How do you measure the success of your website? Is it an increase in link popularity, search engine results pages (SERPS), hits per day, unique visitors, pages viewed, length of time on your site, conversions – or what? What keywords are visitors entering into search engines to find your site?

Are you actively managing your websites?

In order to manage anything, you need some benchmarks to measure against. Web analytics provide those benchmarks. Analytics are indicators that reflect the potential of your website. As Internet professionals, we all know that we can’t manage what we can’t measure, and that goes to say, you can’t monetize it either.

How would you know if your site is under-performing?

Is it as simple as tracking unique visitors or page views? Not really. There can be an endless number of other performance indicators that define and reflect the success, or lack thereof, of a particular campaign. Are you sending out direct mail? Doing email broadcasts? Advertising in print media? Running pay per click (PPC) ads? Are these tied to your website? If you’re a solutions provider, analytics analysis helps both you and your customers by defining opportunities.

Knowing how a visitor arrived at your website, when they arrived and what they did on your site is invaluable. Aligning that data should define the scope of future marketing campaigns.

What’s important to your organization?

This all starts with what’s important to you. Tie that in to your analytics metrics. Decide what key indicators best align with the objectives of your campaigns. Come up with a list of a few basic indicators that will reflect the most insight. One key indicator could be – how many visitors does it take to achieve your goal? If that goal is for visitors to purchase product directly from your website, conversion factors are important measurements. If your goal is to generate leads or brand awareness, would poor page design or navigation hurt? Landing pages are immensely important, especially those that draw the most traffic to your site via keywords or extended keyword phrases.

Tweaking your website

What typically happens when a visitor first lands on your website – first impressions? If you draw 100 unique visitors to your main landing page daily, but only 2 click through to your shopping cart, could tweaking your landing page improve your response rates, and ultimately the number of conversions?

Are some pages on your website not attracting visitors at all? If not, it’s probably time to update those pages. Likewise, if viewers are highly engaged in a specific content area of your website, would linking other parts of your site to that content help?

My recommendation

Start with keyword analysis. Enter the keyword or extended keyword phrases that attract the most visitors to your site. Take notice of the results pages, specifically your competitors’ sites. If their sites rank higher in SERPS than yours, what is different between the sites? Is it their content? Their navigation? Their meta tags? Displaying higher in search engine results pages dramatically improves website performance. Take that information and your analytics analysis – to shape and redefine your site for success.

RSS or Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary is the latest information management tool that is gradually earning popularity among web users and website owners. With RSS technology, it is possible to get the latest postings from your favorite websites. But clicking on the RSS or XML button in a homepage is not enough to give you the service you need. An RSS feed or code displayed in the pop-up screen if not on the main page is composed of symbols and words that would only make sense to advanced RSS users and computer programmers and software enthusiasts. Another software tool called an RSS aggregator or reader is needed.

An aggregator works by scanning the worldwide web with latest postings based on the RSS code (containing the website’s URL) provided or added by the user. When it finds a new posting, news, or update, it will publish the RSS feed on your home page containing the title of the posting, which also serves as a clickable link to the website source. This RSS feed may or may not contain the whole article, a summary, and photos, depending on what RSS aggregator you are using.

Aggregators come in two types: the downloadable program or desktop-type and the online or web-based type. The desktop aggregator usually charges a certain amount for its services; this would include regular updating in the form of upgrades or patches to the original version. This type of RSS reader allows more customization of RSS feeds as well as page format or design over its on-line counterparts. But of course, price can be a drawback.

On-line or web-based aggregators are free of charge. All you need to do is register an account with them then you can start enjoying their services. Depending on the “brand” of the aggregator, customization is more limited. Some even do not allow you to customize at all.

Product and service advertisers are realizing the potential of RSS aggregators in internet marketing. In fact, several submit RSS codes to several popular web-based aggregators to reach the growing technophile and internet-based market. My Yahoo has been instrumental in popularizing RSS technology to both users and website owners and advertisers.

At present, there are many aggregators to choose from and newer versions of the same aggregator are constantly developed by its programmers.

