Stepping closer, he gloved her hand in his and imprisoned it flat over his left pectoral. His heart beat fast against her palm, the signs of his longing. A thrill shot through her, splaying off into several directions to her stomach and all points south. God, she loved him. Didn’t know how anyone loved a person so wholly, without utterly losing her identity. Their twelve-year separation had never hindered her love for Alex, yet it had given her an identity she might not have otherwise developed if she’d stayed behind. Despite the drastic steps her father took to bury her in a paranormal institute in New York, the experience had ultimately given her a life and hope for the future in a family of psychics who’d never learned to control their skills.

Alex’s eyes reached inside her and touched a spot only he had touched before. Her body responded with an unexpected burn. He dipped down and his mouth captured hers. Juliana cinched her arms around his neck and he drew her so close, they barely trapped a molecule between them. The place she wanted to stay forever, to make up for the desolate lost time they’d both experienced.

Burning with need, she broke off the kiss before someone busted them. She fingered her lips to hold in his faint taste of coffee and hazelnut creamer, and then forced her hands to her sides to prevent them from slipping beneath his shirt.

“Damn, Juliana.” He plucked the crotch of his pants. “When I take you home, I may not make it to the office today.”

“When was the last time you took a sick day?” She rested the back of her hand on his forehead.

“Never.”

Her eyes widened. “I’d say you’re due. You’re hot.”

“That’s what all the girls say.”

She play-whacked his arm. “I meant feverish.”

Laughing, he seized her hand and they hightailed it down the hill. As soon as they viewed the road below, he squeezed her hand and they separated, acting the consummate professionals to the public at large. Professional of what, is anyone’s guess.

By the time they reached Juliana’s house, her desire had cooled. The visions played out in her head. Little made sense. Maybe it was a normal every day dream, not a prescient vision. It wasn’t entirely unusual, but the next few days would be telling as her subconscious viewed her way through the case, scraping together more details each time she experienced a telepathic vision until the police solved the case.

Alex snatched her bag from the cargo hold and met her on the porch. The moment she gripped the doorknob, another vision invaded her, laying waste to her every thought. She sagged against Alex and vaguely felt his arms catch her as oblivion sucked her into its dark depths.

A Character is Born

Usually when my muse kicks around book ideas, it’s due to a character plaguing my head, i.e. a psychic, an emotionally scarred boy, a telekinetic. A story forms around them in the most high level way. But as we all know, everyone has a history, emotions, flaws, and physical attributes that must be developed in order to birth that character into a multi-dimensional being readers will care about or sympathize with.

First Kiss Excerpt

A skittering awareness on her backside sent her pulses racing again. Ryan’s fingertips caressed her back, his hands angling toward her hips. Automatically, she curved tighter into his body. Security and warmth tinged with heart stopping desire cloaked her.

“Morgan,” he whispered against her hair. “It’s all right now. We’re safe.” He touched her almost reverently, disproving his earlier suspicion.

She had the wildest urge to touch every inch of his bare skin. Something she’d never done to any man, nor ever wanted to until Ryan appeared in her dreams. Heat suffused her face and she fought the inappropriate and poorly timed urge. Instead, burning with need, she lifted her head and touched her lips to his full, warm mouth experimentally, something she’d wished to do since the moment he became real. He responded, pressing his lips to hers, first softly, then demanding, forcing her lips apart. She rested her hands on his wide shoulders. He made a harsh sound in his throat and slanted his head, the tip of his tongue breaching her parted lips, his lips soft yet firm on hers. Quivers started at the base of her spine and raced along her nerves. She opened her mouth wider and his tongue darted in. Her tongue met his, caressed it, tasted the lingering pineapple he’d snacked on earlier. Ryan poured himself into the kiss as if starved, and her own hunger liquefied her entire being. His ice melted into the warm pool her body had become.

Desperate for air, she freed her mouth and drew a shaky breath. Ryan’s hand slipped down her arm, until his fingers brushed the side of her breast, not taking extra liberties. The heat of his fire magic burned through her muscles and bones. She smothered a moan, aching for him. Craving a love so long denied her.

He kissed the curve of her neck, worked tiny kisses up to her ear, leaving a path of fire where his lips devoured her flesh, his harsh breath fanning the flames. The roughness of his whiskered jaw rasped along her skin. He nibbled her bottom lip, ran his tongue over her lips, until she parted her mouth. Again, he accepted her invitation and speared his tongue inside. Hypnotized by his kiss, her lips tingled, her mind clouded. Their tongues danced in an everlasting waltz.

Excitement poured over his sweat glistened face. But doubt flashed behind his need and his massaging hands on her back froze. His eyes had gone wild, like a stormy midnight sky. Morgan wanted to rip off her tunic and rub her moistened skin against Ryan’s slick body, anything to keep the contact of skin on skin. Passion spiraled through her, melting her magic into molten drops. Finally, he tore his mouth off hers, and she fell into his wide, sharp eyes.

"Holy mother of the Gods." He sucked in a sharp breath.
