Beyonce had little to prove on her second solo outing, B'DAY, having already demonstrated her taste, (solo) vocal prowess, and sparkling star quality on her first post-Destiny's Child release in 2003. Nevertheless, the singer and her crack team of producers and collaborators (R&B's finest, including the Neptunes, Swizz Beats, and Rich Harrison) have come up with a collection that's at least equal to her previous triumphs, and that shows off an almost angry intensity only hinted at on earlier releases.

The club hit "Deja Vu," with an extended rap from boyfriend/producer Jay-Z, boasts an addictive bass line that contrasts dramatically with Beyonce's emotive upper register. The haunting "Ring the Alarm" is a multilayered melodrama built around a dizzying minor-key hook that relies on Beyonce's vocal dexterity and newfound fire. Despite the appealing bravado of most of the tracks on B-DAY, the most memorable song is the beautiful lovelorn ballad "Irreplaceable," on which a wounded Beyonce protesteth too much about an errant lover's dispensability. Her nuanced and soul-deep performance suggests the tearful hurt lying at the center of all that anger.

If you want to know why Justin Guarini is destined to be the American Idol, just watch what he does to Paula Abdul. When the 23-year-old stunner with the golden curls locked those liquid brown eyes on hers while crooning the Jackson 5's ''Who's Lovin' You,'' Ms. Abdul was reduced from sophisticated pop diva to human puddle. Next came that steamy, dreamy rendition of Oleta Adams' ''Get Here.'' As Justin stretched out the title plea into a silky ribbon of falsetto, the audience of female contestants whooped and shrieked and feigned fainting spells. Abdul, however, remained quiet, her eyes welling with tears of ''damn, that boy can SING'' rapture. ''I have to compose myself,'' she whimpered afterward.

You and me both, sister. Sure, Justin Haters exist; message board meanies sneer at his terminally tousled 'do (they call him Sideshow Bob), his ''hey, sexy'' glances into the camera, and his so-called cockiness (it's called confidence, mmkay?). But naysay all you like -- it won't change what we Justin Lovers know to be true: He is every boyfriend's worst nightmare; he could, as ''AI'' reject-turned-critic Tamika says, sing the phone book to us and we'd be happy; and on Sept. 4 he will walk away with America's hearts -- and, more important, their votes.

Australian Idol : DAMIEN LEITH - AUSTRALIA'S LATEST SOLO SENSATION

“It’s quite simple,” Damien says with a laugh after I ask him to send a message to the fans who helped him to become our latest Australian Idol. “Thanks a million!”

The down-to-earth dad has barely had time to reflect on his well-deserved win over the last week, with announcements of pending recordings making it perfectly clear that the victorious crooner will have his hands full over the next few months, if not years.

Damien Leith: The Winners Journey is set to hit shop shelves. It’s a retrospective CD/DVD release that features the champ’s Idol performances plus Damien’s Number 1 single, Night of My Life. The release is intended to keep fans sated while SonyBMG provides Damien with the time and resources to create a remarkable debut album. For a man who likes to consider his tastes ‘alternative’, the record label’s attitude is a tonic. “They’ve been fantastic,” he says enthusiastically. “Even with the single, The B-side’s one of my songs and you know what? It’s not a particularly commercial song. So yeah, that’s really encouraging.”

It’s Damien’s integrity as an artist that always came to the fore during his Idol journey. Under fire from a scathing judging panel and faced with challenging themes, Damien remained true to himself. It was one of the qualities that impressed his fans. “Well,” he says thoughtfully. “That’s great because I hoped people would notice that. I always tried to stay true to that throughout the whole series.”

Another admirable quality of our new Australian Idol is his commitment to his family, and it was only when he talked about his wife and child on the show that the tough character lost composure. I asked him if Idol had trained him to cope with the balance between being a star and being a husband/father. “Well, Idol does train you on all sorts of levels,” he admits. “Eileen and I, we’ve discussed it, just last night, and I want them to be involved, every step of the way.”