Below are some of these desktop and online aggregators:

Desktop Aggregators

1. AmphetaDesk

Advantages:

-free

-supports Linux, Mac, and Windows

-easy addition of RSS feeds

Disadvantages:

-not maximized use of screen display

-few options for customizing

2. FeedDemon

Advantages:

-user friendly

-free trial version

-contains prepared popular feeds

-allows filtering of RSS feeds

-configurable “watch list” to manage junk RSS feeds

-search channel feature that incorporates other RSS services e.g. Feedster

-allows feed storage for future use

-tabbed browsers for channel navigation

-built-in podcast receiver

Disadvantages:

-supports only Internet Explorer (embedded)

-paid software (`$29.95)

Online Aggregators

Advantages:

-all major browsers supported (e.g. Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer, Firefox)

-user-friendly especially for beginners

-free, web-based aggregator

-easy registration

-no advertisements

-contains its own directory of RSS feeds of thousands of websites

-personal email account for subscribing to newsletter emails (optional)

-allows privacy adjustments for personal blogs

-allows saved searches

-mobile version available

-10 languages supported

-Additional add-on tools for automated blogrolls and subscription buttons

2. NewsGator

Advantages:

-free (consumer-standard version)

-provides personalized news channel

-allows translation of RSS articles into email format

-synchronization of feeds in several devices possible

-browse and search feed capabilities save time on surfing

-allows keyword filtering

-blog headlines

-button-click automatic subscription to news feeds

Disadvantage:

-Outlook-based thus limited to Windows

3. My Yahoo

Advantages:

-Free web-based aggregator

-user-friendly

-customizable home page design

-button-click subscription to RSS feeds

-built-in directory and search tool for feeds

-wide variety of feeds e.g. news (science, technology, local), weather

-connects to all Yahoo features and services

Disadvantage

-banner advertisements

There are also lightweight RSS aggregator extensions which are actually plug-ins to existing internet browsers. An example of which is Sage aggregator.

Advantages:

-free of charge

-beginner-friendly

-reeds both RSS and Atom feeds

-allows feed discovery

-can be assimilated to Firefox bookmark (storage and live)

-allows OPML feed lists imports and exports

-customizable style sheets

-supports a wide range of locales e.g. Catalan, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Korean, Polish, Slovenian, etc.

-easy installation

Disadvantages:

-good for about 12 RSS feeds

-limited use to Mozilla-Firefox and Mozilla-Firefox supported browsers

RSS developers promise better features in future versions of their aggregators. Microsoft is planning to include a built-in aggregator in their next Windows version. These developments are definitely something to look forward to by all internet aficionados.

A backlink is an inbound link to a website or a web page or a blog from another website. Backlinking is one of the methods of getting visibility in the SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages). The basic idea of a backlink is to promote your own website or blog. When your website will have a backlink from another website, the visitors of that website will develop an interest in visiting your website or blog. There are several things that you need to keep in mind while creating backlinks. Always remember the following illustration in mind while creating backlinks.

“Suppose you own a website B and there is another website A where your website’s link is provided. So, the visitors of website A will be able to see your website’s URL and will (or may) visit your site. This is looked upon by Google and other Search Engines as a vote given by website A to website B (your site) and they will start indexing your website (website B) and the page ranking for your website or blog will increase.”

A Few Mistakes To Be Avoided:

Make sure that you are creating backlinks only with relevant websites. For example, if you have a website related to ladies garments and you create a backlink from a website for flooring carpets, this will be considered as link spamming by Google and other Search Engines.

If you are backlinking through blogs, remember to put some good comments. If you are putting spam comments, they will be moderated and your website’s or blog’s link will not show up for public display.

Remember to create backlinks with websites or blogs which have high rankings. This is because of the fact that high ranking websites or blogs will have more visitors than those which fall back on SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages).

Nofollow – A Word Of Caution – Don’t Ignore Them: Nofollow is an attribute, a technical term which can be used by websites or blogs. If the nofollow attribute is present, Google will not follow the link to your website or blog even if you place your URL in those sites or blogs. These nofollow backlinks will not contribute to page ranking of your website or blog. However, other Search Engines will simply ignore these nofollow attributes and they will count any link as link and will drive traffic to your website. Nofollow links are not really backlinks as far as Google is considered. If Google comes across a nofollow tag with your URL in other website, it will simply consider the link as weightless and will not follow the link.

However, no follow links are not really useless. Even if your link has a nofollow tag and is shown up on a website which has huge traffic, you may be able to get traffic because the visitors of those sites will (or may) follow the link and visit your website. This can happen from a social bookmarking site or even from a social networking site. There can be chances that traffic driven from those social bookmarking or networking sites will be more than the traffic driven to your site from direct Google search!

