The event has been massively popular, with over 400 people registering by the deadline. Some of Manchester’s highest profile employers will be interviewing at the event including British Gas, Manchester City Football Club, Select Service Partners, the Royal Mail, the Marriott Hotel and Marks and Spencer. It was a tough task to choose the lucky 100 who will be interviewed - and you now know who you are! Anyone else who has registered and is looking for work will be able to chat to employers at an exclusive jobs exhibition also being held at the event. Employers exhibiting tomorrow include Trafford Housing Trust Ltd and Minara Foods. Good luck!

Here Are Benji’s Top Tips for A Successful Interview!

1. Arrive on time and if you arrive early try walking around outside to clear your head, get some fresh air and calm any nerves.
2. Speak slowly, in both the initial greeting and the interview. Try speaking more slowly than you would normally, because you can be unusually nervous and might speak too quickly

3. Maintain eye contact, again nerves can lead you to stare at your notes or something else in the room. You will come across confident and assured if you can answer a question and look at the interviewer. But equally, don’t stare, be natural.

4. Show enthusiasm and make sure you smile a lot. Nerves can make you appear subdued at the interview, especially if you are just naturally quiet. It is worth going that extra mile to show how enthusiastic you are about the job. For example, show your interest in the company by researching into your potential employer beforehand.

5. Finish on a positive note, even if you feel the interview has gone badly. Thank the interviewer for their time and say that you look forward to hearing from them soon.

Councillor Mavis Smitheman, who used to be a keen extreme sportswoman and spent much of her time parachuting out of planes, will officially mark the start of the UK’s biggest job interview. Born and raised in Newton Heath, where she lived for most of her life, Mavis was elected in May 1998 as councillor for the area and held the position for four years. Mavis currently represents Ardwick Ward on top of her duties as Lord Mayor. The proud Grandmother of ten and Great-Grandmother of three, says: “I’m delighted to be a part of the UK’s biggest interview and can’t wait to come along and meet everyone involved. “I feel strongly that everyone should be given the opportunity to do a job they enjoy and this event will not only offer many new opportunities to those who need them, but will help highlight the great work going on in Manchester to help the unemployed back to work.”

Tim Campbell, who battled it out with 13 other candidates to impress self-made millionaire Sir Alan Sugar and win a six figure salary, will be attending You’re Hired! and lending his invaluable advice to everyone at the event. Tim won the first season of the hugely popular show and worked for Sir Alan for two years before striking out on his own. He now runs a charitable venture capital organisation called the Bright Ideas Trust which supports the start up of businesses amongst young people. Tim says: “When I heard about You’re Hired! I thought it was a fantastic opportunity for everyone in the region. I know what it’s like in the interview seat, so thought I’d come along and offer some advice.

“But luckily for everyone involved, it won’t be anything as stressful as an interview with Sir Alan!”
