When trying the five original Marc-Antoine Barrois scents at their tiny, elegant boutique in the Passage Vero-Dodat in Paris, I found them each more stunning than the last, and was sure I would return to make my choice. The salesperson gave me a free box of samples--certainly a long-gone practice--and for some reason, I could never settle on a scent I wanted. I find the opening kind of harsh and a little unpleasant, though I don't really know why. Thankfully, it settles down fairly quicly, and as does, it becomes very pleasant. The frankincense heart absolutely reminds me of an Anglican church, which I do like, and I also like the woody base.

So often, these days, I find Contemporary Feminines so Ambery Candy Floss sweet. Angel at once was so intoxicating, however proved ruinous in it's effect on the Fem repertoire going forward. Then Mugler assaulted us again with the Vanilla Sweet Bun Alien Essence Absolue which I find again, intoxicatingly Sweet Gourmand and Comic. This Loukhoum stuff carries the Gourmand thing forward, however, it manages to finesse through to a Perfumed Almond Perfectly Flaky Croissant. Review of Sex Appeal for Men by Jōvan

Original formula tested. I dunno about this. Sex Appeal is chocked with an intoxicating, deep and aged patchouli leaf that makes me drool. Honestly the patchouli in this is killer… killer! Unfortunately to get to that cat nip patch, I’m forced to wade through piles upon piles of potent baby powder for 6 hours. Hate baby powder. Love patchouli. Woe is me.

Review of Sauvage Eau Forte by Christian Dior

I’ll revisit this once I’ve worn it more. I like the line but this is different. Like, really different. My first impression is that YSL Myslf and Valentino Born in Roma GreenStravaganza had a baby. An underwater birth at that. Outta the bottle it’s a blast of spicy weirdness. Fresher and sweeter on strip as opposed to skin, where it’s immediately more green and earthy. It dries down nice - with lavender and woods - and sophisticated, as you’d expect. It’s probably overpriced, but I kinda like it. We’ll see if I ever pick it up.

What scent profile/s do you not enjoy or hate wearing, or smelling?

I wanted to make this thread because i noticed that even tho i appreciate amber scents, i do not care to wear them ever, anywhere. I do like Amber Absolute, Ambre Sultan, Grand Soir, Ambre Orient, Le Lion, Benjoin 19 etc...but when it comes to actually wearing the fragrance, i for some reason don't see the reason or the passion and urge to ever wear an amber at all, however i sometimes like to put a spray on hand and enjoy it that way. Btw I know that in the fragrance world, ambers are universally loved and i see people really adoring them, so this may seem weird to some. What about you? do you have a scent profile or a genre that you just dont care, hate...

Hello. Is there a way to weaken a perfume's projection/sillage, while maintaining longevity? I prefer more of an intimate projection but many scents aren't available as EDT ... looking for a solution! :)

Replacement for Chinese Tobacco?

Can anybody recommend a good replacement for Chinese Tobacco by 19-69? I always thought tobacco scents would make me smell like an old man, so when I got a free sample of Chinese Tobacco, I was surprised to find that I loved it! I didn't find it too sweet or heavy and really enjoyed its woodiness, well-balanced spiciness, and citrusy zing. I was on the verge of ordering it when I discovered that it's inspiration was the scene in Apocalypse Now with the line about the smell of Napalm in the morning. Horrifying. Looking for scents to sample - vanilla or gourmand

Hi everyone, I'm looking to add to my modest collection and enjoy the sampling process. Thanks to your wonderful previous suggestions I fell hard for Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille, I love wearing this but because of the price use it sparingly. I would love to find another vanilla that is less expensive, or open to other gourmand recommendations. A bit about me - I am UK based, female and a psychotherapist, so I am conscious to not wear scents that are too strong in case that impacts my clients, but I do like them to be long-lasting, so less projection.
