The past year has been a good one for Portugal. The Man. They released their fourth album, The Satanic Satanist and played some big festivals like Bonnaroo and Outside Lands. The band toured like crazy last year and continued to build up a great fanbase in the process.

Now they are ready to take on anything after starting off their 2010 tour with sellout shows, including two nights here in Austin. Their brand new album, American Ghetto sees the band continuing to hone their craft as they prepare to make this year an even bigger success than last. Enjoy this session with Portugal. <itunes:summary>A year after the release of their Sub Pop debut Tight Knit, we caught up with Vetiver right as they were completing a tour with The Clientele.

Led by Andy Cabic, the band is in fine form in this performance which begins with two tracks that were featured only on a limited edition 7" single released for Record Store Day last Spring.

In the interview, Shiv talks to Cabic about partnering up with Sub Pop, the intricacies of hitting the road when he lives in San Francisco and the rest of the band is around Brooklyn, and his production work on the upcoming album from folk legend Vashti Bunyan.

<itunes:summary>When it became clear to John Davis in early 2008 that Georgie James was probably not going to last, he immersed himself in writing new material. He wasn't sure if it would become a solo album or if things would possibly turn around and become a second Georgie James release.

By Summer 2008, the band officially called it quits and John had an entire album's worth of material ready to go. He recorded solo, but eventually assembled a backing band that has become Title Tracks.

While on tour with Boston's Pretty & Nice, John and the guys stopped in to play a set that includes some tunes from the debut album It Was Easy and even includes an unreleased track called "It's Wrong."

A cover of "Remember The Lightning" by 20/20 is not included for download, but is available for streaming.

<itunes:subtitle>Recorded live in the WOXY Lounge in Feb 2010. Mixed by Brian Niesz.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>YellowFever is comprised of Austin natives Jennifer Moore & Adam Jones. They've been fixtures on the local scene for the last few years, sometimes with a third member but currently content as a duo. Jennifer's voice recalls Stereolab's Laetitia Sadier and their brand of art pop has been singularly unique among Austin bands. They've been fairly DIY, with only an EP and a few hard-to-find single releases to this point. Fortunately, the Vivian Girls made a self-titled compilation of all of the band's recordings the first release on their new Wild World imprint in late 2009.

For our Lounge Act though, they chose to feature all new, yet to be released material. It's possible that some or all of the songs will be included on a new record, their proper full-length debut, that the two hope to release sometime in 2010. </itunes:summary>

After the album was completed, Wingo found himself back living in Austin and the album was released last fall on Western Vinyl.

In December, Wingo debuted a new live lineup for Ola Podrida here in Austin with a live show at the Mohawk. With this performance, that lineup remains mostly in tact, but with a new drummer playing for the first time with the band outside of the practice space.

<itunes:summary>If quiet is the new loud, then The Antlers are a scream. Taking the concept album to new places, their album Hospice is so real, so raw, so incredibly personal that we haven't heard such a painful record since Bob Dylan's Blood On The Tracks.

The band pulled into Swing House Studios in Hollywood the night before their date with Editors at The Wiltern and gave the private Lounge Acts audience of about 30 a set of music that made the hair on our collective arms stand on end.

The trio is an act that builds slowly, bubbling, lurking under the surface before rising above to absolutely slam you with sheer, brute force, proving you don't have to wail to get your point across, and that cries of sadness and pain can sometimes make you deaf. We've included three songs from the set of six from this intimate event for your listening pleasure, enjoy!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Add Wild America to the list of Austin up-and-comers handpicked by Matador Records' Gerard Cosloy to appear on Casual Victim Pile: Austin 2010, the label boss' lovingly curated compilation of some of his favorite local acts.

They formed from the remnants of The Teeners, another Casual Victim Pile band, and have been playing together for a relatively short time. Their brand of garage punk recalls recent Matador signees Harlem, another local outfit brought to the label by Cosloy.

Aside from their appearance on the comp, Wild America only has a demo to their name, although plans for a 7" single release is imminent. With five freshly minted tunes recorded live in the Lounge, it's a fair bet you'll be hearing from them again soon.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Love Collector are a four piece punk band from Austin, Texas. Chances are, most people outside of Austin had not heard of them until recently when Matador Records co-founder Gerard Cosloy put together the Casual Victim Pile compilation. The album is a collection of 19 artists that Gerard really feels captures the vibe of the current Austin music scene and gave him an opportunity to highlight some of his favorites.

<itunes:summary>Follow That Bird! began as an instrumental duo when Lauren Green and Tiffanie Lanmon were still in high school. The band evolved into a trio, vocals were added, and the current lineup took shape when Mitchell Tellstrom took over bass duties last year.

They've quickly become one of our favorite bands in Austin and their 10" EP on Monofonus Press last fall earned a fair amount of airplay here at the station.

Now, they've got the lead track on Matador's Casual Victim Pile: Austin 2010 compilation and are at least looking in the direction of a full-length album.

In this performance you'll hear a few brand new tracks, a tune from their debut EP, one from the Monofonus Press 10", and their recently released song, as featured on the Casual Victim Pile release, called "The Ghosts That Wake You."

<itunes:summary>Will Johnson is probably best known for his role as frontman of the band Centro-Matic, who have been putting out quality albums since the mid 1990's. In the past year or so though, Will has had his hands full with several other really interesting projects. Among them was a role as a touring member of Monsters Of Folk, where Will played drums and travelled across the world with the super group.