How To Create Backlinks?

There are several methods of creating backlinks. They can be utilized properly to get huge traffic to your website(s) or blog(s). Here are a few methods which can be used:

Blog Comments: Visit popular blogs on your selected niche (PLEASE AVOID BACKLINING FROM IRRELEVANT BLOGS) and place comments which are actually helpful for the readers. This means that the comments should not be spam. If they are spam, they will be moderated. There will be an option to place your website URL. Put your website or blog URL and hit submit. If the comment is approved by the moderator, you will get a backlink from the blog where you posted the comment.

Link Exchange: Exchange the link of your website or blog with other other websites or blogs in the same niche. Those websites or blogs can put nofollow attribute to your link but still they can drive traffic. If your blog is relevant and has good information, dofollow backlink will be provided so that Google will follow the link of your website and will index the same leading to higher page rankings.

Article Marketing: Write useful articles which provide value to the readers and remember that the articles your write need to be relevant to the content of your website or blog. Post the articles in different article submission directories. Create resource box where you will place your backlink and drive traffic to your website or blog. There are several popular article directories like Squidoo, Hubpages, Helium, Articlebase and more…

Any Software For Finding Relevant Blogs?

There are several software available which can find blogs relevant to your selected niche. They will scan the Web and will find out some relevant blogs where you and post comments and add your URL for backlinking. Many of these software are shareware (which means that you will have to pay for them to use them) and some are freeware. There is a general notion that freeware software will not work but this is not true. You can try out “Real Link Finder”. Although a freeware, it works pretty well and can be very helpful. The interface is simple and easy.

Backlinking – A Point Of View For Article Writers Or Content Writers

As a content writer or a freelance article writer, it is not necessary for you to create backlinks. This is the job of webmasters. Your job will be to write articles and submit them to the client you are working for and sometimes, you may be asked to submit the articles to article directories or blogs or even websites. However, you need to worry about creating backlinks. Your job ends with writing and submitting the articles

Podcasts are literally ways the ordinary average person can have their own broadcast media. What makes Podcasts different from other types of audio content is the users must use RSS protocol. However, it also allows you to produce and create your own self-published radio-type shows.

Several radio stations use Podcasts either as their entire format or as part of their format. These stations include KYOU Radio in San Francisco, 99.5 The Mountain in Denver, and KFI in Los Angeles. Of course, the Internet provides listings for where Podcasts can be found as well. At http://www.Podcasts.net, you’ll find a list that is based on any topic you’re interested in. This includes entertainment, politics, arts, science and nature, business, lifestyle and shopping, with many of the categories broken down into more specific categories.

If you don’t have an iPod, you may wonder why you would even want to find Podcasts. The term Podcasts doesn’t mean a person has to use an Apple iPod. Podcast, though, is a term merged from the words iPod and broadcast. Any digital audio player or computer with the proper software can be used to listen to or create Podcasts. But, users must have “Podcatching” software, also known as “aggregator” software, to be able to listen to Podcasts.

Those wanting to either listen to or make their own Podcasts will need something called iPodderx. This is nothing more than a newsreader that can interpret RSS 2.0 feeds. While the iPodderx allows for listening to Podcasts, it is also needed to help with the broadcast side as well. Other Podcasting products available, as shown on http://www.alesis.com, include the 10/2 2-channel portable audio interface. This is a 24-bit /96k USB product. The Photon X49 is a keyboard controller, as is the Fusion 6HD and 8HD. The MultiMix Mixers are used to mix sounds for the Podcasts. M1 Active 520 and 620 nearfield reference monitors are also available. However, be ready to spend some serious cash if you’re planning on doing any major Podcasts.

Directories have existed in some form or another for a long time. You probably have a telephone directory in your home, and for hundreds of years merchants have kept directories of products that they stock or can easily obtain for their customers. Web directories are the internet’s answer to this phenomenon, and they are essential for the online businessperson who wants to drive traffic to his site and make sales.

Some online business owners believe that search engines have made directories obsolete, but that is far from the truth. While search engines do, in fact, deliver more traffic to websites since more users utilize search engines than directories, directories can still positively impact the traffic flow to your website.

Directories are listings of websites that are divided into categories and subcategories. When internet users want to find out more information about a particular product, they simply go to a directory and conduct a search on the topic they want to know more about. Rather than displaying the results in a ranked format the way a search engine might, a directory will display the results according to category and subcategory.

