This represents about 17% local participation, a number organizers hope to grow in future years. Marshalls receive extensive preparation, which involves site, online, and practical training sessions covering a variety of subjects, including flags and flag signaling, safety checks, and emergency situations. They may be called upon to respond to incidents and/or extinguish fires, alongside many other practical aspects of race control. The tasks include flag signalling, the incident team, and paddock health and safety, and many support roles. While no prior experience is required, applicants with experience in fire safety, rescue skills, or racing are prioritized during the selection process.

“The marshals are the eyes and ears of race control,” said Silvia Bellot, the vice president of Las Vegas Grand Prix sporting and race operations.

“We select the ones who have previous experience with fire, with some rescue capabilities, and some people who have minor experience with the sport,” Bellot said.

Logan Ponce, a local resident and returning volunteer, shared his excitement about being part of the event. “I wanted to get closer to the action, so you are volunteering your time, but you are right up front,” Ponce said.

As Formula 1 continues to grow in popularity in Las Vegas, the marshals have an important role in ensuring the safety of everyone —drivers, teams, and spectators — while providing a great fan experience.

Trent Reznor’s voice commands four tracks on the album. His raw vocals pierce through “I Know You Can Feel It” amid waves of static and beats. On “Who Wants To Live Forever?” Spanish artist Judeline joins Reznor for an intense back-and-forth.

Dark, instrumental pieces weave between the vocal tracks. “Still Remains” builds tension through stark beats. “This Changes Everything,” “Infiltrator,” and “A Question of Trust” pulse with machine-like precision.

While Reznor and bandmate Atticus Ross scored films like Challengers and Soul before, this is their first full soundtrack as Nine Inch Nails. Their past work hints at the skills they bring to this new project.

The album takes a different path than Daft Punk’s pure electronic score for Tron: Legacy in 2010. NIN mixes raw vocals with stark instrumentals, aligning with the film’s score, incorporating recognizable vocals, and creating a fresh take on the Tron sound. 

In the film, an AI called Ares breaks free. Fans can stream the soundtrack now on NIN’s website. The film is set to hit theaters on October 10, with a Disney+ release to follow, alongside past Tron films.

Another interesting fact is that the average age of retirement has increased over the years, and it’s up from age 57 in 1991, according to CNBC. Finally, the expected age of retirement has increased from age 63 in 2002 to 66 in 2022, The Motley Fool notes.

The CNBC post notes, “According to a new Gallup survey, which interviewed 1,018 adults in the U.S., the average reported retirement age has increased from age 57, where it was in 1991, to age 61 in 2022. The survey also showed that individuals’ planned retirement ages increased as well, from age 60 in 1995 to 66 in 2022, revealing a trend in which people are retiring later and expecting to work longer.”

From a young age, Hozier was enthralled by music. He taught himself how to play guitar and started writing songs by age 15. Film students Peter Tackaberry and Elizabeth Voss caught the wild set on two Sony Video8 cameras. “Kurt let me set up on the stage to capture the energy and spirit of the performance up close,” Tackaberry said, per PetaPixel.

The sale includes two master tapes, Camera A and Camera B, plus digital copies on MiniDV. A portable drive holds uncut footage, edited versions, and snapshots from that night.

The buyer will also get a tour poster from the band’s February 15 show at Raji’s in Los Angeles. There’s a white vinyl first pressing of “Bleach” too, one of just 1,000 made.

This show featured Nirvana with Chad Channing on drums, before being replaced by Dave Grohl. The tapes stayed locked away for 35 years. The winner gets full U.S. rights to the footage.

Bidding ended at 12 p.m. PDT  on September 25.

During Three Days Grace’s performance at active rock radio station WRIF-FM’s RiffFest on Saturday, Sept. 20, Adam Gontier and Matt Walst from the band spoke with WRIF personality Meltdown about the band’s time touring with the legendary Rolling Stones. Meltdown pointed out seeing some autographed memorabilia from the band backstage, too.

As the band explained, they did two shows with the Rolling Stones and “after the first night when we got off stage, there was a note from Keith Richards just saying, ‘Nice one pals.'” What an honor.

So, the band gave that note to their tour manager who gave it to Barry’s wife, Heather, to hold onto,” they continued. “Then, Christmas rolled around a few years later, and she got these things made up. A picture with us with the Stones and the set list and all that stuff. So yeah, it’s just a keepsake.”

Having Adam Gontier Back in Three Days Grace

Switching gears, the band also opened up about having Gontier back in the back as their vocalist but also keeping Walst as their singer, too. It’s a fun and unique dynamic to have both with the band.

“It’s been amazing, man,” Gontier and Walst said. “The fans are loving it, which we couldn’t be happier about.”

“We grew up together,” the guys added, “so it wasn’t like Van Halen trying to get their singers together. They are two completely different people from different places. We grew up in the same small town, so we’ve been friends for years. So, it’s been pretty easy.”

When Gontier was away from Three Days Grace, he formed Saint Asonia, and he talked about how difficult it was building that band from the ground up.

“For sure, man. I mean, that was probably the biggest challenge, was just trying to build up the name because, people didn’t know the name,” he told Meltdown. “A lot of people still don’t know the name, so I was starting from from the ground up on that one.”

Whether he’s playing with Three Days Grace or Saint Asonia, Gontier is just happy to be back on the stage.

“I love playing live,” he said. “It’s all about the music and playing shows. That’s what I love to do.”

So, he said that even though “the level of it changed, for sure,” in Saint Asonia, “it’s still fun to go out there and play.”

The restaurant’s name pays tribute to the untold story of his ancestors who fled British rule in Jamaica to build new communities and farm in the mountains.

