So it's official...Yahoo! is acquiring Xoopit and we're psyched to bring our technology and our people to participate in building a next generation webmail system with the Yahoo! Mail team. When we started Xoopit, we had a vision of making email more useful, social, and fun. To accomplish our goals, we brought together an absolutely outstanding group of people from our wicked engineering team to our sagacious investors to create a company that we love dearly, and products that we wanted to see in the world. We, as founders of Xoopit, want to thank the rest of the Xoopit team for helping craft our vision into an ongoing reality. We've been honored to work with first-class engineers and designers, who have put as much heart into our small company as they have into our huge set of product offerings. Moreover, we want to thank them for making life at Xoopit in our beloved San Francisco Mission the most unique, creative, and productive work experience that we've been involved in.

The Xoopit team today sees this acquisition as an exceptional path for us in achieving our vision. Over the last few months, we have left every conversation with the Yahoo! team thinking that together we can wow the world. We now get to unleash our ideas on the future of email to a huge global user base. To the Yahoo! Mail product & engineering VPs, John Kremer and Jason Titus: we love your commitment to being the best mail operation on the consumer web and look forward to becoming a part of your organization and completely rocking the house.

What does this mean for our many users? We acknowledge you all as the backbone of our service, giving our work meaning and giving us constant feedback over the last couple years. If you're already using My Photos in Yahoo! Mail, you'll see the product continue to improve and become more integrated into your Yahoo! Mail experience. If you're a Xoopit for Gmail user, that service will remain active for the time being.

Whip that photo collection into shape!

Control is not just the name of Janet Jackson's platinum third album— it's what you want when you're dealing with all the photos that come through your inbox. Today we're announcing a couple great new features in My Photos for Yahoo! Mail that give you some of that control.

Favorites is just what is sounds like: You can now simply mark any photo as a favorite by clicking on the Favorite button in the toolbar above it. All those photos show up in the Favorites tab on the home screen of My Photos, so you can skip right to the best stuff from your years of family and friend pictures:

We've also added a much-requested fast delete feature. Want to get rid of pictures that come from mailing lists or friends that just won't stop sending you not-safe-for-work-or-anywhere-else images? Just leave your mouse over the image for a moment until the red delete icon appears in its top-right corner. You can hide batches of images quickly this way, and if you delete a few from the same sender, we'll even ask if you want to hide all of their photos permanently.

Xoopit's My Photos application continues to be one of Yahoo! Mail's most popular applications. We welcome all the great new applications to Yahoo's platform; together we're all making Yahoo! Mail a better place to stay on the internet.

Share photos privately from "My Photos" inside Yahoo! Mail

Sometimes I host parties. At those parties, sometimes, a lot of wine is consumed, and sometimes a lot of pictures are taken. I want to share those pictures with the people who were there at the party, but there are too many photos to attach to email, and they're—ahem!—too private to share on Facebook. Now I have a alternative that works, directly inside my Yahoo! Mail: Photo Pages from Xoopit's My Photos application.

Our team has been hard at work on this new set of features, which we're proud to release this week for Yahoo! Mail. Xoopit's My Photos application is now not only the place to see all the photos that you have in your email, it's the easiest place for you to share private photos with your friends and family. Upload and send out piles of pictures of your new baby, photos from your dinner parties, or anything else, without worrying about attachment limits or distant acquaintances seeing them.

The receiver of the shared photos will get a link to a beautiful page with just the photos you want to share. (You can always deactivate that link if you want to.)

Best of all, all the uploaded photos become part of your My Photos collection in the application, so you can keep them and share again them with others later.

Xoopit puts status messages & profile photos in Gmail with Facebook Connect

Xoopit for Gmail now lets Gmail users immediately see and set Facebook® status messages and view the profile photos of their Facebook friends while reading mail, using Facebook Connect. Need something to say in reply to someone? Now their Facebook status is right at your fingtertips. Not sure what a new contact looks like? No need to do a web search, you often get their profile picture right next to your mail.

Activating Facebook inside Xoopit for Gmail is simple.

1. You can activate your ability to set your Facebook status messages inside Gmail by clicking on the new Facebook 'F' icon in the upper right hand corner of Gmail. Click on the Facebook Connect button to login to your Facebook account.

2. Set your status on Facebook by using the 'F' icon which you used to login to Facebook Connect.

3. Your Gmail Messages with people who are also on Facebook will now contain their Facebook profile photos, status messages. Facebook profile photos and status messages are located to the right of your Gmail messages in the light blue "In this conversation" box. If you click on 'more info' you can also see the user's birthday and other information like mobile phone numbers.

Note, you can use these features without signing up for the Xoopit for Gmail indexing service. You do however have to sign in via Facebook Connect. And as with all Xoopit for Gmail features, you can use this on Gmail, Google Mail and Google Apps accounts.

Photos by Xoopit launches for Yahoo! Mail

Today we launched Photos by Xoopit for Yahoo! Mail as part of their new smarter inbox. Photos by Xoopit adds a beautiful social photo browser to Yahoo! Mail. Whether you are trading photos from a recent soccer game or browsing through a ten year old Yahoo! Mail account, you now have access to a whole new view of your inbox.

With Photos by Xoopit, you can browse photo attachments and links to photos people have sent you from services such as Flickr, Picasaweb, Shutterfly, and Kodak without having to dig through all your emails. Over the coming weeks, we will also roll out more sharing features to help you post your photos to social networks such as Facebook or your blog.

Photo browsing in Gmail just got faster

Do you feel the need for speed? Then try out Xoopit's new photo browsing experience. Xoopit's updated photo browser is the fastest way to find, browse and share photos in your email. We also resolved some of the confusion on how to get back to Gmail from viewing photos in Xoopit. The new release helps a lot on that front as well. If you click from the photo bar or from the search results, we will show the photo in a modal dialog box. This allows you to easily just close the box or click on the greyed out Gmail to get back to what you were doing. And you now always see the context from which you launched Xoopit. Let us know what you think!
