Thanksgiving is Approaching

Now that we are well into November, it’s probably time to get ready for the biggest meal of the year… Thanksgiving dinner. Here are a couple of things you should start thinking about now:

Choose a menu
Decide if you are ordering a fresh turkey or a frozen one
Remember that it is best to allow 4-5 days to let the turkey completely thaw
Start checking your local grocery ads
Pull out all of those decorations from your attic

The Chesapeake Homes Balmoral Home Show will be this weekend and we will be ringing it in with a Red White & Blue Celebration Theme! We value our military and everything that they do for us on a daily basis, and wanted to show our appreciation.

The Tidewater Builders Association also has incorporated a Military theme at Homearama. Homearama builders Jimmy Richardson and Edward Hewitt wanted to pay tribute to all of those men and women serving in our military, by giving them a buy one, get one free admission ticket by showing a valid military ID.

Chesapeake Homes will be providing hot dogs, sodas and an assortment of snacks this weekend along with a special incentive for all of our military buyers. We will also be giving out a free gift for all of those who take a tour of our homes at Balmoral. We provide many different promotions for our military buyers to show just how much they mean to us. In addition to the special incentive during this weekend, we offer a free appliance with the purchase of a home.

Trick or Treat in Raleigh

Who is excited for Halloween this Friday? I know your kids are! All of those little ninjas and ballerinas are ready to show their costumes on the streets in your neighborhood this Friday. While trick or treating this year, make sure you are practicing safe techniques while doing so.

It is important to travel in groups when your children are trick or treating, and make sure they are always with an adult! Only visit well-lit houses, and make sure your kids are within your eyesight the whole time. One of the easiest things you can do to increase your family’s safety, is to plan your route ahead of time. This way you can make sure you are all on track and know where your kids are headed next.

Family Friendly Fun!

Raleigh is one of the best places to trick or treat in all of North Carolina. There are tons of local events that go on during the week of Halloween and they are within a stone’s throw of some of Chesapeake Homes’ finest communities. The Crabtree Valley Mall is having their own trick or treating event on Friday from 5:30 – 7:30, so be sure to hit that before you hit the streets!

This event at Crabtree Valley Mall is only one of the many local events that go on near our Langston Ridge community. Chesapeake Homes communities are made to be family-friendly and are only built in the best areas of the Triangle. Get ready for Trick Or Treating!

Everyone is excited for the upcoming Halloween weekend. From spidermen to princesses, all of our kids are ready to show off their costumes and devour the candy that they collect. However, the exciting holiday can become less than fun if kids and parents are not careful. We listed some tips below to help you keep your Halloween safe:

· Plan a route in advance

· Make sure you and your little ones are in comfy shoes

· Wear short costumes that will not drag on the ground

· Skip the masks, they can make it harder for kids to breathe

· Only visit the houses that are well-lit

· Check your candy at the end of the night, only keep the ones in wrappers

Building Awareness in the Community

Last Saturday Chesapeake Homes hosted a Silent Auction to help raise funds for the Susan G Komen North Carolina Triangle to the Coast Affiliate. The auction was held in one of our very own Parade of Homes models, which was a Silver Award Winner in this year’s competition. The event was a huge success and we all helped raise close to $5,000 for Susan G Komen NCTC.

Chesapeake Homes has been a major supporter of the Susan G Komen NCTC foundation for many years. This event is only one of the many events they hold in effort to raise money for the organization. People from all over town came to the event, including many of the new neighbors in the Traditions Wake Forest community, and each received a swag bag filled with Chesapeake Homes and Komen goodies. Some lucky winners went home with tickets to a Wake Forest football game, a new Michael Kors handbag or a linen bed set from Belk!

Catered by the Macaroni Grill with live music playing in the background, everyone had a wonderful time. This auction was a major hit in the community and we thank everyone who came out to support Komen NCTC!

October is the month we have all been waiting for… when the Balmoral show will finally take place! For the next two weekends, Chesapeake Homes will be hosting the Balmoral Home Show. One of Chesapeake Homes’ newest and already beloved communities, Balmoral is a hidden gem of Suffolk. Today begins the final count down before the Chesapeake Homes Silent Auction. T-minus two days! Just a recap for all of you who might not remember, Chesapeake Homes is holding one of the most exciting Silent Auctions Wake Forest has ever seen. From prizes like a new Michael Kors handbag to front row seats to the Carolina Hurricanes Hockey game. OR tickets to the big NCSU vs. Wake Forest football game.

