Alas! After salivating from so many photos of Maple dishes taken by Instagram users that I follow, I was finally able to try it during Mother's Day ; )

The Maple Burger PhP 475

A juicy grilled patty, American cheese, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, fried onion rings and maple glazed bacon

I will start with The Maple Burger, the patty was juicy. The melted cheese on top kept the burger compact even after slicing it into four for sharing ; p I noticed that the bun was small for its burger though. The bacon was cooked just the way I like it. How I wish there were several more onion rings on the side and not just three. After all, I am paying PhP 475 for this meal alone.

And, uh, I think the country fries do not belong with this order but in The Big Maple Breakfast ; p I don't know why it was served together with The Maple Burger. I just noticed it while writing this entry.

Fresh mesclun and vegetables sprinkled with maple glazed pecans and parmesan flakes with roasted shallot vinaigrette

We all agreed that for PhP 375, Maple House Salad is not worth ordering. For one, I was not able to taste any pecan. The dressing tasted odd, it does not go well with the salad.

Three buttermilk pancakes or a giant Belgian waffle served with maple bacon, breakfast sausages, country fries and two farm fresh eggs made just the way you like

Since we were five in our group, I chose three buttermilk pancakes instead of a giant Belgian waffle to go with our order.You really need to put maple syrup on your pancakes because eating the pancake alone tasted bland.

I wonder how the giant waffle taste like. Is it any better?

Since we are five in our group and I just ordered 3 dishes including salad and 2 cups of coffee, the waiter looked a bit confused and had to ask me twice if that's our only order ; p Well, I would have ordered more if the food is not so pricey.

It was enough for me that I get to try this restaurant once. I am not saying I will not go back but it might be after a few more months to give them time to adjust both on food and service.

DIY Anniversary Surprise (Verleo Catering & Pastry Princess)

This 2013 marks my 10th year wedding anniversary with DH. Since I am the mushy one in our relationship, I want to make the celebration extra special for my best friend, my partner in crime and my soul mate so I surprised him with an elaborate dinner not just for two but for our entire family!

I planned the whole surprise 10th wedding anniversary in less than a week. Yes, from ordering a cake to calling a caterer. It really helps if you are "best friends" with the caterer lol I really wanted to bring over a priest to officiate/ bless us as a couple but I was out of luck. I guess I am pushing too hard already ; p

If you have been reading my blog, I wrote about the Pastry Princess over a year ago and I could not forget her. I have tasted so many Red Velvet cupcakes but hers is the only one that stood out. It was still moist even after I refrigerated it and tasted really good too- not too sweet! Yummy!

My only comment about this cake is that the frosting on the side was too thin. I swear, I can see the red velvet cake from afar but it tasted so good that I just ignored its flaw.

I gave these cupcakes to our guests as memento. Sad I was not able to taste it ; (

I also gave away these cookies. Just by looking at it, I am sure it tasted good also!

Cakes should be ordered three days in advance. For cupcakes and cookies, I just chose from what's available on the day I picked up the cake.

So, here's the story how I came up with the idea of surprising DH on our 10th wedding anniversary...

When I woke up last Monday, I just thought of surprising DH. First thing I did was to SMS/FB message my DH's siblings and my family. When I finally got the head count, I immediately called my good friend if I can have the party catered for only 20 persons. Everything went smoothly after that.

Well, almost! If only I was able to find a priest that's willing to officiate our "renewal of vows" outside the church then it would have been perfect!

Fish with Red Curry Sauce in Fruits

Personally, I like this dish because it tasted like the ones I ordered in Thai restaurant. Unfortunately, my relatives were not accustomed to its taste. Other reasons why this didn't make the cut? Because it is breaded and deep fried.

Sliced Roast Beef with Mushroom

Sliced Roast Beef was gone in like a few minutes! Everybody loves this dish ; )

Baby Back Ribs

Albeit a bit dry and lacking in sauce, the baby back ribs was surprisingly tender and tasty.

