Hello all.
Just noticed a couple of possible discrepancies in the Australian WCW title histories listings.

I noticed that Ernie Ladd has snuck into the list of Austro-Asian title holders. I don't actually think this was the case, he may have possibly held the BK title instead.
Also, in the tournament final for the Austro-Asian tag titles in 1972, it says that Golden and McCord defeated Brute Bernard and Bobby Hart in 1972. Not true. It was actually Bernard and Gary Hart.
Statistics: Posted by Mr Wonderful — 2022/08/21 Sun 8:30 pm — Replies 0 — Views 411

Hello, I just had a few questions on some more WWE Championship lineages and recognitions.

The first one is on Bob Backlund being the WWWF/WWF (World) Heavyweight Champion. I was interested to know if anyone knows why WWE does not recognize the title change in Japan when Backlund lost the title to Antonio Inoki then won the title back before leaving Japan. WWE does not recognize Inoki’s reign at all. I have heard a rumor it was because Vince Sr. did not approve the title change and Vince Jr. also did not like Inoki. But still not sure about all of the actually reasons. If those were some of the reasons or not. Could it also be because it was in a different company and in a different country at the time? Just courteous what the reasons were if anyone really knows. Backlund also had his title held up against Greg Valentine, but got it back and WWE does recognize this either. WWE recognizes Backlund as having one long title reign from when he defeated Billy Graham in 1978 until he lost it to the Iron Sheik in 1983. They don’t count anything that happened in between with Inoki and Valentine. They consider him as being a one time champion during that era and having a almost six year reign as champion.

The other thing is on Ric Flair. He is considered to be a 16 time World Champion. But he is actually from the title histories a 21 or 22 World Champion. Why is it his other reigns are not recognized? And what reigns is it that they actually recognize if anyone really knows?

The final one is on the WCW/WWF/WWE Cruiserweight Championship. I had noticed that for some reason WWE considers the very old and short lived WCW Light Heavyweight Championship to be the same championship as the WCW/WWF/WWE Cruiserweight Championship. They have it as listed as being one and the same. It’s on the same list. It first list the history of the WCW Light Heavyweight title Holders, then list the WCW Cruiserweight title holders then they list the WWF/WWE Cruiserweight title holders. From what I remember WCW never considered the Light Heavyweight title and the Cruiserweight title as being the same. They were considered to be two different championships and not the same by WCW. So I wonder why WWE thinks they are the same. And WWE brings back the Cruiserweight title a few years ago, but they don’t consider it to be the same Cruiserweight title as the other one that was from the WCW/WWF/WWE. They have a separate lineage and recognize it as a new and separate championship. Does anyone know the reasons for this as well? Thank you for your time.
Statistics: Posted by Patrick — 2020/10/05 Mon 1:38 am — Replies 1 — Views 2053

Not sure if you saw these I posted previously, but found some updates for the NWA Title Matches, for various years in Texas, as well as an update for a NWA Title match in Eugene, OR.

10/9/79 Tyler, TX vs Kevin Von Erich
4/20/82 Tyler, TX vs Kevin Von Erich
3/15/84 Laredo, TX vs Kerry Von Erich
7/24/84 Laredo, TX vs Kerry Von Erich

1/11/80 Eugene, OR vs Buddy Rose (won the tournament the prior week to face Harley). However google news archives doesn't have the paper for that card, so unclear what the result was.

Now for the Northwest Tag Team Title updates. I started in 1973 and went up to 1979. I thought at first I would just be filling in the city information, but as I was going through them, I noticed that some of the dates were incorrect as well.

Not sure of the best way to do this, I guess I'll go down the list of what you have, and put my changes in parenthesis..Thankfully, Portland, Eugene, Salem, and Seattle have their papers online, and most of the title changes took place in those cities.

