Thesis is the search engine optimized Wordpress theme of choice for both newbie bloggers and serious online publishers. If you are not too friendly with PHP, you will still have a lot of functionality without having to alter any code.

Thesis was created by Chris Pearson of Pearsonified.com (gotta love the name!) and sold by DIYThemes. Chris designed many of the popular blogs out there, so it’s no surprise that it has been such a huge hit with the blogging world.

So here is my list of Thesis theme pros and cons.

PROS:

1.   The theme is Search Engine Optimized – makes it easy for the search engines to find you without any specialized knowledge or much effort on your part.

You can achieve great designs without having to change the core code of the theme, which means that there won’t be any negative search engine rankings effects.

2.   Great customization possibilities – you can move around all elements on the page without knowing any code.

Want to move a sidebar to the other side of your page?  Easy.

Want to change the color or positioning of your horizontal navigation bar?  Easy.

Change the number of columns, their width? No problem.

Want to add Google ads below your header or after your posts?  No problem thanks to the free Thesis OpenHook plugin.

3.  You don’t need to know any code – a lot of these design updates can be done directly from the WordPress control panel.

4.   Support – Future upgrades are free and if you have any questions about the theme, Chris Pearson (Thesis theme creator) and the Thesis community is really good at helping you out.

5.  Clean layout – makes the blog look professional. This one is my personal favorite; I hate clutter. If I visit a blog, where there is so much going on that it’s hard to even find a post, I leave.

6.   Multimedia box – cool feature that allows you to display pictures, videos, ads, etc or even display DIFFERENT videos for DIFFERENT pages.

CONS:

1. Knowing CSS codes is where the real power of Thesis is – no problem if you know CSS, but if you don’t, you will miss out on unleashing the full potential of Thesis Themes.

Side note: it’s not a difficult task to teach yourself the basics of CSS – very valuable skill for an online entrepreneur.

2.  Although it is incredibly easy to use the theme, there will be a learning curve, especially for newbies. I had a few frustrations in the beginning, had to do some research on how to fix certain things. Good news: their support is incredible and finding answers is easy.

Now that I’ve used Thesis for a while, I feel like a pro (almost).

Ana’s advice:

I found the theme after experimenting (read: wasting a lot of time and failing) with many free themes, even paying someone to tweak them for me.

After saying enough is enough, I bought Thesis theme.

I love it.

Is it worth it? In my opinion, yes. $87 is not a lot to spend for something that will definitely save you a lot of time and frustration.

I also love how SEO-friendly the theme is; after all, the biggest problem for most bloggers is to be found, and in order to be found, you have to show up in search engines.

With Thesis theme, guru-ness is not required.

With the tremendous amount of information we process on a daily basis, it’s no wonder it’s getting more and more difficult to capture and HOLD the attention of our targeted internet marketing prospects and customers.

They want you to be the one.

So, your only focus should become proving to your customers and prospects upfront and without a shadow of the doubt that you are THE ONE they are looking for, you are the #1 choice in your targeted internet marketing niche, you’re credible, and truly have solutions to their problems, they will buy.

You HAVE TO become a better thinker for your internet marketing target market: offer tips and advice that will completely transform and IMPROVE their lives if they use it.

And that does not mean that you can just rehash what you’ve read on somebody else’s blog.  Your customers need REAL wisdom and expertise and advice from you; the latest concepts, breakthroughs, and insights that will provoke and WOW them.

Here are some questions that you HAVE TO have an answer to:
1. Who is my target internet marketing audience?
2. What  is my target internet marketing audience looking for?
3. Where is my target internet marketing audience looking for their answers?

Become a better thinker and solution provider and your target internet marketing audience will find you.

No, I am not going to leave you hanging here. I hate telling people WHAT TO DO, but not HOW TO DO it.

Our desire for all things “custom” is reflected in all areas of our lives, no question about that, and I think social media gives us a chance at custom communication/interaction.

When people come to your YouTube channel (or Twitter account, or Facebook page), they want to see YOU and what YOU are about it.

