Hi Curtis! While Governor, Joe Manchin was divisive and ill equipped to lead. He did not play well with others, especially the Legislator. I could give you multiple examples. My point was you can’t have that attitude and take it on the national level. That, and just because you’re popular in WV doesn’t mean you’ll be an international sensation.

Yes, he wasn’t bad on the economic level. But West Virginia is still near or at the bottom on every possible metric. While WV is in the tank, I’m not going to be handing out ribbons to anyone.

I wouldn’t call him a spend-thrift. He shot down so many quality tax cuts, it ain’t funny. Was he better than other Governors? Yep. But that’s not saying much, really.

BTW, a quick review of my articles would impress the fact that calling someone a moderate isn’t perceived as a compliment.

Wow, terrible piece. Mr. Manchin was elected to represent WV because during the economic meltdown that was aided by idiots in other states, Mr. Manchin not only kepts a balanced budget, but actually had a surplus. He is as close to the center as you can get, he just puts the “D” in front of his name because he is forced to pick. Failure to mention the fact that he is a great spend thrift (once in charge, that is) makes your entrie article moot. Just another way to try to slant people’s politcs by not objectively looking at the subject. By the way, I am registered Republican . . . just saying.

Happy Thanksgiving & Happy Lincoln’s Day

Friday, November 27, 2009 will be the fourth official Lincoln´s Day Holiday in West Virginia. Remembering President Abraham Lincoln on the day after Thanksgiving in West Virginia is appropriate for at least two reasons……

1.) President Abraham Lincoln has a significant place in the history of West Virginia because he was the President whose proclamation enabled us to become a separate state.

2.) President Lincoln also had a significant role in how we currently celebrate Thanksgiving with his 1863 Proclamation, “to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens”.

The Thanksgiving holiday has long been a time to celebrate how God has blessed our nation and our families. Lincoln´s Day is a time to remember President Lincoln and what he did for West Virginia and how he helped establish our American tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving on a Thursday in November.

It was an honor to co-sponsor Senate Bill 603, which created Lincoln’s Day in 2006, and I want to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving today and a happy Lincoln´s Day tomorrow.

So the sole qualification and deciding factor of electing someone to a public office is that they are a native of the state or district for the office in which they are running?

If the candidate who isn’t a native West Virginian better espouses your views and has a greater grasp of the issues than the native, you would still vote for the native West Virginian merely because he happened to be born within artificial geographic boundaries?

No wonder this state is a mess. The electorate is inept.

I’m 100% behind Mark Plants. I believe that, if you’re going to elect someone for a government position for your state, he should actually be FROM your state. And, really, who NEEDS higher taxation? The bloody Personal Property Tax is enough murder on the bank account.

I say there are too many criminals on the streets. we lose innocent citizens on a daily basis because these people are on the streets and not behind bars where they belong. go wrong once shame on you, go wrong twice shame on the system. I know I am tired of the panty waste judges and the slap on the wrist system that we have now a days. what ever happened to the days when the criminal was the one punished and not the innocent citizen?

Hi..from Arizona…
It makes me sad and sick that we teachers can’t even pay for gas to get to school to teach our children. What is wrong with this friggin country???????
We foreclosed….take one car to both (my husband and I ) to work, where I am dropped off at 4:00 in the morning.
I work in a portable with 30 students.
You know…I love these kids….apparently the good have to suffer.
