The World Series of Fighting’s main event takes place at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino Saturday, January 18th at 9pm and will feature Justin Gaethje vs. Rich Patishnock and a co-main Heavyweight collision between Blackzilian Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson and #1 contender Mike Kyle. The card will feature top-level fighters from around the world including a female Strawweight Championship Bout between Jessica Aguilar and Alida Gray.

Brock Lesnar — a former UFC heavyweight champion — and current WWE superstar — is reportedly in talks with UFC President Dana White about a possible return to the promotion. Rumors of Lesnar’s return have been circulating for several weeks, from Shane Carwin saying he wanted a rematch with Lesnar in the UFC, to Dana White acting very coy in an interview with Ariel Helwani when asked about Lesnar. Could it be that Lesnar is the star power for 2014 the UFC is looking for, now that GSP and Anderson Silva have left?

It took her to the third round in their rematch, but Ronda Rousey scored another arm bar submission victory over arch-rival Miesha Tate. Tate showed excellent submission defense, getting out of a tight arm bar and also a reverse triangle. However, she was not able to mount much in the way of offense and continue to try to take Rousey down, even after she was thrown several times. Ronda showed she was not afraid to throw down with Tate, and actually did fairly well against her on the feet, which is a good sign that her striking has matured. Now, looking at the next challenge, I believe Cat Zingano was in attendance — so I wonder if she will be rehabbed and ready to go when it comes time for Rousey to defend her title again.

Silva breaks leg!! Weidman wins by TKO!! Chris Weidman is still the UFC middleweight champion after beating Anderson Silva for the second time, this time by TKO as Silva threw a leg kick and Weidman checked it with his knee. Silva’s lower leg wrapped around Weidman knee, the bones shattering. Weidman had won the first round convincingly, knocked Silva down with a big punch, and then following up with some heavy ground-and-pound. Who knows if Silva can come back from such a horrific injury. But as of right now, it looks like Vitor Belfort gets the next crack at Weidman’s title.

When Tom “Mate” Anderton was fighting on the regional amateur MMA circuit, I covered several of his fights. It was always great to see Tom at the events, even if he wasn’t fighting — the guy always had a smile on his face. But don’t let the smile fool you — Tom was nasty in the cage, winning fights with his stand-up skills. Fighting seemed to be something that was just in the native Englishman’s blood, as was music.

A Red Lion store owner said he was worried about his 12-year-old daughter and customers in the store when a man who police said attempted to shoplift items pulled a knife.

Thanks to his training as a cage fighter and boxer, store owner Tom Anderton said he was able to hold the man in a choke hold until police arrived.

Anderton, who owns Tom’s Music Trade in the first block of North Main Street in Red Lion said he opened his store Saturday and a man police identified as Shawn Frazier came inside the shop.

Frazier, 45, of Red Lion, was in the store for about two hours, looking through various CDs, DVDs and video games, according to charging documents. Anderton said Frazier was acting strangely and he spoke to Frazier twice about not putting merchandise in places it didn’t belong.

When Frazier came to the counter with one CD, Anderton said, he asked Frazier about the items he could see in his back pocket.

“I just grabbed them,” Anderton said Saturday afternoon.

Tom is also good friends with Red Lion band Halestorm, who won a Grammy earlier this year.

Tom writes, “Yes I’m friends with them. They have been regulars at the store since 2006. They gave me this signed picture a couple of years ago when they had a couple of days off from tour. They even put a photo up on there website a couple of years ago of them with me in the store.”

Chael Sonnen takes on Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in the main event of the first-ever UFC event broadcast on FOX Sports 1 on Aug. 17 in Boston. I’m predicting that Sonnen, known as a pressure fighter with great take-downs, will get a unanimous decision win over Shogun. What do you think?

Just announced: Newly-crowned UFC middleweight champion Chris “The All-American” Weidman and former champion Anderson Silva will have their much-talked-about rematch at UFC 168 on Dec. 28 in Las Vegas. Some fight fans called the first fight a fluke, or said that Silva threw the fight or let Weidman win; others have said Weidman beat the champ legitimately and that Silva finally paid for all the clowning he has done in the cage over the years. It’s my hope that whatever the outcome of this fight, we have a clearer understanding of these two fighters and how they stack up against each other.

Chris “The All-American” Weidman is the new UFC middleweight champion after knocking out Anderson Silva!!! Weidman, never intimidated by the showboating, mean-mugging Silva, won round one with a take-down and hard ground-and-pound. Silva, clearly frustrated, tried to goad Weidman into a striking contest. Weidman obliged and with a flurry, knocked Silva down, followed him to the ground, and then continued hitting him until his eyes rolled back into his head and Herb Dean stepped in to stop the fight.
