Tremcar makes changes in US distribution system

Tremcar recently announced changes in its US distribution system prompted by the retirement of Mel Battle, owner of Bulk Transportation Systems. Andy Mulvey, vice-president international for Tremcar USA will take over the sales and service for clients located in the region BTS once covered.

“We would like to thank Mr Battle for his 15 years of collaboration with Tremcar and we wish him success in his future endeavours,” Mulvey says.

TRALA questions compliance costs in next round of GHG rules

The Truck Renting and Leasing Association recently submitted comments on proposed GHG rule changes to the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Highway Transportation Safety administration. The new rules cover increasingly strict reductions in greenhouse gas emissions from commercial vehicles.

FTR’s Shippers Conditions Index (SCI) for July, at a reading of -1.3, continues to reflect the short term stability of capacity utilization and steady fuel prices that are aiding shippers in containing costs. However, FTR expects the SCI to fall gradually during the balance of 2015 with a more severe negative downturn in 2016 due to forecasted stronger freight conditions and rising fuel prices.

CARB affirms biodiesel as lowest-carbon fuel

In a fight to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, California’s Air Resources Board has spent years looking for the cleanest, most efficient ways to cut carbon. Turns out, biodiesel is at the top of the list.

Recently, the board finalized California’s revised Low Carbon Fuels Standard. The new standard affirms America’s Advanced Biofuel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% and often by as much as 81% versus petroleum. This gives biodiesel the best carbon score among all liquid fuels.

International Roadcheck 2015 out-of-service rates for Level I inspections lowest on record

ATA Truck Tonnage Index slides in august but posts 2.1% year-over-year gain

The American Trucking Associations’ advanced seasonally adjusted For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index declined 0.9% in August, following a revised increase of 3.1% during July. However, the index is still up 2.1% year-over-year.

In August, the index equaled 134.2 (2000=100), down from 135.3 in July. The all-time high of 135.8 was reached in January 2015.

Compared with August 2014, the SA index increased 2.1%, which was below the 4% gain in July. Year-to-date through August, compared with the same period last year, tonnage was up 3.3%.

Indian River installing FlowBelow AeroKits on tractor fleet

Rubis Terminal doubles capacity at Rotterdam terminal

Rubis Terminal is expanding its terminal in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. At the end of last year, the first piling was installed into the ground and after just finishing the civil works, 14 storage tanks will be set in place.

The storage tanks were delivered over water. Transporter Mammoet moved the 14 tanks from Antwerp and the north of Holland.

Classes 5-7 net orders rise in August, Class 8 orders slip

Class 8 truck manufacturers booked nearly 20,200 net new orders in August, while Classes 5-7 posted almost 17,900 net orders. These results were published in the latest State of the Industry report, recently released by ACT Research Co.

Kenny Vieth, ACT’s president and senior analyst, said that August Class 8 data contained “several eyebrow-raising data points, including a second consecutive month of off-trend production, cancellations at a 71-month high, and only about 1,000 August orders booked into Q4 build slots.”

ATA raises alarm over critical shortage of truck technicians