During Labor Day weekend, Onwuachi visited the Obodo Collective urban farm in the Historic Westside of Las Vegas. He established connections with farmers in the area, discussing topics such as crops damaged by wind, as well as herbs like Thai basil. The farm operated with a sustainable mission, which closely aligned with his own values about responsible sourcing and understanding food origin.

“I think it was something that was ingrained in me at a young age, caring about where my food came from. I also grew up in a food desert in the Bronx,” said Onwuachi. “Inherently, growing up, it was you get what you can. Sustainability in some forms is a privilege to think about, especially in a food desert. But as I have grown in my career to this point, it’s something that’s necessary that I think about.”

Las Vegas is preparing for a wave of diverse culinary additions. New openings include Cote Korean Steakhouse at The Venetian, Gymkhana at Aria, Wineaux at JW Marriott Las Vegas Summerlin, and Carbone Riviera at Bellagio, each adding to the city’s global dining reputation.

“There should be more Caribbean restaurants on the Strip. Seeing yourself on a plate of food is also representation. And I don’t think we should forget that,” he said. “The goal of my restaurants has always been for people of color to go in and celebrate their culture while celebrating such a special occasion as getting engaged or graduation or an anniversary. They’re going to look down and see themselves in the food. I think it’s going to be a very special restaurant. I’m truly proud and grateful to be able to do this,” shared Amber Sampson.

Health experts, including Yale Medicine, have strongly recommended that even patients prescribed pain medications carry naloxone to prevent accidental overdoses. This event focused on a great variety of communities at several distribution points located in Downtown, the Arts District, Allegiant Stadium, the Strip, and LGBTQ neighborhoods. There were at least three stationary sites on Fremont Street and in the Arts District to have ongoing access.

Jamie Hatfield, who is now a case manager for Shine A Light and has been active in the social work field, discussed her real-life account of addiction, overdose, and recovery, as well as the impact Narcan had on her life and on many of her fellow recovery network members.

“A lot of my clients, most of the people in my office, most of the people in my recovery circle have all had Narcan used on them at one point in time, and are now living beautiful lives. It’s insane. If you talk to the people that are in the recovery community, hundreds, thousands have all said yes, I was dosed with Narcan, saved my life,” said Hatfield.

“Anybody that’s taking any kind of pill nowadays could overdose. And you never know,” said Hatfield.

“I lost my kid because of my addiction. I’ve got him back. I got back in my family’s life. I robbed them for everything they had at one point, and they wanted nothing to do with me,” said Hatfield.

Hatfield’s testimony highlighted how Narcan has been vital not only for homeless populations but for anyone at risk of overdose. Many individuals in recovery and drug court programs have been saved by Narcan, demonstrating its critical role in prevention and long-term recovery efforts.

Passengers checking luggage at Terminal 1 for flights departing from the D Gates are advised to use the temporary shuttle service while the airport monitors the situation. Those not checking luggage can continue to access the D Gates via the Terminal 3 tram.

Airport officials confirmed the outage and stated that a maintenance team worked quickly with airport personnel to restore service. Normal tram operations have resumed, but officials continue to recommend allowing extra time for travel.

“Our dedicated tram team monitors and maintains the system regularly, and like any complex mechanical equipment, occasional maintenance and repairs are required to keep it operating safely and reliably,” officials said.

In addition to the earlier tram issue, traffic congestion has been reported in the Northbound Airport Connector tunnel, which may create further delays for drivers heading to the airport.

Travelers should consult their airlines directly for flight updates and allow for possible delays due to both ground traffic and earlier tram service disruptions.

Bobbi Dunn Cantrell and her son Argyle traveled from Indiana to Douglass Park for the music festival. The birthday boy, now 16, held a sign that caught everyone’s attention: “Hi! It’s my 16th birthday! I’m autistic and Green Day is my special interest. Can I come on stage and sing ‘Know Your Enemy?'”, NME reports.

The mother and child had separated while she was on a quick bathroom break. “I was in panic mode all day because we got separated when I went to the bathroom and couldn’t get back to him. He parked by the stage around noon and didn’t leave all day,” wrote Cantrell on Armstrong’s Instagram.

In the state of Nevada, 15 cyclists were killed in crashes in 2024, 11 of them were in Clark County. As of September 2025, there have already been seven fatalities in Metro’s jurisdiction, marking a 50% increase compared to the same period last year. Nevada is now ranked as the ninth most dangerous state for cyclists, with Clark County showing a troubling rise in fatalities over the past two years.

The Regional Transportation Commission has identified five bus routes with the highest bicycle traffic: Tropicana, Flamingo, Sahara, Charleston, and Eastern. Many of the recent crashes involve commuting cyclists who use bikes to reach bus stops for public transportation, highlighting the everyday risks for riders who depend on their bikes.

Cyclists like Jasmine, a food delivery rider, frequently encounter hazardous situations on the road. “They don’t really like to share the road,” Jasmine said. “People are not looking to the left or right, and then the left again, so I have gotten bumped in the back before.”

Law enforcement is emphasizing the importance of traffic law compliance among drivers, including the requirement to move to the left lane when passing cyclists and to maintain a minimum three-foot distance. Officers will be actively monitoring high-traffic areas and issuing tickets to people who violate the rules. “There will be a police officer on a bike…when he sees someone that could have moved over and didn’t, or someone who did not give him 3 feet, and you’ll get a ticket,” Erin Breen, director of the Road Equity Alliance Project at UNLV, said.

Each state is very different when it comes to trick-or-treating. Now, the crew at Kuru Footwear has put together a feature on the best states to trick-or-treat in the country.

“Between the thrill of trick-or-treating and seeing the best-decorated houses on the block, families are in for a night of fun and lots of walking,” they note, since they obviously are a footwear company. They add that on Halloween, “kids are suiting up in their costumes, ready to collect all the candy they can carry.”

