drama and sometimes with a hint of comedy. Lenses help me record my life's moments and I preserve them by digiscrapping. I live each day as if it were my last. I'm a loyal friend but a dangerous enemy. Last but not the least, I am a MOM with a soft heart and a firm hand.

<atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="self" type="application/rss+xml" href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/yayaba" />
<atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="hub" href="http://pubsubhubbub.appspot.com/" />

Monday Mayhem: Inspirations

Q1. What inspires your more- 3 loads of laundry that needs to be put away or a TV preacher?
** 3 loads of laundry that needs to be put away. Don't get me wrong. I believe in God and I am inspired by God. But I am just cynical about TV preachers.

Q2. What do inflated gas prices inspire you to do?
** It inspires me to plan my travels ahead. Normally, I wouldn't do that.

Q3. What has inspired you over the past week?
** The fact that my family and real friends will always be there for me no matter what.

And now, let me just share with you something that I found interesting and inspirational from a 5-year old kid. Well, we could all use this advice.

Have a wonderful week ahead. :)

Today we ripped off a blogger named Mary Warner from the blog The Woo Woo Teacup Journal. She explains the she was tagged for the meme from the blogger and meme named Manjo. But, it was probably stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. Link back to us at Sunday Stealing!

1. If your lover betrayed you, what will your reaction be?
** Been there, done that, never again. And that applies to friends too.

2. If you can have a dream to come true, what would it be?
** To travel and get to see all the interesting places of the world with DS.

3. What is the one thing most hated by you?
** Traitors.

4. What would you do with a billion dollars?
** That's a lot. The money will definitely help a lot of people who need 'em.

5. Could you fall in love with your best friend?
** No. But then again, who can tell.

6. Which is more blessed, loving someone or being loved by someone?
** Loving someone. Although, it would be better if it could be both, right?

7. How long do you intend to wait for someone you really love?
** God knows when to give me that.

8. If the person you secretly like is already attached, what would you do?
** Easy to say but hard to do. Still, I'll have to let it go.

9. If you'd like to act (movies, stage) with someone, who would it be?
** Matthew Morrison

10. What do you expect of your loved one?
** It's hard to set expectations. But at least an honest and faithful loved one would be nice to have.

11. How would you see yourself in ten years time?
** Hopefully, all secured and settled.

12. What’s your fear?
** Fear of dying unexpectedly.

13. Would you rather be single and rich or married, but poor?
** Single and rich

14. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
** Check on my phone.

15. Do you ever hold back in a relationship?
** No.

16. If you fell in love with two people simultaneously, how would you pick?
** That's tough. Probably, I'll choose that one whom I think loves me more.

17. Would you forgive and forget no matter how horrible a thing that special someone has done?
** Forgive, yes. Forgetting takes time. But it will eventually happen.

18. What are your three most important expectations in love?
** Honesty, faithfulness, responsibility

Have a great and blessed Sunday!

What initially was thought to be harmless eventually turns out to be harmful in more ways than one.

The pandora's box of memories suddenly begin to haunt and hurt you. Once again, you get stabbed by the reality of the pain that was thought to be long gone. And only then will you realize that you really shouldn't have...

To play, either post any video you want to share (except any McD's fight video) and/or answer the questions below.

Have Fun!

This has been one of my LSS(es) for so many weeks now. I'm mushy and cheesy. Admit it or not, it's a great song!

Q1. What brand/flavor of chewing gum would you recommend to the rest of us?
** I like the peppermint chewing gum from Starbucks. But if it's not available, any sugar-free chewing gum would be good for me.

Q2. What brand/flavor of beverage would you recommend to the rest of us?
** Coke Zero's great so far. But of course, nothing beats water.

Q3. Describe the perfect steak (vegetarian's can describe the perfect tofu or whatever).
** Any steak cooked medium-well is edible for me.

Thanks for playing! Have a great Week!

It's been more than a month since I last set my fingers on my desktop and cleaned this place I call my home.

While I was busy cleaning and clearing out stuff that have accumulated over the past month or so, big thoughts were running like crazy in this little head of mine. I have neglected so much because of the accident and I'm wondering how I can get to run this crazy life of mine back to how it was before. Believe it or not, I'm not an expert when it comes to recovery. It's a waterloo that I have long ago accepted as part of me.

Anyway, since my physical self is still under recovery, I'm leaving you with the top 10 things that I so want to do when I'm 100% back to my "normal" self. I just wanted to share so if you're not interested, it doesn't really matter. I'm still the writer of this entry anyway. Hah!

