XBMCbuntu 13.04 with XBMC Frodo 12.2 (nvidia only)

As requested by some users. Here’s a first image based on Ubuntu 13.04 with XBMC Frodo 12.2. This image is an Nvidia and Intel only. Within 13.04 the AMD drivers are broken. Please use at your own risk!

XBMC 12.2 released

XBMC 12.2 has been released. The following changes were made between XBMC 12.1 and XBMC 12.2.

Fixed infinite loop on addon dependencies, resolves crashing problem that arrose immediately post 12.1 launch
Numerous UPnP fixes
Memory leak fixed when XBMC is minimized
Various Raspberry Pi playback fixes and software codec support
Fixed OSX audio mixing
Fixed some audio-related crashes in Linux builds
AirPlay fixes
Bluray folder resume-bookmarks now work
Ability to scan for new content on file folders has been reimplemented
Language updates from Transifex

XBMCbuntu should upgrade by using the “sudo apt-get update” command followed by “sudo apt-get upgrade”.

XBMC 12.2, FFmpeg 1.2 and Dirty regions for fullscreen video

Here’s a short update on what’s going on at this moment within the XBMC scene. XBMC 12.2 pre-testing has been started a fey days a ago. 12.2 will feature a even more stable XBMC Frodo. More info here: http://xbmc.org/natethomas/2013/04/09/xbmc-12-2pre-testing/

Within the development branch (XBMC 13) some interesting things are happening. Support for FFmpeg 1.2 has been merged lately which gives XBMC support for even more codecs and so on. Another major improvement is also in queue to enable Dirty regions rendering for fullscreen video. Dirty regions is now only playing part withing the menu section of XBMC. Dirty regions supprt for fullscreen video should improve the performance quite a lot. The developer FernetMenta, who created this new freature, is also working on XVBA (AMD Fusion) rendering support for XBMC 13. Hopefully this will enter the XBMC mainline also real soon.

OpenELEC 3.0.0

OpenElec 3.0.0 has been released. OpenElec is a very small Linux system built around XBMC. Version 3.0.0 features XBMC 12.1 along many other improvements. Here’s a summary:

OpenELEC 3.0.0 incorporates XBMC 12.1 with support for NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel solutions, along with a dedicated Raspberry Pi build. In addition to XBMC 12.1 and the Raspberry Pi port, 3.0.0 brings stable AMD XVBA video decoding, along with many other stability improvements and other improvements across the entire platform.

XBMC 12.1

As expected, XBMC 12.1 has been released with many bugfixes. This is a complete list:

XBMC now supports using OSX’s default output device for audio as well as hardware decoding with Intel GPUs in OSX
XBMC no longer hogs audio for Linux and on resume audio will continue to work in Linux
Full iPhone 5 resolution is now enabled
Volume buttons on Android devices now control Android volume, rather than XBMC volume
Volume buttons on OSX devices once again control OSX volume, rather than XBMC volume
Player optimization on the Raspberry Pi, including more efficient playback, better subtitle support, and many crash fixes
iOS 6 support on the AppleTV 2.
XBMC does not crash when listed on the AppleTV top shelf
Added support for additional Xbox 360 controller types
Broader and more intelligent support for CEC devices
Fixed problems with several addons due to broken binary read/write in our python interface
Language fixes, including 7 new languages: Albanian, Burmese, Malay, Persian (Iran), Tamil (India), Uzbek, Vietnamese
AirPlay fixes, including making discovery of XBMC more reliable on OSX
Numerous crashing and stability fixes across all platforms

XBMC running on the Ouya

XBMC ported to Wayland

XBMC 12.1 to be released soon

XBMC Frodo 12.1 will be released soon. XBMC 12.1 will feature mainly AudioEngine fixes, such as high cpu fixes, device detection fixes and suspend/resume issues. XBMC 12.1 will also feature support for iOS6.

XBMC 12.0 – Frodo final released

Looks like the developers finally found a solution for the Audio suspend/resume function. This is the last major blocking defect for XBMC 12 Frodo final. I’ll keep you posted about the progress. Here’s the related defect in more detail:
