Can't see that being an issue Vinny. I am planning to get as much footage as possible as well. On the Pacific side we are viewing Grays from Pangas anyway so one is hanging over the side much of the time. They are very relaxed there and if there are enough of us then we would hire a Panga specifically for our party.

Hi Folks just back from a trip to Skellig Michael and was looking up your site. Trouble is I dont have a car and would love to know how to organise a trip down to you from Kerry where I am living. I know there is public transport could you give me a bit more information about transport to and from and also accomodation. Im in to birdwatching too but only a beginner. Would love to go on a whale watching holiday but me thinks I would need to win the lotto to do so. Could you send me on some information on the above and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Many thanks

Yes Sandra...it was good to clear that confusion up once we had found and identified the Risso's pod. Lovely sighting for this gorgeous sunny afternoon...they were spotted later in the morning and confused with Pilot Whales...easily done at a distance. Lovely Minke Whale sighting yesterday in perfect conditions.

"The animals had stopped feeding by the time we arrived." Now that sounds like my type of experience!! :-D

It seems that the Killer Whales turned out to be Risso's Dolphins. I'm kind of glad really. I see little enough as it is without the Killer Whales rolling up and scoffing what's there. Besides, a pod of 8 Risso's would be well worth the journey - especially if, like me, you've never even seen one.

The news of the the young Porpoises is nice to hear.

Hi Alan. Thank you so much for posting this. They were almost certainly Minke Whales as each year the early sightings are made in this area. These are the smallest of the balleen whales that come into Irish waters and the larger ones can reach up to around 30ft long. They are frequently seen in pairs or threes but if you don't see them all come up together then it is difficult to know exact numbers. All the best. Nic. WWWC

Using my binoculars this afternoon (3.30 pm) I was watching a stetch of water between Crookhaven Harbour and just west of The Fasnet Rock and about 3 - 4 miles out I saw a very dark long back of a whale with a small black dorsel fin which seemed to be located quite far back on its body. Its was swimming in an easterly direction. About 2/3 mins later I saw another fin which was very similar. It seemed to be a 2nd whale. I think this because it appeared in a very similar position and I would have expected the whale to have moved alot further east and not to be in the same place.
I have a basic whale/ dolphin book and the whale reminded most of fin whale. Long, black and small dorsal.
Just wondering if anyone else saw what I saw and has more infromation and detail
Regards
Alan

How utterly, utterly upsetting. Mass slaughter by humans is just the worst but when 30 beach up of their own accord it just seems so finally tragic.

hello Nic,
about killer whales> a young one stranded in the Waddenzee (north of holland, neighbourhood from the five isles) and was in bad condition but stabilized. They try to 'upgrade' the orca and to bring her back to Scotland where they think the whale lived. Very, very special for Holland, like you see special things in Baltimore Bay. It's a pity I'm back in Holland and not in Baltimore. But I've got dreams, dreams to remember, like Otis Redding once sang.
greetings, Gerard
