I hate it when people say that there is college money everywhere, or that college is easy if you aren’t lazy. College is difficult, and you need a lot of money to pay for it all. I received over $20,000 in scholarship and grant money. That’s a lot, but didn’t even pay for a fourth of my college expenses, and a 6 or so dollar an hour job sure doesn’t take care of the rest. College is expensive these days, and its nearly impossible to get through without racking up some serious debt. (Those who have done so, consider yourselves lucky.)

And Doug? Sounds like you just went to a lousy college. I may feel that college is overpriced, but I know my education left me more than competitive on an international level.

I clicked through to Mark’s site to look at the details. While the opportunity to get start up funding is attractive, he seems to be assuming a level of sophistication re: business planning that is probably beyond lots of new entrepreneurs. And, it seems you are required not to have any kind of protection for your intellectual property. The combination of those two elements seems like a big limitation.

Many college students are facing financial crises as they try to find $$ to stay in school. They are waking up to how bad the job market is, and they are considering starting a small business for the first time.I have found that many new entrepreneurs need a basic intro to small business development that is practical and hands on. You are absolutely right. I just held my first workshop which scared me to death- but in the “clean way” you described. The workshop was a great success, and now I am concocting bigger plans for a telecourse so that I can reach a bigger audience. Dipping my toes in the water out of my comfort zone gave me the push I needed! Great topic!