All proceeds from the Silent Auction will go directly to Susan G. Komen North Carolina Triangle to the Coast Affiliate. Race For the Cure With Us!

This weekend on Saturday, Chesapeake Homeswill be running like the wind in the annual Race for the Cure®. We have been a major supporter of the Susan G. Komen Tidewater Affiliate for years, and always plan to be. Make sure to keep an eye out for our team, Chest-A-Peake Homes, we will be walking, jogging and running to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Our area has a higher instance rate of breast cancer, and the local affiliate awards grants that help keep a large percentage of the funds raised here in our area, where the people who need help, can get it. Come out to the race and receive a free Komen tote bag from us! You will also have the chance to register for a $100 Visa gift card to spend on whatever your heart desires.

To make this year’s race even more fun, there will be a special theme… tutus! From little girls to dads, all participants will be showing off their tutus while they run. Join us this weekend in making this year’s race awesome, and run for all of the people affected by breast cancer!

Clear your calendars for the next three weekends of October (4^th-5^th, 10^th-12^thand 17^th-19^th). Starting this weekend from 12-5, the Durham, Orange & Chatham Counties will be presenting their Parade of Homes! During the same three weekends Wake County will be hosting their 49^thAnnual Parade of Homes. That means double the fun. Chesapeake Homes will have homes participating in both parades so make sure to make it out to at least one of these opportunities.

The Parade of Homes is the time of year when builders open their newest and most stunning homes for the public to view the latest floorplan layouts, architectural features and interior designs of 2014. Whether you are planning on buying, building or just admiring a home, both of these parades will be events you won’t want to miss.

Salute to Our Military at Homearama

What is Homearama anyway? It is only the most anticipated time of the year for homebuyers, and architecture admirers everywhere. Homearama is a 12-day single site exhibition of completely furnished, landscaped and polished homes that present the latest in design, furnishing, construction and technological innovations.

Basically, where everyone drools over the beautiful homes that are in front of them. This takes place over three consecutive 4-day weekends from October 17^ththrough November 3^rd. From noon to 8pm you can come by and see all of these beautiful posh yet expensive homes for yourself.

Recognizing everything the military does for us.

During the last week of this showcasing, Homearama will be celebrating the military. The theme will be “Salute to the Military” where veterans’ support groups will be on hand to talk about patriot guard riders, combat veteran riders, freedom hunters, toys-for tots etc. In the third house USO, Honor and Remember, Children of Fallen Patriot and other programs will be portrayed. Chesapeake Homes Rides the Tide In

Last Friday night ♬ Chesapeake Homes made an appearance at the Tides game and watched them beat the Gwinnitt Braves 5-0! For all of you non-baseball fans out there, the Norfolk Tides are the Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and 5-0 is pretty impressive. Chesapeake Homes has always been a strong sponsor of the Norfolk Tides, and clearly have become their good luck charm.

With our smiling sales agents greeting you at the front door, everyone had a great time at the game. We have been to three home games this season and love connecting with the fans in our community. A number of our sales agents, as well as the president of Chesapeake Homes, were out there supporting our local baseball team. On September 9^th, 2014 at Bide-A-Wee Golf Course in Portsmouth, Chesapeake Homes will be holding the Tee Off For The Cure! Continuing our support of Komen for the past four years, the money raised during the tournament will go towards the Susan G. Komen foundation to help all of those affected by breast cancer.

This Tee Off tournament is one of many of the fundraising events Chesapeake Homes has done throughout the years for Susan G. Komen. Chesapeake Homes and Wakefield Development joined forces with Operation: Coming Home and the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County and built a new home for Army Ranger Nathan Rimpf. Nathan received the key to his new home on Thursday, November 7th during a special ceremony at Renaissance Park.