Top 10 Things I'd Like to Do When I'm Better

01. Go on a spiritual retreat.
02. Go on a road trip - alone (Thanks to Matt for giving me the inspiration to finally be able to plan for this one).
03. Get that botched trip to the Ilocos region back on my calendar.
04. Make sure that I always wear non-slip shoes.
05. Plan and stick to a walking regimen until I can start running.
06. Be able to sleep at least 6 hours each night (I'll start tomorrow. LOL!).
07. Get all the financial sh*t done.
08. Do some volunteer work (I'm still actively searching for one).
09. Write more.
10. Worry less.

And with that, I say: "Good night!"

Sunday Stealing: The "It's All About Four Freakin' Things" Meme

Catching up on all the memes I participate in every week. :)
For one, money doesn't grow in trees so we have to be prudent in our spending and we should learn to take calculated risks in terms of investments that we want to have to secure our future.

Take for example this lot for sale that I saw while browsing through pages of land properties on sale. Corner lots are a little bit pricey than other lots because of proximity and visibility but they are the most sought-after because of its higher value than other lots situated in other parts of the subdivision or village. Though located north of Metro Manila, the location is still considered prime, Pampanga being one of the fastest developing provinces that's about half an hour away from the city. Accessibility to NLEX to and from Manila, makes it an ideal buy, especially for those who are seeking to build houses away from the daily city life grind but still maintaining that proximity to the greater Manila area.

As it is, a lot of people are already seeing the lucrative side of the real estate buy and sell business due to the fact that it's one of the most secure investments one could ever have. As most working class people save up for their dream homes, a lot of these real estate agents and part-timers have been very good in offering terms for properties that are appropriate, size- and budget-wise. The real estate business is a booming industry and both buyers and sellers have been getting their way with it.

Knowing how to price a lot for sale or pricing a house and lot for that matter takes knowing the current trends and prices in the market and not just a matter of hunches or estimates. It does include knowing competitor prices, existing legal and registration fees (which vary from one area to another), inflation rate and other financial drivers to ensure that you are offering the best deal to a prospective buyer. Knowing the legalities involved in purchasing properties are also essential in venturing into the real estate business. Knowing the buy and sell business takes time and experience. And it need not be rushed either. Most newbies should definitely ask from experienced sellers and agents and should not be afraid to ask questions. They should also be open to the possibility of making mistakes and learning from them as they go along.

All together, property hunting is tedious but a rewarding experience. In the end, knowing that the long hours you spent at work and saving up your hard-earned money was able to provide you with a home that secures your family's future.

Coming out

It entailed going back to some of the most painful parts of my life and discussing the current ones that I have.
Surprisingly, after a couple of minutes, it all came easy for me. I think it was because I needed to let it out. I have said a mouthful but yeah, it felt good after.
And with that, I can say that I've come out.
"Sent via BlackBerry from Smart"

