Interesting Shaw House by Patkau Architects, Vancouver, Canada

This quite interesting home is designed by Patkau Architects for Vancouver, Canada. Amazing swimming pool above your head will surprise you as soon as you walk on this property.

Shaw house is designed with one goal, to push the limits. It's built in the area of high seismic activity which requested strong concrete structure to withstand any type of earthquake. But architects decided to push it to the edge and build interesting swimming pool with transparent bottom on the first floor. And when I say "to the edge" I mean literally because house is built right on the edge above the English bay.

Home inspiration part: Swimming pool. The best thing about this interesting home. It makes it even more amazing with the fact that is built on the area of strong seismic activity, but this thing would look good on every house. That transparent bottom creates really nice atmosphere below it.

"The house is organized with living spaces on grade, private spaces above grade, and music room below grade. The dimensions of the site made it difficult to locate the lap pool on grade while retaining generous living spaces. Consequently, the lap pool is located above grade, along the west side of the house, connected at either end to the terraces off of the bedroom and study.

Within the narrow floor plates spatial expansion is only possible outward over the water and upward through the volume of the house. Small spaces are enlarged with generous ceiling heights, while the fully interiorized dining room rises through the floor above to a clerestory that brings both daylight and light reflected from the lap pool deep into the central area of the plan."

Compromise In Architecture; One Home, Two Different Faces

Hawthorn Home is designed by Canny Design for Hawthorn, Australia. When seen from the street, it doesn't differ too much from other houses in its neighborhood. But it hides completely different face in the backyard.

This is beauty of architectural design. It's compromise. Typical house from the street, modern home in the backyard.

"The initial client brief was to create a home that would allow independent living zones for the needs of the growing family. With three teenage boys the home allows ample breakout spaces for the children to be active and yet still enjoy the togetherness of combined family areas. The clients required a new home with a traditional façade to the complement the streetscape, yet a more contemporary feel as one moved through to the rear of the home. The front rooms took on a traditional feel, whilst the rear presented more modern attributes.

The rear of the home showcases a distinctive curved pool house with expansive pool outlook. Dual outdoor entertaining areas with canopy skylights and recessed alfresco heaters allow for continuous enjoyment throughout all seasons. All of these elements were carefully integrated and designed with the landscape.
The highly detailed cellar is perhaps the standout feature of this residence. Complete with 2,000 unit wine storage, Vintec wine fridge, tasting bench, sink and luxe wooden joinery, the room carries an understated opulence and serves as a unique entertaining area for intimate dinner parties and tastings."

Home inspiration part: Besides this beautiful compromise between two architectural designs, I really liked the pool house. Whole backyard with the swimming pool and terrace and nice lawn back there looks great and this sweet modern pool house makes it even better. Just look at this lighting and atmosphere at night. Perfection. It's also worth to mention how glass walls and sliding doors nicely connect interiors with the backyard and everything that is out there.

Modern Architecture In Average Sized Home, Italy

M3 House is designed by well known Monovolume Architecture + Design for Bozen in Italy. It's an average sized home which turned out to be impressive as much as large modern villas.

Simple shaped house with minimal design took only 190 square meters. It has two floors above the ground and one below where car garage is located. Glass facade allows great lighting of interior space while extended roof protects it from too much of sun and serves as rooftop terrace.

There is also nice swimming pool which creates additional outdoor space by the terrace and fulfills modern atmosphere.

"The project M2 at Bozen-Moritzing is a Klimahouse A which hosts two accommodations on separate floors. Because of his punctuated facade in the north and the east it seems closed to the access road. The plastered basement serves as pedestal for the smaller upper floor, which is covered by cladding sheets. To the garden – towards the south and the west – the house opens because of a generous glass façade."

Home inspiration part: I was inspired by the size of this home. It's perfect. It is good example that you can get beautiful modern home without millions of $. You just need to be creative and inspired and everything is possible. Only thing I would change is color. I find those interiors too cold and something in there has to be painted.