Bull Ramos and Clay Spencer 6/1/73 --- (This is most likely 5/29/73 West Albany, OR, where the Tag Title Match took place between the 2 teams.)
Al Madril and Jose Gonzales 7/2/73 --- (This is 6/21/73 in Salem, OR. Also, Jose Gonazales was going by Manny Cruz in the writeups I saw online.)
Bull Ramos and Ripper Collins 8/11/73 --- (Portland, OR)
Dutch Savage and Jimmy Snuka [2] 3/22/74 --- (This is probably 4/5/74 in Eugene, OR where Savage and Snuka were challengers and won the match)
Royal Kangaroos [4] 2/27/75 --- (This is most likely 1/31/75 in Eugene, OR, as they were already champs on 2/27/75)
Dutch Savage and Jimmy Snuka [3] 12/25/75 --- (Seattle, WA)
Jesse Ventura and Bull Ramos 4/10/76 --- (Portland, OR)
Royal Kangaroos [5] 6/5/76 --- (Portland, OR)
Jesse Ventura and Bull Ramos [2] 6/8/76 --- (Portland, OR)
Dutch Savage and Jimmy Snuka [4] 8/3/76 --- (Portland, OR)
Jesse Ventura and Buddy Rose 10/25/76 --- (Actually 10/23/76 Portland, OR)
Dutch Savage and Jimmy Snuka [5] 11/5/76 --- (Actually 10/30/76 Portland, OR)
Jesse Ventura and Buddy Rose 1/15/77 --- (Portland, OR)
Ron Bass and John Anson 8/7/77 --- (Most likely 8/3/77 Seattle, WA, according to the Salem, OR paper. The Seattle paper has the tag title match, but no result)
Buddy Rose and Ed Wiskowski 12/7/77 --- (Actually 11/26/77 Portland, OR, I'm guessing Moondog Mayne filled in for John Anson, or Mayne had left the area?)
Jesse Ventura and Jerry Oates 3/21/78 --- (Portland, OR, they did defeat Rose and Wiskowski)
Bull Ramos and Iron Sheik 4/18/78 --- (Portland, OR)
Dutch Savage and Jimmy Snuka [6] 6/10/78 --- (Portland, OR)
Buddy Rose and Ed Wiskowski [2] 9/9/78 --- (Portland, OR)
Roddy Piper and Killer Brooks 12/31/78 --- (Tacoma, WA -- I can't confirm this, but in a result I received many years ago, has this a the city of the title change)
Adrian Adonis and Ron Starr 4/3/79 --- (Portland, OR)
Dutch Savage and Stan Stasiak 9/22/79 --- (Portland, OR)
Kiwi Sheepherders [2] 9/29/79 --- (Portland, OR)
Statistics: Posted by cman73 — 2020/05/29 Fri 10:59 am — Replies 2 — Views 2372

According to the Eugene, OR paper, on 11/9/79, The Sheepherders defeated Dutch Savage and Stan Stasiak for the titles.

I'm also trying to research the 9/12/80 listing. The crew was in Eugene, OR that evening, and it's a nearly 5 hour drive from Eugene to Grandview. I'm curious if it was on another date.

When I get some extra time, I'll try to get you the cities for all the other title changes that are missing. Was researching cards for the Florida Championship Wrestling promotion in 1988, and may have a couple of updates for you in 1988.

For the Florida Title, The Terminator defeated US Steel on 11/30/88 in Tampa, FL.

For the Florida Tag Team Titles, The Nasty Boys defeated Johnny Ace and Terminator on 11/9/88 in Tampa, FL. The writeup is kinda weird, as the original ad has Ace and Terminator defending the belts on that day, but then the results have The Nasty Boys retaining the titles.. Subsequent writeups have the Nasty Boys as the Florida Tag Champs. I'm not sure if the 1/5/89 Nassau listing is correct, as the Nasty Boys defended the title on 1/1/89 in Tampa.
Statistics: Posted by cman73 — 2020/04/14 Tue 9:57 am — Replies 0 — Views 1625

Was researching the Las Vegas paper on the geneaologybank website, and I didn't realize Shire's promotion ran there for a time. Tito Anami was the promotor on most of the write ups I came across

Anyhow, there's a card on 1/6/78 with the main event being Dean Ho vs Bob Roop for the United States Title. Tthe results have Dean Ho defeating Roop for the title. This is probably only a local title change, and not recognized by the San Francisco office, I found it interesting none the less, since Roop was gone a few days later. The 1/18/78 card also lists Dean Ho as the new champion defending against Les Thornton.
Statistics: Posted by cman73 — 2020/03/06 Fri 12:37 pm — Replies 0 — Views 3134

Hello, I have noticed some things that WWE and some other promotions (but mainly WWE) do as far as how they recognize history for their championships. When reading certain things it seems like when they have had a title like the big gold belt they have recognized or mentioned that they have considered it to be the same title from WCW and even NWA,but then when they used it, it had its own history or lineage separate from WCW and even the NWA. Yet, for the United States title that they have that was also from NWA/WCW, they consider it to have the same history and lineage. The lineage is not separated for the U.S. title like it is for the history of the big gold belt. And for the ECW World title when WWE used that several years ago, they recognized their title reigns as the same as the original ECW, but they did not recognize the history of the championship as part of the lineage when the Championship was first known as Eastern Championship Wrestling. And another thing that is strange about how WWE considers things is that on their title history listed on their web site they recognize the entire history of the ECW World Television Title even from the Eastern Championship Wresting days, but do not recognize the entire history of the ECW World Heavyweight title. For the ECW World Heavyweight Title they start from Shane Douglas when they first became Extreme Championship Wrestling from until Ezekiel Jackson who held the title in WWE.And here they own the rights to both WCW and ECW. So they can claim the lineage if they wanted to as being one in the same. What do you think or may know about this? Is it possibly to have come from the same history, but can still have a separate lineage?
Statistics: Posted by Patrick — 2020/02/16 Sun 6:38 pm — Replies 1 — Views 4719

Tried to do this yesterday, but had to take care of some stuff, and go logged out, and didn't save my post, LOL.

