自拍课＋ Jacky's Gig!

昨天晚上跟 Dear Dear 去看 Jacky 的表演。因为之前有事，所以有点赶。还好，虽然迟到了一点点，但并没有错过他的演出。之前的乐队还在表演的时候，Dear Dear 跟我到外面去，Dear Dear 还给我上了一堂“自拍”课！

我的自拍一向很烂，不是没有头，就是半张脸；要不就是两个人拍的时候，只拍到一张脸…咳… 这次Dear Dear 帮我把相机的角度摆好，终于……

咦？拍到了！！！

OK…这次自己摆….

呃…拍到了… 可是上面太多空位了….(而且是很难看的一张照片～～)

相机再往下压一点～～

OK! 呃… 这次旁边好像又太多空位了！

开始没耐性了…再试最后一次！

还是不行！！

《花木兰》Hua Mulan Movie Preview 23-11-2009 (Review)

Thanks to omy.sg for the invite to the preview of 《花木兰》! I’m quite a movie addict so nothing beats a night out watching a great film!

Dear Dear went to the preview with me since omy.sg has generously provided a pair of tickets!

All right! On to the movie review… I didn’t take very long to decide on what to include in my little review, but I took really really long to decide on what language to write it in – English or Chinese.

《花木兰》

Most of us know the Mulan story about how a girl goes to war in place of her old and weak father, and how she won battles and killed enemies for her country. It is a well-known story about filial piety and loyalty to the country, so one wonders, before watching the film, how this movie can be interesting, and provide us a story from a different angle.

The director successfully achieved it by re-telling the story with many elements of love and struggle. The story follows《木兰辞》closely but also led the audience to see the underlying struggles of Mulan (Vicki Zhao) as she leads a soldier’s life, the love that was developed between Mulan and Wentai (Chen Kun) and the brotherly love that was established among her men. The director has presented the story to us in a more human and personal manner, allowing us to see Mulan not just as a war hero, but also a human with feelings.

Anti-war sentiments were clear in this film as the brutality and cruelty of war were clearly depicted. Because of war, families were torn apart. The character Xiucai who painted his supposed wife on a piece of wood and the words he said before his death presented the pain of separation from close ones vehemently. Nobody wants war, not even the soldiers. Nobody wants to kill, quoting Mulan, who said to Wentai, “你不是害怕，不是不敢，你是不愿意。”The decision of going to war lies on the rulers, never the people, never the soldiers, which reminded me of the Tom Cruise movie “Valkyrie”. In this film, Mendu’s people have decided to retreat back to their land, but it was Mendu (Hu Jun) who could not take a lying down and decided to go on with the war. People yearns for peace, it’s the ambition of the rulers that kills so many in a war.

Wentai mentions to Mulan that he would do anything, even if it takes his life to have the war ended. He did what he could to stop the war eventually (I’ll try not to give away the story ending… :P), placing country above self. Same for Mulan, who in the last scene encouraged Wentai to make the right decision.

Personally, I felt that the front parts of the movie were too fast paced and seemed to be focused just on story-telling and bringing the audience through the plot, not allowing any room for the intricate development of the story or the characters. Of course, I understand that the duration of the movie is not 987 hours so there are constrains, haha, but I still felt that it was a tad too fast. For example, one or two more scenes could have been given to Xiaohu (Fang Zu Ming) and Wu Gui ( Li Jiu Zhe) to show the change of their relationship from enemies to friends. This would make the scene where Wu Gui ignores Mulan’s orders and tried to save Xiaohu, much more powerful.

I like the little humors weaved into the film, especially by Xiaohu and Wugui, who were no doubt important characters in the film, but provided necessary comic relief at times. As for the part played by Vitas, initially I thought that it seemed more like a role tailored just to include him in the movie. With or without him, there wouldn’t be much of a difference, though I still went, “Hey! That’s Vitas!” But on closer look, perhaps the character serves to contrast Mendu’s father’s character with Mendu, and also, the character plays a part in the final assassination as well Oh, and the young Mulan, if you look closely, you would realized that it was played by the girl who played Stephen Chow’s son in CJ7!