Reblogged: 45 Tips for a Happier, Simpler and More Productive Life

I read this from Jenni Epperson's blog and I'm reblogging this because it's a timely reminder for all of us.
45 Tips for a Happier, Simpler and More Productive Life
Written by Alex Blackwell
Every now and then we need a nudge, a
little extra help. Life can be challenging and
sometimes it can test our resolve, determination and faith. When life surprises
us with a pop-quiz, it's good to know where
we can find some of the answers.
The following 45 tips are by no means a
comprehensive list, but rather a cheat-sheet
of sorts to keep some of the most basic
answers in front of us.
1. Notice what's right in your life
Some see the glass as being half-full while
others see the glass as half-empty. This
expression goes straight to the heart of the
power of positive thinking and taking the
time to notice what's working – and then
doing more of it!
2. Be grateful
How many times do you say the words "thank you," in a day? How many times do
you hear these same words? If you are doing the first thing, saying"thank you",
the latter will naturally happen.
3. Remember the kid you were
As adults, we sometimes forget how to play,
how to relax, or just how to be a kid again.
We succumb to expectations we think are
imposed on us. This keeps us from feeling
the joy and happiness of just cutting loose
and playing.
4. Be kind
There is no question by merely watching
acts of kindness creates a significant
elevation in our moods and increases the
desire for us to perform good deeds as well.
Kindness is indeed contagious and when we
make a commitment to be kind to ourselves
and to others we can experience new
heights of joy, happiness and enthusiasm
for our lives.
4. Spend time with your friends
Although an abundant social and romantic
life does not itself guarantee happiness, it
does have a huge impact on our happiness.
Learn to make the friendships a priority in
your life.
6. Savor every moment
To be in the moment is to live in the
moment. Too often we are thinking ahead or
looking ahead to the next event or
circumstance in our lives, not appreciating
the"here and now." When we savor every
moment, we are savoring the happiness in
our lives.
7. Rest
Take the time to unwind, decompress, or to
put it simply, just"to chill." Life comes at us
hard and fast. Fatigue, stress and exhaustion may begin to settle in on us
faster than we may think, or notice. The best remedy for this is rest.
8. Put on a happy face
Sometimes we have to fake it until we make
it. I'm not suggesting we not be honest, real
or authentic, but I'm suggesting, sometimes, we just need to put on a happy
face and keep moving forward. Researchers
claim that smiling and looking like we are
happy will make us happier. Studies further
show if we act like we are happy then we
can experience greater joy and happiness in
our lives.
9. Move!
The expression a "runner's high" does not
infer an addiction, but a feeling or a state of
mind– a state of euphoria. There is no
question exercise, or any physical exertion,
elevates your mood and enhances a more
positive attitude as well as fosters better
personal self-esteem and confidence.
10. Pursue your goals
The absence of goals in our lives, or more
specifically avoiding to pursue our goals,
makes us feel like we are stuck and
ineffective. The pursuit of goals in our
personal lives, with our relationships, or at
work, with our careers, is the difference
between a mediocre life or a life full of
passion and enthusiasm.
11. Finding your calling
Some find meaning in religion or spirituality
while others find purpose in their work or
relationships. Finding your calling may be
much more than accomplishing one simple
strategy for increasing your happiness, but
having a sense of purpose– of feeling like
you are here for a reason – can perhaps
bring the greatest happiness of all.
12. Get into the flow
Flow is the form of joy, excitement and
happiness that occurs when we are so
absorbed in an activity we love that we can
loose ourselves and time seems to stand
still. What creates flow is unique to each one
of us.
13. Play to your strengths
One way to achieve flow is by understanding and identifying our strengths
and core values, and then begin to use these every day. Once we aware of our strengths and we begin to play to our
strengths, we can better incorporate them
in all aspects of our lives.
14. Don't overdo it
Know when to say when. What gives you
joy and happiness the first time may not
work the second time. Too much of a good
thing may begin not to feel as good if the
"thing" becomes more of a routine, or an
expectation. Set healthy and reasonable
boundaries for yourself and don't overdo it.
15. Forget regret
Leave your mistakes and regret in the past.
They don't define your value, then or now.
When you stay in the past you become
stuck and unable to move forward. We all
have made mistakes with our job choices,
friends and relationships. The consequences
can hit us pretty hard. However, to begin
learning how to put these experiences
behind us – by letting them go, we can
begin to live in the here and now.
16. Learn from failure
Learning from failure and having regret are
two separate things. Regret is an emotion; a
feeling of disappointment along with a
modest amount of shame or guilt. But to
look back at a circumstance and figure out
what went wrong gives you some very
important information.
17. Ask for help
You are not alone. It may feel that way
sometimes, but there are many people who
would extend their hand and lift you up if
asked. All you have to do is ask. Often times
we are afraid to ask because we don't
believe we are worthy to receive the help.
Think about this: we are surrounded by
millions and millions of people by design–
for a purpose.
18. Believe you are worthy
Whatever your goal, your dream, or your
desire, you are worthy of achieving it. The
closer you get to it is when the enemy of
your soul will begin putting doubt in your
mind. Replace doubt with the truth– you
are worthy to have your heart's true desire.
19. Take 100% responsibility
Except in rare and unfortunate circumstances, you are responsible for the
quality and condition of your life. Your career, your relationships and your happiness are all under your direct control.
Avoid finger-pointing and embrace the
control you have in your life.
20. Know what you want
Understanding what and where you want to
go in life will provide you with a vision and
an insatiable spirit for the journey. Here's a
simple way to figure out what you want:
Take a sheet a paper and write down all of
the things you want in life. The one that
jumps off the page and causes you to cry is
what you want most. Honor this one and
nurture it. And if you allow, it will take you
to where you go.
21. Trust
There are no accidents without value. When
you get hit hard and land on your back, look
for the reasons and for the value in this.
Open your heart and trust this happened for
a reason.
22. Keep the faith
At the end of the day when you are weary
from all of the effort and energy you have
expended and you are sore and tired from