Boneless Chicken BBQ

Boneless Chicken BBQ is an all-time favorite. It's always a hit whenever this is served in parties!

Broccoli with Two Kinds of Mushroom

Another hit was Broccoli with Two Kinds of Mushroom.

Thai Bagoong Fried Rice

Aside from Fish with Red Curry Sauce in Fruits, Thai Bagoong Fried Rice was also recently added on the menu of Verleo Catering. For me, the fried rice tasted bland but my nephew said that it was his favorite!

Happy Mother's Day!

Quezon City never runs out of new restaurants and that's one of the reasons why I love living here. Last month, I tried this new restaurant called Lola Cafe + Bar with my girl friends. We sampled a few dishes, there are some hits and misses. I found out that the restaurant just opened a few months before and maybe it is still finding its identity and flavor. Well, there's always room for improvement.

Garden Salad PhP 280

Romaine, arugula, cucumber, parmesan with candied walnut, feta cheese, fresh tomato and greek vinaigrette

An order of Garden Salad is good for sharing. The vegetable were not wilted and the amount dressing was just right. I also loved the shaved parmesan, candied walnut and feta cheese. These ingredients reminded me of Cyma's Roka Salata.

Mushroom Soup PhP 150

Fresh mushroom and porcini with crushed cashew nuts

This bowl of Mushroom soup was ordered by my friend, G. It was a miss because it was bland. My other friend and I took a sip and we were all one in saying that we could not really understand the flavor or the lack of it.

Gambas Y Chorizo PhP 280

fresh prawns and chorizo, sauteed in olive oil and lots of garlic with tortilla

We wanted to try Camembert Cheese under Appetizer but the price is steep at PhP 360. Anyway, we ordered Gambas Y Chorizo instead and boy, we were so glad we did! We cleaned the plate in no time. The shrimp was succulent and the chorizo evens out the taste of this dish. Clap, clap for this dish!

Raspberry Iced Tea PhP 55

I have not eaten in any restaurant yet where the iced tea served was not too sweet. Lola's version was not an exception, I had to ask for a glass of water so I can mixed it in my drink. But my two other friends liked it, maybe to each his own.

Crispy Tofu Squares PhP 180

All three of us agreed that the Crispy Tofu Squares was a hit! It was crunchy outside yet soft inside ; ) This is one order you should not miss especially if you love tofu like me and my friends.

Spicy Tinapa PhP 185

Smoked fish with olive oil, chili flakes and fresh tomatoes

This Spicy Tinapa is anything but spicy. In fact, it was lacking in favor. There was a generous serving of tinapa but it was not enough to bring out the flavor of this dish.

Tenderloin Skewers was another dish that didn't pass our taste buds ; p The beef was not tender and I had a hard time chewing it. It was not even well-done.

My birthday is a monthlong celebration. After celebrating it with DH on my actual birthday, I celebrated it again with my family last Sunday in Greenhills Uno Seafood Palace. It is located where Annapolis Seafood Restaurant used to be.

My sister's birthday is actually 3 days after my birthday so this second party is a joint birthday celebration! We always buy cake from Hizon's, it's our favorite. The sweetness is just right and the cake is always moist, never dry.

DH and I were supposed to go to Solaire to celebrate my birthday but he went home late so we ended up in Shangri-la's East Wing. I was initially looking for this new restaurant called Maple but we were not able to locate it... bummer! We settled for Texas Roadhouse Grill instead because it is a lot like Chili's (It has fajitas!!!). I was craving for fajitas for days, finally, I get the chance to eat one on my birthday!

Jesse James Sampler for only PhP 1 (originally PhP 465)

The PhP 1 Appetizer flyer was handed over to us before we were ushered to our table. We picked Jessie James Sampler because it was the priciest one ; p On my next visit, I will order Santa Fe Nachos (PhP 365) because it looks appetizing, I saw one being served on another table.

Jessie James Sampler is a combination of Texas Roadhouse Grill famous starters like Crispy Chicken Tenders (PhP 295), Buffalo Wings (PhP 395) and Wild Cheese Fritters (PhP 320). It comes with three dipping sauces- sour cream, honey mustard and marinara sauce.

