Development is a state of mind : Having said that, it does not mean that , if we keep thinking that we are developed, we become developed.

It means, development has to the reach the mind, its the state of mind of an individual that shows how much developed one is, and in aggregation of the states of mind of all individuals, how much developed a country is.., it’s the state itself or the level of state in which the mind can think and intercept that defines the level of development.

Even if we are able to build the best roads and the best infrastructure, the moment a rickshaw puller runs slow on his wheel just after a red signal turns to green, a loud continuous and highly vexatious horn keeps on vibrating. I do not see any betterment due developing good roads.

Same is the case with other traffic ethics like, crossing the road when you can see a car coming towards you at 100 kmph, people in the car shouting in a not much different attitude and so on.

Even the example of movies can be taken. Instead of bringing audience to the level of watching products of good filmmaking, the film industry mostly ends up making ‘what people see’ !! We cannot start from the end saying people watch anything. It is the development that a director can deliver to a movie which can impact the state of mind. As RGV has said, it might take another 250 years to make and understand a movie like Inception in India !!

The preparations for commonwealth games is yet another. Unless people around, and people who are displaced can feel and identify themselves with the games, it cannot be termed as a success after few months when it starts. In one way or the other, the preparations should change the state of affairs of the delhites (at least), their sanitation facilities etc , which then would imprint permanently in the very minds of the generations that a good sporting even is indeed a nice thing to do.

Else, the future generations only will feel a sporting event like Olympics as burden and yet another way of differential treatment of the haves and the have-nots.

Development is a state of mind : Those are the words of the world renowned economist Amartya Sen expressing his opinion on development of a country. True to its widest interpretation, this seems to be valid in almost all cases of our daily lives.

A report last month in the Economist tells us that “blogging is dying” as more and more bloggers abandon the form for its cousins: the tweet, the Facebook Wall, the Digg.

Do a search-and-replace on “blog” and you could rewrite the coverage as evidence of the death of television, novels, short stories, poetry, live theater, musicals, or any of the hundreds of the other media that went from breathless ascendancy to merely another tile in the mosaic.

Of course, none of those media is dead, and neither is blogging. Instead, what’s happened is that they’ve been succeeded by new forms that share some of their characteristics and these new forms have peeled away all the stories that suit them best.

When all we had was the stage, every performance was a play. When we got films, a great lot of these stories moved to the screen, where they’d always belonged (they’d been squeezed on to a stage because there was no alternative). When TV came along, those stories that were better suited to the small screen were peeled away from the cinema and relocated to the telly. When YouTube came along, it liberated all those stories that wanted to be 3 to 8 minutes long, not a 22-minute sitcom or a 48-minute drama. And so on.

What’s left behind at each turn isn’t less, but more: the stories we tell on the stage today are there not because they must be, but because they’re better suited to the stage than they are to any other platform we know about. This is wonderful for all concerned — the audience numbers might be smaller, but the form is much, much better.

When blogging was the easiest, most prominent way to produce short, informal, thinking-aloud pieces for the net, we all blogged. Now that we have Twitter, social media platforms and all the other tools that continue to emerge, many of us are finding that the material we used to save for our blogs has a better home somewhere else. And some of us are discovering that we weren’t bloggers after all, but blogging was good enough until something more suited to us came along.

I still blog four to five times a week, just as I’ve done for three years now. But I also tweet and retweet many times a day. Almost all of that material is stuff that wouldn’t be a good fit for the blog — material I just wouldn’t have published at all before Twitter came along. But a few of those tweets might have been stretched into a blogpost in years gone by, and now they can live as a short thought.

For me, the great attraction of all this is that preparing material for public consumption forces me to clarify it in my own mind. I don’t really know it until I write it. Thus the more media I have at my disposal, the more ways there are for me to work out my own ideas.

Science fiction writer Bruce Sterling says: “The future composts the past.” There’s even a law to describe this, Riepl’s Law which says new types of media never replace the existing modes of media and their usage patterns. “Instead, a convergence takes place in their field, leading to a different way and field of use for these older forms.” That was coined in 1913 by Wolfgang Riepl. It’s as true now as it was then. — © Guardian Newspapers Limited, 2010

The Indian Cabinet on Thursday approved the new symbol for the Indian rupee – an amalgam of the Devnagiri ‘Ra’ and the Roman capital ‘R’ without the stem.

