We have been notified by ProQuest, the provider of the ebook database EBL (Ebook Library) that this database & its contents will be will be unavailable for approximately 3 hours on Sunday July 24 (AWST) 2.00am - 5.00am : (AEDT) 4:00 am - 7:00 am

The downtime will also affect access to ebooks on this platform listed in Summon and course materials on Blackboard.

If you are particularly interested in an ebook from EBL, we recommend downloading it to your home PC or mobile device prior to this outage to ensure you have continued access. On Friday 24^th June and Monday 27^thJune 2016 the St Teresa’s Library will be closed from the usual opening time of 8am until 2pm. The Library will be used as an examination venue from 8am to 2pm on both days.

The Craven Law Library and the Galvin Medical Library will both be open for business as usual.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Emerald Database - Scheduled downtime 7th June

Our aim is to continuously develop our collections and services in ways you will find useful and easy to access.

To help us in this task we provide a series of ways in which you can ‘have your say’ about our collections and services. These strategies are explained on the 'have your say' webpage and include:

A simple online form which enables you to recommend a book, eBook or DVD for purchase. Your recommendations go directly to a staff member who can determine if the resource is available and meets our selection criteria (you can review these criteria here). We buy the vast majority of titles which are recommended.
The AskUs FAQ service which enables you to submit a question to us about how to use our services and collections
A simple online feedback form for your comments, ideas, suggestions – this comes directly to me and either I or one of my colleagues will reply directly to your feedback if you provide your details in the form or you can remain anonymous
The results of our User Surveys from 2011, 2013 and 2015 including lists of the improvements we have made based on the feedback we received from you in these surveys

We value your input and find your ideas one of the best sources of information to help us make decisions about our services so please let us know what you are think about our services and what you need from your library.

Print and Copy Charges

The charges for printing and copying have been standardised across all of the University's libraries at the following levels:

A4 Black and White $0.11

A3 Black and White $0.22

A4 Colour $0.25

A3 Colour $0.50

Scanning to PDF continues to be free. The PDFs will be sent to your University email account.
Please ask at one of our information desks if you need assistance to use the printing and copying equipment.

The Library has recently subscribed to the following e-journals:

Journal of Palestine studies
The Journal of Palestine Studies is the oldest and most respected English journal devoted exclusively to Palestinian affairs and the Arab-Israeli conflict. Each issue brings you timely and thought-provoking data and analysis on political, cultural, and historical issues affecting Palestine and the Palestinians. State Crime
State Crime is the first peer-reviewed, international journal that seeks to disseminate leading research on the illicit practices of states. The concept of state crime is not confined to legally recognised states but can include any authority that exerts political and military control over a substantial territory (e.g the FARC). Referencing Support Services (Fremantle Campus)

What has it been like using Notre Dame’s referencing guide as part of your studies or teaching ? We want to know!

The Library is evaluating this referencing guide and we’d like to learn about the student and staff experience in using the guide. In 2015, the Referencing Guide received 44,000 hits on the home page alone, , and 175,000 hits on all pages combined. So although we know it’s being well used, we’d love to know what could be improved, what are we missing, what are we doing well?

We are currently recruiting for focus groups (6-8 participants, informal discussion) which will take place on campus, mainly during the week of April 18 (Week 8).

Coffee and donuts will be provided, and discussion will take less than one hour. All contributions will be made anonymous.

Interested students or staff should call past one of the Fremantle Campus Libraries to collect the Participant Information Sheet and the Consent form or check their my.nd.edu.au email for copies of these forms which were sent to all Fremantle students and staff on 4th April 2016.

Due to scheduled maintenance, the Ebrary ebook database is currently unavailable for a period of approximately 2 hours [maintenance window Thursday 31st March commencing 7am AWST/ 10am AEST] .

This will also affect access to ebooks on the site found via Summon, however books that you have downloaded should still be available on your PC via Adobe ebook reader.

We have been advised that the site should be available again shortly.

eResources Review 2016

The University Library is conducting a review of the entire suite of our subscription resources – databases, e-book collections, research portals and individual ejournal subscriptions – to determine which resources we should be adding to our collections in order to better support our teaching and research activities. As a consequence of the feedback we receive in this review, new subscriptions may be added to the collections.

The Library is inviting all staff and students to contribute to the review by suggesting resources they want to access from the shared eResource collections. The review will run from Monday 14th March to Friday 29th April

How do I make a recommendation ?

You can make recommendations online by clicking on the eResources Review 2016 banner on the Library homepage There are also links to the Review from your Subject Guides and the AskUs service.

What happens to the recommendations ?

All suggestions received by the end of the review will be collated by the Library and be included in our collection development plans for 2017. Final subscription decisions depend on the availability of funds to support the subscriptions we wish to make available. If you have recommended a resource in a previous review but it has not been added to the collections we would ask you to re-nominate this subscription to emphasise its importance to your research. We will use this Announcements feed to advise you of any new subscriptions.

If in doubt make the recommendation and Library staff can check to see if we have access. An increasing volume of the resources that the Library makes available to you are online. These online collections consist of a range of types of materials – eBooks, eJournals, streamed video, etc – which is obtained from a range of different publishers. Some of this content we own and some of it we lease.

The leased materials are managed and controlled by the company who owns the content and they will make changes to this content over time. This means that eBooks and eJournals can be withdrawn from collections with little advance notice and you may find that eBooks and eJournals that you have used in the past are no longer available to you.

The Library can generally acquire these materials in other ways if you let us know that you need to use it. Letting us know what you need access to is very simple. From our website there is a link called ‘recommend a resource’ (it’s in the centre of the home page) which connects you to an online form where you can tell us what you want to access. If the resource was available and is no longer add a note after the item’s title to point this out to us.

Please feel free to use this recommendation service at any time as we are always looking for suggestions about how to best support your research. Your recommendation will be forwarded to the relevant liaison librarian who will investigate the recommendation on your behalf.

And if at any time you don’t find what you are looking for in the collections, whether online or on the shelves of one of the libraries, please ask at one of the library desks or contact us by phone or email.

We have been notified by ProQuest, the provider of the ebook database EBL (Ebook Library) that this database & its contents will be unavailable for approximately 3 hours tomorrow morning Wednesday 16th September from 6:00am AWST / 8:00am AEST until 9:00am AWST / 11:00am AEST. This downtime is in preparation for the upcoming ProQuest Ebook Central launch, which will combine EBL and Ebrary into a single platform.
The downtime will also affect access to ebooks on this platform listed in Summon and course materials on Blackboard.
