10A4 FCSE Exams

Pupils in 10A4 FCSE are due to sit their listening and reading exams for the module they are currently studying for their FCSE French qualification. These exams do go towards their final grade and as such, attendance to the exams is vital unless there is a prior medical arrangement or exceptional circumstance. The exams will take place on Thursday 5th June at 9 am (during their scheduled French lesson) in the hall.

Sport Relief

On Thursday 20th March Maplesden Sixth Form students are running a 7 hour football game on the 3G pitch to raise money for
the charity. Mitchell Chirnside, Mikey Dalton and Connor Charlton have organised the event which includes games between Year
7/8, 9/10, 11/12 and a stand-off between Year 13 students and Staff! There will also be a raffle on the day with the chance
to win a Tour of Wembley Stadium.

Sixth Form Open Evening

Maplesden Sixth Form Open Evening is on Tuesday 19th November from 7-9pm. A brief talk will take place in the hall at 7pm. You will then have the opportunity to visit departments and discuss subject choices that may be of interest to you. Also, be sure to have a look at what Ofsted had to say about our Sixth Form in the October 2013 report.

New Sixth Form Cafe

Over the summer holidays our Sixth Form cafe received a makeover. As well as this the study room has also been extended making way for the largest Sixth Form the school has ever had.
With a total of 115 year 12s starting this academic year and 100 year 13s we decided to create more space. With a new floor, tables the cafe looks a lot fresher and more spacious.
The extended Study Area means all students have equal opportunities to complete work in their study sessions.
There are now 48 computers available for Sixth Formers to use in the Study Area as well as 24 laptop stations.

ID Cards!

Maplesden Sixth Form have introduced a new way for all Sixth Form students to be recognised. Every student will now carry on them an ID card which shows they are part of the school.
The cards are also linked to the new school printing system allowing students to scan them to log into their account. This makes printing a whole lot quicker for students saving them from having to type in their log in and password. Some Sixth Form students have successfully used these cards as Student Identification and therefore obtain student discounts in the local area.

Bewl Water Induction Day

On Wednesday 11th September Year 12 had their induction trip to Bewl Water. The aim of the trip was to encourage team work and build good relationships with their peers. For new students this was particularly helpful as it gave them the opportunity to get involved and make new friends.
Over the course of the day Year 12 took part in a range of activities which involved using certain skills like team building. Some of the activities included raft building and kayaking. As you can imagine with the rain during the day and all of the swimming a lot of people were soaked by the end of the day. Howewver, most didn’t seem too fussed by the bad weather and made the most of the day.

Business Challenge 2013

Year 12 recently took part in the 8th Annual Business Challnege with the Awards Evening on Wednesday 10th July. The huge increase in numbers in the Sixth Form meant this was the biggest Business Challenge yet with 17 local and national businesses taking part. The winning team won £1000. The video below gives a real insight into the students journey from training to prize giving.

Year 12 Business Challenge and End of Term arrangements

The last day of this academic year for Year 12 students will be on Thursday 11th July. If students complete the AS part of their courses prior to this, teachers will use this time to begin teaching the A2 part of the course.

The Business Challenge is a compulsory project for all Year 12 students. This begins on Thursday 20th June and will continue until the end of term. For more information, please speak to Mrs Tansill in the Sixth Form Study Area.

Year 13 Study Leave

Year 13 Study Leave begins after Friday 17th May. However, many Sixth Form teachers have arranged intensive revisions sessions. Students should check with teachers for information on these. Also, students accessing BTEC courses may need to continue to attend some lessons in order to complete final units.

The year 11 boys have made it to the District cup final after a nervous 2-1 win over Holmesdale.

The final will be on Friday the 3rd of May at 7.30pm, details can be found here.

This is a brilliant achievement, and will be a great evening for the boys.

Kent Schools Golf Division 1 Tournament

On Monday 22nd April 2013 James Whyte (9S) and Connor Wood (10M) competed in the Kent Schools Division 1 tournament at Knole Park Golf Course. With their respective handicaps of 8 and 12 both played some good Golf on a testing course, trying their best to avoid the deer!
James posted gross scores of 84 and a net score of 76, whilst unfortunately Connor’s score did not register. Both will be looking forward to the team tournament at Broome Park on Monday 24th June.