being hit hard so many times, but the
dream is not realized, the one thing that
tells you to keep going; to get up tomorrow
and to keep moving forward, is your faith.
23. Get in touch with your life
Get in touch with the areas in your life you
would like to change and have more
success. Don't try to boil the ocean in a
short period of time. Rather, consider three
"quick wins" in the next several months
that will help you with creating new habits
and will build the foundation to support
longer term success.
24. Make a list
Write down the three things you want to do
differently in the next few months, things
you are not doing now, but would like to
begin to do that will give you a greater
sense of success, accomplishment and
purpose in your life.
25. Perform new actions
Performing new actions will lead to creating
new habits. Be aware of the habits you want
to learn to change. Also be aware that the
bad habits may interfere with your progress.
Acknowledge these bad habits and don't
give them the power to keep you from
moving forward.
26. Share
There seems to be a higher sense of
accountability when things are shared. Tell
your partner or best friend what you want
accomplish and by when. Sharing also gives
you a safer venue to discuss your fears and
concerns.
27. Communicate in your marriage or relationship
Good marriages and relationships depend
on expressing your thoughts and emotions
to each other, of speaking and being heard.
If not, everything else will live on shaky
ground. In order to have a successful
relationship you have to make yourself an
expert in communicating with your partner.
28. Learn to resolve conflicts in your
marriage or relationship
If your partner simply wants something
different from you or does something
differently from you, it doesn't mean that
your partner is wrong – it just means your
spouse has different preferences, life
experiences and point of view. Celebrate
these differences. Chances are very good it
is these very differences that made you fall
in love with this person in the first place.
29. Maintain a commitment to your
marriage or relationship
This can be especially difficult today with all
of the distractions of our daily lives, but it's
important that you put your relationship
first. If you're committed to making it a
success, and you know that your partner
shares your commitment, there's nothing
the two of you can't accomplish.
30. Get healthy
We spend hundreds and thousands of
dollars a year on things that make us sick
and lead to all sorts of other costs. So kick
that smoking habit, go out drinking two
nights a week instead of four, or ride your
bike to work.
31. Smarter Saving and Spending: Buy
Homegrown
Local craftsmen, farmers, and retailers offer
unique items at prices that don't include
shipping and handling charges, which have
increased exponentially of late due to the
sky-rocketing cost of fuel.
32. Smarter Saving and Spending: Buy Used
Used clothes can be passed off as vintage,
so why the stigma on other previously
owned items? Most used items are perfectly
functional and many have developed an
endearing and priceless layer of character.
33. Smarter Saving and Spending: Don't Buy Extended Warranties
If you're buying that new laptop or plasma
television, use your major credit card and it
will likely lengthen the warranty just as far
as the plan that will cost you hundreds of
extra dollars at.
34. Stop doing what's not working in your life
Comfort can be your biggest obstacle to
growth and happiness. Take an honest look
at your own life. Are you doing things you
know don't work; but you keep doing them
nonetheless because either you are too
scared to try something new or you don't
know any other way?
35. Try on things you've never done before to see if they work
In order to find the success and happiness
you are looking for in life, you must be
willing to take risks. Perhaps the most
challenging oxymoron in life is in order to
build self-confidence, you must first take
risks.
36. Exercise to help you discover your source of strength
Exercise is indeed a good venue to discover
your source of strength and character. It
builds confidence and instills a spirit that
better connects your mind to your body. It
helps you appreciate the value of goal
setting and ultimately goal attainment. It
creates better life balance. Simply put,
exercise helps you feel better about
yourself.
37. Listen to your body
There is a direct connection between our
physical and mental health. When we are
fatigued our thinking is not as sharp and our
confidence wanes. But when we are rested
and full of energy, our actions are more
deliberate and our results are more
significant. Listen to your body – it will tell
you what you need.
38. Slow down and do nothing
Take about 15 minutes each day and grab a
cup of coffee or tea and give yourself time to
think about whatever it is you want to think
about. You will be surprised at the inspiration that will come to you.
39. Complete one item of your "to do"
list each day
Return the overdue telephone call, clean-up
your email inbox, or get an oil change for
you car. By accomplishing just one thing
that has been gnawing at you, will give you
a much-needed sense of relief and
accomplishment.
40. Perform one act of random kindness daily
Hold the elevator door open for someone
who is a few steps behind you or lift the bag
and place it in the overhead bind on the
airplane for someone who can't manage this
task. Kindness breeds more kindness. The
concept of"paying it forward" is real and
effective.
41. Review your goals
If you have not put your goals in writing, do
this today. There is a direct and proven
correlation between people who have
written, stated goals and their level of
accomplishment compared to people who
do not.
42. Listen, really listen, when someone
is speaking to you
Listen without judgments or criticism. Try to
avoid any self-referencing and be fully present for whoever needs it.
43. Say "I Love You…"
Tell the people who you truly love and cherish this every day. Do so with heart-felt
sincerity. Love them as if this were their, and your, last day on earth. Don't wait; tell them today because there is no day but today.
44. Practice forgiveness
The purpose of giving forgiveness is not to
let the other person off the work, but to free
you of the baggage associated with the
event. When you refuse to forgive, you
remain stuck in that place. With forgiveness
you can begin the process of moving
forward with your life.
45. Give yourself grace and mercy
We all make mistakes – always have and
always will. Perhaps no one is harder on
you, than you. Give yourself grace for your
sins and mistakes. These don't define your
value or purpose in life. Focus on what you
can today, right now, to begin feeling more
comfortable in your own skin. You are
worthy to receive the good fortunes of life
and you are more than enough.
Reblog if you want. This made me smile and it is something good to share anyway.:D
Mornings@ANC had, as one of their guests, a former ABC Beijing chief correspondent and he gave very interesting insights about how the Chinese implement their laws and court decisions.

