I'm not sure why this interesting fish looks so glum. He's freaking cool. And he hasn't been altered by science.

Those red lips are permanent. Hence the name Rosy Lipped Batfish.

The lips aren't the only thing weird about old batty.
It walks on it's fins which are modified to work like feet.
As it walks/glides on the ocean floor, its dorsal fin is shaped like a single spiny projection to lure prey. It also has a lure on top of its head for an unknown purpose.

A bat signal perhaps?

I hope it's enough to keep the folks at Revlon away.

You can find the rosy lipped Batfish in the waters around Costa Rica. But beware, they apparently hate globetrotting Austrailian snorkelers.

Not that I watch Fox News -I don't have to, because all the funny stuff ends up on the internet. Apparently, Brian Kilmeade is trying to say that Swedes can't do research because they are inbred. The way it came out was "We keep marrying other species and other ethnics..." which is screwed up all the way around. You get the feeling he really wanted to say "races" but thought other words would be better. They weren't.

Continue reading for a video of what interspecies marriage would look like.

Chastity/Chaz/Chuck/Chester Bono (Just covering my bases there, not sure what the proper nomenclature is) has already switched teams 20 years ago. I'm posting this story In the Name of Love and massive carbon footprint...

Environmentalists and fans of Earth, you have a new enemy: U2.

It has just been reported U2's latest world tour will not help Earth have a Beautiful Day. So Bono, Edge, Adam and the other guy, get ready for War.

According to the folks at carbonfootprint.com, as U2 walk on their 100 date, 18 month world tour, their carbon footprint will equal the yearly output of 6,500 people.

Blimey Gloria, call the Angel of Harlem! This will Bullet the Blue Sky!

"The carbon footprint generated by U2's 44 concerts this year is equal to carbon created by the four band members traveling the 34.125 million miles from Earth to Mars in a passenger plane."

Link

That's Bad.

Worse, the tour continues well after New Year's Day 2010 finishing around October of next year. Spew Carbon spew!

Now much of the tour's carbon footprint won't coming via Mysterious Ways. It's from transporting the three 390-ton stages, using 3286.60 tons of CO2, with another 916.07 tons for extra equipment. Then pile on all the Electric Co. costs of power stadiums and arena's. Wow, out of control!

I guess when Bono said last year that we all need to "become better at looking after our planet" he wasn't including his band in the mix.

Now for the good news: If U2 want to offset their emissions they won't need a Miracle Drug. They'll just have to visit Van Diemen's Land, find One Tree Hill and plant over 20,000 more around it.

Course One will be a start.

Feel free to work a U2 song title into your comment.

Evil Richard here. I know, I know, it's been a long time since I've posted anything. And I'm not sure when or if "Wednesday is New Comics Day" will be returning. (Free tip: Go pick up DC's Wednesday Comics book today) But, Scaramouch gave me permission to stop by and fill you in on what I've been up to. Especially since I got some exciting news about it last week.

Nathan Sorry is an online graphic novel that I've been working on for a while now and is just starting to ramp up. It's about a guy named Nathan Sorry who should have been in the World Trade Center on 9/11 but instead disappears with a new identitiy and $20 million stolen through a Ponzi scheme. Two months later a guy named James Goode shows up in a small town in North Carolina and shakes up the lives of a few of its residents.

Last week, Warren Ellis, writer of such famous comics as Transmetropolitan, Planetary and The Authority, mentioned Nathan Sorry on his website as a webcomic worth watching.

Come check it out here. I'm working towards getting to a 1 page per week schedule as there's a lot more stuff to tell. Stolen and confused identities, online sex ads, an unsolved murder, cheating hearts and the War in Afghanistan all play a big part in the story to come.

I snapped this on the way to the subway this evening - a fantastic execution of guerilla street advertising for the upcoming District 9 movie (and you'll find a lot of great site experiences on that link) The location, the way it was painted, and the public information style - all just made me think this was exactly how this kind of stuff should be executed. Pitch perfect.

I saw the trailer at the weekend (before the godawful Transformers dreck) and it looks like the movie has been made with the same attention to detail. Really looking forward to it.

After the jump, I've embedded the original short film on which the movie is based.

People have been spotting Jesus everywhere. In toast, false ceilings, The Egyptian Book of the Dead. But, with the death of Michael Jackson, a new trend may be starting.

Get ready for a wave of "I spotted Michael ______."

Here's the first: A family in Stockton Ohio claims an image of The King of Pop appeared on a tree stump in their front lawn. They hadn't noticed his image before.

Neighbors gathered over the weekend to look at the image for themselves and wonder why Michael chose to appear as opposed to other recently killed celebrities, Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon or Steve 'Air" McNair.

Well it's simple really...

To Stockton, Michael Jackson meant more to us than Jesus, to some people. I think they're both about even.

Link

Jackson once visited the city after a school shooting. Jesus never has. Yet.

And now the race has started.
Who will find the next image of Jackson and sell their story to a tabloid newspapers?

We shall see. I knew this, if find Michael's image on the back of a NYC subway rat I'll report it here.
