Well after a 72 hr journey aboard a car carrier from Queensland our little J’Van has finally arrived. Axel Olleroch of VCDC in Rydalmere has welcomed our ‘Li’l Girl’ and is champing-at-the-bit to get started. Specializing in vehicle restoration Axel has given us an undertaking that we won’t be disappointed with the finished product… Here’s some more images of of her arrival and where she’ll live for the next few weeks… Stayed tuned for Part 4… coming soon.

…and so it begins…’Operation J’Van’ – Part 2: The Find!
After a long and exhaustive search, encompassing all corners of our great continent and included many an encounter with some ‘too-far-gone’ rust-buckets, Yellow Express has found a J’Van worthy of restoration. Queensland was where this little fellow called home and while it was shown lots of restoration love by its owner, he was not able to complete the job. We hope he will be pleased with our finished product

Morris J-type Vans used by Yellow Express on 1950s

Morris J-type vans were a common sight on Australian roads in the 1950’s and 60’s. Yellow Express had a fleet of these vehicles to service our vast customer base but with the passing of time, these were replaced with more modern vehicles.

In 2012 began a search that would bring one of these classic commercial vans back into the fleet… watch this space…

Is this the world’s toughest bridge?

There have been a rash of incidents of late involving over height trucks either getting stuck in tunnels or damaging overhead infrastructure. These incidents reminded us of this series of videos that involved an infamous low bridge belonging to the Norfolk Southern Railroad. It has been hit by more than its fair share of vehicles and still stands.

The Tragic Accident of Costa Concordia

Costa Concordia partially capsized off the Italian west coast after hitting a rock on Friday, 13 January 2012. The luxurious cruise ship was carrying more than 4000 passengers and crew members at the time of the accident. At least six people have died and more than a dozen are missing. It is being compared to the disastrous accident of ‘Titanic’ on 15 April 1912, killing 1,517 people, on her maiden voyage.

The marvellous cruise liner was 290.2 meters long with a gross weight of 114,500 tones. It had 17 decks with the capacity of carrying 3,700 passengers and 1,100 crew members.

There are forecasts that the luxury water transport could be further hit by the accident which is already affected due to the economic downturn in Europe. Furthermore, this will support the superstitious people who think number ‘13’ is a bad luck.

iPad2 Winner – Laura Davies

We started our “Win an iPad2” Competition on our Facebook page back in May, and we were overwhelmed by the participation and well thought out responses, maybe even a few romances blooming.

The competition was to tell us in 25 words or less what you would get us to do, so you can continue to enjoy your life.

When it ended in October, we had over 2500 participants to choose from. It was difficult to select only one winner, but after much thought and consideration we decided on an entry by Laura Davies:

Something that I must confess…
while moving house I tend to stress.

After finding a friend of hers had already entered our competition on our Facebook page, Laura decided to enter as well. “I want to win an ipad” she said. Although Laura Lives locally to our office she had “always wondered what Yellow Express did!” so after some research Laura entered with a few different quotes, all of which we thought could have also won her the competition – in fact in the end it came down to either one of her great posts. Here is the other one:

When she was called to be notified that she had been the lucky winner, she could not believe it. She told us she rarely enters competitions and normally does not win. In fact, the only thing she has ever won was a men’s Razor.

Laura was presented with her shiny new gadget in our Rozelle Office. We asked her how she came up with the winning quote and she told us she had a background in marketing which she thinks helped her write the right quote.

Laura plans to use the iPad straight away for work purposes and have some fun “tweeting” as well.

Now knowing what Yellow Express does, Laura will definitely use Yellow Express “for all the things she doesn’t have time to do”.