This afternoon, I caught the Ordinario family press con in the news and I was dismayed with the things I heard. I think it's unfair for Sol Ordinario to say that the government didn't do its best to save the lives of her sister and the two others who were executed. I'm sure the Chinese High Court dealt with the issue properly and according to what their laws are. Why does one have to use poverty as a reason for them not to be given all the help they deserve? For me, it's very clear that everything was done. China just has the balls to stand up and implement their laws to anyone who are found violating them. I admire China for that. Let's all learn from this. Dura lex sed lex. The law is harsh but it is the law.

Don't get me wrong. I grieve and pray that the families will be healed in time. There are no words to console them who lost their loved ones. This is a big lesson for all of us. I just hope that the government will be able to address issues facing our OFWs and for our judiciary, may you be able to uphold all our laws no matter who the accused is.

Let what happened to the 3 Filipinos in China serve as a challenge to ALL our lawmakers and government officials to create laws that will enhance whatever benefits our OFWs have and protect them whenever they are outside our country. This is also a great opportunity for our airport and immigration officials to look into their current screening process to protect our country and our citizens from falling prey to these drug syndicates.

I pray that we will all be healed from this incident.
What's worse was the fact that he was even the one who had the guts to do the dirty finger on me when he was the one who squeezed in his bike despite the lack of road space for it.

Situations like that are normal in Metro Manila streets. There's never a day when you wouldn't hear of an accident involving motorcycles. From their deliberate non-wearing of riding helmets
to drunk driving and racing with trucks - accidents involving motorcycles are already part of our daily lives. And seriously, no matter how many times the motorcycle-riding public is reminded to follow safety and driving rules, I just don't get it why they are constantly ignored.

Having said that, I just hope that I won't have another encounter with a disrespectful motorcycle driver in the very near future.
Please feel free to repost. Thank you!
*Do you know any Fil-Ams in Boston, Massachusetts who can provide free accommodations (and ground transport) for them?
*Do you know any Fil-Ams in Boston who can let them do rehearsals in a warm dance studio?
*Do you know anyone from any airline who can sponsor their airfare?

We have Pacquiao and Azkals for sports, but we also excel in the performing arts, let's do it!

Please forward this to all your benevolent and financially-capable-of-helping-out friends in the Philippines and in America (especially Boston).

Hurry! they don't have much time left! if they don't get the money, they won't be able to go! and no one will represent the Philippines in the competition!

PLEASE PASS ON YOUR INFORMATION ON POSSIBLE CONNECTIONS OR YOUR DONATION TO:
E-mail Address: candice.adea@yahoo.com
Contact Nos.:0917-348-83-13 or 832-36-89

HERE IS THEIR SOLICITATION LETTER:

March 26, 2011
Dear Sir/Madam:

Good day! The Philippines is a very good source of talent when it comes to performing arts. Our singers, actors, and dancers are well-loved and respected around the world for their quality performances. Nevertheless, despite the efforts put in by our performing artists, the Philippines is still striving to keep the country's name afloat in the performing arts map.

To keep this spirit going, the undersigned dancers applied to the 1st Boston International Ballet Competition. We were then preselected from the video elimination round and will continue on in Boston, Massachusetts on May 12-16, 2011. It would be a good way to showcase the artists molded by our country.

However, since most of us dancers are only dependent on our meager salaries, we would like to count on your generosity by helping us with the attendant cost of said competition.

