that water was not only a friend, but dangerous too. As a student of secondary classes, 1 opted for swimming, and used to go to the school-pool every evening for training. It was then included in the Time-table.

Since I passed my Secondary Examination securing a high second division, I took to reading good books, in addition to my course books, and thus succeeded in securing 88 per cent marks in the Senior School Certificate Examination last year.

My only wish is to be a great scholar. I read books on almost all subjects. Burning the midnight oil is now very common for me, as this would help me in achieving my objective of being a scholar.

7 Natural Ways To Boost Your Brain Power + Sharpen Your Mind

Of course, there's very little you can do to stop time. You can be that as it may, enhance the nature of your life inside the time you have — and that incorporates keeping your mind sharp and energetic.

Much the same as working out your muscles helps your musculoskeletal framework remain solid, any movement that includes hone makes the mind transmit motions in a particular example again and again, taking into account associations between neurons to reinforce. That implies your mind gets more grounded, as well.

In any case, it's not quite recently mental activities that can fortify your noggin. From eating the correct sustenances to rehearsing "profound tuning in," here are my most loved basic approaches to keep your mind sharp and dynamic.

1. Rehearse reflection to reduction stretch.

Thinks about demonstrates that perpetual anxiety can harm the mind. So you can help ensure and reinforce your mind by taking part in exercises or way of life propensities that lessening the terminating of your anxiety reaction.

One of the most ideal approaches to do this is through building up a contemplation rehearse, regardless of the possibility that it's only 10 to 20 minutes a day. You can hone breath-centered activities, care contemplation, yoga, Tai Chi, or take part in a profound practice or custom, similar to supplication.

2. Take up intellectual preparing works out.

The mind remains sharp when the pliancy of the cerebrum is kept up. Mind versatility alludes to the cerebrum's capacity to always show signs of change through the span of a man's lifetime. What's more, this pliancy can be looked after — and even better, enhanced — by taking part in subjective preparing works out, which challenge your scholarly limit.

You can take up playing chess, taking in another dialect, or juggling. What's more, playing tabletop games can fortify your reasoning, and in addition your deftness. You can even accomplish something straightforward like take toward another path to drive to work, sort or look with the inverse hand, or join your faculties by eating while at the same time tuning in to music with your eyes shut.

3. Practice your body — for your cerebrum.

Look into demonstrates that physical exercise improves intellectual capacity. One reason may be on the grounds that it builds levels of cerebrum inferred neurotrophic figure (BDNF), a protein that enhances learning, memory and higher thinking by invigorating development of new neurons and helping existing neurons remain alive.

Walk outside where the landscape isn't unsurprising, with the goal that you're culminating your adjust and working your foot-eye coordination in the meantime. Yoga or judo additionally empower you to practice coordination, stream of development, adjust and the engagement of various muscle bunches. What's more, keep in mind to fit in some oxygen consuming activity also, getting your heart rate up for no less than 15 minutes a couple times each week.

4. Hone profound tuning in.

Whenever you're occupied with exercises that require correspondence, your neurons need to flame and neurotransmitters need to work. Damage to the cerebrum and even excessively stress can challenge this correspondence thruway and make talking, tuning in, understanding prompts and coordinating data more troublesome.

Much the same as a contemplation practice can bring down the enactment of the anxiety reaction and along these lines calm the psyche, you need to get into the act of routinely calming the mind so that the neurons can carry out their employment of conveying.

I call this practice "profound tuning in," where you permit yourself to take a respite and a full breath. This furnishes you with the space you have to completely hear words and take in the subtleties. The inhabitants of this practice are:

Try not to surge when conveying. Hold up, take a delay.

Relax. Breathe in profoundly and breathe out totally, permitting the brain to calm.

Tune in with your heart. See how words affect you. Attempt to connect with the greater part of your faculties.

Compose first. In the event that you feel candidly charged, you might need to scribble down what you're feeling to help pick up clearness before you stand up.

Locate a protected place to tirade. You can pick a companion, specialist or advocate whom you know you can securely address without stressing that you may be judged. You will find that when you discharge whatever is repressed, you can all the more effortlessly tune in and impart.