Mediterranean Modern Home Architecture In Ibiza, Spain

No matter is it used as a vacation house or permanent residence, this beautiful Mediterranean modern home is designed to show you power of connection between nature and architecture.

Even though Juma Architects designed it for larger family or group of 10 people, the best atmosphere is created with only two people. The house is built on the hill above the sea, right on the line where large Mediterranean sea and green Spanish hills collide.

That's why architect took this opportunity and placed beautiful open terrace with swimming pool on the sea side of the house. Terrace is designed to have higher and lower levels which is brilliant move considering how great views this place has.

Interiors of this modern home are painted all white to attract as much of daylight as possible. Glass walls are placed on the south side to open interiors towards the sea. Minimalism is achieved with lovely wooden furniture like tables, beds and ceiling structures.

Home inspiration part here is definitely beautiful terrace with different levels which I personally find very attractive and interesting, specially that wooden bed with white mattress. Love it. It's not complicated to build, it's not expensive and it's possible in every house with terrace. What inspired you in this home?

Large Modern Home With Lovely City Views, Bel Air, Los Angeles

Sarbonne Road House is one of the beautiful modern homes built in the rich neighborhood of Los Angeles, Bel Air. Residence is designed by McClean Design right on the hill facing the city.

Main goal of this project was to build luxury modern home with warm atmosphere and maximise the useful area on this challenging plot. With this goal, swimming pool was pushed out towards the city which created additional space for terrace and created nice opportunity to enjoy the view.

On the other side, car garage had to be built under the house which again created nice opportunity to design concrete staircase towards the house making it even more luxurious. Interiors are clean and minimal, designed to suck in a lot of daylight and offer always wanted views towards this amazing city.

Cars And Architecture, What Do They Have In Common?

Today we gave ourselves one task. Let's try to connect two completely different things. Let's say cars and architecture. Is there anything that cars and architecture have in common?

Of course they do! Every company has its own headquarters. In our case, there are also factories, showrooms, pavilions, etc. To do our little task we choose Audi. Why Audi? Because they have great taste in both, cars and architecture.

The most impressive building related to this company is their headquarters in Tokyo, called Audi Forum. It is also known as "The Iceberg" because of its beautiful glassy dynamic facade. Forum is designed by Creative Designers International (CDI) and it is definitely one of the most recognized buildings in this mega city. It's even listed as one of 7 architectural wonders of the world in Conde Nast Traveller.

Next Audi building that attracted our attention is Audi Centre in Singapore. With 3 underground floors and 8 floors above the ground it's the tallest Audi facility in the world covering area of 3,057 square meters (32,903 square feet).

Audi Ring is definitely the best example of connection between cars and architecture. This impressive piece of modern architecture is designed by Schmidhuber + Partner in cooperation with KMS TEAM. It's 100 meters long and 70 meters wide modern trade show pavilion with integrated driving track, where up to nine vehicles will be moving simultaneously on two levels, visible also from the outside via elongated openings in the façade.

Audi AreA1 is another pavilion designed by Schmidhuber + Partner, this time in Barcelona, Spain. Visitors to AreA1 are led through a series of zones that follow a clear dramaturgy. First come several showroom modules that present the new A1 in perfect light. Next come exhibition areas designed to display product information, vehicle configuration and connectivity issues in a lively and engaging manner. The last stop on the visit is a small, central marketplace with a bar, seating, and WLAN. This meeting place is also the starting point of the Driving Experience, where visitors can join Audi instructors on a test drive of the new A1.

Third pavilion also designed by talented Schmidhuber + Partner office is Audi Sphere in the historical center of Copenhagen, Denmark. The spheres are textile, air-filled shapes made of a light PVC membrane, embodying the theme of lightweight construction and serving as a walk-in exhibit at the same time.

