Elsewhere, Molly Meech and Alex Maloney led the fleet of 49erFX heading into the fleet of gold racing as well as the pair of Nacra 17 Jason Saunders and Gemma Jones who are at the second position still. Peter Burling and Blair Tuke didn’t return to the international competition. He concluded by winning third race and being in the 35th position overall in the 49er fleet of record-size.

Junior and Andy Maloney are now working together. The aim of both sailors is to giving a chance to whoever selected for the Olympics has the best possible winning opportunity in Tokyo in the coming next year. The pair made a great start and impressed many in their first major regatta. This is their first maor regatta of the European season. They are now sitting on the top of Finn Fleet of 86-boat Finn.

When Maloney was asked about his performance, he said “We both have the aim that we remain on both first and second position when this regatta concludes, however, we have to go a long way for this and we are doing just our best.”

Bjorn Bertoft, the solo sailor is all set to take the cruise to the Baltic Sea in 100 Sun, Wind Water adventure through renewable power. The solo skipper began his challenge of sailing in 7 countries in the surrounding areas of Baltic Sea only using the power of water, wind and sun. He would sail with young environmentalists to accumulate data on micro plastics present in the ocean. They will also check the visibility of water and condition of surface water for the University of Gothenburg. The performance of the electric engine of Johanna will be monitored which runs on lithium Torqeedo batteries. The engines are recharged through solar panels and pod drive propeller of the boat which works like a treadmill in the water. The yacht becomes lighter when the fuel tank and diesel engines are removed.

The 57 years old has not only cruised but also raced extensively in Sweden and Norway and now his only mission is to reach the final destination by end of August. The destination is none other than Stockholm. His main objective is to create awareness of environmentally friendly sailing. He wants his sailors to get a complete idea on this as sailors are undoubtedly wind lovers. One of the main reasons why he has taken this initiative is because his children were born and brought up in Johanna. He sold the same, bought back soon after and got some renovations done.

Bertoft has also made the required alterations for the deck, hull and interiors to repair and make the yacht stronger. There is no electric water pump or indoor shower down below. There are LED lights installed instead and also a fridge and navigation device. Bertoft has even invested in solar oven cooker wherein it uses sunlight for boiling and cooking food. Bertoft wishes to devote his remaining years to create awareness among young generations.

Tasmania’s biggest sailing regatta has made a record this year as more than double of last year’s yachts will feature in the Banjo’s Shoreline Crown Series, as per reports. The Crown Series set for this weekend – Friday through Sunday – shows a boost in the level of competitiveness expected compared to the last edition.

The Cruising with Spinnakers Division will have close to 30 cruiser or racer yachts for the series. A fleet of more than 80 yachts is expected with many more expected off the beach. Aside the cruiser yachts, there would be SB20 sport boats, International Dragons, and trailable yachts.

Part of the increasing competition is due to the changes to the Combined Clubs pennant racing, which used to attract up to 50 boats on Saturday. The 2018 regatta will begin with twilight on Friday, 16 February for the keelboats divisions. This is the first time the twilight will be afull-on windward/leeward race with spinnakers. It is set to begin on Friday in the evening.

Line honours and first place winner at the Royal Hobart Regatta, Toby Richardson’s X&Y will leadthe fleet at the 2018 Banjo’s Shoreline Crown Series Bellerive Regatta. Michael and Michelle Denney’s Z39 Wild West and Wayne Banks-Smith’s Farr 40 War Games will be amongst the pacesetters.

The Scott Sharp-led Melges 32 Crusader has a steady rising profile in Derwent, especially after third place finish at Bruny Island circumnavigation race last week.

The Racing Division will see four Mumm 36 in action: Gavin Adamson’s Madness, Jeff Cordell’s B&G Advantage, Matthew Keal’s Heat Wave, and Ian Stewart’s TasPaints. Other small boats like Matthew Denholm’s Farr 30 Ceopatra, Team Mem’s J35 Mem, Brent McKay’s Radford 35L Rad and Planet X are also expected to perform well in the Racing Division before the SB20s, Dragon, trailable yachts and others join the regatta on Saturday and Sunday.

Leading the fleet of hydro-foiling GC32 super-speed catamarans during each day of racing, the Swiss team Alinghi secured another win today in Cascais, Portugal. This happened in the mid-season battle for the top spot in Extreme Sailing Series.

Nicolas Charbonnier, Arnaud Psarofaghis, Nils Frei, Timothé Lapauw and Yves Detrey showed the faultless sailing all through the event, taking their 2018 season third Act win. They entered the Cascais regatta with a tie up overall score by Danish SAP Extreme Sailing Team, but the Swiss team sailed break free and lead once again to win the race.

“Winning in Cascais is a great feeling.,” said Arnaud Psarofaghis, the co-skipper and helm. “All through the race we sailed really well. During the whole week we never had any bad races. The team performed well and did a great job of flying around the race course. I’m very happy with the overall performance.”

On the other hand the Danes gave a good fight to Swiss, finishing the Portuguese Act in second place. The skipper of the team Rasmus Køstner commented. “It was a pretty intense day for us, we tried hard to fight it out with Alinghi, but they did not make mistakes during the race and so their win is well-deserved. As of now, we will continue our battle in Cardiff.”

