Pinterest finally open registration to the public

After two years of Pinterest's way of registering users through user invitation, they finally give way and made it open to the public.

Pinterest announced through their blog:
“We’re really excited to have the capacity to offer Pinterest to more people and if you’re a Pinner with friends who’ve been waiting on the sidelines, we hope you’ll let them know. Happy pinning to everyone!”

After the announcement, anyone can now register to their site using your twitter, facebook or an email account.

Pinterest hits 10 million unique US visitors way back last February and continued to grow up. A clear sign that their invitation to join style of registration would give way sooner to increase their users more.

Word Lens translator app, now available for Android

The first Word Lens app came available to the mobile community last 2010 and unfortunately, was only available on iOS devices. Due to this unavailability, a number of mobile users asked for an Andoird version. So now, the developers of Word Lens app, Quest Visual, finally heard the people's plea by making it available on Android through Google Play.

The Word Lens translates captured texts/words on an Android device's camera from one language to another. The app includes an optical character recognition and a dictionary making it functional without an internet connection. To add with the original packed language translation, Quest Visual added Italian/English and French/English pairs to the original Spanish/English language translation which are now available on both iOS and Android platforms. Google launches first Chromebox for Desktop

Today, Google, together with its partner Samsung, launched a new Chromebook and it's first Desktop Chromebox.

The new Chromebook comes with a promising speed that is significantly faster than the other Samsung Series.

This new version of Chromebook also has an Intel Core chip, an HD camera, a 4GB of RAM, 2 USB 2.0 ports and a 1280x800 display resolution.

Other than that, Google also release its first Chromebox, a Mac Mini-like desktop version of Chromebook with more ports than Chromebook except that an SD card reader is missing.

Pricing for Chromebook starts at $449 for the WiFi-only version. While $239 for the new Chromebox.

Just today, May 15, 2012, Nokia announced the release of the new Nokia 110 and Nokia 112 models. These models are dual-SIM capable which should be very catchy to Asian / Indian Markets offering money-saving features.

Mouse problem on Google Chrome tabs

Today, I came to a problem with my Google Chrome browser.

I was seriously doing my work when my AOC CRT monitor act weirdly and zoomed in my display in the middle of the screen about half of its size smaller.

Since, there's an available PC on my side, I decided to access my PC remotely.

After a while my work resume. When suddenly, everytime I click a tab on my Chrome browser, it automatically close. I decided to click a few more tabs and all of them closed.

I was thinking that the remote connection might be the reason. So I tried searching for clues on the internet. I have read one suggesting that it might be a cause of some viruses, so I automatically updated my AV and did a scan.

I continued reading until I came to the right reason and exact solution to the problem.

Problem:

The problem was in my mouse.

Explanation:

Chrome tabs normally close when you click it using the scroll wheel button.

When for some other reasons, your mouse scroll button jams, everytime you click using your left mouse button, will be registered as a scroll button click on your PC.

And that's what happened to my mouse.

Solution:

So what I did, I tried fixing it, just do whatever you think you can do to unjam it. And after that, my Chrome tabs won't close again when left clicked.

This problem occurs in almost all brands and types of mouse with scroll wheel button including Microsoft, Logitech, etc.

Is Intel using cheap thermal paste in Ivy Bridge?

According to reviewers, the Ivy Bridge Processor has been running a little hotter than overclockers liked.

Overclockers.net found out that regular thermal paste between the CPU die and the outwardly visible heatspreader is the possible cause.

Japanese site PC Watch launch a test by replacing the stock thermal paste in a Core i7-3770K with a bit expensive alternative to see the result. What they found out? The temperatures dropped by 18 percent against stock while overclocked temperatures dropped by 23 percent which significantly shows that better thermal solutions allowed the Ivy Bridge to sustain higher core voltages and core clock speeds and deliver greater performance.

T-Mobile just announced that it will be launching One S on April 25, for $199.99.

One S is equipped with an HSPA+ connectivity, which for sure would take advantage on T-Mobiles 42Mbps speed. Aside from the several ways to explore the planet, Google Earth recently added some aerial imagery captured from ordinary balloons and kites!

The Public Laboratory for Open Technology and Science initiated the first batch of photos. With this, Google hopes that people may contribute to this to expand all available views. Mass production of flexible e-paper display started by LG

Just a few days ago, LG announced that it has started mass production of a 6 inch e-paper with a 1024 x 768 resolution capable to bend up to 40 degrees. Although there were no press release yet, some Korean publications reported that plastic-based screen are shipped to Chinese manufacturers to start building the device.

LG stated that the display is as thin as a protective film for a phone's screen, approximately 0.7 mm thick. Some reports said that a 1.5 meter drop test was done with no damage done. A great problem that e-Book readers have today is the incapability of accessing one file downloaded for a specific device to another device. For example, a book bought from Amazon can only be read from Kindle e-reader's. It can't be read on another devices. Google Changes Android Market to Google Play and was launch just yesterday, March 26, 2012, making it a one-stop shop for apps, e-books, music and more. The changes varies worldwide though, as it will only offer movies, books and apps on some countries and only books and apps on another. Android SDK updated, emulator now supports x86

Google just updated its Software Development Kit (SDK) to revision 17 with new features and bug fixes.

Additionally, x86 is now supported natively using emulator on Windows and Mac OS X. The previous
Android emulator didn't do well because of it's speed. But Google says the emulator now runs almost same as the native speed with the help of Intel. An experimental support for multitouch is also present from a tethered Android device to help developers test their software more realistically on PCs. Consumer says the new iPad runs a little hotter than it's predecessor the iPad 2 by 5.3 degrees.

Website Tweakers.net tested both iPad2 and iPad3 under an infrared camera to take thermal image. Apple iPad Launching in 10 Countries March 16 8am

According to Apple, the new iPad will go on sale at 8am local time on March 16, that's tomorrow, in 10 countries.
The launch date was already known since last week, except for the time 8am which appears to be a new information.
This countries includes: US, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, and the UK.

Nokia Windows 8 Tablet Coming

A new 10 inch screen tablet from Nokia is rumored to be launch this 4th quarter of the year. It's equipped with a Windows 8 based tablet OS and runs on a Dual-Core Qualcomm ARM processor with Snapdragon S4 Krait as its expected chip inside.

Compal is expected to be the tablet's builder and is estimated to make around 200,00 of it. No specific design is shown yet, but is expected to look similar on the pictures above and below.

Nokia previously commented that it will be joining the tablet manufacturing world but in different forms. "We continue to eye the tablet space with interest, but we have not announced any specific plans." - according to Nokia in a statement to SlashGear.