So, where does our state land? According to the study, it’s the No. 17 best state for trick-or-treating with a score of 57 out of 100. The top state for the fun is Utah, with the outlet stating, “Known for its incredible skiing and stunning scenery, it also has a low pedestrian fatality rate of 1.33 per 100,000 people and almost 28% of its population is under 18.” They add that “with a 60-degree Halloween evening on the horizon, you’ve got the perfect setting for some safe, spooky fun.”

As for a fun fact about Halloween, Mamie Eisenhower was the first person to decorate the White House for Halloween, Good Housekeeping notes. “In 1958, First Lady Mamie Eisenhower decorated the White House for Halloween for the first time with skeletons hanging from the wall lights, yellow jack-o’-lanterns, dried corn, black cats, and goblins, among other decor, “they add. “Many of the White House’s other occupants have continued the tradition of decorating the home for Halloween.”

Using their social media reach of 120,000 followers, the six-week collection drive at eight spots pulled in much-needed items. They gathered 180 pairs of pajamas, stuffed animals for 42 children, bathroom supplies, and enough diapers and wipes to fill 40 boxes.

“This last drive really resonated with a few of our artists who said it was important to them because they were also from that lifestyle—a foster care situation,” said Zach Saucier to the Las Vegas Weekly.

By mid-2025, the county had connected 263 children with new families. The stats paint a clear picture – teenagers over 15 make up only 3% of adoptions since 2022. Kids typically wait 17 months to find a home.

Most kids – around 81% – need care due to neglect. Drug abuse and household violence affect 27% of cases. Early 2025 saw 4% more children coming into the system.

Kids find homes in 300 regular foster houses and 145 special care facilities. Over half stay with relatives or close family friends who meet the requirements.

They welcome all types of parents. Single people, married couples, retired folks and LGBTQ individuals can provide caring homes. Currently, they really need homes for young kids and sibling groups.

At Koolsville’s pink building, known for its $10 tattoos, workers who have personal connections to foster care helped organize the drive. They’re already planning to support the county’s Give Joy holiday program.

This Phoenix show was part of Nine Inch Nails’ Peel It Back Tour. The band hadn’t played in North America in three years. They closed out the tour with two final shows in Los Angeles, on September 18-19.

“The two words: be kind. What you say might cheer them up in a way you don’t know,” said Well-Knight.

Her music taste includes many hard rock acts, including Tool, A Perfect Circle, Linkin Park, and Korn.

The program picks special moments for older adults, fulfilling their dreams to keep their minds and spirits strong. Wells Knight faced her own loss when cancer took her husband not long ago.

The award spotlights musicians who channel the spirit of Oklahoma’s own folk legend. Winners must show dedication to justice, equality, and basic human worth, values that defined Guthrie’s work. At the event, his granddaughter, Anna Canoni, will speak about U2’s connection to her grandfather’s mission.

Since their 1976 start in Dublin, the band has woven social messages into their music. For over 45 years, they’ve crafted songs that shine light on global struggles. Their work includes many fights against crushing poverty.

The award brings the band full circle to Cain’s Ballroom on October 21. They last played this historic venue in Tulsa in 1981 while touring their first album. Their most recent stop in the city was a packed show at the BOK Center in 2018.

Trees credits his culinary philosophy to lessons learned from mentors Michael Mina, Bradley Ogden, and Luke Palladino, emphasizing kindness, passion, and a talented staff over financial gain. The restaurant will offer traditional steakhouse fare relocated from the Rio’s multiple menus, but with something original created. Trees was excited about a game-with-the-game menu developed uniquely and constantly evolving with a contemporary take on games people enjoyed when they were children. Signature items include a creamed spinach dish enhanced with basil and nutmeg, as well as smoked prime rib sandwiches that reflect Trees’ commitment to simple, quality preparation.

“I think the game menu is going to surprise people. We have so many things we have researched and developed that this menu, will unlike a lot of steakhouse menus, continue to evolve. Also, I think our take on all the classic steakhouse options is going to be cool for people to enjoy. I’m excited about the creamed spinach with basil and nutmeg,” shared Trees.

“We start with a menu frame. Inside of that, we add all the categories that we wanna start filling out, and then we add the things that are automatic in those categories. We have to have a Caesar’s salad, we have to have a crabcake, we have to have a filet, we have to have a ribeye. Once you get past the top-10 items, that’s when the fun starts because then you look at those items, see what trim you will have, and then you get to start creating as a chef, I think [that’] the most important thing.”

High Steaks’ menu was developed alongside chefs Joe Swan and Adam Rios, who bring additional expertise in steakhouse concepts and menu innovation. The restaurant will open nightly from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., with reservations available through OpenTable. For private groups, customized arrangements are also available.

When asked who he would most like to cook for in Las Vegas, Trees named Steve Wynn, saying he would prepare a simple, spicy fish dish inspired by Wynn’s love of mussels with fennel and nduja.

The fixed-wing aircraft is a flying intensive care unit, equipped with the latest medical technology and the ability to transport whole blood for immediate transfusion.

Mercy Air 51 is operated by Air Methods and is staffed by highly trained flight nurses and paramedics. The team is ready to handle numerous medical emergencies, such as traumatic injuries, cardiac events, and severe motor vehicle collisions. The training of Mercy Air 51 does allow for a continuum of care before reaching the hospital.

The new base greatly improves emergency response times, allowing lifesaving treatment to reach residents in hard-to-reach areas or in poor weather. It is a big move forward in providing consistent, high-quality medical care to the entire region.

“This isn’t just about a machine, it’s about making sure that no matter where someone lives, lifesaving care is always within reach,” Ryan Muccio, marketing and outreach coordinator for Desert View Hospital in Pahrump, said in a statement.

