"U.S. President Barack Obama: "As I’ve said from the start, there’s no quick fix to the worst recession we've experienced since the Great Depression."

Yes, there is. Decriminalize tax evasion..."

We already have a "pay as you go" law on the books (two of them I think). That is what Sen. Bunting wanted to use before he would vote for the previous round of benefits. We need to actually enforce it (find actual money in current spending and not the "less increase in the future spending equals found money for current spending" excuse to skirt the law.

Along with the median income idea, politicians would be on the same retirement plan as most people - put money away on your own initiative.

I like your idea, seems like it would work.

Another (more narrow) idea: Make national politicians work for the median income of the area they represent. That'd save us a lot of money, and maybe make the politicians a tad more realistic about life in general. That said, most of them have gobs of money to begin with, but at least it'd be a step in the right direction, and save us a little money.

I also think a "pay as you go" amendment wouldn't be a bad idea, if it was executed properly. More than that, each spending measure approved by congress should include some sort of forward progress, i.e. make the government more efficient/less spendy, until the debt is gone. For instance, if a bill is going to cost $500 million, it should be paid for at the rate of $600 million, with the excess going to reduce debt.

@Keba Here's my guess as to the most likely suspects:

1 - No Obama Memorial built in DC yet
2 - Rich people still have a little bit of money that hasn't been taxed
3 - Our grandkids still have a little bit of potential earnings that haven't been spent
4 - Obama STILL hasn't paid my mortgage
5 - Ditto for the pony I was supposed to get
6 - Sarah Palin's not yet having been filleted in public and her uterus sent to the four corners of the nation as a warning
7 - Israel still exists
8 - No cure yet for sputtering incoherently while flailing one's arms about and dancing on one foot, or as Joe Biden calls it, "Mellow Tuesdays"
9 - Opposition protesters still running around petitioning the Government for a redress of grievances like they have a freakin' Constitutional right to do so or something
10 - Some Americans still haven't been called racist, bigoted idiots yet by the government

I've seen some of this dude's stuff. Not bad. Very intensive, political truths, straight laced, survival principles included. This is the kind of cartoon that should be pinned on the Oval Office, bulletin board just to remind, our leaders that there is some shamefullness to awful leadership even though, some don't seem to give a crap about those kinds of principles anymore.

The "informed" in "informed risk" is the word that may be the defining factor - many (most?) people do not inform themselves enough to even get to the risk part.