Wild Cheese Fritters is deep-fried breaded mozzarella stick that is so gooey yet so delicious, just make sure to eat it as soon as it arrives on your table.

El Paso Combo Fajitas PhP 440

El Paso Fajitas choices are grilled marinated chicken (PhP 370), steak (PhP 510), combo or fresh veggies (PhP425) served on a sizzling plate with onions and bell peppers. It is served with warm tortillas, salsa, pico de gallo, mixed cheese and sour cream.

The steak was a bit tough to chew on, everything else is a-ok!

The Baby Back Ribs Full Rack PhP 850

The Baby Back Ribs was tender but not fall-off-the-bone kind of ribs that I truly like. It was juicy though and it was not swimming in sauce so I think this order is passable. It also comes with corn on the cob and fries. Half Rack is only PhP 595.

Our Club Millesime room came with a buffet breakfast for two. We have a choice to dine at the Lounge or at Spiral. We chose the latter. The buffet starts at 6:30 am so we woke up early the next day to enjoy the sumptuous cuisines the restaurant has to offer.

The second we entered the restaurant, it was already bustling with diners. Most patrons were families and business executives having their morning cup of coffee. We were ushered to our table located near La Veranda.

Overall, we had a nice and relaxing vacation. We experienced the warm and hospitable staff of Sofitel, truly, a luxury hotel.

Surprises on my Birthday!

This year, my birthday is extra special because I celebrated it for the first time with my daughter. Plus the fact that family, relatives, friends and readers from all over the world greeted me online via Facebook, Twitter & Instagram. I received a lot of SMS greetings too. I even got one from our ex-househelp who now works for my SIL ; p Some even attempted to call me on my phone but my cellphone is always on SILENT mode these days lol

People who are close to me know that celebrating my birthday is a big thing for me. Getting all the attention for one day has made me a very happy person so thank you all!

Chicco Jazzy in Red Wave

I was not able to blog yesterday because it was my birthday. I was out celebrating with my parents during lunch and with DH and baby during dinner. Anyway, more on that in my next post!

For today, I want to share my recent purchase for my baby girl, a new high chair! When I went to Rustan's, I didn't know that there are a lot to choose from. Prices also varies. Chicco brand won me over because I think it was the most stable among the bunch.

Chicco Jazzy in Red Wave PhP 5,995.75

Just a precaution, highchairs are for kids who are able to sit upright without any help from an adult. This is recommended for babies that are 6 months or older. With this type, I can use it for my baby until she turns 3 years old or weighs 15kg.

Chicco Activity Tray can be adjusted in 3 positions

Fitting/Adjusting the activity tray:

Hold onto the activity tray and pull the fastener handes outwards
The numbers on the armrest indicate the three different positions that the activity tray can be used in.
Adjust the activity tray until the desired position is reached and released the handles

To remove, simply pull the fastener handles outwards and lift the tray upwards.

Grilled Lamb Chops Recipe

It's Foodie Tuesday!

Let me share with you one of my favorite dishes, it's none other than Lamb Chops. Remember my post about the to-die-for lamb chops at La Reserve in Boracay? How about Zuccini's Australian Lamb Chops?

I can't believe it's so easy to cook lamb chops on you own. Here's the list of ingredients:

Lamb Chops
Chopped garlic
Knorr Liquid Seasoning
Olive Oil
Unsalted Butter
Salt & Pepper

For grilled lamb chops easy recipe, read after the break...

Step 1: Rub Salt & Pepper on lamb chops

Step 2: Add Olive oil then butter onto the grilling pan (medium heat)

You may opt to brown the garlic first before grilling the meat.

Step 3: Lay down the meat

Step 4: Cook for 5 minutes on each side

Step 5: Turn the meat after 5 minutes then add seasoning

Step 6: Ready to serve

Step 7: Enjoy eating!