So all you need to do as an online business owner is to submit your site to a directory. Here are four keys to finding success with directories.

1. Only use the best. Search engines regularly spider directories that are maintained well and that are of high quality. But be warned that search engines don’t treat all directories equally. The search engine algorithm is designed only to spend time with directories that are the best of the best. So the most important thing you can do is to find directories that are favored by search engine algorithms.

In your search for a high-quality directory, look for directories with recent cache dates, directories in which pages are indexed extensively, directories that only include well-developed and well-maintained sites, directories that have a lot of inbound links from other sites, and directories that are well-established

2. Remember the importance of third-party links. Search engines place a premium on third-party links, and directories are a great way to access such links. And you’re even better off if those third-party links are from highly-respected sites. This is another reason why directory submissions are so important for improving your search engine ranking. Even search engines recommend that you submit to directories.

3. Utilize niche directories. Another factor that search engines take into account when ranking your page is the relevance of sites that link to you. You can have hundreds of sites linking to your page, but they won’t make much difference in your search engine ranking if they aren’t related to the content of your own website.

A few relevant inbound links from highly-respected websites are far more valuable than hundreds of inbound links from sites that are completely unrelated. This is why niche directories can be so important. Traffic from niche directories is highly-targeted and relevant.

4. Detail each submission. You can maximize your traffic potential using directory submissions by making sure that each directory submission is unique and detailed. Search engines place high value on this and you can reap the benefits.

As you can see, it is imperative to make directory submissions an integral part of your overall internet marketing strategy. Directories are given value by search engines, and they can ensure that you are getting targeted traffic to your site. If you’re unclear about exactly how to include directories in your marketing strategy, consult with an internet marketing professional or SEO expert.

Email marketing is now a popular marketing medium by which online marketers reach visitors and customers alike very easily. It capitalizes on the cheapness and easy accessibility of the simple email, which is in fact similar to the emails that we send and receive everyday, although drafted with a slight difference in approach.

When you have the opportunity to market your product without incurring huge costs as for off-line marketing, it is heaven-sent that the email opens the door to various business opportunities and marketing capabilities. Email marketing gives the best chances to achieve success in your online business.

Tips for effective email marketing include the following list which is by no means exhaustive:

(1) A potential money-making machine

Email marketing simply makes use of the email system. What is needed of you is to dispatch mail-outs to your list of subscribers at appropriate time schedule. It is indeed a potential money-making machine as it reaches to subscribers instantly with your intelligently constructed messages. Subscribers who have come to know more about you will make more purchases from you. They will value your service through time once you have gained their trust and confidence.

(2) Build that precious relationship

Emails help marketers build the ever precious relationships with visitors and customers alike. A long lasting relationship is an asset to your online business. Once customers place their trust and confidence in you and your product, future product launches and promotions will be much more easier to handle. In fact, you will get more new customers from the recommendations of current ones via the viral marketing effect.

(3) Understand more about behavioral patterns of customers

The emails will enable you to understand more about the buying patterns and preferences of your customers. Every product strategy has to be modified once changes in buying trends are being observed. This is one of the more important tips for effective email marketing. You will have to catch the changing behavioral patterns as soon as they surface, and quickly make the necessary changes to your marketing strategies.

(4) Impact visitors with compelling headlines

Using the email, the attention of visitors must be alerted by means of compelling headlines. These headlines must create a powerful impact and must excite the visitors to continue reading the email. Their interest must be kept throughout the whole email message. What you have to offer must be all disclosed in your headline – giving visitors the valid reason to read on.

(5) Spice up with attractive freebies

Email marketing often works better when you offer freebies in your email messages. No visitors would reject such free offers. This process works well even when you are launching new products or just keeping customers informed prior to launches, with your links leading to your sales copy where they will read more.

(6) Appreciate and use the marvelous speed of the email

No other marketing medium beats the speed and cheapness of the email. There is no doubt about that. Emails help to inform customers about your latest products almost instantly. Transmission of communication is fast and effective. Even feedback and complaints can be received and rectified immediately. Surely, you will appreciate the power of the simple email.

(7) Restate your offer continually

Visitors may find reading your emails long and tedious. More often than not, most visitors would just scroll straight down to the bottom before clicking off. To avoid losing a precious potential buyer, always place your offer links in various locations of the email messages. This process will serve to remind visitors of your appealing offer on hand. Restating your offer in such a way is another tip for effective email marketing. It has been proven so in the market.

