Last weekend on Sunday, 5th September 2010, we orgainised our fist Jiaozi Eating Contest to promote the traditional food related to the Chinese culture that brought to Malaysia by our forefathers from Mainland China. After our initial try at organizing this type of competition, we hope that we would be able to carry this event as an annual event and have more participation from the general public and from our loyal customer base.

The Jiaozi Eating Contest  would be the beginning of a series of activities to promote the preservation of Chinese Heritage in terms of food. There will be more to come in the near future, in the pipe line would be our Jiaozi making class and another in-house challenge.

The contest saw participation from locals and our foreign brother from Italy, Daniele Tasca.  He had tried the Malaysian Siao Long Pau, Wantans and Siu Kau, and now our Jiaozi.

The contest saw contestants having need to eat and swallow 10 pieces of our handmade Jiaozis in a specified time of 60 seconds. Each of Young Heart Jiaozi has an average weight of 50grams, thus it is bigger and heftier compared to those available in the general market.  The average weight of the competition Jiaozis are same in size and weight with our daily sold product.

Mr. Quah was crowned our Jiaozi King when finish 10 pieces in just 30 second flat. I guess it would be a hard record to beat, he will be in our “hall of fame” for quite some time. For his feat, he got RM575 nett worth of vouchers to be used in our restaurant, Hot Wok Nyonya Cuisine(Burmah Road) and Dessert King(Nagore Road).

This is the group photo of the participant who joined the contest and had “fun” trying to see how fast could they down the Jiaozis. They all got a RM75 nett worth of vouchers and prizes for their participation.

These are the contestants that managed to gobbled down more that 6 pieces with in 60 seconds. They too got RM75 nett worth of vouchers and prizes.

After the contest was over, the organising parties took to task to personally try the feat.