“As part of our efforts to transform our business and position Spirit for long-term success, we are adjusting our network to focus on our strongest performing markets. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue service at Albuquerque (ABQ), Birmingham (BHM), Boise (BOI), Chattanooga (CHA), Columbia (CAE), Oakland (OAK), Portland (PDX), Sacramento (SMF), Salt Lake City (SLC), San Diego (SAN) and San Jose (SJC), effective the week of Oct. 2,” a spokesperson shared.

Eight of these affected cities are linked to Las Vegas routes. According to the local airport, other airlines will continue to serve these destinations from Las Vegas, ensuring travelers still have options even as Spirit exits those markets.

Spirit Airlines plans to also cut its workforce to match a reduced schedule. To this end, the airline plans to furlough about 270 pilots in November 2025 and about 1,800 flight attendants in December 2025, around one-third of Spirit’s cabin crew, as part of the airline’s realignment in connection with the fleet and flight frequency offered.

The full impact of these cuts remains uncertain. Travel professionals and those who travel are watching the situation carefully to see what the effects could be on tourism and air travel in Las Vegas. Diminished flight choices on some direct routes drive up rates and create more availability problems with the other carriers.

Local travel expert, Kim Reed, suggests that travelers plan early for traveling in 2026, book travel midweek, and provide various options on Google Flights to track and assess fares for the best deal. How other budget airlines fill the void will have an impact on the cost and the ability to travel in the coming months.

Starting strong with “Concrete Jungle” and closing with a thunderous “Dethrone,” the band played songs from their whole catalog. “Specter” struck like lightning, and three songs later, “Impose” shook the crowd. These were the band’s first live performances of these tracks. These cuts could land on their fourth record, but the release date is still under wraps. Their 2022 release, The Death of Peace of Mind, made up half the set.

“Specter” is available online, and the track’s video pairs actor Ryan Hurst with visuals crafted by Noah Sebastian. “Impose” marks a shift in sound. The song steps back from the band’s normal crushing intensity, taking an unexpected softer turn.

The current lineup brings Noah Sebastian’s vocals together with Joakim Karlsson’s guitar work, Nick Folio’s drumming, and Vinny Muccino’s bass lines. Bad Omens has crafted their sound since 2015. 

Fans got what they wanted, from the raw power of “Artificial Suicide” to the punch of “V.A.N.” The hour-long set mixed “The Drain” and “Just Pretend” with fresh material, never losing its bite. “It’s a great honor… I’d like to welcome onstage Jack White the third,” said IDLES frontman Joe Talbot during the performance. 

The festival took over Douglass Park for three straight days. Green Day, Blink-182, and Weezer were some of the headliners. On the final day, IDLES rocked their set just before the headliners. British group Soft Play also joined for the final song of their set, “Rottweiler.”

White also played “With a Little Help From My Friends” with Ringo Starr at Louisville’s Bourbon & Beyond Festival on September 13. The two stars had already played together at Nashville’s Ryman Theater earlier this year, blasting through “Matchbox” and “Don’t Pass Me By.”

Next up, White hits Brooklyn’s CBGB Festival. He’ll co-headline with Iggy Pop at Under the K Bridge Park on September 27.

The stringent rules target all smoking-related items – from traditional cigarettes to vapes and marijuana – across campus areas. Even parking lots or pathways weren’t exempt from the ban. NSU’s decision is in line with policies at 2,500 other U.S. colleges, following UNR’s 2015 decision and UNLV’s 2022 policy.

“Policies like this reduce smoking behavior among college students as documented in extensive research,” said Seseer Mou-Danha according to Las Vegas Weekly.

To aid this transition, the Southern Nevada Health District matched its previous UNLV grant, giving NSU $20,000. The money covers new signs, staff training, and materials to educate students about the changes.

CDC data indicates young adults between 21-24 lead in e-cigarette use at 15.5%. In Nevada, vaping increased slightly from 36.8% to 37.7% over the past year.

While middle schools observed a three percent rise in vaping since 2021, teen use decreased by five percent. Still, SNHD warns that youth vaping poses a public health risk.

CSN, with its large 30,000-student enrollment, might soon do the same. Student representatives support the idea as the approval process continues.

Rather than using strict penalties, NSU emphasizes education over punishment. First-time offenders receive help to quit. Only after multiple offenses do warnings lead to consequences.

A majority of Nevadans – about 61% – favor smoke-free campuses. Health experts consider these rules essential in combating tobacco companies, which spend $75 million annually targeting state residents.

The state’s prevention budget of $3.5 million is small compared to industry marketing. Officials cite this funding disparity when explaining why young people continue using nicotine despite the known dangers.

For the first time in two decades, the full Black Sabbath lineup took the stage. Weiss, who first shot Ozzy in ’81, watched it all unfold. “To see it now as part of his final farewell feels like the closing of a chapter I’ve been honoured to help tell through my lens,” he added.

Currently, the Vegas Loop operates underground at the Las Vegas Convention Center and at select resorts, with stops at the convention center, Resorts World Las Vegas, Westgate, and Encore. The service uses underground tunnels to move passengers between locations. The expansion will use tunnels and above-ground routes.

As part of its application, the company is seeking a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN). This would enable The Boring Company to offer airport transfers and specialized services utilizing Tesla vehicles. The proposed fare rates for the new service are set at $7, $12, and $14 per person, depending on distance and route.

Some local transportation operators have expressed concern about the potential impact of the expansion. “This, what we’re doing right here, is going to be a thing of the past,” Lori George, a rideshare driver, said.

“It would mess with me big time, because of the simple fact that now, usually during the summertime, we are popping,” George said. “Now, because of whatever’s going on internationally, it has slowed down tremendously here.”

“This right here could be an industry killer,” Cheryl Gibbons with zTrip said. “They are meter-less taxis. They will not be paying the $0.25 to the taxicab authority, and they are in direct competition with us operating above ground.”

