If you have Windows 7 or another older version of Windows, without virtual machine, and do not wish to override your present OS with Win8, you can dual boot. Please backup all your files first before starting.

When you download Win8, save to ISO. Create a new drive partition, then download Win8 from ISO to the new partition.

You can then have access to your Win7 and Win8 in dual boot fashion.

Microsoft Investigates

According to reports by ZDNet, Microsoft warns of a potential problem with its graphics engine which may allow hackers to compromise the security of a logged in user and run codes which would allow the attacker to install programs to view, change or delete user data. The users with administrative rights would be more vulnerable than users with minimal rights. To date, there have been no attacks that MS is aware of.

The hacks are initiated when a user opens a web page which looks legitimate but is not. It can also happen when an innocent looking but malicious word document or other attachment is opened by the user.

MS says that those using Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Vista and Windows Server 2008 with service pack 2 are affected. Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are not affected.

Microsoft has a list of commands which can help modify the access control list or ACL to aid the user in becoming less vulnerable to viral and hack attacks.

Universities and colleges
Banking and financial institutions
Hospitals

Of course, most of these businesses will not assist you unless you give them your SS number, but if you must, see if they will accept the last four digits only. When you do business online, you will find that most of the businesses asking for your SS number will encrypt all but the last four digits.

It is important that you install and update your anti-virus and security software often and check your credit reports and bank accounts to make sure there are no transactions on them that you did not make.

Beware of emails asking for your SS number. Legitimate businesses would not ask you by email.

Last, but not least, trust your instincts. That is, if something does not look or sound right, it probably is not.

Intel's Expansion

Intel, the world's largest manufacturer of microprocessors, is set to spend $8 billion to build a new factory in Oregon, which will add 8,000 temporary jobs while in construction, and 1,000 permanent jobs after construction. Changes in CA EDD

California's EDD will start to change benefit payments from paper checks to debit cards for state disability and unemployment benefit recipients. This change will implement in phases starting in November, 2010 for disability recipients and December, 2010 for unemployment recipients. This debit card process will be more convenient because there will be no waiting for checks in the mail or waiting in line at banks.

According to EDD, the debit card can be utilized the same as Visa debit cards at ATM's, retailers, bill paying and can be directly deposited to a bank account.