Last year, through the help of benevolent people like you, two of our Filipino dancers garnered recognition in the prestigious USA International Ballet Competition at Jackson, Mississippi. They were able to raise the name of the Philippines in the dance map. Candice Adea was the Silver Medalist while Jean Marc Cordero, the first Filipino male to compete in USAIBC, was a Semi-finalist. This year, we are adding two more dancers to the delegation: Cyril Fallar (1st Place Winner, NAMCYA Ballet Competition) and Philip Rocamora (3rd Place Winner, NAMCYA Ballet Competition.) Considering the level of competition, we will need the guidance of our very own Victor Ursabia, who will serve as our official coach.

We are currently trying to raise 13,200 USD. For your reference, below is the estimated breakdown of the projected expenses.

Plane fare (round trip) to Boston, Massachusetts 1,800 USD x 5 persons = 9,000 USD
Accommodation 70 USD x 7 days x 5 persons 2,450 USD
Food and Transportation Allowance 50 USD x 7 days x 5 persons 1,750 USD
TOTAL 13,200 USD

We would forever be grateful for your help and that we would strengthen our resolve to do our best to win this competition and make the Philippines proud. So many things have happened since January 20th until today. This would probably be a long post so brace yourselves.
It has been an interesting and challenging first quarter for me. Probably a lot more bad than the good stuff but I still consider them as blessings and learning experiences.
In good faith, I and some batchmates helped out an old high school classmate who turned out to be the best fraudster in the world. This story deserves a separate blog entry though.
I was so excited when February came because of the Indonesia getaway that has been in the works for the longest time. Thinking of seeing my brother, my sister-in-law, my nephew and nieces; the prospects of meeting new friends and catching up with the old ones; the Yogyakarta exploration; and spending Valentine's Day weekend in Bali made this trip worth looking forward to. But God had other plans though. The trip got cancelled all together the week before it was supposed to happen due to unforeseen circumstances. Probably Indonesia isn't part of God's plan for me this year.
Funny though, the Indonesia trip was re-routed to Iloilo. It was an unplanned trip for a sad reason. The father of a dear friend died and I wanted to be there for him during those hard times. I traveled alone to an unknown land but it became one of my best travel experiences ever. I will be sparing a blog post for that memorable trip soon.
A week after that Iloilo trip, a bad asthma attack made me spend Valentine's Day weekend at the hospital. So much for even a single lady's night out on V-day!
After that, I thought things were gonna be much better for me but shortly after March began, I got figured in an accident at my own home. I slipped and hit my back and head very hard. Luckily, I didn't have any fracture but the accident strained my neck, shoulder and lower back areas badly. I've been undergoing physical therapy sessions as my left arm and hand were numbed by the accident and I've been wearing a neck collar since then. I'm hoping to be well soon enough to go back to work and be able to go back to my normal routine.
Depressed? May be a bit. But it won't be enough to knock me out. I'm surrounded by the most wonderful friends one can have and my family's been there for me no matter how grumpy I become. I know that this is just a phase - a test that I have to go through in life. I'll make it through these trying times.

I hit my back and head so hard that for a moment there I thought I blacked out. Luckily, I'm still here writing this piece. And as they say, there's always a reason for everything.

And because I was advised to get at least 2 days of complete bed rest, I have been struggling to keep my sanity intact. I kept on thinking of something productive that I can do while I follow the advice of the ER doctor. Then it hit me to play some mushy music from my iTunes playlist while I do that.

I know how I can be so affected just by hearing one song that I have associated with a certain person or event from the past. Hearing these songs become instant triggers for me to remember the joys and pains of my life. These emotions and feelings from the past remind me of my vulnerability and weaknesses. They remind me of how my lapses in judgement, my slips, my indecisiveness, my ignorance and even my stupidity brought about the person that I am right now and the circumstances I'm in at the moment. After which, catharsis sets in.

And after all the mushy songs have been played and the feelings have been felt again, I assure myself that nobody will hurt me that much ever again.

Do you recognize the characters in the slideshow? Any guesses??

Earlier this week, I was elated to receive an invitation to join the press night for Repertory Philippines' newest production, The Joy Luck Club.

Yes! The Joy Luck Club!!! Just last week I was looking at buying tickets for the show and now I don't just get to watch it. I will have the chance to interview the director and its cast. Woot! Woot!

