Hey, It’s a claim-based identity !

Actually, this is a very superior announcement. If you have very extensive experience with ASP.NET Membership and Role Management, then you must read the new way of implementing authentication and authorization in the Microsoft clouds (Ex: Azure web role). Specially difference between role based authorization with claim.

Under the P & P project, they are going to release the guide under two categories. Enterprise track and ISV track. So broadly, Microsoft wants to move our existing skills set to the cloud, but our thinking about identity management should be changed with “claim-based identity“.

July CTP of Windows Azure SDK Released !

Interesting… I am very keen about PowerShell runtime on Windows Azure web and worker roles. Here are the general information about July CTP of Windows Azure SDK.

What’s new in the July Windows Azure SDK?

The Windows Azure SDK supports developing and deploying services containing multiple web and worker roles. A service must include at least one role, of either type, and may include zero or more web roles, and zero or more worker roles.
The new PowershellRole sample hosts the Powershell runtime within a Windows Azure role. It demonstrates a simple remote console web role as well as a worker role whose implementation is a Powershell script. The host also includes the CloudDrive sample snap-in to provide access to Windows Azure Storage from script.

What’s new in Windows Azure Tools for Visual Studio

New project creation dialog
Support for developing and deploying services containing multiple web and worker roles. A service may contain zero or more web roles and zero or more worker roles with a minimum of one role of either type.
Ability to associate any ASP.NET Web Application project in a Cloud Service solution as a Web Role
Support for building Cloud Services from TFS Build
Enhanced robustness and stability

This is not totally hot news. But I guess community isn’t much aware about this. So, If you are a SharePoint lover and If you are planning to buy notebook/PC in coming months, please make sure to buy x64-bit compatible hardware as SharePoint 2010 become 64-bit only. It’s all about improving the performance and flexibility. Here are the quick info about SharePoint Server 2010 preliminary system requirements:

SharePoint Server 2010 will be 64-bit only
SharePoint Server 2010 will require 64-bit Windows Server 2008 or 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2
SharePoint Server 2010 will require 64-bit SQL Server 2008 or 64-bit SQL Server 2005

How to Install Azure SDK and Azure Tools on Windows 7 RC?

Few months ago, I posted about “How to setup Windows Azure development environment on Windows 2008” and today I am going to show you “How to setup Windows Azure development environment on Windows 7 RC”. When comparing with Windows 2008 setup, now we have minimum steps to configure Windows Azure development environment on Windows 7 RC.

Here are the quick steps:

IIS 7.0 (with ASP.NET, WCF HTTP Activation and optionally CGI) * Please follow ” To enable IIS 7.0 with ASP.NET and WCF HTTP Activation on Windows Vista”.
Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 SP1, Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1 or Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition with SP1.
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Edition with Service Pack 1.
Hot fix: Native Debugging Improvements (not required for Visual Studio 2010).
Install Windows Azure Software Development Kit (May 2009 CTP).
Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio (May 2009 CTP).