The way your channel LOOKS is their first impression of you and it determines whether they stick around to learn more about you or not. It’s an online equivalent of giving someone your business card.

So here are some ultimate YouTube Internet Video Marketing tips on how to improve that first impression:

1. Choosing Your YouTube Account Name.

Remember:

Account Name <=> Username <=> Profile Name <=> Channel Name

It’s all the same thing.

With that in mind, put as much thought into choosing your YouTube profile name as you would when choosing your domain name for a blog or website.

• Choosing your name as a profile name is fine, BUT: if you are into fishing, would you rather open a message or read a comment from Fishing4U or JoeScmidt23? Exactly.
• Branding issues: NO, you don’t want to tie your current company’s name into your profile name – what if you switch your company in the future?
• YES, you want to brand yourself as an expert in your field, so choosing your own name as your profile name sounds like a good idea in that respect.
• BUT, what if you choose a profile name based on your area of expertise, then even if you switch a company or get into a different online business, your expertise can go where you go. Just food for thought.
• Using keywords in your username that describe or relate to your niche/area of expertise is going to serve you much better as you further optimize your channel and socialize within and around the YouTube site.

2. YouTube “About Me” Section:

(There used to be many more opportunities for you to market yourself on your channel – like channel description, performer information, and such. As of right now, you are limited to About Me section, so make a good use of it.)

My Account ==> Profile Setup ==> About Me

Treat your channel description as a mini sales letter.

You want to promote the link that monetizes your traffic – lead capture page, blog – whatever your ultimate purpose for your viewers is.

Let your description hook us and leave us hungry for more. Make us click on your link, which by the way you should use several times throughout your description.

Bottom line: Tell us what we’ll get (or what MORE we’ll get) if we link over. Don’t just give away your expertise and information without asking us to do something in return.

3. YouTube Channel Design.

This is the part where your YouTube channel stands out. It’s the very first impression that your visitors get of you and might even determine whether they stick around or find someone more interesting to check out.

The obvious: don’t stick with the default background.

Here are your choices, starting from the easiest:

1. Customize your color scheme to match your website/blog color.

Edit Channel ==> Themes and Colors

2. Upload a cool image or a personal picture and make it your background. (I chose a funny one for my YouNetBizTraining YouTube Channel – although I don’t know how long it will stick around:)

3. Use one of the free background layouts at www.YTLayouts.net. The don’t have many options, but they are safe (from what I know) and won’t dump a bunch of malware on your computer. Alternatively, Google “free youtube layouts.”

4. Hire someone to do it. Suggestions: www.YTLayouts.net, www.99Designs.com or just send a message to your Twitter buddies asking if anyone can do it. Whether it’s worth your money is up to you to decide. My advice – don’t do until you can justify the expense, i.e. you are making plenty of money via YouTube.

One more tip I just thought of: what if you already have a YouTube channel, but say, you don’t like your profile name, which as you know, you can’t change.

My suggestion: start a new channel and mark the videos from your previous channel as your favorites. That way you don’t loose them!

Still searching for some magic YouTube video marketing secrets? Is that why you are still not using YouTube as an internet marketing strategy?

Let me tell you something – the biggest secret you need to know is you’ll never make ANY money with YouTube!

Until, that is, you drop the excuses why you can’t do it, get off the coach, and make a video.

Stop being a “reactive marketer” – just checking you email hoping something good is going to show up. Become a “proactive marketer” – be so busy planting seeds into your marketplace that a great harvest is the only logical outcome.

Let me run by you some reasons why you can’t afford (unless you are already making millions online – are you?) to not use YouTube internet marketing strategy:

YouTube Internet Video Marketing is an Outstanding Lead Generation and List-Building Tactic – Uploading even a short clip about your product/service and optimizing it for your keywords to be found easier on YouTube AND Google means hordes of targeted traffic to discover you and follow you to your money-making website or blog (unless you are not in it for the money – ???).

YouTube Internet Marketing Reason #2:

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – Ever paid attention to the search results that Google dishes out when you look for something online? What is usually in the first 3-4 spots of the search? VIDEOS. That’s known as Google’s “blended search” – displaying videos, articles, maps, press releases alongside their standard search results.