(8) Conduct diligent follow-up maintenance to your email system

In any business, follow-up is essential for the sake of good customer relationship. Email marketing is no different. Maintaining an efficient follow-up system for your email marketing campaign will ensure that all emails whether previous or current will be well taken care of. Your customers deserve the best attention in terms of prompt replies to their complaints, questions and comments.

In conclusion, email marketing is a powerful marketing tool commonly used by marketers. To succeed in it, you have to ensure it is given due attention, and that effective strategies are carefully planned and used to drive it.

The Google Adsense program pays out hundreds of millions of dollars to its publishers every single month, and there is a very wide and differing variety of all the webmasters and bloggers that currently make use of this contextual advertising system. Each of the publishers follows different rules and methods when it comes to using Adsense, and the members of each group all earn a different amount of money.

I have been a participant in the Adsense program for a few years now, and a significant chunk of my monthly income comes from this program. I have talked with dozens of different webmasters and publishers and seen thousands of different Adsense sites, and from my own experience I have found that there are really five different levels that Adsense publishers fall on. I will describe each of these levels, and if you yourself are an Adsense publisher then it may be fun to find out where you fall on the spectrum.

First Level of the Adsense Spectrum: Monetizers

The first group is what I call the ‘monetizers.’ These are the guys that really do not know too much about web design or search engine optimization, they would never imagine worrying about keywords or ad relevancy, and for them just finding that they can copy this super-fabulous amazingly cool javascript code to their website that will actually *earn them money* (!) is just the neatest gosh darn thing they have ever seen. There are a great deal of publishers that fall into this category, and rarely do they ever earn over $150 per month. These are usually the non-profit websites or the mom-and-pop type sites, and they will usually use their Adsense revenue to pay for their hosting costs.

Not to over-generalize, but older people that have trouble using Windows make up alot of this category. I find that some of these types of people remind me alot of my mother: very kindhearted with good intentions but they type at 10 WPM and they do not have a clue about computers. And they are happier than a kid on Christmas when they log into their Adsense account and see a whopping $0.23 for their daily earnings.

Second Level of the Adsense Spectrum: Wannabes

The second group is the ‘adsense wannabes.’ I actually feel a bit sorry for this group because they usually end of failing miserably at being an Adsense publisher (that is if they can ever get accepted into the program!) and they accomplish nothing except lowering their already low self-esteem. I can deeply empathize with this group of folks because this is actually where I started out. They approach the Adsense program with a type of ‘get rich quick’ mentality, sometimes due to the exaggerations of an ebook writer and sometimes because once they begin to learn about the Adsense program their brain has trouble accepting the fact that this is an actual business.

I mean come on, a business is where you work 60 hours per week to make somebody else rich, right? There is no way that you could build up a high 4-figure monthly income from this crazy Adsense thing, is there? Well I hope you know better, and this is the level of thought that these people are stuck at. These are the opportunity seekers, the people that will sign up for a new network marketing ‘business opportunity’ once per quarter and then whore themselves out to their family and friends because they have failed at everything else and are always jumping back and forth so that they never succeed at anything.

But I do not want to be overly critical, because like I said this is the level at which I started out. These are the people who have been convinced that this is the next big thing and that once they set up a single website they will make enough money to retire. Most of these types will fail to generate any real income and will move on to the next ‘big thing.’ But those who do start off at this level and stay at it long enough will move up to the third level.

Third Level of the Adsense Spectrum: Noobs

Statistically speaking, if you are reading this then there is a chance that you are an Adsense Noob (short for newbie). It is by far the largest category of Adsense publishers. This is not something to feel bad about, and in fact I consider it to be something to be proud of because you have demonstrated your devotion to learning this new business and actually making a decent residual income with it. If you were not devoted then you would still be at the penniless level of the wannabe, so take heed noob for you are on the path to success.

I define an Adsense Noob as someone who makes less then $300 dollars per month. They are probably pretty intelligent people and are very web-savvy, and they probably read tons of material and ebooks related to Adsense and internet marketing, but they simply cannot seem to get past this invisible threshold that is keeping them from higher profits.

