These punk rock homophobes douchebags think that they can just come into our studio and make a bunch of jokes and drink our beer and be funny and fun to hang out with. Well, fuck them! We’re gonna record them playing acoustic punk for the first time and make it sound really really shitty! Oh, wait … was that my outside voice? I mean… they are… really… cool guys and … their music is… stellarly mediocre. Truly, stellarly…

Seriously though, Chris Hart, Foo Phlegm, Logan Bongiovanni and Bobby Laws are all righteous motherfuckers. They lay down some of their dirtiest, crassest most foulmouthed songs on the acoustic trip. This episode is more NSFW than most. I’m not kidding. I dare you to play the first two songs in your office lobby. It’ll be hiLARious!

In other news, the guys are all super busy keeping up with all the summer festivals, like the great (Un)Discovered 2012 show happening in 2 days!!!! AT the Dogwater Studios!!!!! Where you can come by and meet most of us in our natural setting – along with a bunch of the best new acts in Reno this year!!! Oh, and Rory is playing guitar for half an hour… or so we think. It should be interesting….

Also coming up soon is the Reno Block Party 2012 at the end of June. Mallory Mishler

After a long and exhausting conversation about Marianarchy 2012 Mallory Mishler joins us in studio to play some songs and talk about her upcoming exhibit at the Reno Art Works. She is a triple threat – one of the top realism artists in town, a skilled musician and a fucking awesome lyricist! Great – next thing you know she’s gonna have a podcast or something. Her show, “Stubborn Works – Something From the Deep ‘It’s a Black Thing’”, will open sometime in the first week of June and the closing reception is going to be on Sunday June 28th.

We also have a great phone call from Reno based comedian, Lizzie Keith. She was the host of the Reno Tahoe Comedy Semifinals last week and is a pretty active performer and aerobics instuctor. We think she’s hot. She says she’s a hot lesbian, but we’ll have to get her in studio sometime to verify… if y’all don’t mind. Really though, she was funny right out the gate. I think we have maybe made a new friend – a contender for the coveted third chair of Chewie?

Also in studio with us were the artistic and musical talents of Aric Shapiro and Pan from Reno Art Works and Weapons of Mass Creation. We’ll have WMC on the show a little later in the summer, but today they were here to talk about RAW. It is a great artists’ space on Dickerson Row, the unofficial home of Reno’s visual art community. RAW however embraces all artists, from performers and writers to more traditional definitions like painters and sculptors. RAW hosts a weekly community art night – fun for the family and you might just pick up a new skill or simply learn a trick or two. All kinds of art are open for exploration! Lots of fun.

That’s right! After months and months of teasing it out – IT’S REALLY HERE!!! MARIANARCHY 2012!!!!!!! Friday May 18 and Saturday May 19!!!

It’s one hell of a line up this year, with the reunions of Phat Couch and Gunshot Licker on Friday and Saturday nights, respectively. There’s a raffle and silent auction, Happy-Hour Potluck, BBQ. Admission is whatever you can donate to the cause. This year, the proceeds will go to benefit the familes of Rev. Gary Setzer and Jess Blaze (who are secretly pissed that they’re missing this show, or so I’m told). The events will be emceed by yours truly, Reverend Rory. Come see me turn into Jerry Lewis over a 48 hour period!!!

Seriously, though – this is probably my favorite event in Reno every year. You should really check it out. Marianarchy is at the cultural heart of Reno and Ground Zero for a lot of the love and camraderie in the Reno music and sart scenes. It is really something special and you should check it out.

Dave supports free speech and press!

Also on the show this week is Reno City Councilman and Sparks-core native, Dave Aiazzi. Dave is a really good friend of Nick’s and a big supporter of our simmering arts scene here in Reno. He also knows how to take a joke (Thanks in advance for not getting a cease and desist on the picture, Dave). Irma Geddon jumps into the fray with some insightful questions about how people can get things done with the city, what happened to the Occupy Moana thing, and what is up with that airline food? For his part, Dave does not particularly care for the airline chicken plate. I think Dave had something he wanted to talk about, but we all kept badgering him with questions and cutting to the music. It was probably important.

Todd Ballowe joins us this week on the show! Todd is one hell of a musician. He doesn’t just play his guitar, he manhandles it! Slapping it and choking it enough to make a small symphony come out. But Todd loves his guitar. He always comes back to stroke it and he didn’t really mean it, baby. Todd is also a powerhouse of activity on the Reno show circuit. Coming up here, you can catch him on 5/15 at Tuesday’s Taste of Reno at Java Jungle, or on 5/18 at Swill.

We are also joined by the VERY lovely Elsie Marie. She joins us in the third chair while Chewie is gone. I can tell you that I already MUCH prefer looking at her for 90 minutes than Chewie. Reno has suffered a huge loss this week. Jessica “Blaze” Smith passed away on Tuesday in her sleep. Jess was a good friend to everyone one the show and a guest a couple of times last year – most notably a member of the cast in the Memorial Day Meltdown and And This is Why You Shouldn’t Drink on the Radio. She was a local promoter and true believer. She also gave great hugs. Jess Blaze was a do-er, always backing up her talk with a tight game. She was a founding member of Guerrilla Productions and a driving force behind the Reno Block Party. She was always down for fun. Jess Blaze was an integral and dynamic part of the Reno music scene and entertainment industry. She will be missed, but it’s now our job to carry what she taught us into the future. Let’s make this a kick ass summer. Go out and see a show. We love you, Jess.

There will be a wake for her at Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor this Saturday, 5/12.

