I can’t believe some people think Pete Rose is a bad person just because he bet on baseball and lied about betting on baseball. This video should put those thoughts to rest. Pete showed great compassion when he realized the man he was sitting on could no longer support him and called for another man on which to rest his ass. You think Cal Ripken Jr. would’ve done that? Hell naah. First off, Cal’s so selfish he would’ve sat in a chair instead of employing a day laborer, and if he did sit on the guy there’s no way the Iron Man’s letting his chair punk out.

All jokes and disgust aside it’s great to see Jeter, Pettite, Posada, and Rivera pick up their fifth rings. Steroids blemish Andy’s career but those four guys are about as likable as guys on the other team can be.

The same can’t be said for Yankees fans. Even though they lost the Clash of the Cretins to Philadelphia these videos show New Yorkers in all their glory.

It’s still funny to watch but Rome admits he wishes things hadn’t gone down that way. Not because he ended up on his back with an NFL quarterback ready to pound him into the ground but because he acted like a knucklehead and escalated the situation. Blowing the Whistle supposedly airs the NBA’s dirty laundry regarding officiating. The excerpts talk about a star system, fixed games, and orders to extend series which would be shocking if these some tales hadn’t been floating around for years. Referees hold grudges? I’m not saying Donaghy is completely full of shit but the level has at least reached his mouth. My problem with Donaghy is that he had a chance to spill his guts, under oath, and all he did was give up a couple of gamblers.

The two alleged co-conspirators, identified by prosecutors as James Battista, a professional gambler with the nicknames “Baba” and “Sheep,” and Thomas Martino, also appeared in court Wednesday. They were ordered released on $250,000 bond after their arraignment on charges of conspiracy to defraud the NBA.

Battista’s lawyer, Jack McMahon, said a grand jury is expected to hear the case and, if indicted, his client intends to plead innocent.

“Mr. Donaghy walked away with a nice situation for himself. He is the linchpin and he seems to have worked his way into a nice situation,” McMahon said. “I don’t know if that is fair.”

If Donaghy created a nice situation for himself by snitching on two nobodies, how well would he have done for turning in all of the people mentioned in his book?

When Jose Canseco dropped Juicedpeople said I would sue if he mentioned me and I wasn’t using roids. Canseco survived.

Triumph, the first publisher for Donaghy’s book, backed out due to “concerns over potential liability” although a Donaghy rep says legal pressure was brought by the NBA. Either way, a book publisher wouldn’t be scared to print the truth. Why would Triumph be afraid of an NBA lawsuit if the book was on point?

I’m sure the refs make side bets and swallow the whistle at times but it’s the same as any other sport. The grand conspiracies by Donaghy contradict themselves, the league favors big market teams-the league wanted San Antonio over Phoenix, and even the casual NBA fan knows some variation of many of Donaghy’s examples. He reads like a bitter felon that’s looking for some starting over money.

“I put in a lot of time and thought … and I’d like to make a statement about Greg Paulus,” Marrone said as he began the press conference. “I took some time, yesterday, last evening and this morning and I really wanted to write some things down, so if I look down at the notes, I want to make sure I get it correct.

“I have never seen an athlete, at any level including the NFL, work as hard, mentally and physically, as Greg has worked since he’s joined us here at Syracuse. Really, what he’s accomplished is extraordinary. Maybe it can’t be fully appreciated because most don’t know just how difficult it is to play quarterback at a Division I program.

“In the era of video games, virtual reality, it’s easy to believe that throwing a pass, reading a defense, avoiding a sack is as easy as the push of a button, that any of us can do. The problem, it’s not that easy. We can’t do that.

“Despite the turnover and mistake that Greg made, as any quarterback makes, he’s exceeded expectations at every level. I think Greg is a victim of his own success. We’ve seen him make great plays and great decisions and we’ve come to expect that from him every time. But football is a team game. People don’t know when an offensive linemen misses a block or a receiver runs a wrong route. They only see the decisions that Greg makes.

“Calling for a backup quarterback and backup pitcher, backup point guard, I understand that’s just a part of sports. But Greg is one of us. He grew up here. He came back to do something that’s never been done before and he’s poured every once of his body and soul in that task.

“Let me say this again – it’s really been remarkable. If his performance and preparation and dedication drop off, then obviously it’s just like every other position, that he will not be a starter for a team.

“When he’s in the game, it’s because we believe that he gives us the best chance to win. And I truly, truly, truly thank him for being here. And I hope my kids grow up (tears begin filling his eyes) … to have the courage … and determination of a Greg Paulus. I get emotional when I talk about my family.”