I read the book a couple of years ago and to be honest, I already forgot the story. It was also adapted on film and was a hit when it was shown in theaters. I did keep the book and although the book has aged, it's still in my library and now waiting for me to re-read it :)

From February 4 to 20, Repertory Philippines will be staging "The Joy Luck Club". Please read on to get more insights and information on the said production.

“The Joy Luck Club,” the best-selling novel by Amy Tan, which was also made into a movie directed by Wayne Wang, is now a play. Repertory Philippines is staging “The Joy Luck Club” from Feb. 4 to 20, 2011.

The play is a chorus of eight voices of tightly woven stories. It tells of the lives of four Chinese immigrant women and their four American-born daughters. The four mothers create a mahjong group called the Joy Luck Club and audiences will see the stories of the members of this club unfold.

At turns funny, touching and heart wrenching, the play showcases the rich complexity of love between mothers and daughters that transcends age and cultural gaps.

Adapted by Susan Kim and directed by Anton Juan (recent credits include the non-stage, multi-floor production of “Information for Foreigners”), the powerhouse cast includes Rebecca Chuaunsu, Jay Glorioso, Frances Makil Ignacio and Pinky Marquez as the mothers; and Ana Abad Santos, Lily Chu, Jenny Jamora and Cris Villonco as the daughters.

Costume design is by Eric Pineda with set design by Ohm David and lighting design by John Ilao Batalla.

Rep associate artistic director Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo says, “It’s a great way for families, friends and couples to celebrate Chinese New Year, which kicks off the month on Feb. 3. The show will be great for Valentine’s dates as well.”

After “The Joy Luck Club,” Rep will stage “The 39 Steps,” a comedy thriller based on an Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece from March 4 to 20, 2011 where four actors play 150 characters.

From April 1 to 7, 2011, audiences can enjoy the comedy “Shakespeare in Hollywood,” where Shakespeare's most famous fairies, Oberon and Puck, end up on the Hollywood set of Max Reinhardt's “A Midsummer Night's Dream.”

“The Joy Luck Club” will be staged at Onstage Theater, 2nd floor, Greenbelt 1 Mall, Makati City. Gold or Silver season ticket passes are available for these three productions which provide a discount and choice seats at selected dates compared to buying individual tickets for each of the shows.

All Rep productions are available for showbuying and block ticket sales for individuals or organizations for earning extra income or raising funds. All productions are also available for sponsors who wish to reach Rep’s audiences.

1. “Why by a book when you can join a library.”
When was your last trip to a library?
** Ages ago :(

2. “People see me in the suit and they know I'm not fooling anyone, they know I'm rock and roll through and through.”
Does your attire properly represent you?
** At least, I try to achieve that.

3. “I'm from a little place called England ... We used to run the world before you.”
Do you feel the United States really runs the world?
** I think so.

4. “No one grows up saying 'I hope I work in an office one day?' And that fascinated me. People from 16 to 65 are just thrown together and that is a tantalizing mix.”
When was the last time that you worked in an office like that?
** I think I'm in one right now. LOL!

5. “Where there's a will-there's a relative!”
Do you have a will? If yes, have you ever changed it?
** Not yet. I'll have that when the proper time comes.

6. "When I see a toreador in a bullfight getting gored I think: `Good, you shouldn`t be in there`. What is the pleasure in seeing an animal speared to death? It`s the same with fox hunting. They`re just psychopaths.”
How do you feel about bull fighting and hunting?
** Those are things I wouldn't really do.

7. “Money gives me the creeps and mildly embarrasses me. I get paid too much anyway.”
Have you ever thought that you were over paid for a job?
** No.

8. “I hate lateness. I hate people who are late. There is no excuse for turning up late for anything. I`ve never been late for anything in my life. I was actually born a week premature, because I wanted to be early for my own birth.”
Are you usually on time for things?
** Yes.

9. “I have plenty of pet hates. I can`t stand people scraping their plate or slurping their soup. I can`t stand waiting in lines. I hate people talking inanely about the Lord Of The Rings. I hate people whistling. But I`m not like this because I`m famous. I`ve always been a grumpy bastard.”
What are your “pet hates”?
** Smelly people. People who don't know how to smile. Drivers who run the red light. People who don't give way to the elderly. People who try to sneak their way through the line just to be first. Latecomers. People who forget appointments. Pregnant women who think that thebest pre natal vitamins are cigarettes and beer. Plainly rude people.

10. “I don`t like all this stupid Gollum begat Wobblo and the Oompa Loompas and...Oh Jesus Christ! There was too much "Oh, God, here come the gloodloys..." Christ Almighty, what are they talking about!?”
Are you a fan of “Lord of the Rings”?
** My son is. Not me.

