We were a little late to get credited with a World First, but the guild last night executed our first defeat of Arthas Menethil, better known throughout Azeroth as the Lich King. It is definitely a challenging encounter albeit not as challenging as it once was. But a good time was had by all participants: Ailpein, Gwynhefar, Matoaka, Mayrial, Melvyl, Naco, Qyandri, Roszdhu, Sazbot, and Staychyld.

Onyxia on Display

Visitors to Stormwind last night were treated to a site of the head of the Black Dragon Onyxia displayed at the gates. It certainly wasn’t the first time, but this time was unique for us because our guild was responsible.

Congratulations on Level 20

I just thought I would take a moment and congratulate everyone of reaching the milestone of Level 20. It has taken a while, but it means we are most of the way through the leveling process. Just 5 levels left.

And a few other bits of news…

Raiding – We have been doing a bit informally on Sundays Nights of late. Largely BC and Wrath Raids, but when we get enough people geared, we are going to make the leap to returning to Cataclysm content. Which brings me to…

Instances – We are putting together a regular schedule of nights set aside to do instancing. It won’t be limited to just maximum level, but it should be a good chance for everyone to run Heroics in a lower-pressure environment.

Social – We had a party planned last month to celebrate the Third Anniversary of the Guild. Unfortunately, it had to be postponed but hopefully it should get rescheduled soon.

If you haven’t logged in lately, feel free to come back. If you haven’t joined us yet, we want you to feel welcome.

Dr Joanne O’Mara in Saurfang

The next talk in the #rugame series features Dr.Joanne O’Mara, Senior Lecturer, School of Education, Deakin University talking about research she has been involved in about learning from computer games.

The talk takes 10 February 9.00am (AEST) Note: for North American participants this talk will take place 9 February 2.00pm Pacific time.

The talks are held in the Ironforge Library, Saurfang realm of World of Warcraft. The talks last for about 30 minutes, with time for questions and discussion at the end. You can look at transcripts of earlier talks.

The talks take place using guild chat. You need an Alliance toon (have a look at the slideshow for some hints), and you can join the guild Where is the library, just prior to the talk. rugame for 2011

rugame is back in 2011 with a series of exciting talks about libraries, education and games.

The year starts with your stories. How are you using games at your library? This will be a quick information sharing session. Then we move into a reading discussion, inspired by the new worgan toons and the summer reading theme in Australia which is Scare up a good book #suagb. You don’t have to be in Australia to benefit from this discussion. Just read a scary book and come along ready to discuss it.

This is a great opportunity to bring ideas along and have people help you develop them further. You might even find someone to collaborate with on your ideas.

Your toon will need to join the guild as well – so whisper Franticread (who will be online an hour before the scheduled start of the discussion).

The talks will tale place 9.00am Australian Eastern Daylight Time. Note: for North American participants this talk will take place 12 January in the afternoon or evening – 2.00pm Pacific time

The talks are held in the Ironforge Library, Saurfang realm of World of Warcraft.