5. Jettison the sugar.

An eating regimen high in sugar can be unsafe to the cerebrum, inciting irritation, oxidative anxiety and poor insulin direction.

Your objective, in this way, is to take after an eating regimen that helps you enhance insulin affectability and decrease aggravation. This implies eating fish, some meat, a great deal of vegetables, a few nuts and seeds, some products of the soil little grains.

6. Support your cerebrum with cell reinforcements.

Your cerebrum benefits from a low sugar admission, as well as from getting more cell reinforcements, which can help enhance your memory, learning and general psychological execution.

Cancer prevention agent rich sustenances incorporate berries (particularly blueberries), products of the soil like carrots, spinach and red grapes, and beverages like green tea, red wine, and espresso, and in addition dim chocolate (with some restraint, obviously).

7. Think about it.

We've all had that minute when we're restless and can't recall where we put the keys or what we went into the kitchen to get. You can't completely work when you're restless — and this incorporates your subjective aptitudes, memory and capacity to think unmistakably or impart.

On the off chance that you don't feel very much refreshed, check whether you require more hours of rest or if it's an issue of enhancing the nature of rest. Consider getting a Fitbit or other device that screens how soothingly you're dozing, or have a rest concentrate done by your specialist. You may find that you essentially need to wake up too soon to get the perfect measure of hours in. If so, consider taking snoozes, which can help you make up for lost time with those.

Why Boring Tasks Are Important… And How to Get Through Them

Beyond question, there are a considerable measure of assignments and things in this world that we do that are exhausting and everyday… except that are additionally bravo.

Regardless of whether it's adjusting the books, eating similar dinners over and over, or accumulating dreary Excel spreadsheets, these things all have unimaginable esteem that can prompt long haul achievement and settlements, however while we're doing them they simply appear to be dull, monotonous and… exhausting.

Presently a great deal of things can be rewired to wind up plainly intrinsically intriguing to us – particularly if the stakes and results change. In any case, the reality remains, infrequently you simply need to "take the necessary steps" with regards to dreary things.

So the question progresses toward becoming – how would we continue doing the exhausting things, without getting exhausted of them?

There's the basic saying of "buckle down, play hard", and our elucidation of the message behind that will be steady in your work and what's imperative, and to utilize different exercises to offset the monotony of the exhausting things.

Another method for putting it:

A Long-Term Solution to Boredom

The genuine, long haul answer for taking care of exhausting errands is to make them fascinating, or to transform them into oblivious propensities.

Making them fascinating is really the harder of the two. On the off chance that you have work errands that are exhausting, it might be outlandish – unless you truly figure out how to love your occupation or potentially business. Doing as such won't make everything super-energizing, yet the exhausting parts turn out to be less exhausting. A decent case of this is you may abhor adjusting the books or handling finance – until you understand doing as such can uncover bookkeeping wasteful aspects that add to the main issue, or that ensuring your group is paid on time enhances the whole business.

Transforming drilling assignments into oblivious propensities is more direct. While there is a more granular technique accessible for framing propensities, the least complex way is this: do it for 30 days. For those 30 days, it'll be exhausting (yawn). In any case, from that point forward, it ends up noticeably standard and you quit considering it – and you do what needs to be done. One truly basic case is setting off to the rec center. For the initial 30 days, you have to JUST GO. From that point forward, it turns into a propensity… and an enslavement.

Here and now Solutions to Boredom

So that is pleasant and great… however shouldn't something be said about for the time being?

What would we be able to do at this moment to reduce the weariness and add the extraordinary to the dreary?

All things considered, that is the appropriate response in that spot – spike your time with intriguing exercises… . yet, structure them in and put limiters on them.

This can be anything from organized downtime, to an once-off action, to simply accomplishing something other than what's expected. We as a whole do this normally in some frame at any rate – let me expand.

Back in Australia, I have a great deal of companions who work 9-5. Nothing amiss with that.

All week, what they're anticipating is Friday night drinks at the bar – this is their exclusive energizing "spike" for the week.

Be that as it may, in all actuality, you can make your own spikes.

Here are a few cases to kick you off:

Getting together with a companion for lunch amid the week.

Having one night where you enjoy your most loved TV appear.

Arranging an end of the week getaway each quarter.