The Nevada Transportation Authority will assess the application and make a decision on whether or not to authorize the initiative expansion through an STC application. Who says that the post-grunge and nu-metal genres don’t have heart? Even though these rock genres are known for having heavy riffing, drop D tuning, loud beats and an overall angry vibe, that doesn’t mean some of these bands, and their songs, don’t have heart. Not every emotional song can be just about love. There are so many human emotions to explore, and many of these bands do just that.

Staind got their start in the 1990s and had some help from one of the pioneers of nu-metal. “After a volatile disagreement with Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst over some of Staind’s early cover art, it seemed their big break had walked out the door,” the band explains on their website. “Fortunately, by the time Durst had witnessed Staind’s intense live show, he was ready to exchange phone numbers.” It’s a crazy story and very rock ‘n’ roll.

The rest is history, and Staind quickly became a huge success. While Staind is all about the heavy, their Break the Cycle album showed that they have a few soft spots. Massive hits like “It’s Been a While” and “Epiphany” were ballads but topped the rock charts.

Post-grunge, as a genre, doesn’t get enough attention when it comes to its ballads. Instead, the genre has topped the charts for decades with its aggression and angsty mood. As Yellow Brick says of the style of post-grunge music, “The genre often features powerful guitar riffs, catchy hooks, and introspective lyrics that touch on themes of personal struggle, introspection, and emotional vulnerability. The music tends to be more radio-friendly compared to its grunge predecessor, with a focus on melodic choruses and relatable songwriting.”

But let’s get into the genre’s softer music with Staind’s greatest ballads of all time.

Emotionally Heartfelt and Powerful Ballads from Staind

“It’s Been a While”

“It’s Been a While” is the song that made Staind a household name. Sure, the band had “Mudshovel” before it, but “It’s Been a While” was a ballad that shot to the top of the rock charts when it was released in 2001.

“It’s Been a While” was first released in March 2001, so the song is almost 25 years old. It was the lead single from Staind’s album Break the Cycle, and it was really an instant hit. The song even entered the top five on the Hot 100, which is super rare for any hard rock band, especially one in the early 2000s. It was more common in the 1980s, but not in more recent history. The song also ranked on multiple formats.

“The most successful tune in Staind’s discography still performs well to this day, as it stands out as a marker of that time in American history,” Forbes noted of the blockbuster song in a March 2025 piece. In that story, Forbes explained that the song was back on top of the charts earlier this year. “As it breaks back onto the Hard Rock Streaming Songs list at No. 19, ‘It’s Been a While’ reaches a new peak,” they said, adding that the “position now stands as the highest that the decades-old cut has ever climbed on the streaming-only roster in America.”

“Epiphany”

“Epiphany” was another massive hit for Staind that wasn’t a hard rock number. According to Genius, lead vocalist Aaron Lewis has “explained that this song is about Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD),” adding that “he has suffers from it but has never really done anything about it and chose to just allow it to manifest. The song tries to capture what it is like for Aaron with this disorder.”

Songfacts adds that Lewis explained, “‘Epiphany’ is just kind of another realization type of song, kind of an explanation” and that “it was an epiphany in the fact that I had heard the whole song in my head and just had to keep doing things until it was complete.” Songfacts also says that Lewis did “everything” on the track. “I programmed the drums, I did the keyboards for the strings of the chorus, played the guitar, played the bass and did the vocals,” Lewis added.

In a Facebook group, one fan of the band shared a story about the music video, noting, “Aaron Lewis said this was the most expensive video they ever did, and it makes him sick because it basically didn’t do (as well as) he had hoped.” The fan added that he’s “always found it to be one of their better songs, though.”

“So Far Away”

After the success of “It’s Been a While,” Staind repeated that run with “So Far Away” off 2003’s 14 Shades of Grey. The song marked the second single from their 14 Shades Of Grey album, following “Price To Play,” which is actually one of my favorite Staind songs of all time when it comes to their heavier numbers.

But, back to “So Far Away.” According to Songfacts, the song has Lewis “taking a step back to evaluate his life. All the struggles he went through and everything that seemed so important is now so far away.”

Genius adds that “So Far Away” is a track “of hope and uncertainty with beating addiction” and is “a song about moving on and not wanting to go back to that former life.” It’s so relatable, and that’s one reason why people love this song and Staind’s ballads, in general.

The song, according to Genius, was also the band’s second Top 40 hit and climbed to No. 24 on the Billboard 100. It crossed genres on the radio, too, and was played not just on rock and alternative stations but also on Top 40 and Hot AC, since it had such a widespread appeal.

I’ve interviewed both Aaron Lewis and Mike Mushok of Staind, and they’re both delightful people. It’s great to see them have this kind of success, and they keep going with more tour dates and new music. Staind’s most recent album in 2023’s Confessions of the Fallen, and they don’t show signs of slowing down.

The band played at Brooklyn’s Howard Gilman Opera House on Valentine’s Day 1995. Their stripped-down set featured songs from No Need to Argue, their breakthrough album. MTV aired the special two months later, capturing the raw magic of that night.

“We’d seen some of the biggest names in music like R.E.M., Pearl Jam, The Cure, and Nirvana do their Unplugged’s and were blown away to be following in their footsteps,” drummer Fergal Lawler mentioned, as reported by Antimusic.

In May, Garbage released Let All That We Imagine Be The Light, a critically acclaimed album with themes of love and empowerment. Manson said to NME, “I’ve never really written about love very much. I always think it’s been written about by people a thousand more talented than me. I’m just not a romantic person, really.” Despite industry pushback, fans stuck by them. “At times in the music industry, they’ve told us we’re old, we’re over, nobody’s interested. And then you lot came along. You were like, ‘get behind us, Satan’. And we won’t forget it,” Manson added.

