Only 25-35 of these cats remain in the Russian Far East. A team from the Wildlife Conservation Society capture a female Amur leopard to help with conservation efforts.

This is a message that you should have learned from Aesop, if you are a little rat. Unfortunately, some animals can’t read. Here are two examples.

First, a fox found itself in the enclosure of a lion in the Wuppertal zoo (Germany). It left quite quickly after understanding the kind of error it made.

The second is even more astonishing since this is simply a mere rodent which decided to go and eat part of the dinner of a leopard of the Santago Rare Leopard Project, in Hertfordshire (UK). The small rat, quite young and inexperienced, but not impressed at all, demonstrated that size is not all. When you got what it takes…

Some believe that the Saber-Toothed Cats, impressive prehistoric big cats disappeared long ago, went extinct because the evolution of their canines too such length that they no longer could hunt, bite and eat. It’s really wrong; The animal had an astonishing capacity to crack his mouth wide-open, giving it a strong hook to catch a prey, as you can see in the following animation which allows a comparison with the modern lion anatomy:

This is the name given to a big cat seen about 10 years ago around Anamudi, the highest peak south of the Himalayas: Pogeyan cat. Being uniformly greyish, it was not photographed or filmed, but people try and identify it anyway. Based on the propensity of all panthers and leopards to produce strong variations in the color of their coat, it could be a genetic variation of a local leopard. More about this on Tetrapodzoology.