I was stuck at this level for longer then I care to remember, and if you are at this level then please allow me to offer some humble advice that may allow you to advance to either level 4 or 5 depending on your personal preference. If you are really trying hard to make your Adsense earnings high enough to live off of and make a big change in your life (maybe quitting your job) and you are frustrated because you simply cannot figure out what you can possibly do to earn more money, then please for the love of all things good and sacred in this world pick a single website and stick with it!! This was my biggest mistake that kept me at the level of a noob for far too long, because I would pick a new topic and make a new website, and then a few weeks later I would do the same thing to the point that it felt like I was running in place.

If you are like me, sticking with a single website or blog as opposed to trying to build up many different ones simultaneously will be a real turning point for you. Think of it like this: when you go out of your way to focus all your attention like a laser on one single project, you will be building this one website up to a 5 instead of building 5 websites up to a 1. Not only that, but you are literally building up an asset because if your website was making you $2,000 per month on a fairly reliable basis, there is a good chance that you could sell it for 8-14 months of revenue.

Another factor that goes into graduating from the noob level is having all of the information you have been reading about Adsense, traffic generation and internet marketing to sink in on a subconscious level. This can take a while, because you need to read or hear something at least seven times before it will really sink in. But once you keep reading and absorbing information for a long time then it will eventually become habit and you will find that you are able to build highly optimized pages intuitively, and it is at this point that you should be able to move on to level 4 or 5 if you wish.

Fourth Level of the Adsense Spectrum: Empire Builders

Empire builders are the people that approach being an Adsense publisher from the perspective of building a business. They do not mess around, and they spend a decent portion of their mental energy focusing on the cold, hard numbers. The empire builder has many websites, and he/she focuses on things such as finding profitable keywords, improving CTR, discovering which websites topics tend to be the most profitable, testing page configurations and traffic generation methods, and so on. If this does not sound like fun to you, it certainly isn’t, and that is what separates the empire builder from the noob.

But just because focusing on improving CTR and split testing page layouts is not exactly fun does not mean that it is hard, and the potential payoff can seriously be worth the inconvenience of taking the time to do it right. There is an important paradigm shift that needs to take place in your awareness if you want to be a successful empire builder: you must realize that your profession is literally to connect advertisers with people who are interested in what they are promoting.

By creating content sites around a certain topic, you are drawing in people who are interested in that topic, and then you are ‘giving’ those visitors away to other websites that may not be as good at marketing as you are. The main thing to be aware of here is that even though you are building up a base of website visitors with the intention of having them leave your website by clicking on relevant ads, they will be leaving some money in your virtual tip jar as they go! If you are an empire builder, it is important that you do not get too attached to your websites and spend most of your attention focusing on how you can connect your visitors with relevant advertisers.

Fifth Level of the Adsense Spectrum: Adsense Whores

By my choice of words you may think this is a bad thing, but it’s not and it can potentially be extremely profitable to be an Adsense whore. The business model of the Adsense whore is to have one single website and have ads appearing on potentially millions of pages on the site. The key distinction here is that most of the time the single website that this person focuses on will be a community site or a networking site, and there will be thousands of members that effectively create unique content each and every day. And with all of the unique pages that your member base is creating, you can place your code on nearly every singe one of them.

A forum or a social networking website are great examples of websites that can make a killing using this type of business model. Many sites that are powered by user-generated content will employ an ad rotating script so that their adsense ads are rotated continually with other types of visual ads, so that the visitors do not become ‘banner blind’ and ignore the ads completely.

When you have a popular website and a member base numbering in the thousands or the tens of thousands, a 6-figure monthly income is not out of the question when you are able to monetize the vast number of pages that are being perpetually created. This level is out of reach for most people because it usually requires an extensive knowledge of web application programming and you will usually have to hire skilled programmers to work on the back end of the site and make sure that it is secure. This can be costly, and there is a chance that you will also need to hire people to moderate the content that users are creating. It is a full-on business, and it pays accordingly.

As you can see, Adsense publishers come in all types and sizes, and I hope this has been an enlightening aside on your journey towards higher profits.

No matter how attractive and interesting your blog is, if you don’t market it and attract readers to it, you won’t make any money. Basically, blog marketing is any activity that publicizes or advertises products, services, a website or business through the use of blogs. However, before you can market on a blog, you have to successfully market the blog itself. If you can’t generate a healthy amount of traffic to your blog, you won’t be able to directly or indirectly market to them.

