Legend of the Seeker: New show from the Xena team opens Nov. 1

Legend of the Seeker (formerly Wizard’s First Rule), a new syndicated fantasy/action show from Xena: Warrior Princess executive producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi, starts airing November 1.

The trailer can now be seen on the series’ official site.

The show has been renamed from its original title, Wizard’s First Rule. It is based on a series of fantasy novels by Terry Goodkind, and is being produced by Disney/ABC and ABC studios for domestic syndication.

According to the press release:

“Wizard’s First Rule” follows the extraordinary travels of woodsman Richard Cypher (Craig Horner), who discovers his own magical powers. With the help of a mysterious woman named Kahlan (Bridget Regan) and a wise old wizard named Zedd, Richard must stop a ruthless tyrant from unleashing an ancient evil and enslaving the world.

According to TVWeek.com, X:WP alums Jay Laga’aia (Draco) and Craig Parker (Sarpedon, Bellerophon) have also joined the cast.

Several members of the Xena cast and crew are appearing this week at the Comic Con International at the San Diego Convention Center.

At 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, Xena: Warrior Princess executive producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi are among of the guests on a panel about their new syndicated fantasy show, Wizard’s First Rule.

Also on Thursday, from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m., Lucy Lawless will be speaking on the “SCREAM! Like a Girl” panel, which takes a look at women in comic books, science fiction, fantasy and horror. Co-panelists include Gale Ann Hurd, producer of Terminator and Terminator 2.

A late addition to the Comic Con guests is Renee O’Connor. According to Xena Fan Club President Sharon Delaney, Renee will be at the Atom Films Booth at 4 p.m., promoting her upcoming online series Ark.

Xena on the EW list of 100 best TV shows

In celebration of its 1000th issue, Entertainment Weekly magazine has issued a list of “the EW 1000,” including lists of 100 best items in each of several categories of popular culture for the past 25 years. Xena: Warrior Princess is #60 on the “New TV classics” list, ahead of such popular and critical favorites as The Golden Girls (#77), Murphy Brown (#81), Northern Exposure (#84), and Prime Suspect (#86). X:WP is one of only four sci-fi/fantasy series on the list (with The X-Files at #4, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer at #10, and Star Trek: The Next Generation at #24), and one of only two female-centered action shows.

Seven years since the finale of X:WP

Seven years ago, on June 23, 2001, the finale of Xena: Warrior Princess aired in the United States.

X:WP has now been off the air, as a first-run series, longer than it was on on the air. Yet seven years after its end the show still boasts a remarkably strong fandom.

Episode Chats on the XOC

Come join us throughout week as we talk about Xena in the XOC Chatroom, The Sais and Chakram Tavern Chat. Right now, we are into season six–this Sunday, June 8 we’ll be talking about “Path of Vengeance.” And as it turns out, just as we finish with season six, it’ll be time for 13th anniversary of “Sins of the Past.”

After season six, we’ll start the process all over again with the first season.

This is our schedule (tentative and subject to change):

Sunday: 7:15pm Eastern
Monday: 8:15pm Eastern
Saturday: 9:15pm Eastern
Sunday: 12:15pm Eastern Repeat of last week’s episode

Now, you’re probably asking yourself how this works. Well, for starters you’ll need the DVDs, tapes, (or however else you watch the series–ahem). We start our chats on the quarter hour to allow for late arrivals and it gets us finished about on the hour. We all watch the show on our computers and then talk about the episode chatroom.

Think of it as one big gab fest about Xena.