The team may not have taken the top spot in the race, but SAP Extreme Sailing did set the record. They made the record for the fastest speed in the 12 year history of the Series. They sailed well in most of big breezes of Cascais and utilize the perfect foiling conditions, they hit a top speed of 37.9 knots on the event’s second day. For their spectacular performance, they were awarded the Zhik Speed Machine trophy.

In the world of luxury yachts Lili is a new addition offered by Imperial Yachts. It is a Limited Edition 180 design version that was delivered recently at the Dutch yard Amels. It was christened at the yards before it was delivered and the name has caught the fancy of many.

The yacht was sold a year before, in April 2016, and the company overlooked construction of the same as the boat is part of the collection of Amel’s Limited Edition 180 series. The boat would now head out to Norway. This would be the first voyage chartered by the vessel. The boat would spend the winter season in the waters of the Indian Ocean around Thailand.

The maximum draught of the boat would be 3.35 meters. The yacht is made of a steel hull based on a superstructure of aluminum. It has been made as per the standards of Lloyd’s registry and is MCA compliant. The exterior styling is done by Tim Heywood, while the interior décor was done by Laura Sessa Design. The total volume of the area worked upon is 707 GT. The hull color is Castle Tan as described by Imperial Yachts.

The luxury yacht has accommodation for about 12 guests. This is split among a total of six staterooms. There is a bridge deck on which the owner’s cabin resides along with two twins and three double rooms below the decks.

The crew quarters can accommodate about 12 people. The key features of the boat include folding balconies. There is a private aft deck as well, which is directly linked to the owner’s suite. The extended sun deck of this super yacht is the main feature that spans an area of 175 square meters. The large deck space has been included to fit a four meter swimming pool.

The names of the boys are Twins Josh, Will Hamilton, Zac Pearson and Jack White. These four guys have been selected to participate in the NZ Winter O’pen Cup. The tournament is going to take place in Auckland on Manly Sailing Club in July.

Vice Commodore of Marakura Yacht Club, Bruce Keen said Coutts has funded and sponsored many young boys from Otago and Southland. They have been invited here to attend the Auckland event and he is also putting them up at his home.
During their stay at the home of Coutts, the boys will receive coaching of two days. The first day will be for complete racing and the second day will have a half racing and a half adventure.

From the beginning of January 2017, these boys were using a new class of boat and sailing in it. The boat is the O’pen BIC.
<more>
According to Keen, the new class of boats has generated the passion of sailing in these young boys and now they want to do more sailing. The training has given them an opportunity to try their sailing art against each other’s who has a similar ability.

All the four boys have the background of sailing. They know about P-class yachts and Optimist; they have even taken this new class boat very quickly and are enjoying sailing it.

Now, talking about the selection of these boys, then, according to Keen, the boys got selected for training because their name came to light from attending recent training camps and competitions in the South Island. Somebody suggested their name and we picked them. All four young sailors are extremely excited about being chosen to get training from Coutts.

Lease extension was requested by National Sailing Hall of Fame before, but it does not seem to have given them requisite time as they have put in a request again. It appears that they need more time to raise the requisite funds in order to complete the City Dock building that is planned, a 12000 square foot structure.

The organization that works for nonprofit initiatives would place their plea in front of Maryland Board of Public Works on February 8th. They will request for an extension to be granted on the lease for a period of three years, before it moves to a permanent exhibition stand in Zadar.

The deal that is currently extended by the state to the organization requires them to pay about one dollar per year. The current agreement requires them to raise 9.5 million dollars for the new building. The initial deadline was set for February 23rd and the museum has to prove that it has started construction on the new building.

A lease had been signed in 2009 which required the museum to raise 29 million as per an ambitious project they had taken up. There is an upcoming event of New Yorker coming up at the National Sailing Hall of Fame that will be an online exhibit.

Here covers of New Yorkers would be showcased. As per the restructuring agreement formed in 2014 the museum has to raise 4.3 million and 1.25 would be provided from federal reserves. The rest of the money would come in from the pledge as well as from cash reserves.

The museum is also hoping to get one million more from state funding in the fiscal year of 2019. This has been included in the budget proposal of Larry Hogan for fiscal 2018. Even though the museum is yet to raise the requisite funds within the time given, they have been able to organize several programs to raise donations as well as remove existing debts.

In the race total 91 boats are participating. It will be 628 nautical mile race – and it is going to be difficult amide rain. The concern is more for two internationals Australian yachts that were purchased by British yachtsman Richard Stain and Swede Jonas Grander. Both have their yacht, Samskara and Matador sight unseen. Both are preparing their yacht from past two days amid downpour.

Before the race news has also come up saying Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race is going to have a team all of indigenous crew. They will race under the name of “Tribal Warrior”. They will create history by being the first indigenous entry in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. However, authorities of Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race said, “This is not the case; entry of race gets closed in October.
<more>
For 2016 year race last entry was made on 20 October. The Cruising YC of Australia did not receive any such entry till last time. Thus, there is no question of any such team participating in the event. It could be possible they want to do it in 2017 event and information was taken mistakenly.”

The Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race start will be telecast live on the Seven Network. It will done all over Australia.

Authorities said “Preparation for the race has been done since the end of organizers. Now, participants are busy in training and giving final touch to their boats. Like every year this year will also witness huge crowds of sailing lovers and the event will be a big success for sure.”
