Cheap Stay in Hong Kong

That’s right, to start the ball rolling with our new website, I’d like to introduce you all to a nice little gem I found while I was backpacking. The gem in question is called HostelWorld.com, and it’s saved my butt more that once.

I traveled to Hong Kong 3 or 4 times before with family and we either stayed with family (the kinda of family that are not really family but….you get the picture), but is wasn’t until I set out by myself backpacking that I discovered hostels in Hong Kong.

Want a cheap stay in Hong Kong, then you must check out HostelWorld.com. Of course its not the only hostel website out there such as:

• hihostels.com
• yha.org.uk

I’ve tried all of the about except hihostels.com, no particular reason I haven’t tried it except since I first found cheap rooms in Hong Kong with HostelWorld.com I haven’t look back.

So why am I promoting a single website over others? This is due to the fact that I personally thing there are to many sites out there for hostels. Sure there isn’t as many as hotels, not yet at least. This is my point. I choose to pick one hours and back it. We’ll never have just one site for such things, especially in the hospitality industry. I personally think that if I can get more attention to one particular vender, that’s doing things right, we we can get more targeted and relevant results when we search for cheap rooms in Hong Kong, and of course wherever else we travel to.

Anyway without straying too far away from the main point, here’s a list of hostels I’ve stayed at in Hong Kong.

Ah Shan Hostel

Located in Mong Kok, right opposite the ladies market, this place is my favourite hostel to date. I live in Hong Kong, but when I first arrive and was looking for an apartment I stayed here for a whole month. It’s a family owned hostel and most of the staff speak some, although basic, English. The daughter speaks fluent English and she works most days.

Best thing about this place is that it’s right in the heart of everything. If you’ve never been to Hong Kong before and want to be in right there, stay here.

Dragon Inn

Located in the famous or is it infamous, Chung King Mansion in TST (Tsim Sha Tsui) this place is old school. This was the first place I stayed in when I came backpacking in 2005. Back then its was owned by a mainland Chinese woman who spoke English as if she was speaking Chinese, aggressive. I’m used to this, so it didn’t bother me at the time, but some others in my share dorm though this was so funny.

Looking at the pictures in from the HostelWorld.com website, it looks like they’ve either added some new rooms or they’ve redecorated. It looks pretty good now, and its rating is pretty high also.

Rent-A-Room Hong Kong

These guys have the right idea, there name is so search friendly. When I was in South Korea searching for cheap rooms in Hong Kong I kept seeing adds for this place everywhere on the web. I don’t recall booking through HostelWorld.com for this one.

They are situated in Jordan, one MTR stop before TST. And I must say their location is the quietest and calmest out of the three hostels mentioned here. It’s one street off Nathan road, the main strip that runs down kowloon, and hidden behind a big building that blocks out all the noise from Nathan road. It’s nice and clean and all that, but if I remember correctly, I only moved because I was due to stay a month while flat hunting and Ah Shan was offering better rates.