The key to marketing your blog successfully is consistency and effectiveness. This means that you have to consistently post new, interesting articles to your blog that are relevant to your targeted audience as well as consistently engaging in activities designed to drive traffic to your blog. However, there is a caveat on this last suggestion. Your traffic generation activities have to be effective. To ensure the effectiveness of your blog marketing strategies you need to become well informed about the types of strategies that typically get the best results, consistently apply them and consistently monitor them. You must be willing to drop strategies that do not work and replace them with hopefully more effective ones. It is important that you are not attached to your strategies but to your outcomes. If it doesn’t work, change it. Flexibility is an essential element to blogging success.

Once you have created your blog and have submitted some interesting and unique posts that are designed to pique interest and engage your reader in conversation through the comments facility, you need to get your blog pages indexed in the major search engines such as Google and Yahoo. This process is not automatic and if you don’t take the necessary steps you will have little chance of benefiting from search engine traffic. Generally speaking search engines require you to submit a sitemap, however if your blog is hosted by a service like Blogger you won’t be able to access the root directory to obtain the information. Instead you will need to submit code in a meta-tag. Your blog provider will direct you on how to do this.

Once you have submitted your blog for indexing with the search engines, the next most important step you can take to generate traffic to your blog is to submit it to as many relevant blog directories as possible. This can be a time consuming process so if you can afford it you may find it beneficial to pay a service to manually submit the blog for you. Automatic submission services should be avoided as they do not make allowances for the visual confirmation that is usually needed when submitting a blog to a directory. Blog directories can really pay of in terms of attracting visitors to your blog as long as you list your blog in the correct category and you take care to write a description that accurately describes your blog and appeals to your targeted niche.

These steps may generate one time visitors but it is up to you to keep them. If your blog is not updated regularly with new material it will stagnate. Regular posting is not only important in terms of attracting a loyal readership, it is essential if you want to improve your search engine page rank. The best search engine results tend to go to blogs that are tightly focused on a single niche and give their readers unique information and excellent value.

Once you have followed these basic steps to getting your blog up and running successfully, you can encourage readers and promote loyalty by subscribing to a feed service such as Feedburner. Submitting individual posts to social bookmarking sites such as Digg and Del.icio.us can also bring your blog a decent amount of additional traffic.

Article marketing is another very effective way to drive traffic to your blog. It is a free strategy and produces naturally increasing traffic to your blog over time. However, it is a time consuming strategy which requires regular submission to article directories of articles closely related to the theme of your site and designed to encourage readers to click on your link beneath the article. It is also important that you do not put the same articles on your blog as you do not want your blog to be penalized under Google’s duplicate content rules.

Finally, take a bit of time and post comments on other related blogs that already have solid monthly traffic figures. Make your comments relevant and interesting and include a link to one of your own posts. You can also interact with others on high traffic forums and use your blog address as your signature link. Over time, these links can generate a decent amount of traffic.

Pay per click programs can also be very effective ways to drive traffic to your blog. However, these programs can be costly so you will need to conduct a cost benefit analysis to determine whether the potential profits to be made from the goods or services you are marketing are worth this expense.

If you follow these steps you will be best placed to generate traffic to your blog from which you will gain a growing base of loyal readers. Effective blog marketing will result in visitors to your blog who are interested in what you have to say and therefore who will be more open to the related products and services you are offering. A loyal readership provides you with a source of potential customers for your products, services and affiliate offers. When it comes right down to it, if you have monetized your blog well and you market it effectively, it can make you a lot of money.

After all the work you put in to producing your podcast, the last thing you may feel like doing is spending the time updating a website as well. There are plenty of services that will host your podcast episodes for you that don’t require any web administration on your part at all. Not having a website dedicated, at least in part, to your podcast is a critical mistake. Here are 6 reasons why your podcast needs a website.

· Brand Recognition
· Episode Archive
· Listener Interaction
· Daily Updates
· Humanize Yourself
· Monetization

Brand Recognition

Building a successful podcast is not just about putting out new content. If you want to grow your audience and attract listeners, one of the best things you can do is create, build, and nourish your brand. I spend a lot of time talking about the elements of a brand in this article. The website for your podcast is your opportunity to pull the listener away from iTunes or Libsyn for a moment and introduce them to your brand. Who you are, what your podcast is about and all kinds of other elements that just don’t translate into the podcast medium. Building brand loyalty among your listeners keeps them coming back for each new episode and will give you a strong foundation in the even you ever, start a second or third podcast, or get into some other type of online venture.