The symbol, designed by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) postgraduate D. Udaya Kumar, was selected from among five shortlisted symbols before the Cabinet, Information and Broadcasting minister Ambika Soni said after the cabinet meeting. “It is just a symbol,” she told reporters.

For Indians used to seeing the dollar symbol on the keyboard, this will be a welcome change. It will be just a matter of a few months for India’s new rupee symbol to be a part of the software code to be easily accessible to users across the world, according to technology vendors.

For all those who are not satisfied with just a routine, the best things might not not be sufficient. The tryst for excellence persists.
When and how these two can meet ? Do we have excellence at its best ? Is it what an endless youthful search is looking for ?

A soothing melody song from Mani, some routine work to worry upon for few hours, packed timings with a class to listen to, still getting few minutes once in a while to take a ‘lecture’, some tough phone calls to concentrate upon, a drilling session of tennis, passion to write a hand written letter and after all these, still getting time read newspaper or books and finally to blog !
A list that looks something like above is what I take as something nearing to excellence getting better. I might not be correct, but I am not wrong either.

For all those who are satisfied with their routine, take some time out of your schedules and see if that really is what you are looking for. If the answer is yes, you are perfectly correct.
If the answer is no or if there is even a 1 % of doubt, you are not satisfied, and hence there are options that you must weight…

I have few options to throw, which might fit in our routines which are lot different, complex and does not allow many things to try or routines which are almost inflexible to tweak.

Apart from stereotyped MBA and GRE stuff, why not look for some social sciences ? For a change, why not look for Masters in Arts !! They are really exciting and experiencing at the same time.
IGNOU offers online courses for BA, MA and other degrees that can full fit in tough routines perfectly. Subjects like Anthropology (Study of Man !), Sociology, Psychology, Public Administration etc.

Traveling is fun. More, traveling can instill ideas, opens up the thinking brain to follow the roads that moves fast behind you, be it a luxurious first class train compartment or a bumpy ‘red bus’ ride.

Every image that passes by, is an interpretation of thyself, the mind trying to correlate and attach itself with the varying diversities. Ideas flow. They flow fluently ! We are not short of ideas, lest we let the mind to trigger. The creative edge to ‘make’ ideas and find a ‘new’ thing is almost always possible.

You’re unique, just like everyone else.

So, if we start from the base that , everyone can and do have enough ideas and perspectives as to how to interpret stuff around how to build their careers, how to lead life qualitatively and more importantly how to be happy, then why are not all are able to reach what they see ?

Is it the capability and potential of an individual that is to be questioned? I don’t think so, and anyways, our ego comes in before accepting our incapacity !
So, if everyone has ideas and are capable enough to put them into effect, why is still a vacuum seen and a gap created. There is definitely a mismatch between the quantity of ideas that we can generate and the actual number that work (or put to work).

Being an aspirant of IAS, I keep on hearing lots and lots and lots of ‘suggestions’ by many young and dynamic students to ‘reform’ the country. Most of them fail to clear the exam. I am not questioning their strength of preparation but the basic question :
Those who can think in a national perspective and give hell lot of ideas are not able to ‘think’ and ‘plan’ their own preparation to make sure their efforts are converted into result / accomplishment.

This is what I see as the gap between Preparation Vs Performance, Ideas Vs Implementation, Adhoc study of various topics Vs Planning your study… and so on. This is not to be seen as a specific case of IAS aspirants but a generic mismatch that can be found across all sections of the people.

We are failing to plan. We are failing to implement. We are failing to live.
“Big things happen when you do the little things right ! ”

A little bit of planning and careful adjustment of time brings ‘value’ to your knowledge and thus transforming it to wisdom.
Know yourself and adjust accordingly. The schedule that one follows might not (and will not) suit to any other. It has to be tailor made. You have to have your own model. Pull your individuality not in burning ego but in building bricks.
Proper implementation of ideas into practice brings perfection and stands as an illustration for future accomplishments.
Plan your time, schedule your ideas, build your life, one second at a time, minute by minute.

Personally, (I already did a lot of preaching above), I do follow this and hence am confident to share the ideas. Without planning my time, I would never find a time to write a blog ! I did had a long gap since my last post, but the beauty of planning has once again proved me that I can always get back to what I love by amending the plan.

But to amend a plan, you will have to have one first !!