Getting on the first page of Google with a video virtually overnight is a reality – I’ve done it even before I had a website and with as close to zero experience with video marketing as one could have.

YouTube Internet Marketing Reason #3:

YouTube Viral Marketing Potential – Give your videos a chance to go viral and be seen by thousands. If you think you don’t have what it takes to create a viral video, think again. I’ve seen many a viral video that got tens of thousand of views where I said “what? This video?”

ComScore.com tells us that 107.1 million viewers watched 6.8 billion videos on YouTube (63.5 videos per viewer) in April 2009. Those numbers equate to LOTS of potential eyeballs to view your content. Especially if you can figure out how to optimize your YouTube video content for them to actually FIND you!

YouTube Internet Marketing Reason #4:

YouTube Social Media Marketing Benefits – Remember: YOUTUBE IS A SOCIAL NETWORK! And as such, it gives you a tremendous opportunity to network with potential prospects and like-minded entrepreneurs, build relationships, and send people to your website EVEN IF you don’t have any videos uploaded yet. (Notice I said YET).

So, in the words of the infamous “Dumb & Dumber” character Loyd (did I just loose all your respect – yes, I own the movie and love it): “Move it or loose it, sister!”

If you don’t start using YouTube video marketing for your business, I can guarantee you your competitor will.

I told you the “what”, now’s the turn for the “how”.

So where do you find Visitor Values and Traffic Level data to help us work out the potential profits in a market?

Getting Traffic Data

Believe it or not, Google Keyword Tool will provide with all the data you need; you just need to know where to look for it.

Google Volume Search data gives us a very accurate indication of how much traffic (and therefore how many potential customers there are) in any market.

Step-by-step instructions on how to use the Google Keyword Tool to get traffic levels in your market:

1. Go to: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

2. Above the search box, you’ll see “Results are tailored to...” text. If you click “Edit“, you can specify the language and the country of your choice.

3. Type your keyword or keyword phrase in the search box.

4. Check “use synonyms”.

5. Click on “Filter my results” and check “Don’t show ideas for new keywords. I only want to see data about the keywords I entered” box.

6. Click on “Get keyword ideas“. You’ll probably have to enter the capcha (the funny-looking letters that appear in the picture) into the box provided as well.

7. The “Global Monthly Search Volume” box will give us our result: how many people search for this keyword on a monthly basis.

In the picture above, we see that the Dental Plan market has 246,000 average searches per month – that’s 246,000 potential visits to your web-site, or 246,000 potential buyers – each month!

So that’s our Traffic Level Data.

Now, let’s work on our Visitor Value Data.

Getting Visitor Value Data

Next, we need to find out what each visitor is worth.

In order to do that, we’ll take Cost Per Click (CPC) figures out of Google Adwords.

So if we find out how much we would have to pay in order to take #1 position in Google Adwords for our keyword, we will have a very good estimate as to the value of each visitor in a particular market.

How to get Cost per Click figures using the Google Keyword Tool:

1. After following the steps above (under “How to use the Google Keyword Tool to get traffic levels in your market“), you should see a drop-down box that says “Show/hide columns“.

2. Click the “Show/hide columns” box and select “Show Estimated Avg. CPC”

3. Once again, click the “Show/hide columns” box again and select “Show Estimated Ad Position“.

4. In the “Calculate estimates using a different maximum CPC bid:” box, select the currency you plan to sell your product in.

5. In the box next to your chosen currency, type 99 and click “Re-calculate“.

6. Make sure that the figure in the “Estimated Ad Position” column says “1-3“.

7. The “Estimated Avg. CPC” figure displayed here is the figure we’ll be using.

Now the good stuff: let’s finally find out if our “dental plan” market is worth our time.

Your Market Value Calculation

Once we have our numbers for Traffic Level and Visitor Values, we use a very simple formula to come up with the total market value.