Anyways, maybe I can condense it.

--Southeastern Tag Team Titles--
On 5/12/78 Robert Fuller and Jimmy Golden defeated Dennis Condrey and Bob Roop for the titles. According to the Knoxville Sentinal, Roop was the Mystery Partner for Condrey.

--Southeastern Title--
This gets messy. All dates are from Knoxville, TN

According to the results, on 5/12/78 Ron Fuller defeated the Mongolian Stomper, so the title couldn't have changed there, as Ron Garvin was in a match with Don Carson.

On 5/19/78 Ron Garvin defeats The Stomper by DQ, still no title change.

On 5/26/78, Ron Garvin defeats both The Stomper and Don Carson, in what the advertisement bills as a Southeastern Title Match. Though, the results don't specifically say he won the title.

On 6/2/78, there is a Southeastern Title pole match between the Stomper and Garvin, with the title being on top of the pole. Whomever gets the belt is the champion. Well, according to the results, the match was a No Contest, as the belt fell off the pole. The ad didn't say who was the champion.

On 6/9/78, the advertisement lists Ron Garvin as the champion, and he goes on to defeat The Stomper via DQ that night.

On 6/16/78 Garvin won the match against the Stomper, but due to the "shenanigans" surrounding the outcome, the title was declared vacant the next day on TV.

6/23/78 Stomper wins the title defeating Ron Slinker.

Fast forward to August. The newspaper shows Robert Fuller defeating the Stomper on 8/11/78 for the Title.

The next week, 8/18, The Stomper defeats Fuiler, but the result I have is by DQ. The paper however, doesn't list a DQ victory, but also doesn't say if the Stomper won the title. I think they would have, since they reported the Tag Title win that night.

I found some new results for 9/1/78. It was a 2 night tournament (started 8/31) for a mink coat, and also a shot for the World Title.

On 9/1/78 Boris Malenko defeated Robert Fuller. It doesn't say if it was for the title, but the next week, on 9/8, Boris Malenko goes into the match as the champion against Ronnie Garvin.

Without all the TV results and notes, kinda hard to say where Fuller may have won or lost the title, but it seems like most of the title changes are in Knoxville.

See, I told you it was messy.
Statistics: Posted by cman73 — 2020/01/29 Wed 5:38 pm — Replies 1 — Views 3112

I wrote this on facebook but also decided to archive it here just in case.

After previously being discharged, Steve Casey was brought back to the U.S. Army in 1942/01 and was stationed in Porthmouth, NH (The Porthmouth Herald, 1942/01/30). He continued to wrestle and regained the AWA world heavyweight title from French Angel in May but was sidelined as a wrestler in the summer due to a back injury he suffered "in a tumbling exhibition several weeks ago" (The Boston Globe, 1942/09/03). Casey received medical discharge in late 1943 ("about a month ago", The Porthmouth Herald, 1943/12/08). Contrary to what has been believed for long time, Casey might have never left the country as he made guest appearances for various events including wrestling cards as a referee and USO shows during this time.

Regardless, a tournament was held to crown the war-time "duration" champion, and the Golden Terror defeated Leo Numa in the final on 1943/11/09 in Boston, MA.

Sandor Szabo defeated the Golden Terror on 1944/03/29 in Boston, MA for the duration title and unmasks him as Leon Mahabolsky.

After leaving the Army, Steve Casey headed to Northern California and started defending his title from 1944/01 until 1945/03. He then returned to New England and defeated the duration champion Sandor Szabo in the consolidation match on 1945/04/04 in Boston, MA.
Statistics: Posted by Hisaharu Tanabe — 2020/01/02 Thu 12:03 pm — Replies 0 — Views 2914

Newspapers.com has a paper from Guam, and according to the report in the 10/17/78 Pacific Daily News, Don Muraco defeated John Studd for the Pacific International Title on 10/15/78 in Mangilao, Guam (George Washington High School was the location, and google maps shows the town as Mangilao.) It was a 2 out of 3 falls match.

Muraco had won a "Texas Battle Royal" the previous night (Same location) to earn the title shot.
Statistics: Posted by cman73 — 2019/11/19 Tue 6:18 pm — Replies 0 — Views 3636