Episode Archive

Over time you will accumulate a large library of podcast episodes. For one reason or another you may find that you don’t want iTunes to list all 150 of your podcast episodes in the directory. However, every day there are going to be people finding your podcast for the first time and if they enjoy your podcast they are going to want to be able to go back to the beginning and listen to everything they have missed. Having a website allows you to have a central location where every single podcast episode you have produced can be easily found by a new listener.

It will also give them the opportunity to explore all of the other content that you have on the website that they may not have otherwise been exposed to if the only interaction they have with your podcast is through iTunes.

Listener Interaction

The website is another way for you to interact with your listeners. While some members of your audience may not feel like leaving a voicemail or sending you an email directly, they might be willing to leave a comment on a post the find on the website. The comments portion of your website is another great way for you to connect with and interact with your podcast audience. It is also a great way to remind all of your listeners, outside of the podcast, about all of the different ways they can contact you: email, voicemail, etc.

Daily Updates

Sometimes there will be news or events related to either your podcast topic or the podcast itself that is time sensitive. It may be that by the time your new podcast episode is released the information will no longer be applicable or you may have missed a deadline. The website is a great resource for immediate interaction with your audience to let them know what is happening now.

In addition, there may be some things happening in your niche that may not be applicable to your podcast topic but is something that you know your listeners will be interested in. A quick post on the website to let them know what is going on is a great add-on value to your podcast.

One word of caution about this utilization of your website. The same rules for your podcast hold true with the website. If it is not good quality content that provides something of benefit to your user then it doesn’t go on the website. If people who frequent your website find it increasingly full of garbage then they will stop visiting the site. Always be sure to make your website posts interesting with your own added value to keep them coming back for more.

Humanize Yourself

Depending on the nature of your podcast or your podcast topic, you may find it hard to just be yourself sometimes. It may not fit your podcast to be silly or sarcastic during the course of the episode. The website is a great chance to humanize the podcast host for the listeners. Step out from behind the microphone and be a person, not a podcast host.

Give your audience a brief update on how you are doing personally that week. If you are having a hard time getting motivated to put out a new episode, tell them, better yet tell them why. If you saw something that made you think of an email you got from a listener or something you said in a previous episode, bring that up to.

You might even use the website to give the listeners more insight into who you are personally that they might never get to see in the course of the podcast. Connecting with our audience on a human level will give them that much more appreciation for you when you get back behind the microphone as the podcast host.

Monetization

For many of you monetization may be one of the biggest reasons for having a website related to your podcast. Whether you use Google AdSense, Affiliate programs, or sell your own products on the website; in order to make money podcasting there is really no way around having your own website.

A directory is a large database or catalog of various information regarding different issues and topics. When one thinks of a directory, what automatically comes to mind is a telephone directory in which it contains a list of telephone numbers arranged alphabetically. But when it comes to the Internet, there are also directories that contain not lists of telephone numbers but a list of different topics sorted out according to the categories and subcategories. Listing topics as such helps Internet users make use of the directory in a fast and organized manner.

Benefits of Directories

Directories offer a lot of benefits not only to the Internet users but to those people who own websites and do business over the Internet. For businessmen, when listed with a good directory, they find increased traffic, thus, increased business potentials. For Internet users, as stated above, directories are a great help for them in searching for the topic that they need. They do not have to look for it randomly as they are listed in categories and subcategories, thus, making the search much easier.

When listed with a good directory, it can increase your ranking in search engines. It also gives you the benefit of linking with other prominent websites, provided that your web content is similar to theirs.

Kinds of Directories

There are mainly two kinds of directories: the paid and the free directory.

As the name implies, paid directories require people who want to have their websites listed in the directory to pay a fee. But before the website is listed, it has to go through its editors where the editors check for website content and relevance. Once the website content passed, it is then listed in its appropriate category or subcategory. Websites that are listed in the paid directories often gets more relevant and better traffic. Also, with paid directories, your website gets linked to other prominent websites that are of similar topic to yours. This, in turn, can increase your Page Rank or ranking in search engines.

Free directories, on the other hand, are obviously free. Website owners need not pay for their sites to be listed in the directory, but like paid directories, it also has to go through the editors of the directory before it gets listed. The directory of this kind also tends to get much more traffic than does the paid directory. One disadvantage though with free directories is that you also get more spam.
