Sermon on the Mount (Jan. 29th)

We invite the congregation and community to experience Jesus' most famous sermon at 10:31am, Sunday, January 29th. Narrated and dramatized by members of First Presbyterian, this presentation captures the attention and brings to heart the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Special children's activities will be provided to focus them on what is being taught through the words and actions of the drama.

After the service, around noon, a spaghetti lunch will be served in the Fellowship Hall as we digest the message with those around us ($4/person or $12/family suggested donation). Following the meal, the congregation is invited to stay for our Annual Meeting where we will look back at the life of our church in 2011 (get your copy of the FPC Annual Report here), and Pastor Albert will deliver his report from the Fellowship of Presbyterians conference he has been at in Orlando. Children and Youth will have a movie time in the Youth Room so parents are able to attend the meeting. Nursery care is also provided for all the events of the morning.

Ice Skating & Chili Feed, Jan. 22nd

On Sunday, the 22nd, we will be having our annual Ice Skating Party at the YWCA followed by games and Chili-Feed at the church. Meet at the Ice Chalet at 4:30pm and show us your skills on skates! Yes, Children and Teens will be there, but they need YOU to show them how to do this right!

At 5:30pm we will walk across the street and head to the basement Fellowship Hall, where a meal of chili, cornbread, hot dogs, and sides will be waiting for us. Socialize with those at your table or play a number of game possibilities (ping pong, pool, air hockey, cards, Wii, etc). Feel free to come just for the dinner* if Ice Skating isn't your thing.

This church and community wide event is a wonderful way to connect with each other and have fun at the same time. Suggested donation for the entire day is $3/person or $10/family. Check in at the Ice Chalet with the person with the goofy looking hat.

Other events:
- The new Life Changes support group will meet at 4pm for those facing the loss of a spouse, job, business, or relationship. *This will allow for those attending to join in the meal together.
- The High School Youth will have an informational meeting about the Summer Mission Trip after dinner at 6:30pm in the Youth Room

When Life Changes...

What’s next after you’ve lost a loved one, your job or business fails, or your marriage disintegrates? Join with others who have had similar experiences and learn together to find how to carry on to improve your outlook. On Sunday, January 8, at 5:00 p.m. a group will begin meeting together to learn how to strengthen themselves to better deal with an unwanted change. The group discussions will take place in an atmosphere of listening and respect.

Whether young or old, newly grieving or long-struggling, we invite men and women to come to this first meeting and join in as we find the best way to support and learn from each other. We’ll talk from a Christian viewpoint, pray together and study God’s word. We’ll share, learn, worship and eat together in a low stress atmosphere.

The discussion facilitators are Doug and Patsy Warnock, who have both experienced the loss of a spouse. For more information or to sign up, please call Doug or Patsy at 509-849-2264. We want to hear from you if you would like to participate, have questions, or just want to talk.

Star Wars Movie Marathon

On December 27th, 9:30am - 11:00pm in the Youth Rooms, the Youth will be hosting all six Star Wars movies in a single event! We know that Star Wars enthusiasts exist outside of teen years, so you are cordially invited to be a part of this epic event, whether you are Fan-Boy enough to stick it out the whole 13+ hours, or just come for a bit of the epic saga.
Food and drink will be provided from time to time, odd videos about Star Wars will be shown, and the rumor of Wii Star Wars is in the air. Don't miss this Christmas Break spectacular!

Christmas Services at First Presbyterian

We invite everyone, whether this will be your first visit or you've been coming to First Pres for decades, to come celebrate Christmas with us this year. Our aim is to truly focus on Jesus as the reason for the season, and we have several opportunities to experience this time of great joy:

Christmas Eve is our most visited time, with three services offered.
At 5:00pm we have a "wiggle-friendly" service, with younger children and families in mind. The message is presented by a short drama, with music by the praise band, carols, and an all around joyous time!
The 7:00pm service is a traditional Lessons & Carols service, with music by choirs, brass ensemble, and more. The message of Christ's birth is delivered through song and includes a candle lighting ceremony.
Our 11:00pm service provides a more contemplative atmosphere as we reflect on what Jesus' birth means to those who witnessed it and to us today and throughout all generations. Candlelight and Communion grace this celebration of the true impact God makes on our lives today and throughout the year.
(Nursery childcare available at 5:00. Nursery-5th grade childcare available at 7:00. No childcare at 11:00)

A Christmas Morning celebration service will be held at 10:31am as we welcome in the day that God gave the greatest gift of all; His only Son. Music is provided by the praise band and choirs, with a focus on the carols that have told of Christmas through the ages.

