The Latest Dispute in Jerusalem is over a medieval cellar under the Holy Sepulchre:

This is a good example of what happens when people really don’t want to get along or resolve their differences. This stupid cellar could be shared. For 800 years it’s been of no use to anyone. But no. Instead these people have decided to do the equivalent of dogs pissing on their territory. Useless. Exacerbates conflict. Destructive.

If all anyone tries do in an argument is be right, no one will ever win.

The Holy Sepulchre is supposed to be, you know, holy. All it really seems to ever cause is bitterness, fighting and resentment. Very holy. Consider this: “Since then they have posted guards at strategic points in the church, 24 hours a day. The status quo is so sensitive that it is impossible even to replace a rotted wooden door for fear of violating agreements.”

The whole place is going to fall apart because no one can manage to get along. Glad they value it that much.

If you want to post pictures to the Internet that contain other people - whether on Facebook, Twitter, your blog or elsewhere - you should read this.

I’m admittedly a person who really hates having pictures of herself posted anywhere without her consent. It makes me feel like I’m not in control of my own online identity. I think I’m more of an extreme case of this, and I have indeed asked people to remove pictures of me from Facebook and other places. I know there are pictures of me right now places, and it bothers me, and I wish people would remove them.

In the professional sphere you often must get permission to use images of people, and there is a reason for that. Whatever our own preferences are, when dealing with the likenesses of others I think it’s good to remember we should be respectful of their preferences in addition to our own.