On July 8, 2012, Nathan’s life changed. While serving in eastern Afghanistan as part of the 2nd Battalion 16th Infantry as a platoon leader, Nathan stepped on a mine severely damaging both of his legs resulting in amputations. As a result of Nathan’s drive and determination, he can now walk, and even run, with the use of his “new” legs. He has made tremendous strides in his recovery and therapy at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. While not yet officially released from Walter Reed, Nathan plans to move into his new home by the first of the year. During construction of his home, he regularly traveled back and forth to Raleigh and met with Chesapeake Homes about the floor plans, and how his new home would be built specifically to accommodate his disability with wider doorways, seamless thresholds, a special chair lift on the stairs and kitchen and bathroom modifications.

Chesapeake Homes and Wakefield Development are proud to have built Nathan’s home, located in Renaissance Park in Raleigh, North Carolina, by partnering with many of their existing vendors and subcontractors, and to have provided nearly 100% donated materials and labor for the home’s construction.

Chesapeake Homes North Carolina celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Parade of Homes models!

While many people break out the fall colors every October, those of us effected by or who know someone with breast cancer, we tend to turn everything pink! Chesapeake Homes is a proud supporter of the Susan G. Komen Triangle to the Coast affiliate, and this past October we turned three of our Parade of Homes models into Komen homes with survivor stories, Komen messages and décor, and even planned events on certain weekends throughout the month.

Chesapeake Homes partnered with the Triangle affiliate and several local garden shops and nurseries to host a Growing Awareness workshop at their sales models in the Traditions, Kitts Creek and Renaissance Park communities. There was also Komen Kornhole boards on hand for visitors to play and win a prize. One survivor stopped by to admire her portrait in the Traditions model in Wake Forest. Ellen Baker, a breast cancer survivor stopped during her tour of the Parade of Homes to have her picture taken beside her portrait in the foyer of Komen model.

Just one year ago this coming July 8, Nathan Rimpf’s life changed. While serving in eastern Afghanistan as part of the 2nd Battalion 16th Infantry as a platoon leader, Nathan stepped on a mine severely damaging both of his legs resulting in amputations. Little did he realize then that he would be able to walk. But he can walk and he achieves success through continuing recovery and therapy at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. And little did Nathan realize he would be given an opportunity to become a homeowner. Through Operation Coming Home, Nathan Rimpf was selected to be the recipient of a new home fabricated and custom built to accommodate his life and his disability. Chesapeake Homes and Wakefield Development are generously donating the land and home at Renaissance Park for Nathan, thereby turning a horrible circumstance into a new beginning and opportunity for this special veteran. On June 3, 2013, Nathan, along with his mother and father, met with representatives of Chesapeake Homes to look at the plans for his new home, and to actually see the lot where his new home will be built. Rain Didn’t Dampen Enthusiasm As Chesapeake Homes Sponsored Susan G. Komen Triangle to the Coast Race for the Cure® on June 8th!

It was looking rather bleary on Friday, June 7th. It was the day before the BIG RACE, and the skies had opened up and torrential rains fell as Tropical Storm Andrea charged up the Eastern seaboard. Rumors spread there’d be no race. Almost 20,000 racers and walkers held their collective breath, as did so many sponsors and volunteers who made commitments to come out on Saturday, June 8 and support, race or walk in the Susan G. Komen Triangle to the Coast’s Race for the Cure.
As if by some miracle, Saturday morning dawned with no rain. While it was muddy and still damp, and cloud-covered skies painted the campus of Meredith College in Raleigh with a pale grey color - the survivors, the participants and everyone who came out for the cause saw nothing but a clear moment in time.

Chesapeake Homes’ North Carolina division became a Platinum Sponsor of Komen at the start of 2013, joining their sister division in Virginia who’s been Komen sponsor of their regional affiliate since 2010. Armed with over 2,000 reusable grocery totes emblazed with the corporate Komen message, “Building Awareness for Breast Cancer,” Chesapeake Homes set up “camp” in their sponsorship tent ready to greet the participants and supporters. The crowds were steady in spite of the forecast. Chesapeake Homes offered a drawing for $100 VISA Gift Card for all those who entered by filling out a registration form in exchange for one of the totes. Lucky Linda Gebel of Durham was the fortunate winner. “I never win anything! This comes as such as surprise,” she gushed when contacted about her prize. Linda immediately drove to meet up with Chesapeake Homes/HOW sales representative Danya Bizzell at Renaissance Park to collect her gift card.