Friends are the best!

What happens when you and a band have a last-minute scheduling conflict? You call your dumb friends and beg them to come on your show. Luckily, we had Mr. Matt Waage in our corner. We had a great time with Matty in the Dogwater Studios… but I’m not sure he knew he was being recorded. He kept playing his guitar while we were talking, going off on random tangents and making weird noises with his mouth. Normal Matt, I suppose. What was great though, for anyone who’s had the pleasure of catching Matt over the years, was LISTENING TO MATT SING WITHOUT ALL THE FUCKING DELAY ON HIS VOICE! Matt has a pretty and powerful voice and range. Go figure. I figured all the processing was to hide something awful. No. He’s shy. Pussy.

In other news, Nick cleans up real good! Check out the picture above – doesn’t he look all… 22 or something? He and Candyshoppe spent all weekend in the studio. You can check out the videos here along with behind the scenes WLP videos. The album is completed, minus mastering and packaging and making them, so look forward to that at the end of the summer. Although, wouldn’t it be funny if Candyshoppe released their first CD (Glitterbox) before Big Remote (Jenkins)? Ah, I make me laugh.

Also – I have to give a shout out to Matt Weigand, winner of the first semifinal round of the Reno Tahoe Comedy contest. It was a pretty good night and he killed it! If you want to see good local comedy, check out the next semifinals on June 18 at the Pioneer Underground.

If I can just make it to tomorrow, I’m doing better than I was today.

The younger generation of Reno rockers are bringing it! Nick and Rory first caught The Letdowns at the Winter Music Series at the Alley a few months ago. The Letdowns are a punk rock trio that are tight as hell! Zack Ryan brings it on guitar and vocals, Timmy Lund backs him up on bass and vocals and rounding out the trio is Cody McKinley hitting the skins, but is not allowed to sing.  Whether they are winning a high school battle of the bands or killing it on a podcast, they will kick you in the face with simply awesome tunes and lyrics. They do not have many frills – they don’t need em, cause they be talented. We got them to play 4 or 5 songs this week, on the acoustic and djimbe. And I will warn you – the 17 year old Cody has a mouth like a sailor on him!

We also get a call from local comedian Matt Wiegand, winner of the final heat of the Reno Tahoe Comedy  Contest! He was just getting out of a spanish test, so he didn’t bring all of his funny, but he does tease a bit for us. You can catch him and some of the other winners at the first semi-final round THIS FRIDAY at 9pm at the Pioneer Underground located on S. Virginia. It’s a really great venue and a really great Comedy Club. Chekkit out!

Git up wit cha get down!

It’s time for some rock and/or roll, valued listeners! We had a great frakking time with Mary Jane Rocket this week! Clark, Kathleen, Ryan, Scott and Scott threw down some acoustic songs for us – unlike anything you’ll see at a show, mind you. They are rude and funny as fuck and know their way around country, punk and blues. It’s a lot like hanging out with those cousins that are a blast, but you don’t want to see every day.

You can catch Mary Jane Rocket very soon – next week in fact! Friday April 27th they will be at The Studio on Fourth with Los Pistoleros and some other band (listen to the show). Saturday the 28th they will be at Davidson’s Distillery with Los Pistoleros and some other band (listen to the show). Speaking of weekends and MJR, – this weekend is 4/20. Don’t be stupid, kids. Have fun, but don’t be stupid.

We have missed ou almost as much as you’ve missed us. However, it is short lived- Dogwater Dick is a momma’s boy and will be out of town this next monday again. It’s always something or another with that fag, makin us miss shows this spring. He promises this is the last week anything will happen like that, but time will tell…

Ben and D. D was meditating on My Little Ponies.

This week we have the Radioactive Rock of Nuke Vegas. However, for all you NV fans out there, these Northern Nevada boys treated us to their first (and maybe only) acoustic set. These ex-metalheads threw down with some unplugged style music – or at least as close as they and we get. Nuke Vegas is James Kelly (vox), Ben Renken (git), D (bass), Jesse Rollins (drums) and Charles Untereiner (git) and they pretty much rip. You don’t want to miss them in action on May 25th at Davidson’s Distillery. We had a great time with them (like I’m gonna say they were a bunch of redneck assholes…, really I’m a pro!) in the studio, despite the tech difficulties that delayed the start of the show by almost 2 hours….

In other news, Reverend Rory (me) will be a guest judge at Reno Tahoe Comedy’s first month long competition. Come out for a great time with some of the best comedians the Reno Tahoe area has to offer. It’s going to be at the Pioneer Underground  every Friday during the month of April. That means the first one is this Friday 4/6 – 9:30 pm sharp! Be there, have some laughs, meet me and support local comedy!

Happy Spring!!!!!

Local underground media mogul Oliver Ex joins us in the studio today. If you don’t know who Oliver is, you should. He is an on-air personality, event producer and his big current project is as the managing editor of Reno Tahoe Tonight. RTT is a 3 year old independent magazine devoted to the “other side” of Reno. (You may remember that they covered WLP back in Oct 2011 – just more proof that they will write about anything.) Oliver was a lot of fun to talk to and jumped right into the shallow end of the gene pool with us. He is a sincere and driven dreamer who has fallen in love with the arts community of this town, and rightly so!

Chewie is back this week and busts out some tunes from the vault. We have three tracks from some pedigreed and storied Reno bands that we think you’ll enjoy. Second hand Jive, Dump Your Boyfriends and Werm are all risen from the dead on this episode. Good stuff.