To get inside the silver sphere, the visitor first steps onto a raised platform. This elevation not only forms an urban square in itself, but also perfectly integrates the three spheres into the surroundings, as no event platform disturbs the space below, allowing it to remain completely open. Each sphere is encircled by an oblique red "meridian" emphasizing the light and elegant design.

Interesting Home In Abandoned Church, The Netherlands

Designing your home can be huge and complex task since we all have millions interesting ideas in our heads how our "castle" should look. Sometimes people take opportunity and build their home in the most unexpected place. Like church.

This interesting home is built in one of the smaller old churches in Utrecht, Netherlands. It's designed by Zecc Architecten. Since original shape of the building gave very little daylight, architects decided to keep interior design bright with minimal furniture.

They also kept it interesting with some darker furniture which created perfect focal points in every part of this home. Total contrast is reached in bathroom which is painted all dark including floors and ceilings while white furniture broke the monotony.

1WTC Topped Out In New York City

One World Trade Center or short 1WTC topped out early in the morning, Friday, May 10th, 2013 in Lower Manhattan, New York.

One of the most famous skyscrapers in the world reached its full height of 451m (1,776ft) when ironworkers installed last two sections of controversial spire. One WTC became the tallest building in New York City, tallest building in the United States putting Willis Tower in Chicago off the throne, and tallest building in Western Hemisphere.

At the moment it's even third tallest building in the world. Topping out was widely followed across the world and some amazing photos were captured this morning. Take a look and come back later as we will ad more during the day. Enjoy.

Queen Of The Penthouses - St Pancras Apartment, London

Bloody Hell! Now, we all love beautiful penthouses and there will always be those that are really amazing and those little less amazing. But here comes the queen.

St Pancras penthouse apartment is located in London and it's designed by Thomas Griem of TG Studio. What is so amazing here is this huge attic space which could had been easily wasted. But it's used in the best possible way. All I would add here is some crazy slide or rope to get myself down like the king.

"TG-Studio has transformed this 3 bedroom penthouse located in the grade 1 listed St Pancras chambers. The apartment is one of three penthouses in the 52 unit development by the Manhattan loft corporation. It covers the top three floors of the west tower of this famous London landmark.

The master bedroom, which is located on the top floor, is now reached through a new staircase that turns around an oak clad storage room reached off the main entrance hall. TG – Studio enlarged the floor area on this level and separated the space into a walk in wardrobe, finished in oak and sheep leather and personalised to Arran’s needs. The master bedroom space is open plan but can be closed to the triple height living room by an electrical operated curtain."

Warm Modern Vertical Home In San Francisco

San Francisco is known for its beautiful streets where local townhouses look like they are squeezed between each other. SB Architects continued this requirement and tradition when designing Bernal Heights home in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city.

Requirement to build vertical created nice opportunity to build unique modern home which will offer warm atmosphere and lovely city views. All three floors are designed in order to take maximum out of small plot.

"he goal for this project was to seize the unique zoning opportunity to build a new home on this desirable, but never-developed, corner site in a dense San Francisco neighborhood. The design concept was driven by the micro-features of the site and the desire to create a contemporary design expression that was rooted in Northern California architectural and sustainable ideals. The basic envelope was shaped in large part by the neighborhood planning code, which dictated elements such as bay windows, notched side yards and inset entries to create movement and shadow along the streetscape. While the design is rooted in the local vernacular and code within this traditional San Francisco neighborhood, the interpretation is distinctly clean and modern."

After a long, hard day the first thing that one usually does after coming home is going to the room in his house where he can relax - bathroom. While some of us enjoy taking a long bubble bath, others prefer taking a quick shower.

Whether you take a bath or a shower, the bathroom should be the place in your home where you can leave all the stress and worries. Today we bring you 17 different and modern bathroom designs from all over the world. Enjoy!

This bathroom will definitely draw your attention. The first thing you'll probably notice is the rounded-shaped shower-cabin and unusual patterns on it which are giving the impression of glamour in the room.