These agreements allow employees to report tips based on a predetermined rate instead of accounting for each and every tip, which helps alleviate some of the burden that employees in high-volume establishments, like casinos, typically have when accounting for tips.

Due to the large number of casino workers in Nevada, they are likely to benefit the most from the modified policy. There are tens of thousands of employees in the state who are employed in the gaming industry and depend on tips for a bulk of their income; thus, the ‘tips’ from casino chips will have a large impact on how they file their taxes.

The guidance also clarifies exclusions. Certain payments, such as meals, event tickets, most digital assets, and automatic service charges — unless customers have the option to opt out — will not be classified as tips under this policy.

“Functionally, for employees, there is no distinction between auto-gratuity and a tip, and inclusion of this income as eligible will prevent arbitrary distinctions between tip practices that would disadvantage workers based solely on the business model of their employer,” the lawmakers wrote in their August letter.

The event attracted nearly $900 million in visitor spending and generated an estimated 330,000 visitors. The total economic benefit was close to a $1 billion price tag. The Kansas City Chiefs won a memorable game against the San Francisco 49ers, and the most significant highlight after the game occurred when Travis Kelce jokingly performed a low-key version of the Elvis press song “Viva Las Vegas,” adding to the entertainment tradition in Las Vegas.

A highlight of the season begins this coming Saturday, Sept. 27, with the launch of “Movies on the Green,” an outdoor film series at Green Valley Ranch. The screenings will run every Saturday through Oct. 25, featuring popular films such as “Guardians of The Galaxy,” “Beetlejuice,” “Hocus Pocus,” “Haunted Mansion (2023),” and “Halloweentown.” Movies begin at sunset, with seating available from 6 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, towels, or camping chairs to enjoy the screenings in comfort. This free event is open to the public, with Green Valley Ranch serving as the venue.

Las Vegas is also hosting a variety of other events in the coming weeks. Located inside a repurposed warehouse in the Area15 District, Universal Horror Unleashed brings together iconic horror franchises and original monstrous creations. Visitors can navigate through immersive experiences with live actors, intricate sets, and horrifying experiences, along with themed food, drinks, and exclusive merchandise.

Guests will be able to navigate through four signature haunted seek houses designed to terrify and deliver nightmares. These include the Universal Monsters, The Exorcist: Believer, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Scarecrow: The Reaping. Each house offers a distinct and intense experience, from classic monster encounters to modern cinematic horror.

Skiba stepped up for “Bored to Death.” The song choice made sense, as he wrote it during his time with the group. This marks his second appearance with the band this year. Back in February, he showed up at their LA benefit show for wildfire relief. When Egerton took the stage, the band launched into “Hope,” a Descendents track they started playing again last month. 

They played a total of 21 tracks, old hits mixed with new material. They included crowd favorites like “The Rock Show”,  “First Date”, and “All the Small Things”, which turned into a massive sing-along.

That same day, Skiba’s main band, Alkaline Trio, also hit the stage. They played their Maybe I’ll Catch Fire album in its entirety. Fans were happy to hear songs like “Keep ‘Em Coming,” “Sleepyhead,” and “5-3-10-4,” which hadn’t been played live since 2015.

Working with music writer Jason Pettigrew, Zummo breaks from typical rock star tales. “A lot of musicians write books to share their stories, from their creative lives to their crazy tour tales to more scandalous moments. This is not that book,” Zummo said, according to Idobi.

The book’s start came at a 2023 School of Rock Workshop. Fresh from the stage with Sum 41 and The Offspring, Zummo met Pettigrew at House of Vans Chicago. A quick chat turned into the book’s opening pages.

The text starts with words from Dhani Harrison. Inside, readers will find talks with Motley Crüe’s Tommy Lee, Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley, and the mind behind Vans Warped Tour, Kevin Lyman.

Zummo spoke about his goals: “From the beginning, my mission was seeing how these workshop events were saving lives first-hand, motivating and inspiring people.” He added, “I do five to seven events a year—a small amount compared to the sheer size of the world. I want to be able to have this message be around the world.”

Music will join the written word. An EP called Feels drops on October 24, and it’s the soundtrack for the memoir. Fans can hear the first song, “thank u (feat. Sorry x),” on September 26.

“We deeply regret these failures and recognize the impact the failures had on affected customers,” the utility stated in its Thursday filing, adding that it is “committed to taking the steps necessary to regaining public trust.”

The company confirmed it will retroactively issue refunds dating back to June 23, 2017, including interest. Current customers will receive bill credits, while former customers will be mailed refund checks.

The overbillings that continued into 2025 were the result of misclassifying approximately 42,800 multifamily housing units as single-family houses. This error affected approximately 60,000 customers and caused more than $17 million to be overbilled from 2017 through 2024. NV Energy supplies electricity to more than 1.4 million customers and natural gas to 187,000 customers in Nevada.

The misclassification originated in 2002 when the multifamily rate schedule was first introduced. It was not discovered until January 2024, when a customer reported billing issues, prompting a broader internal review. The company also acknowledged the use of incorrect property data and the application of a rule that capped refunds at six months, which it now seeks to correct.

“We regret the impact this error has caused our customers,” Brandon Barkhuff, President and CEO of NV Energy, said in a press release. “It’s important that we learn from this mistake and seek continuous improvement. We are committed to ensuring our systems and processes reflect the accuracy and accountability moving forward and are implementing better procedures and controls to prevent this from happening again.”

The company plans to hire a third-party firm to review its corrective actions independently and will not seek reimbursement from customers who underpaid because of the error. It will also hold a public workshop on Oct. 14 to discuss the issue and planned solutions.