You can also use this grilling technique for steaks. It's always nice to know that I can cook my favorite dish at home and save thousands of money instead of eating in a restaurant.

By the way, I bought the lamb chops in Tenderbites, Unimart for PhP 1,245 per kilo. As long as it's tender and easy to chew, I don't mind paying a lot for my favorite dish!

Growing My Hair Long... Again! #SELFIE

Last December 2012, I sported a pixie cut. You can see it in my Japan travel photos. I told my stylist, Anna, from Tony & Jackey that after the pixie cut, I will grow my hair long. Fast forward to four months later, I am back in the salon for the much needed trim and haircut update!

This is me now! I was not able to post #selfies on Instagram or anywhere else because prior to my haircut, my hair is kind of hard to manage. Just imagine four months of no haircut tee hee

After stepping out of the salon, I felt like one of the women in Gangnam Style video lol My hair looks like in its pre-pixie cut days, only now it's fuller at the back and with shorter side bangs.

I told my stylist that I will see her in four months. That will be the schedule of my next haircut! I hope to sport a bob by December in time for my annual Christmas photo op.

Thanks to my SIL, I was able to watch ASAP 18 last Sunday together with my mom, sis and cousins. Our tickets were good for Studio Tours with ASAP 18. Each ticket costs PhP 200 each tax inclusive.

I learned that it takes 2 to 3 months in advance to book the tour inclusive of one TV show and that it is already accepting reservations for the year 2014. ASAP 18, however, is fully booked already until July 2013 so we were really lucky we were able to secure seats to watch it.

First stop: ShowTime studio

We arrived at Studio Tours Office at around 8:30 am. We were the last ones to join the group. Some audience came from the province just to join the tour and watch the show.

Well, as you can see the studio was dimly-lit. In fact, when we arrived it was a total black out. Oh, and no aircon too!

The studio is quite small but it looks really huge on TV, thanks to the wide angle cameras used that magnifies the entire area 10x.

Second stop: ABS-CBN NewsCenter

My mom and I were seated in the anchor's seats for late night news telecast. This time the studio is much smaller than the first one with no audience seats available.

Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take a peek inside Dolphy Theater. A canteen is located directly across Dolphy Theater that's where we had our early lunch. We were instructed that once we entered ASAP studio, food and drinks are not allowed.

Recipe: Grilled Tanigue

Happy foodie Tuesday!

This week, I will share with you a recipe on how to grill Tanigue. I made this for our dinner last week. Tanigue is Spanish Mackerel in English.

Grilled Tangigue

Ingredients:

3 pieces of Tanigue
chopped garlic
butter
salt & pepper
Bragg Liquid Aminos
lemon (optional)

For preparation and how to grill Tanigue, read after the break...

Preparation instructions:

Add salt & pepper on both sides of Tanigue
In a pan, brown chopped garlic (low heat)

Lemon Butter sauce:

In a pan, melt a tablespoon of butter (low heat)
Squeeze 1/4 lemon
Wait until it sizzles then remove it from the pan
Your dipping sauce is now ready

Step 1: In medium heat, add butter to the grilling plate

You can also use Olive Oil as an alternative. I prefer to use butter because I like the smell of butter when I am grilling.

Step 2: Add Tanigue and more butter on top

At this point, you may also put a dash of liquid seasoning on the meat.

Step 3: Cook until there is no blood oozing out of the meat

You can also check the doneness of the meat by sticking a fork at the center. If there's no blood, then you can flip the meat and cook the other side.

Step 4: Add a generous serving of garlic on top

It takes about less than 15 minutes to cook this dish and serves 3 persons. It is best served with warm rice ; )

Earlier this month, I blogged about Burt's Bees Outdoor Bug Bite Relief. Since I posted the entry, I got a lot of comments/suggestions for treating mosquitoes bites from readers like you. I found out online that one of the two active ingredients in Burt's Bees Outdoor Bug Bite Relief (Camphor) is not safe for babies... ack! *smacks myself in the head for not researching online before buying ; p

To make the long story short, I gave the tube to DH. I have since switched to Ilog Maria Propolis Ointment.