If you're not a fan of oddly patterns in baths, and you prefer to be surrounded by greenery, the this will be a heaven for you. A hot steam bath and a lot of plants, will relax you - for sure!

Most people would say that this is an ordinary bathroom, nothing special. It's simple, and you can never be wrong with a combination of brown, black and white. If you add two more plants and unique design on wall, voila - you have not so ordinary bathroom, but it is still simple and modern one.

What I like the most about this one are the lights and the blue color of pillows. It works just great with this shade of brown. It's good thing that a bath tub is kind of separated from the rest of the bath - this is great if you like privacy, even in your own bathroom.

This bathroom is definitely different from the rest of them! Although it's kind of small and dark, it still has its elegance and glamour, and the little sofa by the window gives it special touch.

Another one with darker theme where walls are designed to match with floors. Huge mirror visually makes whole room bigger which is always nice addition.

This type of design actually reminds a little bit of Victorian style, probably because of the candles and the little wooden chair by the fireplace. But despite the wood and rocks, this bathroom still manages to look like a modern one, doesn't it?

Bling! This one is shiny, for everyone who loves marble. Reflections everywhere. Again, nice atmosphere is created with darker, brown colors and modern white bathtub as a focal point.

Mirrors on the ceiling! Now, that is nice move which with purple lighting creates really luxury atmosphere.

There it is - a typical girly bathroom! Whether you are a little girl, a 16-year-old teen girl or a lady in her twenties - I bet you can't deny it, you probably like this bathroom. Lovely pink curtains and a soft carpet did the trick.

Stone walls created nice cave-like space where shower cabin is just separated room in the bathroom.

Contemporary style is something everyone dreams about. Big windows and lots of daylight is big plus here.

Nice white bathroom with double sink for her and him. Monotony is broken with dark brown furniture.

Another one from contemporary album. What I like the most here are those white rocks placed through the bathroom. Love it.

This bathroom is perfect for house with glass walls. Minimal yet warm feeling is what this places gives.

Modern Home With Sharp Lines Lifts Up The Colombian Neighborhood

This interesting modern home is designed by Giovanni Moreno for Girardot in Colombia. Dramatic shape combined with minimalism turned out to be nice sight for this Colombian neighborhood.

Casa GM1 is two story, 652 square meters home built on the 800 square meters plot. Sharp lines and edges along with large architectural plates are main features which defined this modern residence. Large massive roof is placed above the glass walls which makes it look like it floats.

Interiors are kept in the same tone as exterior, pure white and minimal. Contrast is given with darker modern furniture which breaks the monotony. There's also blue swimming pool as a focal point of the entire project.

This heavenly white dream home is designed by monovolume architecture + design for Meran, Italy. It's one of those homes which will attract your attention and make you fall in love on first sight.

Primary goal was to blend the whole project nicely in the surrounding green hilly nature. While the house itself is white and makes strong contrast to green hills in the background, architects took this transition to minimum with large terrace and swimming pool along with small trees and other vegetation.

Interiors of this dream home are kept in the same tone as the exterior, clean, white and minimal while being fulfilled with darker furniture. Overall atmosphere? Heavenly and dreamy indeed.

Cape Town is reacher for another brilliant modern home. Famous SAOTA designed De Wet 34 residence in cooperation with the masters of interior design, OKHA.

You probably already guessed how sweet this home is. It's built in hilly part of Cape Town which offers already known romantic views of the ocean. Two story modern home is wide open towards the ocean and central backyard which creates nice atmosphere with full privacy.

Big terrace and cliff-edge swimming pool just make everything better while contemporary interiors collect every bit of sweet South African sunshine.

Here's something new on World of Architecture. There's so many projects going up across the globe every day, millions of people working, drawing, thinking, building. Every architectural project has its own story, from drawing board to becoming reality. That's why we started new topic called Architecture Facts.