The controversy arose just before the resignation of former CEO Doug Cannon. NV Energy has pledged to implement new internal protocols for rate changes, property notifications, and residence classification verification to prevent future errors. The utility’s shareholders will absorb the costs of the refunds.

Freddy Caseres, owner of Freddy’s Reptiles, said his shop has been repeatedly vandalized, resulting in over $3,000 in damages and the loss of several animals.

“Dumping stuff, throwing stuff at my window, and actually vandalizing the store. The last incident, he actually broke the glass, and unfortunately, it was in December, and all the cold air came in, and unfortunately, 4-5 of my animals passed,” Caseres said. “I had to go out of my own pocket to pay for everything. Insurance did not even cover anything.”

The new program offers up to $5,000 per business to fund upgrades like fencing, security cameras, lighting, locks, shatter-proof glass, and HVAC security enclosures. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Eligible businesses must be brick-and-mortar establishments located downtown or along specific corridors, including Charleston, Sahara, Martin L. King Jr. Blvd, and Eastern Ave. Casinos, liquor stores, tattoo shops, and convenience stores are excluded.

“It’s a bit violating when someone comes into a place you’ve created,” a representative from Dig It! Coffee Co. said.

Caseres plans to apply for the grant to replace his broken window and strengthen security at his shop. The initiative is designed to prevent future incidents and support business owners facing financial strain due to crime.

“Essentially, get them safe and secure before something bad happens,” Dina Babsky from the City of Las Vegas said.

The set list included a total of four fresh songs from Who Is The Sky?: “Don’t Be Like That,” “I Met the Buddha at a Downtown Party,” “My Apartment Is My Friend,” plus a track that’s still unnamed. Byrne also covered Paramore’s “Hard Times.”

“Independence Day” from 1989’s Rei Momo album also made its comeback after three decades. The night’s surprises kept coming with “Strange Overtones,” a gem from his 2008 work with Brian Eno.

This year marks 50 years of Talking Heads, celebrated by a new “Psycho Killer” video starring Saoirse Ronan. “This video makes the song better,” the band shared with Rolling Stone. “We love what this video is not — it’s not literal, creepy, bloody, physically violent or obvious.”

My Chemical Romance announced the new tour dates on Monday, September 22, and released a trailer for the tour, which you can watch below. Tickets for all new dates go on sale starting Friday, Sept. 26, at noon local time.

The U.K. and European leg of The Black Parade 2026 will set off on June 30 in Liverpool and wrap up on July 18 in Madrid. They’ve also added a third night to their stint at London’s Wembley Stadium for July 8, so they’ll be playing three nights at that venue.

The tour’s North American leg will resume on August 9 at New York City’s Citi Field and visit Nashville; Washington, D.C.; Detroit; Minneapolis; Denver; San Diego; Phoenix; San Antonio; and three dates in Los Angeles. Special guests for the U.S. shows vary, but they include Franz Ferdinand, Pierce The Veil, Modest Mouse, Iggy Pop, Sleater-Kinney, The Breeders, Babymetal, Jimmy Eat World and The Mars Volta.

This was their first U.S. show since the album topped Billboard’s 200 chart in May. “I love it because all these people — I don’t know how many — but, I heard chatter about people like, ‘Sleep Token headlining?'” Brian ‘Head’ Welch told Louder Sound. 

“Some people were saying they’re so young to be able to headline so quick. And they came with that stage? Shut everybody up.” 

The band members, known as Vessel, II, III, IV, and Espera, stuck mainly to tracks from Even in Arcadia and their 2023 work Take Me Back to Eden. “Look to Windward” kicked off the night. The set list also included hits like “Emergence,” “Caramel,” and “Damocles.” 

After three years, they brought back “Thread the Needle” from their 2016 EP, One. Even in Arcadia shot the band to new heights this year. The record claimed the top spot in 11 nations, including the U.S., Austria, Britain, and Germany. 

Australian band Thornhill starts each night of the tour, which runs until October 11. The next stop hits Orlando’s Kia Center tonight. The tour schedule includes stops at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center, and LA’s Crypto.com Arena.

“I’d always written music with my brothers, so there are all sorts of particular complexities in that, but I’ve never worked like this before,” said Kiszka to Kerrang!. Nick Pini adds depth on bass and keys while Mikey Sorbello plays drums. The music took shape at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in Bath, with Dave Cobb at the controls.

Magic struck when Kiszka and Turpin met at Kiszka’s place in East Nashville. Three days of intense work birthed seven songs, including “Feels Like Gold,” “Raider,” and the haunting “Skyway Drifter.”

Arena crowds got an early taste during recent Greta Van Fleet shows. “We’d be on as the first band of three in an arena that might be 12,000-capacity. … The response was so overwhelming that by set two, they seemed to be singing back 75 percent of the songs,” Kiszka said.

The artists’ first collaboration came when Kiszka added guitar work to Ida Mae’s 2021 release, “Click Click Domino.” 

“If we do something, I think it’s going to be a little serious, and we should lean into it,” Turpin told Kiszka when discussing the project, according to Nashville Scene. Turpin also emphasized the importance of capturing a spontaneous, live feel in recordings.

A simple text mistake gave birth to the band’s name. When Kiszka tried typing “Marauder,” his fingers slipped to spell “Mirador,” a word for a lookout tower. The mistake stuck, matching their musical aims.

Dead Sara’s former frontwoman, Emily Armstrong, is now at the mic, performing with Mike Shinoda, Joe Hahn, and Dave Farrell. Alex Feder now plays guitar in Brad Delson’s spot, while Colin Brittain plays the drums instead of Rob Bourdon.

“I feel like that was really loud, like you really sang that one,” Shinoda told the crowd, according to RIFF Magazine.

The circular stage put musicians at the heart of the action. Massive screens, bright lights, and laser beams helped liven up the atmosphere. Even fans in the highest seats got an up-close view of the show.

