What Are Lagubrious Shipping Labels and Who Really Cares?

What exactly are lugubrious Shipping Labels and who really cares anyway?

Has anyone ever heard of Earl Nightingale?

He was one of the pioneers of self help audio tapes and is the Nightingale of Nightingale-Conant fame. He's also one of my personal favorite self-help gurus.

It is definitely worth your while to listen to Earl's "Lead the Field" program if you haven't already.

Somewhere in that program, he uses the word "lugubrious". The first time I heard it I had no idea what it meant but Earl used within context and used a synonym in the sentence that clarified its meaning without even looking it up in a dictionary.

Only Earl Nightingale would think to use a big, dark, dreary, word like lugubrious, so simply and so eloquently. He made learning new vocabulary words fun. Hard to imagine isn't it?

I was traveling to visit my nieces when I last listened to "Lead the Field" and heard Earl mention that word. And since it struck me, I taught it my nieces.

Although they are young (ages 6 to 12) they learned a new word when I arrived.

I thought of that whole incident just now and even though it does not have any context related to shipping labels, I thought it would be a great way to introduce you to a new vocabulary word and a fine self-help audio series like "Lead the Field"

Laser Toner Cartridge Stocking Stuffers

Merry Christmas folks!

Do you remember the good old days when stocking stuffers were very simple, inexpensive and a practical way to give someone you loved a gift that was sure to please?

I used to love giving (and getting) stockings filled with stuff like an oranges, apples, (any kind of fruit) some razor blades, shampoo, a tooth brush, toothpaste and maybe a LifeSaver Candy Booklet or a Snickers bar (doesn't this fit in well with the toothbrush and toothpaste theme?) and a maybe yo-yo (did I really use the word practical?)

This year, I was trying to rack my brain to come up with some new "practical" yet "inexpensive" stocking stuffers and so I found myself searching the local retail store flyers and brainstorming to get some new ideas.

Here's what I came up with ...

Apple Ipod - Yeah, this may physically fit inside a Christmas stocking but "practical and inexpensive" they are not.

Diamond Earrings - again, the correct physical size for a stocking stuffer but that's about it.

Garmin's GPS System - yep it's real practical (I guess) but like everything else on this new list it's lacking in the inexpensive category (this sounds so much better than cheap doesn't it?)

HP Brand Laser Toner Cartridges - practical... maybe unless you consider that I could get a compatible laser toner cartridge for 30-50% less!

Needless to say... my feeble attempt at finding "new" and innovative stocking stuffers ended in failure.

I'll settle instead on the traditional "tried and true"!

After all, isn't Christmas all about family and tradition?

That's why this year, the ones I love will continue (after all it's a tradition!) to get a couple of pieces of fruit, a toothbrush a piece of candy and maybe a yo-yo or too!

Remanufactured Cartridges? Are You Serious!

Two days ago we talked about "OEM" Cartridges.

Yesterday, "Compatible" Cartridges was the topic of our post.

Now today, we'll wrap it up by tackling the dreaded "Remanufactured" Cartridges

Let's start with what "Remanufactured" cartridges are. Remanufactured cartridges are "recycled" cartridges.

When you've completely used all of your ink in your printer, copier or fax, the only thing that remains is the hard plastic shell (usually) and its component parts.

This cartridge and components can for the most part, be reused (in some cases) over and over again, by simply refilling the toner or ink and repairing or replacing the worn out components or parts.

It is in essence "remanufactured" and a pretty darn good way to help save the environment! Pretty clever, no?

Recycling and reprocessing these cartridges may involve taking the "old" cartridge apart, inspecting it, cleaning it, replacing worn parts with new or recycled parts, and then re-assembling, and re-filling the toner cartridge with ink.

Once the process is complete, the cartridge is then usually print tested, sealed, and packaged for resale.

Not all manufacturer's that "remanufacture" ink cartridges meet or exceed OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications. If you discover one that does, you should see little or no difference in the operation and quality of the remanufactured cartridge as compared to the OEM cartridge.

That is, the print quality will be similar, and the operation and reliability of the cartridge will be the same as well.

How can you tell a good "remanufactured" cartridge from a bad one?

The same way you can tell a good "compatible" cartridge from a bad one.

You can't tell by just looking at them! You have to try them!

OEM Cartridges & Knowing Your Rights

OEM is an abbreviation for "Original Equipment Manufacturer".

OEM cartridges are the "brand name" cartridges that usually come installed with the printer you buy.

OEM cartridges have brand names like Hewlett-Packard, Canon, IBM, Sharp, Lexmark, Brother, Epson, Dell etc.

These OEM cartridges may or may not be manufactured by the company that produces the actual printer.

You may be led to believe that using anything other than the OEM or "brand name" cartridge that came with your printer will void the warranty in your printer.

This is not true.

Don't be fooled that OEM cartridges are your only options!

A few weeks ago I described my experience with those fun loving ink refill kits you can buy just about anywhere... and to be honest with you my experience pales in comparison to the one these two guys had!

At least they had fun when they tried it!