We'll try to feed you with interesting facts and stories about some of the most famous buildings and projects built on our planet. Hope you will enjoy. If you like it, don't forget to share and pin facts you like or find interesting.

So, architecture fact #1: Did you know that construction of Burj Khalifa, current world's tallest building, took more than 110,000 tons of concrete 55,000 tons of steel rebar and incredible 22 million man hours?

Architecture fact #2: You heard of famous Falling Water House right? Of course you did. Author of this masterpiece, Frank Lloyd Wright once suggested that concrete surfaces of the house should be coated in golden leaf. Imagine that.

Architecture fact #3: Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. We all watched those documentaries showing workers hanging everywhere to put this bridge together. Well, during construction of the bridge, safety net saved 19 men of falling down into the sea after which those men became known as the "half-way-to-hell club". Scary, right?

Architecture fact #4: World's narrowest house, built in Warsaw, Poland is only 92 cm (3.02ft) wide at its narrowest part and 152 cm (4.99ft) at its widest. It is also known as Keret House named after its resident.

Architecture fact #5: Mighty Empire State Building. When designed, large Art Deco spire was imagined to be mooring mast for zeppelins and other airships to dock at. That would be nice sight today.

Huge Modern Home In Hollywood Style By Nico van der Meulen Architects

Although this beautiful modern modern home is built in South Africa, the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw it is Hollywood. It really reminds me on those super luxury modern mansions built on the hills of Los Angeles. Take a look why.

Nico van der Meulen Architects designed House Cal with the request to be a fairly large house with a separate accommodation for the client's 3 adult kids.

"To accommodate that and thanks to its location in a private estate, the house was designed to be open to the street with a glass link across a koi-pond as the entrance which separates the guest wing and son’s suite from the rest of the house.

The crescent profile of the stands determined the shape of the house towards the street and house was kept as far south on the stand as possible, as this was somewhat shallow towards the north. To get enough light into the house the architects designed double volume windows, deeply shaded to only allow winter sun into the living areas.

The guest wing, where the son’s bedroom is situated, consists of a gym, guest suite, double garage, a lounge/study and a suite. The two other kids were able to have their own north-facing suites and accompanying lounges. For each room, Nico van der Meulen Architects planned balconies on both the north and the south side."

Attention ladies! In this post we are going to talk about the Notebook, Ryan Gosling and this famous house from the movie! Great. Now that we have your attention here's what we have for you.

We all know how popular movie The Notebook is among the female part of the world's population. If you are guy and reading this, just ask your girlfriend or sister. To be honest, I haven't seen it so I won't talk much about the movie. What I want to show you is this famous beautiful house from the movie, which is dream house to many little girls, tennagers and adult women. Probably because they all want it to come with Ryan Gosling. But! What if I say this house actually can be yours. But without Ryan of course (or unfortunately).

The Bennett-Hayne House is for sale. Its location is 113 Ashley Avenue in Charleston, South Carolina. It has 5 bedrooms, 3 full baths, one half bath and three floors. It was built back in 1800 but left abandoned before folks from the Notebook found it and decided it's perfect for rebuilding. The house was originally built by the mayor of Charleston and governor of South Carolina, Thomas Bennett Jr.

When planning their home, people want to reach perfection, do the best they can, build a dream home and often this idea can carry them in complete opposite direction. Here's one example how simplicity and minimalism sometimes can be more than enough for a beautiful house.

Shakin Stevens House is designed by Matt Gibson Architecture + Design and built in Melbourne, Australia. Small two story house has everything for a contemporary lifestyle. As per client's request, interiors are mostly bright, white with highlighted green color in the kitchen and living room.

"‘Shakin Stevens’ is not only about a coloured front door but the experience of what’s beyond it. Conceptually beyond this green door, there are no doors; the newer space is about flow and continuity where delineation of space is soft and less infinite than expected from the street. In a clear formal idea the rear composes 3 extruded white cubes that look essentially like they have been let go, landing like dice randomly on top of each other next to a Victorian ‘monopoly’ house.