Christmas Caroling this Thursday

Everyone is invited to join together and go caroling this Thursday, December 22nd, from 6:30pm until 8:00pm. We all meet at the church to start, and will visit neighborhoods where several of our shut-in members live, as well as near the church itself. The church van will be there to transport folk, and a few others may carpool together. Following the caroling, we will all gather back at the church for cookies and cocoa together.

Young Adult Groups in December

Young Adult* gatherings continue on December 19th at Ben & Kate VanDonge's (226 SW Davis Ave. College Place, 99324) at 7:00pm.

It's just a night of socializing, maybe games, some munchies (feel free to bring a snack to share), and a chance to pause a moment and focus on our lives as Christians together. On that last note, consider where you've seen/read/heard something that has sparked your thought process about your faith, Christianity, the church, etc and share it with us there (it's a new thing we're trying).

Christmas Pageant: Sunday, December 18th

The 2011 Christmas Pageant will be at 10:31am on December 18th. Both services combine at this hour to enjoy the Christmas story as portrayed by children and teens from our congregation. Bring family and friends to experience this time of joy, meaning, music, and children in nativity costumes!

2010 Christmas Pageant

A Cookie Reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall for everyone (oh, cookies are supplied by those in the congregation, so bake a batch of your best and bring them to share with everyone!)

Participants will meet at 9:01am in the sanctuary to run through their parts one last time. The more the merrier, so bring your children so that they can be a part of this annual treat! Questions? Email Sarah or call the church office.

Walla Walla Choral Society Christmas Concerts

Walla Walla Choral Society presents "On Christmas Night", Saturday, December 3rd, at 3:oo pm or Tuesday, December 6th, at 7:30 pm.

Lift your hearts, as we lift our voices in bringing in the Christmas season this year. We would love the pleasure of your company. Our concert includes a variety of your favorites, plus Daniel Pinkham's Christmas Cantata.

1st Sunday of Advent

Advent is here and we come together as a family united in our faith in Jesus Christ, the reason for the season. As a part of our festivities at First Presbyterian, we are inviting each and every one of our members, attendees, visitors, children, youth, and seniors to share with each other. Every Sunday in Advent will feature pictures drawn, sketched, scribbled, inked, and designed by you!

This past Sunday showed the first drawings, put together by children in Sunday School, but we want to have everyone involved with this; a blank page is included with Sunday Service Bulletins, and pencils and crayons reside in the pews if you wish to work on these during service. Others may wish to take more time, and we simply ask that you have your artwork to us by each Wednesday evening (coincidentally we have an all-church dinner every Wednesday!) to include on the following Sunday's 9:01 bulletins and the backgrounds of slides during both services.

You may wish to sign your art, or let it remain a mystery. We just hope that everyone will share their vision of what Advent & Christmas mean with the rest of our Family. Drop your art by the office, or email it to advent@wwpcusa.org. If you have any questions, ask Kevin or call the church office.

Stone Soup Sunday (November 27th)

Stone Soup

Sunday the 27th brings a myriad of opportunities to us this year! We will be gathering together on this first Sunday of Advent for One Celebration Service at 10:31am, with elements from both regular services in evidence (namely the Praise Band and the Choir!). Children will be meeting in their Sunday School classrooms to start practicing for the Christmas Pageant (Dec. 18th). After the service members are asked to stay for a very quick Congregational Meeting regarding new Elders and Deacons for the 2012 term.

After the service - roughly 11:45am - everyone is invited to come to the Fellowship Hall to enjoy our Stone Soup festivities. As you enter, you will be handed a candle with a name/word on the wax-guard. Once everyone has entered, we will light the candles one at a time, speaking the Name of Jesus that is found on your candle. Once every candle has been lit, and the Names of Jesus spoken, we will sing Silent Night together, and then be seated to enjoy Turkey Vegetable Soup, Thanksgiving Herb Bread, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Veggies, & Decorate-Your-Own Cookies!

Youth Turkey Bowl

After lunch, Children will be able to make Christmas Crafts while the Adults participate in the annual Hanging of the Greens, decorating the church in anticipation of Christmas (Advent).
Youth will be heading outside to play their annual Turkey Bowl football game, after which they will stay for pizza and a movie down in the Youth Caves.