Will also stayed busy working on solo recordings and putting together a great record with fellow musician and friend Jason Molina. The Molina and Johnson album was put together over a couple weeks by the two prolific artists and sees them collaborating and creating some incredible songs. In this solo set with Will, we are treated to two songs from that record, one unreleased tune from an upcoming solo album and another new song that was originally written by Woody Guthrie that will be a part of an upcoming project Will is involved in along with Jay Farrar, Anders Parker and Jim James.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In the fall of 2009, another buzz band was emerging from the very fertile New York scene, although not from the Brooklyn area for once. Freelance Whales claimed a different borough as home in Queens, and brought with them a melodic and layered pop sound that had us charmed immediately. One of the ways the band became well known in New York was due to the fact that they had a regular location and time slot to perform their music in the Subway tunnels. Then in the fall they were one of the more talked about new bands at CMJ and stopped by our studios in December to lay down this excellent session.

They treated us to 4 songs off of their debut album Weathervanes, which the band self released in the fall of 2009 and will be re-releasing in the spring of 2010 with help from Frenchkiss Records. They also unveiled a brand new track that we are happy to bring you in this session as well. Enjoy the set and get ready to hear alot about Freelance Whales in 2010!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Brothers Jared & Mike Bell have been playing music together since they were young. As Lymbyc Systym, they've spent the last several years making music together from a distance. Jared had relocated to New York and Mike had spent some time here in Austin, meaning the creative process of making music involved crafting demos and e-mailing recordings back and forth to each other. The guys are both now living in the same city for the first time in years which should make the next recording an easier process.

In the meantime, we caught up with the brothers Bell when they were out on a brief spate of West Coast dates that wrapped up in Texas. Joined by Christopher Tignor on violin, they play a few tracks from their new album Shutter Release, a track from their debut Love Your Abuser, and close with a song from last year's Field Studies EP, a split release with their friends This Will Destroy You.

<itunes:summary>By the time we walked into the Swinghouse Studios in Hollywood for the Future Sounds WOXY Lounge Acts session with San Diego's Tape Deck Mountain, the band was already plugged in and experimenting with sounds that mix Explosions In The Sky dynamics with dorm room bong hits perfectly. The band eased into "Ghost Colony" which oozed like the third set of Phish at Madison Square Garden.

If you are unfamiliar with Tape Deck Mountain, you won't be for long. Touched by Pitchfork's Forkcast as someone to keep an eye on, their full length, "Ghost", dropped on Tuesday on Lefse Records, the label making a name for itself quickly with the likes of Neon Indian. The trio flows easily into "In The Dirt", another track that takes a collection of sounds and ideas and vibrates outward into something epic.

Closing out the session is "Scantrons", a track that's made its way around the internets with numerous remixes, but the straight track proves that nothing beats the original. Three songs in the band seemed to just start to rev their engines, providing the perfect warm up rehearsal for the evening's Rumble: Los Angeles performance.

<itunes:summary>We were big supporters of The Muggabears and had them in for a Lounge Act session in early 2008. Since that time, founding members Travis Johnson and Emily Ambruso have recruited Jim Sykes as their new drummer and fully transformed the project into Grooms.

They teamed up with their friends at Death By Audio to release their first proper album called Rejoicer.

We caught the band while they were finishing up with a month-long tour across the country. They've given us three cuts from their debut record here in this performance and even premiere a new track that will likely be on their next full-length album.

<itunes:summary>Fanfarlo may only now be hitting your radar in 2009, but this London-based orchestral-pop outfit is no one's overnight discovery. A veteran of two SXSW's, the band was playing their first-ever show in Austin outside of the festival and stopped in for a visit on the morning afterward. We gave their debut full-length, Reservoir, enough airplay to land it on our 97 Best list at year's end, and the band performed four beautifully stripped down songs from it during the session.

<itunes:summary>UK trio Band Of Skulls formed while in college and worked for about a year and a half to craft their debut record Baby Darling Doll Face Honey.

Since its release earlier this year, the album has quietly sold almost 20,000 copies in the U.S. alone and the band has completed three North American tours.

Our Lounge Act session was recorded right as the band were finishing up a tour with Metric. After a sold-out Austin show, Russell, Matt and Emma woke up early to come record this stripped down set for us.

All four tracks in this performance can be found in their studio versions on Baby Darling Doll Face Honey, available now from Shangri-La.

<itunes:summary>It's official, The Drums have captured the West Coast sound, funny thing is, and they're from across the Atlantic. The moment they entered Swinghouse Studios it was apparent we were in for a sun-drenched set evoking images of palm trees, sandy beaches and the Pacific.

We've been big fans of Jonathan Pierce and co for some time, and in July featured "Me & The Moon" off their Summertime! EP in the Hot 5 on Future Sounds Radio. Sounding like the love child of Dick Dale and Joy Division, The Drums' bright and dance infused set combined the best of 50's Southern California rock minus the perma tan. With tracks like "Let's Go Surfing" and "Submarine" it's no wonder The Drums seemed right at home on this side of the coast. With the ability to craft a whistling hook rivaling that of Peter, Bjorn & John it's more than obvious that The Drums are posed to grace us with their infused sound for years to come.

The Drums are set to take Europe by storm in early 2010, headlining the Shockwaves NME Awards tour with The Big Pink and Bombay Bicycle Club.

<itunes:summary>Just when you thought that good ol' straight ahead rock 'n' roll may have gone out of style, along comes Electric Tickle Machine to dismiss any such notion. The band's comprised of four New Yorkers, who stopped by the Lounge during their first ever tour through Texas. Their self-released debut, Blew It Again, is a no frills, melodic, garage pop-rock record recorded in just 14 days by Matt Boynton, who has worked with Bat For Lashes, Gang Gang Dance, and Joseph Arthur.

In addition to good reviews for the album, ETM have also been earning notices for their energetic live show, which wasn't quelled by performing in our Lounge. They offered up over half of Blew It Again in session and describe, in rather vivid detail, a shocking experience following a gig in Idaho during their conversation with Mike.