The 3 cubes, as with the existing villa, are composed so as to be immediately deciphered internally or externally and in clear programmatic zones all house different functions. The cubes which are opened at their ends (or sides where required) are utilised as devices to orchestrate views to green elements within the structure and to greenery within or beyond the site."

Impressive Modern Villa F Overlooking The Greek Archipelago

Hornung and Jacobi Architecture office designed this impressive modern Villa F for Rhodes, Greece. It is modern holiday home imagined as something that is rarely seen.

Villa F is designed for a couple who wants to house some guests from time to time. Main entrance is located in the garage located inside of the stone wall which follows the road. Floor above the garage is open area with large swimming pool, living room and dining room offering breathtaking views of the sea. Bedroom with the glass wall and balcony is located on the third floor above the swimming pool, while the area above living room is left open.

"The site of the holiday home in Rhodes, Greece yet possess characteristics and outstanding qualities, which we only attempted to frame with our design. The site is located three meters above a coastal road, which is bordered by a natural stonewall that has been equally continued for our proposal. On the one hand the continuation of the found wall generates a high level of privacy, while on the other hand it relates to the given situation, which we were tempted to preserve as much as possible."

Future Architecture Taken To Extremes

What kind of projects you create in your head while thinking on the future architecture? I'm sure we could get incredible stuff if printing pictures out of our heads would be possible. Here's one example how we see architecture in our near future.

This amazing project is proposal by Mauro Turin Architects and it takes modern architecture to another level. It's wine museum proposed for Lavaux region in Switzerland, known as a beautiful land with terraced wineyards.

This modern museum is imagined as a single story object literally sticking out of the rock above the road, nicely blended into the landscape. It is good example of how future architecture will move the borders and sometimes it will be taken to extremes. And we approve that. Do you?

Dream House In The Wild - House Tsi by Nico van der Meulen Architects

This is what happens when owner of huge site (10,000 sqm/~2,5 acres) hires talented architects to build him beautiful dream house in the wild. Nico van der Meulen Architects designed amazing House Tsi in Mooikloof, near city of Pretoria in South Africa.

As we heard from the architects, owner requested visually extraordinary house with one very important feature, indoor swimming pool. "The relaxed attitude of the client and the large site (10 000m²/~2.5 acres) provided the architects with a golden opportunity to explore the home three-dimensionally with advanced 3D computer software, and fuse the programmatic requirements into the 3D model. The outcome was a design where form meets function. Enhancing the structure are the incorporation of sun-orientation, circulation, open-plan living areas, view orientation and privacy."

An amazing dream house in the wild, perfectly fits into South African landscape. It's simply perfect for people who love to experience the nature, far away from concrete jungles but still keep this feeling of contemporary architecture around them.

Is This The Best Dream Home Ever?

I would say yes. It is the best dream home I've seen so far. But it get's even better. It's located on Ibiza island in Spain. What else? It's for sale! How much? Almost $23 400 000. Whoa! Yeah, that's €18 000 000.

A lot of money for single family home. But have in mind it has 22 bedrooms and 24 full bathrooms. Don't know how big exactly that family has to be. Anyway, it's a dream home, built right on the cliffs above the ocean, surrounded by the beautiful green Mediterranean vegetation, palms, cricket sounds and waves smashing in the cliffs.

The house has 4 floors with open floor plan, which really allows you to enjoy this whole Mediterranean atmosphere. There's huge swimming pool with breathtaking views of other islands and the ocean, tennis court and an amazing old light house.

When I sent this dream home to my friend, he said "naah, I can't tie my yacht to it...". I replied "if you could ever afford this you would probably have helicopter on your yacht, so there won't be any problem." But looks like there is place for boats down there, connected to house with hundred of concrete stairs placed down the cliff.
