ICM Registry, who operate the registry for the .XXX Sponsored Top-level Domain (sTLD) for the “adult entertainment community” have announced they have made further applications to ICANN for additional adult-themed sTLDs, specifically .SEX, .PORN and .ADULT.

“ICM Registry has worked for more than a decade to create .XXX which has become a globally accepted and responsible place for adult online entertainment to thrive in an easily recognizable self-regulated environment,” - said Stuart Lawley, CEO of ICM Registry.

“We are dedicated to protecting interested stakeholders by providing the latest technology and the best domains which is why we created the .XXX TLD. We chose to submit applications for additional TLDs to spare .XXX participants from needless expense and to ensure the TLDs will be run in the same trustworthy and appropriate ways that .XXX is today.”

Interestingly the ICM Registry is offering a “grandfathering” clause should they be awarded the new TLDs which means that they will automatically reserve matching domains for no additional fee for registrants who already hold the .XXX equivalent and registrants will be able to choose to do nothing and the matching domains will be permanently reserved under the new TLDs. However if registrants wish to register the new domains for use then there will be a “nominal” fee.

This proves an interesting promise from the registry and will carry a lot of favour with existing .XXX domain holders and brands who wish to protect their names from association from adult content, many will see this as a highly preferable situation as it is likely, should another company be awarded .SEX, .PORN and/or .ADULT brands will be required to again pay to protect their names from association.

The registry is said to have invested just under two million dollars in the application process so as to “support our existing customers” and say the grandfathering clause demonstrates their commitment to the adult entertainment industry.

Many are still dubious over the benefits of a dedicated “adult” TLD as a means of categorising websites, mostly because it is unlikely adult websites, many of who are against these new Adult-only TLDs, will migrate their businesses to new domains and risk the loss in traffic & users which would be associated.

What do you think? Are TLDs specifically for adult content a good thing? Will they actually help the filtering process to help those who do not wish to view adult content to avoid it or is it simply not going to work? Share your views in the comments below.

To ensure the up most security on our servers we operate strict firewalls on all our servers to help protect our clients sites, such as automatically blocking users who incur too many login failures.

Because of this legitimate customers can sometimes find themselves blocked and unable to access the server. Until now clients have needed to contact the support desk to have the blocks removed, which is why we have now developed the “Firewall Unblocker” tool within the client area.

The firewall unblocker tool enables clients to simply login and view any blocks which might be in effect on their current IP address and remove them.

You can find a link to the Firewall Unblocker page on the right hand side menu in your client area:

Here you will find all the servers which you have services on with details of any blocks which might be in effect for your current IP address:

To remove blocks, simply click the “UNBLOCK ME NOW” link and the block will be removed from the firewall within 1 – 5 minutes.

We welcome any comments or questions regarding this, simply leave a comment below, tweet us @xdnet, comment on facebook or simply get in touch with support [at] xdnet.co.uk and we’ll be happy to help.

All GlobalSign branded SSL Certificates (excludes AlphaSSL) issued on and after 22nd December 2011 will start benefitting from FREE Malware Monitoring on their websites.

If you have a GlobalSign SSL Certificate from XDnet your site will benefit from daily HackAlert scans which can identify any pages infected by drive-by downloads and provide alarms for “zero-day” malware threats hidden in your websites, protecting you and your users from the damaging effects of malware.

If malware is detected by HackAlert it will instantly email you with details, including the offending code snippet of the malware so you can quickly remove it from your website.

Every day thousands of websites are hacked and used to distribute malware to the websites visitors. Such malware is developed to compromise PCs and spread viruses, hijack computers or steal personal information.

Unless remedied quickly, an infected website will quickly be flagged or blacklisted by Google for hosting malicious content, you can expect traffic to your site to drop significantly when potential customers see worrying warnings about your website potentially harming their computers.

HackAlert acts as an early warning system against zero-day attacks. By passively monitoring your website and identifying breaches quickly – giving you time to remove malicious code before too much damage is caused.

Malware left on your site can cause untold damage to your brand and permanently associate your brand/site with malware and untrusted with users and search engines. Sites found to be hosting malware or malicious code may also be suspended by XDnet Web Services until the offending items are removed.

We at XDnet want to do our part, and are pledging to donate 50% of ALL new Web Hosting orders received between the 18th November and 25th November inclusive.

It’s that simple, so why not order your hosting today and help a wonderful cause at the same time?

The amount which will be donated will be 50% of the Web Hosting order, this means if you purchase the Advanced package on monthly basis we will donate £3.50. If you purcase the Advanced package on a yearly basis we will donate £35.00 to Children in Need from your order.

Many Thanks,

This means that users will be able to register .UK domains from between 1 year and 10 years enabling users more flexibility in their registrations as they can renew for longer without needing to worry about renewals.

What does this mean for .UK ?

This will have no impact on current registrations, it just means you will have the option to renew domains for up to 10 years come renewal.

XDnet plans to fully support this change in May and will announce pricing details closer to the time.

The Sunrise phase of the new .XXX domain launch came to a close on 28th October, and we will soon be moving onto the next phase of the launch process – Landrush.

Landrush kicks off on 8th November

Landrush provides a limited-time opportunity for those who didn’t qualify for Sunrise A, but still want to grab an awesome .XXX domain before General Availability.

Between 8th November and 25th November 2011 members of the adult Sponsored Community may apply for .XXX domains of their choice.

Unlike Sunrise there are no trademark or pre-ownership requirements for registrations made during landrush, however applicants must be part of the adult Sponsored Community to qualify.

Not first come, first served.

Unlike General Availability if there are multiple applications for the same domain during Landrush, the domain then goes into an auction process where applicants can bid against each other for the domain.

If you’d like to submit an application for a .XXX domain during Landrush please get in touch with XDnet support who can help you with this process and help you get an awesome new domain.