Toys for 'Lil' Troops Event

In 2010, The United States Veterans Corps reached out to Renaissance Park to become the major sponsor and site for an annual holiday event that would include a toy drive called “Toys for Lil’ Troops” for deployed parents' children and would honor the service and dedication of our troops. After two successful years, Renaissance Park is pleased to host this wonderful event again this year on Saturday, December 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

With a lot of help from volunteers and additional sponsors, the event has been a huge success. Truck loads of toys have been delivered to Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune, and this year, it is hopeful that another successful drive will be able to fulfill the wish lists for children that might not have Christmas without this toy drive. As "Toys For 'Lil' Troops" has gotten bigger and better each year, thousands of people and children have enjoyed the event and participated in the toy drive. This year another military base has been added for toy delivery - Seymour Johnson - increasing the joy for hundreds of children with deployed parents across North Carolina.

Please help by bringing new unwrapped toys to the Renaissance Park Visitor Center now through Dec. 1st and make 2012 the best year yet for giving back to our troops and their families! Richard Stanhope Pullen founded History Pullen Park on March 22, 1887. Once farmland, Mr. Pullen donated the land as a gift to the City of Raleigh to be used as parkland. Through his visions, Pullen Park became the first public park in North Carolina.

A main attraction of Pullen Park is the Amusement Center. Adored by generations of Raleigh's citizens, Pullen Park is the fifth oldest operating amusement park in the United States and the sixteenth oldest in the world.

Enjoy Saint Patrick’s Day Fun Near Your Chesapeake Homes’ Neighborhood!

You don’t have to be Irish to enjoy the fun and festivities of St. Patrick’s Day! All around Hampton Roads, there will be parties, parades and even marathons to bring o’ little green to the annual celebration of shamrocks, pots of gold and leprechauns. Our neighborhoods are close enough for you and your family to get to any one of these events, and still be home in time to enjoy some corned beef and cabbage.

   In Virginia Beach, you can celebrate two weekends, first with the Shamrock the Block party at the Virginia Beach Town Center on Sat., March 10 from noon to 7 p.m. There be face painting, Celtic games, Celtic dancers, and live entertainments with refreshments available for sale. The next weekend kicks off the annual Shamrock Marathon at the oceanfront starting on Friday the 16th with race registration and and a Sports & Fitness Expo. Sat., the 17th, mini-races for kids, and then the big marathon on Sunday, the 18th.

   In Norfolk’s Ocean View, there’ll be the 45th Annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade stepping off at 10:00 a,m. on March 17, 2012. There’ll even be an After Parade Party, presented by the Columbian Club of Ocean View starting at noon at the Knights of Columbus Lot featuring live bands Hotcakes and Bill Deals The Original Rhondels with plenty of food and refreshments available as well.

   It’s incredible to think where interest rates are right now, and how opportunistic the time is to consider buying a home.   In fact, for six weeks in a row, interest rates have been below 4%.    This is an all important step before you even consider browsing model homes. Most people start by walking into a model and then figuring if they can even afford to buy. But smart shoppers do their homework first. 5. Balance your checkbook regularly to prevent checks from bouncing. Bounced checks negatively impact your credit report. Consult with your financial institution about U.S. Bank Overdraft Protection.

6. Make it a point to pay your bills on time, as late payments effect your report too. Look into automatic payments online for reminders on due dates.

Festive, Family Fun At Raleigh's First Night Celebration

For the past 20 years, downtown Raleigh has come alive on New Year's Eve offering residents of this beautiful Southern city an opportunity to ring in the new year with a blend of food, music, cultural and entertainment options in an alcohol-free environment perfect for family members and residents of all ages.

Taking up a 20 block area of downtown Raleigh, First Night Raleigh 2012 will feature comedy, dance, spoken word, interactive art installations, and live music from a variety of performers including rock, blues, jazz, gospel, opera, singer-songwriters and more. The celebration this year takes on a French-inspired theme with many of the celebration’s dozens of performances
and activities designed to reflect French influences, including the planned installation of a giant 90-foot Ferris wheel, dubbed “La Grande Roue de Raleigh,” in the 100 and 200 Blocks of Fayetteville Street. The festivities will also include perennial First Night Raleigh favorites like the African American Dance Ensemble, Transactors Improv Company, Comedy Worx and the Lenny Marcus Trio who all plan to adapt their First Night performances to reflect this year’s French theme.
