Which means lots of backbends. However, it's not as intense as it may sound. Of course you can always take a pose as far as you want to, but in this class Wade points out the modifications for the poses so it makes it easy to stop where you are comfortable, or progress and find your limit. Along with all the backbends, there are the opposite poses-forward bends (in this case lots of vinyasas) to keep things balanced--so don't skip them. And pace yourself, there is series of 7 headstands twds the end. Enjoy.

Wade reminds you to focus on the breathing and tune out distractions....holding those first couple of poses helps with that, and creates heat.
After the warm up you go through a series of poses that seem to focus on the hamstrings and opening up the heart (chest). You'll do poses such as: the Warrior series, prayer twist, side arm balance, spinal balance, triangle, airplane, cobbler pose, that wood stacking hip opening pose, plow, shoulder stand....to name a few....so pretty much an overall yoga workout with a little focus on opening up the heart (Wade reminds you to focus on that area of the chest and shoulders in many of the poses). A great way to end the year or to start a new one. Happy New Year!

Wade reminds us of why were are here.....to challenge the mind to focus on the breath for 90 minutes! and not just move the body thru a series of stretches and strengthening poses.

Wade takes things down a notch by starting the poses in their easiest form and progressively making them more challenging in each subsequent pose. It's a great class if you are just beginning, as Wade careful explains the poses and points out small technical details. There are also some difficult poses for more seasoned yogis, and of course you are welcome to make it as challenging as you want--just let your breath be your guide. You'll work the entire body, hamstrings, shoulders, abs, back...you name it. He starts class out with a long wrist and shoulder warm up, and it's for a good reason. You'll be in that position with your wrists at 90 degrees for a big portion of this class with poses like the usual Sun Salutations (push ups and Up Dog), Crow pose, many balancing/strength poses that I don't remember the names of. Your shoulders will also get a good workout. There are several unique balancing poses in this class that might be new and challenging to you.
Of course you'll still work the other areas of your body like the hamstrings and front of the thighs and there are some twists and side bending poses too. So an overall body class with good flow and a big emphasis on the wrist and shoulders.
The beginning of this recording is a good one to keep for a warm up before any yoga class or other exercise, especially if you have trouble with your wrists/shoulders.

A fantastic class to get you ready for whatever sport you might be enjoying or just everyday life, since core strength is essential in just about everything from good posture to performance. As Wade reminds you at the beginning...remember the breath, let it be your guide.

Wade held class in the smallest room in the community center (room # 5 or "the torture chamber") and he had several portable heaters going.
Be warned....When Wade advises you to pace yourself....you know you are in for a hard class! Maybe it was the added heat that made this class a great one, but I think it was more about the approx. 45 minutes that we spent balancing on one leg... tons of Airplane poses. And the fact that we did SPLITS! And that's where the heat really helped. I found myself going further in poses than I have ever gone before and I felt great the next day as well. Warm up the room if you can and go for it.

A great class and a total body workout. If there is emphasis on any area, I'd say there are quite a few twisting poses and side bending postures, so you really work the sides of your body. Wade keeps things interesting by finding new and unique ways to get from one pose to another. It's fun to find yourself in a familiar pose like Half Moon while getting into the pose in an entirely new way. Class starts out with a bang, as Wade leads you through some heat building push-ups (there were a lot of moans and groans in class that might not come through the recording), but of course, as Wade always reminds you.....go at your own pace, be smart, know your limits, keep that yogi breath (or groan along with the class if you want too). You'll be guided through headstand in this class, so clear some room if you want to give it a try.

update: Just to clarify who everyone is....Wade is our instructor, yogi, guru, teacher. He is the talent. Wade has a day job and teaches this class, (by donation only) two nights a week in an old school converted to a community center in Ohiopyle, PA.

My husband, John and I (we just had the baby) are just students....practicing yogis at best, who thought that recording this class and posting a downloadable Podcast was a great way to share our great fortune of experiencing Wade's classes with everyone. We record when we can make it to class and the devices are working properly, and John posts the recordings as soon as he has time. So enjoy the Podcast, and if you are in the Ohiopyle area, come join us. -Kara