Arbitrarily and incautiously going to an exhibition opening or another fascination around the local area.

Doing an insane work challenge on an exhausting movement – and perceiving the amount of it you can take.

What these self-incited spikes do is they lighten the weariness. They let us offset the dull with the outstanding.

They likewise let us constrain the level of our spikes, and what number of them there are – this is critical, as the everyday still needs to complete.

In Closing

For the time being, discover things to occupy you – however structure them so they are restricted.

In the long haul, figure out how to shape propensities. Do what needs to be done for 30 days, and let it sink into your examples of conduct.

Lastly, figure out how to make the exhausting… intriguing. Figure out how to love what you do – or go accomplish something else!

Anything Was Better than That

Anything Was Better than That

Anything was better than that.

"Any damn thing," I said, pausing for nerve before bursting through the doors...

***

The lift ride had been long. And I'd figured we'd be crammed together like lemmings, herded into the mine below, but it was just four of us, my Daddy included.

"No worries, boy." The tool pusher had said, triggering the lantern on his hard-hat. "First time down's the worse." His light beamed across my clenched fists.

"You'll be getting' used to it right soon," my Daddy told me.

I grinned and tried to believe him, but he sounded muffled and distant.

Damn!

I plugged my nose and equalized. They'd warned me, but I didn't believe that either.

The lift whined and screeched, and we shuddered to a halt. The tool pusher swung the gate open. I dug my fingers into my hands with excitement, but instead of stiff pain stabbing my palms, I felt four soft tips. I'd cut my nails the night before on the advice of my Daddy. "That black dust gets in everything. It's impossible to get out."

I peered out of the lift with a nod. This deep below the surface, the air reeked of earth, and the sour taste of coal settled on the tongue. It was cold, too, but motionless, except for the gang of miners just beyond the gate, waiting for us to unload so they could return topside. They swayed, leaning upon each other as though each man alone lacked the strength to hold himself upright.

The sight made me open my hands. Black dirt clouded their faces and overalls. Their eyes, though, that's what got me. Was it the light? I couldn't tell. But as I searched, nothing gazed back except the purest, emptiest blackness.

"Let's go, son." My Daddy's voice. He'd stepped off the lift and stood with the others.

And I saw his eyes too.

"It's okay." He gestured down the tunnel. "I'll show you the ropes. Like I promised."

I shook my head.

He stepped forward, but I backed against the lift's wall. "No way in hell."

"You need this job, son."

He was right; I did need it---me and High School just never got along.

But I refused to budge.

"C'mon out," the tool pusher growled and grasped my wrist. "They're waitin' on you."

I pulled against him, but he held fast.

My Daddy reached for me. I looked him dead in the eye. And I made my decision.

I kicked the tool pusher in the groin. When he hit the ground, I buried another boot in his ribs. That got him out of the lift. I slammed the gate and punched the button, sending the cables whining.

"I got you this job!" My Daddy hollered after me. "What're you gonna do for work?"

***

That was the last I ever heard from him, but to this day, I still think of him staring upward through the darkness.

And anything was better than that...

"Any damn thing," I growled and burst through the doors, rushing the nearest teller with shotgun raised.

All the Best Surfers-Short Story

2017-03-31T11:52:00.001-07:00

It was a summer day in the early 1980s when my buddy Al handed me the surfboard wax and said, "here, put this on your feet."

"Right," I laughed.

"No, man. I'm serious. Wax your feet."

Al's sense of humor was really dry, and sometimes it was impossible to tell when he was joking. Like the night he convinced sixteen-year-old me I looked twenty-one and insisted I go into a liquor store to buy beer.

"You have ID?" the store owner glared as I set the alcohol on the counter.

"Uh, I must've left it in the car."

"Well," he pushed the six-pack toward me, "why don't you put this back in the freezer."

Al laughed for five minutes after I walked out glowing cherry red.

Needless to say, I remained skeptical about this wax deal. "It's for your board. Not your feet."

"Yeah. But look, it removes all the grease and stuff so you get better traction."

I kept quiet.

"I can't believe you don't believe me!" He grabbed the wax, dropped butt-first onto the cement, and began rubbing it against his heel. "All the best surfers are doing this. I heard about it at a contest. It works---but you don't trust me."