TRAFFIC LEVEL x VISITOR VALUE = TOTAL MARKET VALUE

So simple, too bad I did not come up with it myself. The folks from Market Samurai did, but more on that later.

Our final number tells us the total monthly value of visitors searching for a particular keyword (or keywords) in a market.

Let’s go back to our “dental plan” example and quickly find out what this market is worth.

246,000 (our Traffic Level) X $3.51 (Visitor Value) = $863,460 – our Total “dental plan” Market Value

Wow, that’s $863,460 per month; 10,361,520 per year!

Before you run off on me creating dental plan websites, here’s something to cool you off.

Just because dental plan market is worth over $10M per year, it doesn’t mean that you’ll make that much!

Most likely, nowhere close to it…

Maybe, a tiny fraction of it!

Remember that this traffic is shared by thousands of web sites in the niche, and of course, those with the biggest ranking will have the biggest slice.

How big of a slice can you get?

Well, it all depends:

• It depends on how competitive your niche is;

• It depends on your product price;

• It depends on how well you convert your traffic into visitors;

• It depends on what your SEO skills are and how easily you can get top search engine rankings;

• It depends on how strong your competition is;

• It depends on how badly you want it and how hard you work;

• And it depends on a number of other factors that can influence your business…

But all things being equal – if you have two markets with similar levels of competition, where you sell a similarly priced product at similar profit margins – you can generally expect that the market with the higher value will be more profitable.

So, are you brain-dead yet? I hope you see how important it is to learn this very simple process and save yourself a lot of time, money, and frustration.

And if you don’t think it’s that important, then there is always an option of quitting (heh-heh, just kidding, I hope not).

Getting Market Value figures in Market Samurai

If you already own a copy of Market Samurai, like I do, the task of gathering all this info becomes even more of a breeze.

This data is gathered under you Keyword Analysis Data in Keyword Research tool.

Here are the numbers we are interested in:

• SEO Value (SEOV) – This is the maximum total value of traffic that the #1 ranked web page for this keyword (based on search results) is likely to receive – per month.

• Adwords Value (AWV) - This is the maximum total value of traffic that the #1 ranked advertiser (in Google Adwords) is likely to receive – per month.

In both cases, Market Samurai is taking the Market Value benchmark we calculated previously to the next step…

…by breaking down the Market Value number into how much #1 ranked web site will bring through organic SEO and Google Adwords respectively.

If you don’t have Market Samurai, I would recommend you get a copy – it will save you a lot of time doing market research and give you access to a lot of really powerful keyword research tools.

Glad I am not alone.

I came up with the list of 10 domain suggestion websites to help you to get that creativity flowing.

None of them is a perfect tool in itself, but combine 2-3 of them together and you should be off to a good start.

Now remember the basics:

1. Short domains are always better.
2. Try to use your main keywords in the name.
3. If .com is not available, don’t bother.
4. A good domain name has few or no alternate ways it can be spelled.

1. Google

This Search-based Keyword Tool provides ideas based on actual Google search queries.

2. DomainsBot

Offers domain suggestions, name spinner, expired and expiring domain name search, for sale domains, whois lookup and registration.

3. DomainTools
Allows wildcard search of current, deleted/expired whois domains and dns tools.

4. NameTumbler
Create huge lists of keyword-rich, generic domain names and check their availability.

5. ShoutDomains
Instantly find available domain names in multiple TLDs. Create your own domain with a word cruncher or word combiner.

6. MakeWords
Random name generator, keyword collections, synonyms, dictionary domains.

7. Name.com
Analyzes what you’re trying to communicate with your domain, locates alternative words and/or phrases to communicate the same meaning and searches for all available domains that can be registered in multiple extensions and languages.

8. AapkaDomain
This is an Indian website that allows you to search for available domains stemming in one keyword. Just plug your keyword and it shows the available domains around that keyword.

9. IWebTool
This tool suggests up to 20 possible domains.

10. SquadHelp
Paid tool, but definitely worth mentioning. Start a Contest! Get Pros to Work
50+ name suggestions within hours. On an average, a $50 contest would give you more than 100 domain name suggestions.