Actually, my favourite was the whole part where Xiaohu sacrificed himself. I would label it very much the climax of the whole movie. The whole portrayal of that scene, together with the war song that the Wei soldiers were singing brings out really strong emotions and ties up all the themes of love, sacrifice and war.

I love the end of the year rainy and cool weather, or i should say its my favourite time of the year! I never liked the blazing hot sun... Its raining today and the breeze is cooling and i've got nothing to do at home... its paradise isn't it? Dear just left home for work so its just Kele and me at home and with so much time on my hands...here i am...blogging! heheh... and its just some backdated events and photos!

Reanne and Xiuping's Birthday

Its been near 10 years since our JC days and i'm so glad that this group of us are still meeting up once in every few months. And, not all of us are from the same JC... we met when we were in our first 3 months where all of us were in CJC. Our short 3 months of schooling life together bounded us together for the next ten years,and more to come.

All these gatherings and meetings wouldn't have been possible without Liqing, who was the one who organizes all our little meetings and birthday celebrations. Our university days were easier for her but once everyone stepped into the working life, it has been very tough to find a common day for us to meet but Liqing will always try her best and pre-book us at least one month in advance for our meet-ups. Thanks Qing! Without you i'm sure we wouldn't be so close!

Ivy's Birthday

Went late for Ivy's birthday celebration as i went to meet Liqing and gang. She rented a service apartment and had a little party there. I never knew we could rent service apartments! I always thought chalets and hotels were the only options if we needed a getaway! The place was beautifully furnished and looked very much like a hotel suite!

We played games that came from the variety show 天才冲冲冲. It was like charades, but the person doing the actions had to listen to a song he or she chose, and do the actions of the lyrics...in the same tempo as the song. Tough job, not as easy as it sounds! We were split into 2 teams and every time one team guesses correctly, the other team had to down beer. If the team didn't get the correct answer, they had to down the beer themselves. So poor dear dear had to drink 2 shares of beer when our team lost. Why? He was drinking for me. I can't take alcohol. Hahaha...

I remember the Christmas play I performed in when I was in primary school and it was about Ebenezer Scrooge too! I played a little fairy showing Scrooge what Christmas should be about and how he should learn to share... That was such a long time ago but this movie is certainly going to bring back fond memories! This Christmas season, let's re-visit this classic tale in 3D!

生病了

星期一回到家的时候觉得不对劲，
一直觉得很冷，又一直打喷嚏。
坐在沙发上看电视，
越来越不舒服，
摸一摸额头，
啊～～发烧了....

这两天就留在家里休息，
哪里都没去。
Dear Dear 很体贴地帮我买饭，
很有耐心地照顾我，
喔...病了都不会觉得太辛苦，呵呵～～

现在烧退了，
只是还是有点头晕，
还是早点睡吧！

今天有稀客到访喔！
心丽经过我家附近，

我们难得见面，

后青春期的诗

一个十年就这样悄悄地，不知不觉地过去了。

不是没有想念学生时代的朋友，

只是很多时候找不到一个去联络大家的理由。

如果不是美珊婚礼的时候让大家再次见面，

说好一定出来聚一聚，

可能又要等上多一个十年才会在某个地方碰上。

Dear Dear 跟我说很多时候大家碰到都会说“有空出来meet-up!”，

可是往往都好像是场面话，

也没有人会去办聚会。

这次我主动了喔，

婚礼那天约好的那几个，

一定要出来聚一聚！

这个聚会超容易搞的！

Facebook send 了个 message 给大家，

他们的回应都超快的。

更何况，连日期时间都不用改。

聚会的时候 Brian 说了一句很逗的话，

“你们全部都没有 life 的啊！一叫就来！”

以前麻木地过了很多年。伟强骂了我一千一万次我都听不进去。不管是什么事，我总是觉得听不到看不到感觉不到是好事。就算听得到看得到感觉得到我也不会有什么反应。不在乎就没有要求，没有埋怨，没有争执。这样的生活真的不错。后来可能压抑太久的情绪爆发了出来，自己选择了用相反的方式生活，才发现我是有血有肉的。但是，同个时候，争执与不愉快就会出现。解决得了，加分。大家对于任何事都更了解。解决不了，完蛋。

Anyway...

