iPhone 5 to be available in Malaysia on 14th December

The highly anticipated iPhone 5 has finally been scheduled to reach our shores on the 14th of December. Make sure to mark your calendars as we’re pretty sure the various telcos will be doing their bit to promote and launch the phone. For those that want to get the iPhone 5 without contract, it will most likely be available in the Apple Store couple of days after the launch.

Maxis has also made available their Registration of Interest Page which can be found here. If you’re still on contract and own an iPhone 4/4S, most likely there will an option to extend your contract just like when iPhone 4S was launched.

Celcom has also launched their own ROI page here. No news from DiGi yet but we’re pretty sure they’re already working on it. iPhone 4S owners will you be getting the iPhone 5 ?

Samsung Galaxy Note gets leaked Android 4.1.2 JellyBean

The attention of most people has been on the Galaxy Note II but thankfully Samsung has not forgotten about the Galaxy Note as there was a leaked Jelly Bean 4.1.2 firmware update for the N7000 released recently. . Sitting at build JZO54K, the leaked firmware is a Samsung internal test build, and according to SamMobile, is far from complete, with further updates expected to appear.

Some of the additions and enhancements found in the leaked Jelly Bean update are:

Android 4.2.1 (JOP40D) Rolling Out To Nexus 7 & Galaxy Nexus – Manual Update Available [HowTo]

Google has finally release Android 4.2.1 updates to fix some issues found on Android 4.2, especially the calendar bug which oddly enough didn’t include the month December. The update is currently rolling out to Google Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus. As usual only certain regions are receiving the update.

Now thanks to the awesome peeps at XDA you can manually update your Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus

You can install the update to your device via ADB if you have a stock recovery by using adb sideload, or from the internal storage if you’re running a custom one. This is a relatively safe operation, but back up the important stuff anyway.

Update Your Nexus 7 To Android 4.2 – JOP40C (HowTo)

Many Nexus 7 owners have started receiving Android 4.2 updates OTA but unfortunately there are still many that are waiting, including myself. Here’s how you can manually download the updates and push it on to your device.

Prerequisite: Your Nexus 7 should be running Android 4.1.2 build JZO54K. You will not lose your data using this method.

Step 1.

Download the update zip from Google’s servers (MD5: 7bee9b220c20979763af563cad56af94)

If you have a custom recovery, you can just copy it to the device, reboot to recovery, and flash directly as you would any other zip. You’re done.

If you have the stock recovery, carry on.

Some users have also reported that the method below works

Reset Google Services Framework app:

1. Settings>Apps>Google Services Framework
2. Force Stop, Clear Data
3. Check for Update.

Step 2.

Reboot your Nexus 7 and hold the Volume Down button while it’s booting up.Once you see the fastbootmenu and the word Start, press Volume Up a few times until you see Recovery and then press the Power button to enter recovery.

You will see an Android with a red exclamation point. Now press Volume Up + Power together, and you should see the menu below.

Select the 2nd option called apply update from adb.

Step 3.

Connect the Nexus 7 to your computer with a USB cable.

Make sure you have adb. Copy the 094f6629314a.signed-nakasi-JOP40C-from-JZO54K.094f6629.zip to the same folder as adb.

Keep the file you just downloaded on your computer and open up a command prompt (cmd in Windows, regular shell in Linux and Mac) in the same directory as the zip file.

Type in:

adb sideload 094f6629314a.signed-nakasi-JOP40C-from-JZO54K.094f6629.zip

You should see the progress bar go up to 100%, like so:

sending: ‘sideload’ 100%

Step 4.

Enjoy Android 4.2 with multi user support.

Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 now available in Australia

If you’re like us you might have been in front of the computer hitting F5 furiously as the clock strikes 12, only to be left a little frustrated as Google’s playground is yet to be opened despite it officially being 13 November in Australia.

According to Googler Stefan Keuchel in Germany, the device will only start selling at some point in the afternoon/evening in the region, which could be true for all of Europe. Here’s what the Google employee said (Google translation):

As I learned today, the ordering is, however, open only on Tuesday afternoon / early evening. So it makes no sense today to persevere at midnight in front of computer to buy a Nexus device. I like to keep you informed as soon as I get new information.

Update: Keuchel later on posted an update on the matter, letting buyers know that shopping can start tomorrow morning instead of afternoon/evening as previously indicated. Here’s his Google-translated message:

Update: Your will for me crazy explain (and rightly so), but I have just received the news that the Nexus devices (N4, N7 and N10) now but tomorrow morning (for breakfast) will be available through Google Play!

Now, assuming that breakfast means 9am in the morning the device should go on sale in Australian Play Store later in the evening.

UPDATE - Nexus 4 (8GB) and Nexus 10 are now available on the Australian Play Store. No news on the 16GB Nexus 4 yet.

Angry Birds Star Wars now officially available for Android and iOS

It’s finally out !! Rovio has officially launched the highly anticipated update to the Angry Birds series; the Angry Birds Star Wars. It is now available for the Android on Google Play and for Apple devices on the Appstore. For Android owners, you’ll have a choice of getting a FREE ad-supported version, Apple owners need to pay for it but it’s ad-free.

Star Wars and Angry Birds fans will certainly be impressed with Rovio’s attention to detail as each bird and pig are dressed up in familiar Star Wars characters. This also includes sound effects, Jedi powers and light sabers.

Shadowgun DeadZone to be officially available on 15th November, new trailer launched

Shadowgun : DeadZone Beta has been out for almost a month now and there’s been loads of people fragging their lives away. It has certainly proved to be an excellent multiplayer game and has quickly become the favourite for many.

The game has had several patches so far and it looks like the game is finally ready for prime time. The official launch of Deadzone will be on November 15th.

Rovio releases Angry Bird Star Wars Trailer; game launches on 8th Nov

Rovio has just released a trailer showcasing their latest Angry Birds series; Angry Birds Star Wars. From the trailer, it looks like it shares many similarities with the original Angry Birds game as well as Angry Bird Space.

The game will officially be released on November 8th, this Thursday. Have a look at the trailer and be amazed with all the new characters and the powers that come with them. The force is strong in this one.