My SIL suggested Cebo De Macho, luckily, finding the product is easy. I found one near the check-out counter in SM Supermarket. I have been applying it onto her skin religiously.

By applying Cebo De Macho (CDM) after every bath, the mosquito bite marks have already lightened except for the one on the lower right (photo above). I am still applying Ilog Maria Propolis Ointment on that one.

Baygon Mat Anti-Dengue Mosquitoes PhP 74.75W

I bought Baygon Mat to prevent mosquitoes from attacking us once more. Each mat works for eight hours. Just be careful not to leave the heater in the electric plug overnight, it can get really hot and dangerous.

The mat emits a light scent. I suggest you use this only when you have screened windows or screened doors.

Step 1: Place a mat inside the heater & plug in an electrical outlet

I only plug this occasionally as I am afraid I would forget and leave it plugged for more than 8 hours plus the scent that it emits really bothers me. With that, I can't really prove that it is really effective.

Step 2: After 8 hours, remove and replace the mat

I want to buy an electric mosquito killer, the one with an ultraviolet light from Imarflex. I can't seem to find the brand in SM Department Stores. Any idea where I can find Imarflex?

After our late dinner at Conti's Bakery and Restaurant, my friends and I walked towards Magnolia Flavor House only to find a long queue outside the ice cream house. We want to have dessert and we wanted it fast, without the hassle of waiting. We settled for Elias instead which in my opinion, did not disappoint.

Guinumis PhP 85

Two of my friends ordered Guinumis, a traditional Filipino dessert. It has sago at the bottom, pinipig on top and crushed ice in between. I will definitely order this next time I visit Elias. It looks so refreshing!

Halo-halo ni Elias PhP 125

This is one dessert that is sooo sulit! I love the use of grated cheese on top together with banana chips, ube, cherry and macapuno, but that's not all! There is also sago, gulaman, leche flan and beans at the bottom.

Halo-halo ni Elias is perfect for this hot summer season!

Yesterday, I was back at Elias. I brought my parents with me to let them try Halo Halo ni Elias and I, guinumis! My verdict, I <3 it!

Elias' Guinumis has a lot of tapioca pearls, coconut milk and pinipig on top. It was definitely one of my favorite summer coolers!

Last Friday, my friends and I had a mini get-together in our favorite mall, Robinsons Magnolia. It took us several hours to decide where to eat. Think four girl with four different opinions hahaha Finally, around 9:30pm, we agreed to have our dinner at Conti's Bakeshop and Restaurant.

Baked Salmon PhP 355

Baked Salmon is an all-time favorite whenever my family and I dined here. So, I was not surprised that one of my friends ordered it. The salmon was cooked just right as usual with melted cheese on top. It really looks appetizing!

Crispy Soft Shell Crab Salad PhP 225

Crispy Soft Shell Crab Salad is one of the new items on their menu and I had to order it. For one, those of you who regularly browse through my blog would know that I <3 soft shell crab. Second, it has been awhile since I last ordered one. This dish did not disappoint, even my friends liked it!

Beef Salpicao PhP 395

Three of my friends shared their orders but I got this Beef Salpicao all to myself hahaha I am a certified beef lover. The beef was not tender and I can still see a little blood oozing out of the meat as I sliced it... argh! But the crunchy garlic on top and garlic rice make up for it.

Next time, I will spend my PhP 400 on other items in the menu.

Lengua Estofada PhP 290

Lengua Estofada was the reason I was not able to share food with my other friends. I don't eat lengua. Just thinking about cow's tongue makes me puke ; p So, there---> I am not a glutton because I had beef salpicao all for myself, I just can't take in lengua. My friends love it though.

Another order was Lasagna Regular PhP 210 (not in the photo). Everybody was full when this order arrived. With all the chikahan, I forgot to take its photo ; p

The night didn't end there. Of course, we had to get some dessert but that deserves another entry!