我知道现在已经是半夜三点半了，但是我其实刚刚去了一趟 NTUC (我家这里的NTUC 是开24小时的喔～～）。买了牙刷、漂白水、toilet brush 还有一个拖把的“头”，就是那个毛毛的，可以更换的那里...喔！还真的不知道那个叫什么... 我原本想去买咖啡的。我最爱的 Cafe 21 又没有货了！Arghh...结果，在超市绕啊绕啊，买了本来没有想要买的一堆东西。As the saying goes... never leave a woman alone in a supermarket.... haiz...

在路上帮了一个人，感觉很不错！

Sherene’s Wedding

Dearest Sherene got married! I love attending weddings. It’s always wonderful to see your friends now happy and blissful.

I haven’t seen Ivy since Yingwei’s wedding and she told me her turn is coming! Gong xi loh!

Then we spotted Yuan Xing in the crowd and quickly called out to him!

Shortly after we found our table and sat down, a familiar figure joined us at our table. Our NIE lecturer—胡月宝老师! And we all greeted her “老师！”见到她很开心，毕竟她是我最尊重的老师之一！可是，跟她同桌还是感觉有一点 stress….

A very touching moment here… Sherene’s hubby knew it was her dream to be a princess and he actually made props (try very hard to spot the castle behind the bride!) and sang her a song. Sherene cries very easily, not to mention at that very very touching moment! I started to tear too… then, I realized Pauline was tearing too. hahah…
Pauline and I are like 2 mummies who are marrying off our daughter.. hahaha!

These two came late and apparently Qingxian told us she waited one hour for Yipei sweetie…oops…

We need a hairstyle revamp…

Dear Dear and I managed to squeeze out a little time in between our busy schedule this week to FINALLY do something about our hair. He chopped off his long hair for his reservist and the cut wasn’t very good so he need to go back to his stylist to do some ‘repair’ work. hahah… For my case, I haven’t cut my hair for tooooo long. The last time I cut was at the hair show I did with Gen, so it was at least half a year ago! Gosh… Anyway, both of us wanted to colour our hair too!

His hair miraculously turned from a rich black to yellow! Eeks!

I didn’t have to bleach. Either because the colour I chose was not as light as the colour he chose, or my hair is very fine so it takes in colour easily… No idea… But I was glad im spared that bleaching process. If not, im going to turn into a blonde when the colour fades off. o_0

Meisan’s Wedding!

Meishan was my JC classmate and NUS classmate and she’s now Mrs Wang already! We rarely got chances to meet up since everyone is so busy with work and family. So weddings are really wonderful times to witness your buddies finding happiness and also catching up with old friends!

Happy Children's Day!

I'm so used to sleeping at 4 or 5 am in the morning since i stopped teaching and was worried that I would not be able to wake up early today. Promised the children to go back to school to visit them on Children's Day celebration so I purposely went to bed early yesterday night. Haha... Just nice, Dear Dear had to go back for reservist and so, both of us were forced to sleep early!

I planned to wake up at 645am but instead, when Dear Dear left the house at 5 plus in the morning, i woke up too! Maybe i'm too excited to head back to school to see my litle darlings after so long, i couldn't get back to sleep (which explains why i'm so tired now...;p).

Most of the kids have grown really really tall and the boys...haha.. i hear a change in their voice. It's wonderful to see them growing up and i believe all of them are going to turn out to be fine adults.

Saw my children from the lower primary too and the younger ones are not as shy. They will run forward to give me a big big warm hug or to say 'Hi!'. Really wonderful to see them!

