Synology’s DiskStation Manager 4.0 is looking to be a terrific piece of software, full to the brim with new abilities including their introduction of their cloud service allowing users to access and share their files anywhere. However the thing that has got us most excited is the introduction of intelligent video security which is going to allow for some pretty incredible things to happen with your CCTV.

Reviewer Dave Mitchel took on our Bullet HD and definitely put the unit through its paces. It’s not surprising that the first thing Dave noticed was the camera’s new HD image quality, larger 1/3inch CMOS and our introduction of H.264 compression, commenting:

“The image quality is superior to the standard Bullet, with good colour balance and contrast,” and when switching to mono mode for night vision, he found the camera “capable of illuminating objects up to 15 metres away”.

Summarising there experience, “compared with other IP66 rated cameras, the Bullet HD is reasonably good value. It offers a lot of useful features, including the long overdue H.264 support.”

With Y-cam, Domino’s have been able to offer their managers and franchises a quick and easy monitoring solution that combines cutting edge technology with simplicity and allows each store to take control of their own security at an affordable cost.

Domino’s needed a solution that would cover a number of requirements; customer and staff safety was paramount due to the unsociable operational hours and the location of a number of their stores. Each solution needed to be simple enough for the in house IT teams to install, flexible and reflect Domino’s ethos – Y-cam IP cameras fitted the bill.

These installations are already showing results; Naz Ahmed, IT installation manager, explains:

“We have suffered from a number of incidents where the Y-cam cameras have helped out. We’ve had people coming in, threating to rob the store and a couple of these have led to prosecution. The main advantage is that the camera is a deterrent, so if anyone is thinking about chancing it the cameras put them off.”