The most important step of that journey will be the recording of Damien’s debut album, set for release in the new year. Feedback from SonyBMG suggests that the label is absolutely rapt to have such a capable artist on their roster and won’t be rushing the finished product. That’s music to Damien’s ears. “It’s true what they said,” Damien explains. “They want to take their time and we’ll be recording what will hopefully be a great album.”

As for the aspiring Idols, preparing to nervously face the panel during the 2007 Australian Idol Audition Tour, Damien sounded quite amused, probably remembering his original meeting with the larger-than-life judges. “If you’re a performer, you have to audition,” he says without hesitation. “Musically, Idol is the best thing I’ve ever done in my life”.

As you all know, I'm the biggest Carrie/Kellie fan, so I thought that I'd put down some facts about Carrie. Here's some:

I never thought that any of this would actually happen to me. These kinds of things only happen to imaginary characters on television or in the movies…not real people.

I began my life with the best family in the world already waiting for me. I was the last of three girls, the other two being nine and 12 by the time I came along. I had a very happy childhood full of the wonderful simple things that children love to do. Growing up in the country, I enjoyed things like playing on dirt roads, climbing trees, catching little woodland creatures and, of course, singing.

I started my musical career at a very early age singing songs in church like “Jesus Loves Me.” As I grew up, Mrs. Cooper’s music class was an easy favorite. I somehow landed all of the lead roles in the third through fifth grade musicals. As I got older, I pushed my mom to take me to local talent shows. I never won, but usually placed. I was so excited when I won a $25 savings bond or a trophy. Little did I know that those little things would someday lead me down the road I’m on today.

In high school, I still sang, but only at things like county fairs, school events, church, and car shows. I focused more on school than anything else and graduated second in my class in May of 2001. After high school, I pretty much gave up on the dream of singing. I had reached a point in my life where I had to be practical and prepare for my future in the “real world.”

American Idol : Jasmine Trias Hits it Big

Jasmine Trias will start a residency at The Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas in February with The Society of Seven. American Idol : Sarah Mather Discusses Life Post-Idol

Season four’s Sarah Mather has certainly made the most of her post-Idol life thus far. After spending merely one day back in her hometown of Wilmington, NC, she picked up her stuff and moved to New York City. Since then, she’s been busy singing in some local clubs, recording, and even doing some TV and modeling work. She admits that the move to NYC was a bit daunting at first, but she did not want the people of her hometown to feel sorry for her upon her return from American Idol. Thankfully, the reaction from the people of Wilmington was completely the opposite, and they were nothing but proud of Sarah. However, she doesn’t regret the move to the Big Apple. She wanted to keep things moving forward instead of looking back and dwelling on what she might have done wrong, and that’s exactly what she’s done.

Sarah spends a lot of time these days writing and recording music with her producer, Ernie Lake. Her most recent project was shooting a video for a film called “Muhammed.” Sarah also finds herself constantly auditioning for various roles in TV commercials and pilots. While she’s continuously challenging herself with new pursuits, music is still her greatest passion. As she said, “It’s great to be able to write everything and express myself.” Her confidence has only grown since being on American Idol, which helps her in all her endeavors.

Being on American Idol is one adventure Sarah won’t soon forget. She called it a “great experience”; going on to say that everyone involved was so caring. The whole thing was almost surreal for Sarah. Being in her early twenties and just getting started in entertainment, she was shocked by the sudden and huge exposure she received while on American Idol. She’s grateful for that chance and said she “felt safe”, on top of developing really close relationships with fellow contestants and producers. Some might be surprised to learn that she didn’t have anything negative to say about the judges, but in fact she greatly appreciated their feedback. She called their critiques very constructive and said that you turn around and “take it and do what you want with it.” She’s learned to retain the positive and use it to make herself better.

Life as a New Yorker has really agreed with Sarah. She calls it the “real deal” and “so amazing!” For her, living there is one giant opportunity. “You can be somewhere and meet someone that can be so instrumental.” Not to mention, she has played in some stellar venues, such as The Bitter End and The Cutting Room. As she said, “On any given night you can find a legend like Sting playing” in either one of those places, so it’s quite a “humbling” experience for her.