Met up with the girls at Central Mall for a hearty meal at Waraku as our dearest Min has got a mega craving for it. Jun had to meet us after dinner as she had family commitments!

I thought that Shi wouldn't be able to make it since it was such a last minute arrangement but she did!

She 's all geared up for her braces! Pulled out 4 teeth so that there's enough space for her teeth to straighten...
I've been wanting to wear braces to straighten my 2 front teeth tooth but didn't as firstly, its going to be painful. And secondly, its going to burn a hole in my pocket!
So we'll all be waiting to see a Min with beautiful teeth real soon!!

Fabian结婚喽！

前天，我第一次参加在寺庙举行的婚礼。
从来没有过，
好特别喔！
（Fabian 说要让我们开开眼界～～）

认识Fabian的时间不算久，
大概就是两、三年的事。
他是我在学校里一起工作的伙伴，
一起闹的死党，
在我沮丧的时候拉我一把的人，
听我碎碎念的大哥哥。

收到请帖的时候是开心的。
知道他终于要幸福地去跟Serene成家去了，
真的为他感到高兴。
还记得他们刚在一起的时候，
我还一直捉弄他，
硬要他把追求美女的过程告诉我！
哈哈哈～～

寺庙的婚礼跟教堂的婚礼没有什么大不同，
只是少了牧师的 sermon,
也不唱 hymns，
跟一般的注册仪式差不多。
我以为流程就跟其他的会很相似，
所以到了仪式完毕之后，
我很懊恼地转头问Dear Dear，
“咦？为什么没有说 ‘You may now kiss the bride..’”
哈哈哈哈！

以前那个蛋糕主题的 blogskin 是我亲手做的。因为花了很多心思，所以一直舍不得换掉。用了这么多年，终于换掉了。本来想亲手再做一个，但是 PC down, 正在用的这台 Mac 没装 html editor，所以，还是下次吧！先试试用这个 skin，搞不好用了一阵子我又换回以前那个啊！

Links 我还没放上去。现在要准备出门去了，晚上回来才继续弄！

PS：右上角的两个娃娃好可爱对不对！！hehe...

在從台北到台中的車上，Dear Dear介紹這首歌給我聽。原本我是先聽見蔡依林的版本，Dear Dear 讓我聽原唱 Damien Rice 的版本。原唱唱得好好聽，沒想到這個倪安東可以唱得這麼有 feel！

Wardrobe Clearance

I'm so inspired by Karen that i'm thinking of doing a wardrobe clearance. Maybe i should pick out the clothes, shoes and accessories that i seldom wear and sell them. It will generate some income and clear up some wardrobe space (for new ones?? ;p )! yeah! How nice! I even thought of selling the bags that i seldom use too... hmmm... but that, i think i would consider for a little longer... They were rewards that i got for myself! But seriously... some of them... I rarely use them... :(

Its still all just in my head now with no real action taken yet. I might spring into action soon, picking out the clothes i wanna sell. Rest assure that I'll only sell the ones that are in good conditions and any flaws will be highlighted. But!! I might sit on my couch and procrastinate and let the idea die off a natural death... hahaha... seriously, its quite a hassle.

First, i got to pick out the clothes from my wardrobe here at home and those that i left at my mummy's house. This process is going to be agonising for any female species (ok, me la.. haha) as we would want to keep EVERY piece thinking that we are going to wear them sometime....sometime in the future we are going to need that particular piece! hahaha...

Next, I'll need to find a cute model to wear my clothes and let me take a photo of her looking very pretty and kawaii in it. The model needs to be small and petite, i guess i do not have to explain why. Not easy to find someone my size but i guess i do have some cutie in mind. Then we'll need to arrange a day to take photos and then do some image editing for the colour and contrast after that.

Lastly, I'll need to sit down and post the photos and captions online and decide on the captions and wordings etc. Not to mention to collate the orders and post out the items.

Oh... it sounds like a task the size of an elephant... pardon my analogy... im writing this and feeling all sick and nauseous at the same time...hhaha....