"I trust you," I replied. "Just not right now."

"Whatever, man. You'll see, though."

What happened next was so perfect, I still wonder if Al somehow planned it.

Marching onto the beach with board under arm, I was momentarily transfixed by the medium-sized waves breaking against the outer reef. As I planned the best passage through the whitewater, Al elbowed me. I followed his nod toward a pair of surfers seated on the sand.

They were a couple of Filipino guys, which was unusual in North County---most surfers up here were as white as Wonder Bread---and they had these tiny five-foot boards with two fins---the trendy thing before three became the mainstay of surfboard design. At first, I wondered what Al was pointing out, the Filipinos or their awesome boards. Suddenly, I did a double-take. Sure enough, they were rubbing wax against the bottoms of their feet!

I shook my head and Al grinned ear-to-ear, an expression which grew even wider when we saw the Filipinos surf. Spray flew over the backs of waves as they carved their turns, flawlessly completing sets of 360s---also trendy back then, but these guys pulled them like full-on pros.

After one of them ripped an off-the-lip and soaked us with spray, Al could contain himself no longer. "Told you!" he boasted with a chuckle.

"Okay, you win," I grimaced.

Yeah, Al may have been right---but I'm stubborn. Even after that experience, I still never rubbed surf wax on my feet---and in the fifteen years since, I've never caught anyone else doing it either!

Because of this, I feel like I deserve the last laugh. But one thing keeps me silent: maybe those are the only guys I know of who waxed their feet, but to this day, they're also the absolute best surfers I've ever seen.

After shock- Short story

2017-03-31T11:45:00.003-07:00

After shock

The door swung slowly inward, and I clung onto the jamb so tightly it made my knuckles pale. The room stared at me silently, but I felt it shake, a rumbling like thunder, everything crashing all around...

No! It was over! The earthquake had ended!

I took a deep breath, wrenching my hand free, and forced myself into the room. I wanted to step surely, solidly, as though that would bring stability back, but my shoes crunched upon the broken china strewn about the floor. I dodged my couch, spun from its normal perch, and came to the nightstand and lamp which lay on their sides.

Somehow, neither lay broken. I picked up the lamp. It still gave off a sparkling reflection from its cylindrical base, and I twisted it around and gazed into it like a crystal ball. The littered floor, the table and couch, my fallen bureau, the overturned desk and computer, pictures that'd slid from the wall---all this reflected at me in an image distorted by the lamp's shape.

And there, in the midst of this distortion, blurred into a single image with the disarray about the room, was my face, a warped figure staring, eyes unnaturally wide.

Something screamed from the corner, and I dropped the lamp and covered my ears.

Down, down, down it fell, as if in slow motion, and my reflection within the base seemed to reach out, arms groping futilely above its head to stop the fall.

The lamp hit the hardwood floor and shattered, spraying shards everywhere.

The scream came again.

I wanted to scream back, but was stopped by a sudden realization. "The phone!" I grunted, dropping my hands. I pushed my way into the kitchen. The reek coming from my overturned refrigerator nearly overwhelmed me, but I took short breaths, trying to inhale only through my mouth, and lifted the receiver.

"You okay?" my brother's voice asked calmly, a contrast to everything that surrounded me.

"I... I... think..." I began to answer.

"It's alright," he interrupted. "Maybe it's still too soon."

"No!" I blurted. "I can do this."

"Look, earthquakes are traumatic. And you had the worse of it."

"No!" I called again. "Damn it! I can handle this! It's been long enough."

My brother paused briefly, then said, "I know how you feel. I've been scared too. It can take time."

My grasp threatened to crush the phone and I cried, "Damn you! It's been three months, and I've never been---" I cut myself short.

Voice soothing, he said, "Okay. You decide what's best. You're welcome to keep staying with us---lucky my wife still likes you!" He laughed, and continued more solemnly, "It's up to you. But remember. There's no shame in this. You've been through a lot."

I nodded with the phone still to my cheek, and said, "Okay."

After I hung up, I glanced around. The light flashed off the lamp shards I'd recently added to the mess, reflecting tiny pieces of myself scattered about.

"No shame!" I cried shaking my head with my eyes closed.

Based on a true story.