Count your blessings

I have been reminded countless of times to be grateful for all the blessings that I have. Today was no exception.

I wasn't expecting a visitor today. And when I received that SMS from an old friend, I was both excited and sad. Excited because after 19 years, I will be seeing her again. Sad because I know that she's going through some very hard times right now and it's inevitable that I will be hearing her story. This was an unexpected visit but it was just okay.

I prepared lunch for us as I know she will be coming in from a very long bus trip from the province and she needed to take a nice bath for her interview. She made it to my place in one piece. When I saw her, all I could do was give her a real tight hug. She looked way, way older than our real age, probably because of stress and the problems she's facing at the moment.

As I expected it, my heart was crushed hearing what she has been through after high school. Hers was a very sad life story. I never really expected that somebody I know from high school would experience such a sad plight.

As I was hearing her out, I once again realized that I have been so blessed all my life despite the challenges I have faced and am still facing at the moment. I have true friends and family who are always there for me no matter how harsh the situations are. While my friend? She was abandoned by her adoptive family and had no one to turn to and rely on but herself and some close friends.

After lunch, I dropped her off to the nearest jeepney terminal so she could go to her interview and then after which, she would need to go back to the province to tend to her very ill child. She repeatedly thanked me for everything. I told her not to because that's what friends do - help each other. Besides, it's my only way of helping her at this point.

As I drove back home, tears welled in my eyes. I felt her pain. But I know that in my own little way, I was able to help keep her hopes high that God is there working His way through her life in His own brilliant way. I saw her smile and I knew that somehow I did something right for her.

I called up my father and shared the experience with him. I told him that we're both still so lucky and blessed after all. Then he reminded me to always count my blessings - to be thankful that I have shoes instead of having no feet at all. Indeed, God has been very good to us and I will forever be grateful for the life He has given me. I have all the reasons to be happy about my life and in return, it is but right and proper to share these blessings as they come in my own little way.
Today was the perfect example of this. I wouldn't go into the nitty-gritty of it but it's all about getting what you just deserve. At the end of the day and after all has been said and done, it all boils down to the fact that the technology was a failure - at least for this instance. And no amount of apology can erase the fact that the huge mistake made a lot of people clueless, angry and frustrated.

I am hopeful that this is just what they call a glitch (or is it not?). I can curse to the heavens and yell all I want but that wouldn't help me in any way. I would just have that heavy feeling I don't want to feel in the first place. Besides, I already have too much in my plate. I'm looking at this bleak scenario in a positive light just like all the other challenges I have at the moment.

In the meantime, all I can do is to make do of what I have for now.

1. "A friend is nothing but a known enemy."
Have you ever had a “friend” that you discovered was really an enemy?
** Yes and it taught me one of the hardest lessons I've ever learned.

2. "Drugs are a waste of time. They destroy your memory and your self-respect and everything that goes along with with your self esteem."
What is the strongest drug (legal or otherwise) that you have taken?
** Codeine. I was given a prescription for it when I had bronchitis.

3. "I had a really good childhood up until I was nine, then a classic case of divorce really affected me."
Has a divorce (yours or your parents) really impacted your life?
** There's no divorce here. I'm separated. It did made an impact - both positive and negative. I'd like to think it's more negative on the child's part since there's a child involved.

4. "I really haven't had that exciting of a life. There are a lot of things I wish I would have done, instead of just sitting around and complaining about having a boring life. So I pretty much like to make it up. I'd rather tell a story about somebody else."
What's the most exciting thing that you've ever done?
** They say it was doing that free fall thing at 70 feet at the Tree Top Adventure in Subic. It wasn't really exciting for me though because I had a panic attack. But at least that's one thing off my bucket list.

5. "I was looking for something a lot heavier, yet melodic at the same time. Something different from heavy metal, a different attitude."
Is there a heavy metal band that you are a fan of, or were a fan of at that time?
** I'm not really a huge, huge fan but I do like Metallica

6. "I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not."
Do people generally like you?
** I'd like to believe so.

7. "I'm too busy acting like I'm not Naive. I've seen it all, I was here first."
Are you naïve at all?
** No I'm not.

8. "I've always had a problem with the average macho man - they've always been a threat to me."
Does a certain type of person scare you?
** Not really

9. "If you ever need anything please don't hesitate to ask someone else first."
Do you mind a friend who asks for favors?
** No I don't.

10. "The worst crime is faking it."
Do you ever “fake it” for approval?
** I did...a number of times before...LOL!