They played fresh tracks from their 2024 album From Zero, as well as old hits. The band surprised fans last fall by announcing their return and bringing Armstrong into the mix. 

During hits like “Numb” and “In the End,” Armstrong stepped back as fans sang the words. Shinoda switched between singing, playing guitar, and playing keys all night. His solo spot included tracks from his Fort Minor project, “Where’d You Go” and “Remember the Name”.

Next stops on the tour include Sacramento, Portland, and Vancouver. Then the band flies south to rock Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Chile, and Brazil. The final show is in Brasilia on November 11.

Daelyn Woods, owner of Woods Family Sandwiches, attended her first expo and expressed excitement about sharing her business with the community. “I think of us like the Cheers of sandwich shops; we know everyone’s name,” she said. “We slice everything fresh here,” she said. “I still don’t think our prices are higher than the big-name sandwich shops, where I don’t even want to compare us.”

Woods shared her journey of starting her company without borrowing money or dipping into savings, bringing light to challenges that many small business owners face. “I went in here with nothing. I didn’t take a loan, I didn’t have any money. It was very, very tough throughout the way,” she said. “It’s very difficult as a small business, but without them, I couldn’t do it.”

According to Woods, the expo has already proved worthwhile in terms of networking and generating new orders and connections. It also served as a resource for future entrepreneurs learning how to start and build a new venture within their community.

A countdown on the Visit Las Vegas website is building anticipation and encouraging visitors to explore the variety of offers that will be revealed at the launch. Mayor Shelley Berkley said, “People are not coming to the United States. We have a rather large market with the Canadians, and it’s gone from a faucet to a drip,” and added that it was the “same thing in Mexico,” as quoted in the Irish Star report.

Abuela’s Tacos, a staple in the East Las Vegas neighborhood for over 10 years, had gone through an unusual slowdown this summer. “I don’t know what happened, from June and July, it just died down, like the most percentage lowest I’ve ever seen it,” Valdes said.

“When we were slow for the first time in 14 years, I had to cut back hours. I never had to do that, and now they’re working extra hours, so it’s like been a huge, huge blessing,” Valdes said.

Thanks to Rivas’s generosity, the event had a festive vibe that respected Mexican culture and boosted the morale of staff and customers. Valdes shared the impact of the giveaway for her team and business, while mentioning that Rivas personally purchased hundreds of taco plates because he wanted to support some local businesses.

“Think it’s super cool to support a local small business and someone that’s, I guess, right now struggling during these times,” Rivas said. “So, if it cost me $100,000 to feed a vast majority of the community for some free tacos and support a small local business, I think it’s all worth it in my eyes.”

The owner hopes the community continues to back Abuela’s Tacos in the future. The album is set for release on Oct. 10. He emphasized the energy and connection of those performances, promising fans that the new run will be just as electric.

The project focuses on the segment between Sunset Road intersection and the 215 Beltway. Enhancements suggested in the project include the extension of the widening of the northbound Airport Connector lane from three lanes to four lanes. The Sunset Road intersection will additionally include a new lane. Updated street and bridge lighting throughout the entire corridor will also improve visibility as well as minimize safety concerns for drivers and commuters.

Public feedback has highlighted ongoing safety issues in the area, particularly inside the Airport Connector tunnels. One local taxi driver noted, “The airport tunnel needs a lighting upgrade, too. I’m a taxi driver here in town. I’ve witnessed and experienced a lot of dangerous situations in the airport tunnel due to low visibility. The tunnel is actually safer at night than it is during the day due to the insufficient lighting.”

Speeding has also been a significant concern. “The speed limit is never enforced,” said UNLV student Jacob Panning. “If you’re going 35 miles per hour, you’re practically getting run over. It’s definitely a battle in there, but I’ve never had an incident, so knock on wood.”

Lighting inside the Airport Connector tunnels is currently managed by the Clark County Department of Aviation. “At this time, there are no additional airport-initiated projects scheduled for the Airport Connector tunnels, but if future projects do come up, we will provide updates as they become available.”

While construction is expected to cause some inconvenience over the next two years, county officials believe these improvements will enhance both traffic safety and efficiency for commuters, visitors, and airport travelers.

A 2023 agreement with Cornell’s estate made this album possible. This deal gave the band rights to use Cornell’s final recordings, as reported by Rolling Stone.

The studio work stirs deep feelings. Cameron opened up, “Hearing (Cornell’s) voice on these powerful hard rock songs is the most empowering thing in the world for me. Then I listen to his voice soloed up when I’m working on stuff, or if Kim or Ben is working on something, and it all comes back to the fact that he’s not with us and he left us in a way that has so many questions. It’s been gut-wrenching but at the same time very empowering,” he told Billboard.

Guitarist Kim Thayil spoke about finishing what they started. “Our objective and goal was always to complete that,” he mentioned in a Rolling Stone interview.

This is the band’s first new music since King Animal dropped in 2012. Recording began in 2015 but stopped when Cornell died in May 2017.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will welcome Soundgarden on November 8 in Los Angeles. Disney+ will stream the event live.

With twelve tracks, this release marks the first without Brian Burkheiser’s vocals after twelve years. Vanlerberghe now covers both melodic and intense vocal styles.

“This whole record process was all not only finding the next sound and era of I Prevail but it was also finding my voice,” Vanlerberghe said. “Singing is mostly confidence.”

Steve Menoian plays lead guitar with Dylan Bowman on rhythm and backup vocals. Gabe Helguera handles the drums. Their Summer of Loud tour had them join forces with Parkway Drive, Killswitch Engage, and Beartooth.

According to AgHires, Americans purchase a whopping 365 million pounds of turkey the week of Thanksgiving, and those are usually whole turkeys.
